Hosted by me , Divya Kapoor , a Birth and Lactation Educator Trainee, Mommytrack Daddy Whispers Podcast was started on a whim. My daughter’s birth and the events that were very fresh on my mind, led to its start. It was to tell the story of motherhood that is not exciting, a story where the love is not seemingly divine, not magical, where it lifts itself up, slowly, where as the child grows the LOVE gets nurtured. We have now transformed into a more knowledge backed show with guests like Doctors and ChildBirth experts, because when it comes to Child Birth, Knowledge is Power. However, I want to keep some ground for raw humane conversations too, because they drive me till date: the amount of conditioning our society runs on which in my case was the glorification of motherhood, the subtle pressure to be happy and not fiddle with my overwhelming emotions. It all drained me. To my amazement, there was little support or understanding of this situation even among fellow women probably due to an ever lesser acceptance and guidance in their times. This is why, I believe, it is imperative that we speak ‘Unabashedly’ about our experiences , learn along, do not deny intuitions and share our learnt wisdom with others.
Everywhere you look, someone has advice on feeding your baby. But what does it actually take to exclusively breastfeed while running a business, handling endless unsolicited opinions, and still trusting yourself?
In this conversation, Surabhi shares her Postpartum journey after taking Birth Agni's long-form breastfeeding program. We talk about exclusive breastfeeding, elimination communication, navigating Indian family advice with partner support, why breastfeeding education changes everything, and why fathers need communities where they can learn to be truly involved parents.

In this conversation, Surabhi Shekhar, founder Gubbi Gudu, women’s wellness specialist, prenatal/postnatal yoga guide, and doula-in-training joins us with her loving husband, Darshan, to share the story of their preparation for a birth center experience.
They speak at length about the thorough preparation, the inner work at various crossroads, and discussions as a couple helped them arrive at their decisions and needs in this journey. Surabhi reflects on the emotional process of choosing where to birth, while Darshan brings in the partner’s perspective.
Their fun and interactive style of advocacy helped them collaborate with their birth center team and find a middle ground. 'Time -specific' boundaries helped them push for their needs over and over again. Knowledge became their strongest tool, helping them ask the right questions, make informed decisions, and cultivate genuine partnership with their care providers.
And in a first for their birth center, their advocacy made them the first couple to physiologically birth their placenta.
This episode shows what preparation can look like and how it can help propell a couple further in the direction of the birth they imagine, yet embrace that birth is an unknown space.

What if we learnt that our menstrual cycles were a tool for growth. It is something that makes us women special and powerful.
If we are looking at helping women see the Shakti or the power in themselves, the road begins at Menarche.

Role of fathers in setting the right protective environments for menarche.

This is the story of Kriti's Labor and Birth and how they made the decisions moving through each phase. The highlight of the story is 'Self direction' . It is not important where you really birth, what is important at the core of it all is how 'self directed' a family is in their birth choices. Kriti and Ashish are a grounded couple who take time to decide what is good for them, they listen in and are great examples of strength, inner strength. There is vulnerability and charm in their story.

Kriti and Ashish left behind a city life to build a farm and live in a remote village - all because it meant a slower life of connection.
"We would not have had a baby had we been in the city", Kriti says and then goes on to share how living with nature, they started craving to have a third energy in her own words in the world around them.
In this episode, Kriti also shares how the collective women echoed a sense of strength in birth but when she went the regular route of going to a doctor, they were always reminded to be cautious , not joyous.
This contrast and an episode of misconduct from the doctor shifted their approach to a more natural birth .

Nutan L Pandit has been teaching birth preparation since 1978.
Back then, the Indian birth scene was very different. Nutan aunty gave birth using breathwork taught by a foreigner — so calmly, in fact, that the nurses were shocked she was already pushing while chatting! This was in Mumbai, with no ultrasounds, and one baby in face presentation. Her doctor, Dr. Jay Dhurandar, was part of a system that wasn’t yet afraid of birth the way it often is today.
This episode dives into the massive changes Nutan ji has seen over 40+ years of her work.
We talk about:

Choosing the right doula, midwife, or birthkeeper for your birth journey is more than just credentials and experience — it’s about alignment. In this episode, we walk you through a heart-centered approach to choosing your birth team.
We start with a self-inquiry activity to help you tune into what you truly need and desire as the first step before drafting your questions.
Then, we’ll guide you through sample questions to ask during interviews (yes, interviews!) . Think of it as creating your own little soul-led checklist — from practical things to deeper “how-do-you-hold-space-for-me” kind of vibes.
And we couldn’t talk about choosing the right person without pulling the Trump Card — your intuition. That quiet inner knowing often speaks louder than any resume. We’ll share how to recognize those yes/no feelings and what to do when logic says one thing, but your gut says another.
Whether you're birthing at home, in a center, or in a hospital, this episode is your reminder: you deserve to feel safe, seen, and sovereign in your choices.
Grab a cup of tea, bring your journal, and let’s explore how to find your people for this sacred chapter.

VBACs are often dreaded in the medical system. Birth Centers are open to supporting them.
This story is about a successful VBAC in a birth center, yes, but its not just that. It is about a woman trying to find her way back to herself, back to her Birth wisdom and her empowered self.
It is also about how she feels she was treated during the experience. There is another very strong yet subtle emotional conflict that is happening and that is about a quest to have 'A Kind of Birth' because that seems to be the 'Only Right Way' and various realisations around it. The reflection is a beautiful journey a woman goes through and Birth's primary purpose is Evolution, a physical and emotional as well as spiritual growth that many women live through their individual experiences.
We discuss
By the End of this Episode, you would have your own understanding of the emotional roller coaster ride that this journey was for her . It will help give you a direction on how you would like to approach your birth , Listen to your individual needs and desires .
Births beyond everything needs Fluidity. Birth is Fluid just like Life, there is no Right Way to go about it, Your Way should be Your Right as it speaks to you :)

The Embedded Gift of Pain Relief is the name I have given to the very foundation you need first in your laboring journey, without which no pain relief technique works efficiently.
And this has come from experience. When I started out as a childbirth educator, the techniques I taught fell flat for some women because this very foundation was missing. Soon after, I started my training as a traditional birthkeeper/midwife and supported women birthing outside the system. This taught me what was missing.
The very foundation to access The Embedded Gift of Pain Relief was missing.
In today's episode, we talk about this method and the 3-step method to enhance your chances of opening the lock to this embedded gift which every woman is gifted with. It does not reside outside you.
Once you are done imbibing these three conscious methods into your life, it's time to then move on to the next steps — the pain relief techniques integrated with this embedded gift — and we talk about it in our Free Guide to Childbirth.

What’s really driving birth practices in India today? In this episode, we pull back the curtain on the Indian medical system—where convenience often takes priority over physiology, and where C-sections are rising not always because of necessity, but because they fit better into hospital schedules. We also explore how the ancient wisdom of our traditional dais—the original birth workers—is being ignored in the new midwifery models, and what that says about who gets to define "modern" care.
This is a conversation about over-medicalisation, missing voices, and the uncomfortable truths behind what we call “safe” birth today. If you're a parent-to-be, birthworker, or just someone who wants to understand the deeper layers of our system, this episode is for you.
About the Guest: Dr. Uplabdh Gopal is a medical doctor and health policy researcher at the Observer Research Foundation (ORF). His work spans healthcare systems, medical technologies, and regulatory reform, with a focus on innovation and equity. He has contributed to national and global dialogues on Universal Health Coverage, health resilience, and digital health.

Ultrasounds have become a routine part of modern pregnancy care — but how much do we really know about their origins, benefits, risks, and accuracy? We’ve all been told that ultrasounds are just a normal part of pregnancy — a way to “see the baby” and make sure everything’s okay. But have you ever wondered where this practice actually came from, what it’s truly meant for, and whether it’s always as harmless as it seems?
This episode is for every parent who wants to understand what’s being done and why — and for birth workers who want to support families with facts, not just protocols.
It’s not anti-ultrasound. It’s about asking better questions — because you deserve to know more than just “it’s routine.”
Backed by science yet rarely discussed with expecting parents, this conversation dives into:

Shilpi was guided into a home birth through various channels — one of them being how the medical system was too keen to label hers as a geriatric pregnancy and potentially schedule her into a surgery.
Often, women over 35 are labelled as geriatric — meaning care for old people in the medical system. This brackets them into care meant for the elderly, including the approach of looking at everything through a high-risk lens. This often complicates pregnancy more than it is complicated in itself.
Shilpi's raw story takes us through her thoughts, preparation, as well as doubts and questions leading up to the birth. Her partner's support and preparation in birth, and more.
This is also a story of learning to take self-responsibility in birth — no matter where you birth — in a hospital, a birth center, or at home. Nobody but you decides how you want to be taken care of and when you wish the care to change. It is a very personal space, and there is a big role of intuition in life and birth itself.
Tune in to the story now.

Postpartum in India is celebrated in rituals, gatherings and expectations—but what about the actual needs of a new mother?
In this episode, I unpack 5 ways Indian women can experience a gentler, more supported postpartum phase—especially in the midst of complex family dynamics. From the emotional toll of unsolicited advice to the silent pressure to perform as a "good bahu," we explore how the early days after birth can feel more like a test than a time for healing.
We also talk about the vital role partners play—not just in baby care, but in mediating boundaries, protecting the mother’s space, and making sure her voice isn’t drowned out by cultural noise.
I also touch upon a deeply sensitive issue: the bias between families that exist with respect to the new family unit, the relationship with in laws , privacy and emotional boundaries—and how that dynamic can affect postpartum wellbeing.
If you're a new parent, expecting, or simply navigating these unspoken tensions, this episode will give you tools to make postpartum not just survivable—but sacred.

The primary aspect of birth is finding a place that supports us.
For some women, no institution feels like a safe space where they can truly let go and allow their intuition to guide them—where they can allow the process to unfold in its most optimal form. For others, a birth center that supports the natural function of the body is the right path.
Self-direction is crucial in any birth journey.
Afeeda’s birth story is an inspiring example of a self-directed birth—one rooted in deep connection with the self and intuition.
Today, we discuss:
Afeeda holds a doctorate in Sociology and is a Social Anthropologist. Her research focuses on the embodied experience of pain in both medical and religious domains. She is the founder of Daiirah, a company that fosters a community centered around reconnecting with oneself. As a Life Coach, she has mentored students and institutions, helping them navigate emotional challenges and reach their highest potential.

Vikki and Raj decided on a Home Birth as life directed them to . They found a midwife after one referred to another and then another until finally they met Ditta.

No doubt, the birth was fast and little Henry wanted to meet his parents quick.
After the birth, placenta was separated with some pieces still retained, a situation like this can quickly escalate to a more serious and hence she was transferred to a hospital.
We discuss this at length in Chapter II

Swati's story of natural birth with meconium is one where an experienced doctor did not scare her. He observed and as the baby was not distressed, he waited and Swati was able to birth the baby vaginally.
Her son was taken in for observation in NICU but she was allowed to nurse inside and visit frequency. All of these show us the possibilities of what can and ideally should be a choice every woman should have. We are creating more health issues with the number of surgical births that are happening.
We also explore in our discussion why another woman with a similar scenario had to undergo a surgery.
Swati is a mother, an artist and an art teacher, she grew up in bangalore and was lucky enough to have had her child there too. She enjoys learning new forms of art, reading a good book and cooking.

Off late, numerous marketing events and strategies have been used by private cord stem cell banks in India to lure parents with the promise of potential benefits of storing stem cells for future malignancies their child may face. While this may seem like a lucrative and logical form of biological insurance, many of these companies rely on misleading—and in some cases, fraudulent—marketing techniques.

Calling this a reality of today's maternal healthcare system is not enough to point out the issues that need dire resolution because the problems are far more complex than 'one' solution being right and everything else, wrong.
The issue is of the belief systems fuelled by years of medical marketing, cultural hearsay, shifting away from our traditional systems completely in the name of advancement without paying heed to the resulting loss.
In this episode as we explore The language around Birth especially in the media pertaining to Home Births, we also speak about the collective 'discouraging' language around the whole spectrum of 'Womanhood', Birth and Breastfeeding with Effath Yasmin ma'am who is a pioneering Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist, International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, and registered Flower Practitioner. India has always birthed at home. Women birthed at home as a culture. Today, women are going back to their roots out of the lucrative outcome of health, easier labor and comfortable birth.
Not just India, women birthed at home across the world, as homo sapiens, this was the primal instinct. Yes, women died in birth and babies died too. They die in hospitals today as well not because of someone's fault or lack of medical support.
Things happen beyond the understanding of medicine, science and more. Birth and Death both fall in the same category. If you look at it from the place of nature, we are open to being surprised by nature when it comes to plants and animals becuase we are detached but we shrink ourselves in our wisdom, intellect and logic because of the fear of not being able to control death in birth that we have compromised the health of both mothers and babies to avoid a rare event like death.
What is worse - living with substandard health by being exposed to drugs and medicines as we begin life or aim for a healthier entry into life and motherhood and accept that death if that is to happen , it will by the rules of that one power no matter where we birth.
So should we aim for a drugged birth and compromised postpartum for women and babies or aim for the highest experience of birth and surrender to God what is not in our control. Might seem so religious , so irresponsible , so irrational.
But think about it all wisdom to humankind always came through God or nature and all that we have lost in our civilised world is by holding control over nature and assuming power over it that we are suffering the outcomes of climate , living, food and water. What is left?

A lot has changed in the Indian Birth scene since then. Mrs Pandit birthed her children then using Breathwork which was taught by a foreigner, the nurses then could not believe she was already pushing and talking without being in obvious distress.
This was in Mumbai, she also did not have any ultrasounds then. The doctor was
Dr Jay Dhurandar and one of the babies was face presentation. The Indian Maternal System was not yet so 'scared' by birth itself.
This episode is dedicated to understanding the change that Nutan L Pandit has witnessed over 40 years of her practice!

In Episode 93 we discussed about how to find the right Birth support person or build a birth support team.
In today's episode we discuss how we can further understand a community based service relationship and own responsibility on both sides to fulfill a more cordial, professional and healthy relationship.
Because community work and its unsaid rules and protocols are so individual and change from person to person , it is signficant to learn from our care givers such as doulas, traditional midwives, traditional consultants what their style of practise is.
At the same time, there are some basic rules to courtesy and compassion which we discuss today on the episode- compassion for birth workers.
Very obvious, but not necessarily common.
So if you are listening to this episode, find this as your guide again to plan your time and some portions as your responsibility of the beautiful, trust and love based relationship that this is , can be and continue to be

Contrary to her previous experience (EP 102) of a quick birth at the birth center, Sanjana manifested a slower transition this time and knew instinctively that she wanted to give birth at home, with her daughter as a witness to the simplicity of life and birth.
We are often presented with the narrative of a painless birth and today the 'option' of a painless birth with medical interventions at play. What if these narratives are carefully selected to create an image that suits the industrialized system, benefiting from the victimhood of women in their own bodies? What if the natural bliss of birth is being carefully shielded away from us?
In this episode, we discuss:

Every woman sheds a part of herself as she goes through the rites of passage - Menarche, Birth, and Menopause - the life-altering experiences that hold huge significance. We all arrive in pregnancy with something we have learned from our life experiences, which helps us visualize our birth in a certain way. Some of us desire it to be a breeze, some of us desire it to be painless, some of us desire it to be with friends and family, some of us want to avoid surgery at all costs even if we do not know what birth can look like, some of us consider it our identity linked to birthing naturally as women.
Sanjana's journey has been the same, very much like many of us. She is self-aware, reflective, and growth-oriented: inward in her journey of pregnancy and birth. Her transitioning definitions about herself contributed to the decision of prioritizing her ideas about birth over the little juggles of life.
Listen to the journey of transformation for a woman through pregnancy and birth as we re-discuss them as the rightful dimensions of growth a woman is gifted with, which she has all the right to experience guided by herself rather than any authority or outward force.

Unnecessary Cesarean sections are common in India for unjustified reasons and poorly read overdiagnosed factors which in many cases have not been proven to be emergencies. The lack of application of basic evidence based information once applied can in itself lift our rates of natural birth high up. The maternity system today needs to keep up with atleast the guidelines in place as a starter and the experience if not the outcomes may improve.

Google tells me that the idea on Gentle Parenting has been around since 1930. The internet is now leveraging on its popularity including big media houses like the Times of India who recently , well , precisely on 26th March '24 published a photostory with the title that goes ' Why Gentle Parenting is not for Indian Kids'!
This one poorly argued photostory had many FB groups and mom channels in uproar with the complaint of how rigid the idea behind this photostory has been.
Gentle parenting has been my approach too and more like respectful parenting and my ally in this has been Shailaja Paramathma, a dear friend from the times when I was trying to work my hand at writing.
Shailaja has worked in the core administration team and also as the Admin head for different establishments for a period spanning over a decade. Wearing different hats in her career, she has been an English teacher, having worked for the French Embassy as well as a Journalist for a few years before she embraced Parenting as her full time occupation.
We decided to go ahead and disseminate this story and present our counter arguments based on real life experiences in an intimate and fun filled conversation today.

Pre eclampsia in late pregnancy is often arrived at with one episode of High BP, two episodes of High Blood Pressure or a case in previous pregnancy without any symptoms in the current one.
We see how the current care dynamics in the medical world is quick to categorise a symptom which may need further diagnosis to confirm if someone really has a condition or not, Pre -eclampsia being one of them.
While only 6-8 % of women statistically are at high risk of pre-eclampsia or further issues, the micro and over management of the situation often results in lack of support for women desiring natural births (which is how birth happens, naturally!)
In this episode, however, we do not discuss prevention or management but what Pre-eclampsia can mean at a physiological level for birthworkers and pregnant women to ask better questions!

This is Anjali's story. She attempted to birth all her three children at home and lives right behind my house. First two were in the village and the youngest is in the city. The second birth was a transfer after laboring at home for quite a while, the baby was 1kg.
If you are interested in enrolling for the two 'Childbirth Classes' with me , register your interest from https://birthagni.com/contactus and you will be sent a link for a 30 min FREE Discovery call!
The first time I met her was when my house help Rani didi who actively works as an informer for me on people birthing at home and dais in the vicinity, took me to her house. Divi, my daughter came along.
"Mama! I can also climb this tree", Divi asks me really seeking permission if its safe to follow Anjali's daughter, younger to her and adept at plucking baby oranges from the taller branches.
When we talk about Birth as safe or unsafe essentially , we also need to learn how birth unfolds essentially (from these people who live a more natural life than any instagram reel can talk us into) and then invite interventions where really needed. Just like divi saw how a girl younger to her could organically learn to climb , she could watch and follow by example, with more motivation and less fear.
What is really happening in the birth world today is , we start with inducing healthy low risk mothers because we fear they will not go into labor, like Whattttt! And that is what really has gone wrong in birth , not new age women, mind you!
Now what does data tell me - 'I do not know'! Most of us never look at the conditions in which a research or study was done. To my work as a birth counsellor and doula/birthkeeper , this is my data. Real people and I have no funding or inherent interests to mould it in any other way than it is.

Vinita Mansata's journey towards advocating for natural childbirth at home is a testament to the power of personal experience and determination. Disappointed by a typical caesarean delivery years ago, this with a vertical scar, Vinita ji found herself yearning for a different birthing experience, one that honored the natural process of childbirth and empowered women to make informed choices about their bodies.
Vinita ji intuitively went on to look for people, the Aam Admi who in her own words were ' not spoilt by the system' and had first hand experience with natural birth in its true sense- the local vendors and gardeners etc.
She was empowered by their wisdom and did not look for a gynaecologist the second time at all also refusing all tests and ultrasounds. She did meet resistance from her mother for her choice of birth as well as parenting choices outside of allopathy and any other alternative modalities.

The keyword is who is going to 'Sit with you' through it all with your choices and decisions and be nurturing in your journey! That's where the foundation is laid!
As a trainee midwife and a practising doula as well as a lactation counsellor, I do a lot of home visits, have pregnancy support group meetings where women physically meet and discuss pregnancy, postpartum , breastfeeding and more.
I began calling my way of serving women as community care , an established term but i often have to explain my practise to people. So here's a short solo episode on it which explains how this works and is beneficial always in the long run!

We all like to see things as linear so as to find a conclusive way to work at them.
In the product and consumption world , we are taught how to plan to achieve a desired goal, to achieve something exactly how we want it!
This is the opposite of how 'Birth' works. It is uncertain. It is unknown. It is being in the moment and the moment as your guide. All the knowledge helps and should be directed to teach you to surrender! It is pretty much a way of living 'Life'.
I wish this wisdom was taught to us and surrendering and trusting the body that we were miraculously born with was imbibed in our upringing wherein all of our schooling was about praising a science that was mightier than nature. It is a lie.
In this part we discuss,
PS: I do not beleive in stalling of labor as a reality , birth is not linear , yes it is affected by the circumstances we are in, not all of which can be predicted or planned. Birth is a non linear emotional and personal journey of a woman, a break sometimes is much needed.

Obstetric emergencies refer to critical situations during pregnancy, labor, or the postpartum period that require immediate medical attention to safeguard the health and well-being of the mother and/or baby. But are these really emergencies?
Many women today are being told they either have a Large for Gestational Age Baby (LGA) or Small for Gestational Age Baby (SGA). IUGR is another term thrown around independently that needs fixing. It is important to note that these issues are often figured out at a scan at 36 wks or so and one diagnosis is often considered as the standalone complexity and women are then presented with options to fix it, mostly an Induction.
Now, big babies have all been born through history vaginally without any issues. Similar is for small babies, why is then these are seen as problems?
We sit down today with KL Goode, a Hawaain traditional midwife with over 53 years of experience and having assisted over 1400 births. Her transfer for surgery rate has been as low as 4% . If you are looking at the internet for answers, know that the Internet is flooded with inappropriate information about training babies to sleep.
The various methods that include crying of the baby are suggestive of treating a baby , a whole human , like a machine, incapable of thinking for itself or feel in the least. This is not gentle and it is not developmentally healthy as well.
In this episode, we sit down with our expert, Dr Sreenath, who walks us through some common questions regarding baby sleep, helping calm a fussy baby, reduce colic or working with nasal congestion , swinging , swaddling and holistically treating baby sleep. Dr Sreenath has done an extensive study on natural and indigenous methods that make parenting easier in the earlier days.
Coming from his own experience of not being able to find a suitable and 'convenient' solution for sleep issues when he became a dad, he decided to find the answers himself and built Nasobuddy , a baby products company essentially started to solve Sleep Issues in Children and has now been helping women with other issues including breastfeeding.

Induction is offered to every mother routinely in the urban hospitals in India.
The various issues are big baby, small baby, past due date , one episode of high blood pressure, all of which are not medical emergencies but perceived problems that are being brought to fit the solution to it. It is not a problem based solution scenario but more a solution based problem making.
Induction as a procedure comes with its own set of risks, it is a pseudo attempt at 'supporting normal births' Oh we tried with Induction but oh it failed and we had to do a surgery, we gave you a chance.
A real attempt at normal birth for majority of women should be waiting for spontaneous labor to begin.

Learning from this experience, the couple took hypnobirthing classes and Chhavi circulated her birth plan with clear preferences to her doctor and pediatrician. She refused induction to begin labor. Despite clear communication, and a nicely progressing labor , medical drugs were introduced to hasten the process which turned the tables on her. Chhavi's trance was broken and her body went into a shock.
What happened next? How did Chhavi react to this treatment? How did this affect her postpartum. Tune into it to know more.....

It is becoming painfully sad that despite the best preparation the obstetricians/gynaecologists are able to pursue the parents to choose Surgical births like they are selling candies. The language is usually this, 'this is just the trailer, do you think you want to take it further?' Oh even after you take so much pain, you may have to undergo surgery , then why do you think you want to take it any more. It is you choice , yes you may have natural birth after waiting but it is still a risk . It is your choice. "
Sweet nudging and disempowering parents is the norm in every second hospital in Delhi, the national capital.
In all this, Supriya's birth story shows how preparation and choosing a natural birth supportive center made all the difference to her birth story from spending majority of early labor at home to going to the center. Tune in to hear her story of a natural birth.
Supriya is a new mom, an aspiring writer and a certified Hatha Yoga Coach. Her day job is with Procter and Gamble as Director, Environmental Sustainability for Asia Middle East and Africa markets. Nani, my maternal grandmother was always in the village, up north of India. She has six children, five girls and one boy, quite classic of the traditional households.
The first two , my mum and my aunt (masi) were born in a hospital outside the village where my Nanaji, maternal grandfather was a homeopath doctor.
The other four children were born at home with a traditional birth attendant (Local Daima) . All were born in a sitting position. This episode gives a cultural perspective on how birth happened in the northern indian villages.

Madhuri and Praneswara Das are Krishna devotees from Mayapur, Kolkata. Madhuri was always scared of needles. When she learnt she is pregnant which she was expecting , she was terrified on how to go about it. Initially, they did go to the doctor for checkups but there was a point when after an ultrasound they decided to do, the doctor said the liver of the baby is not functioning. This was a huge blow but they were not held or emotionally supported at the hospital.
Their faith and birth education, support from midwives and birth community kept them going. All along their faith in God led them , their baby was absolutely fine at birth with no issues. This podcast was recorded when the baby was over 6 months old.
It is interesting that after 3 days of labor, the placenta was not born for 9 hours, how did they cope up with this situation and what do they say about their inclination towards home birth if they have another baby.

Rani Didi is my house help. She has four children, 1 girl and three boys, the oldest being the girl who is sixteen now.
When I asked Rani didi, how did you birth, she nonchalantly mentions, ‘At home!. We all birth at home’. Her description of labor is not too detailed but the story has a cultural significance. More so , it is empowering to see the ease in her voice and the confidence about her body , birth and nature.
She may not use the modern Gen Z language to describe her experience but the macroscopic details also give in a huge understanding of how birth can also be visualised.

Birth Education is crucial to a positive , women centric birth experience, every birth worker would say that!
In India, the industrialization of birth is rampant. The wave is being supported by hospitals where the birth classes are often filtered to suit the different commercial scenarios that may be taken into consideration during your Labor. I often, still see a lot of confusion on what birth looks like, "what can I do? Are my fears going to interfere with the process", asked a mother inspite of the preparation from the hospital.". This , in an independent birth preparation set up where your coach has no alignment with the system, is better able to prepare you for birth and postpartum, keeping you and the baby at the center for all scenarios.
There are so many questions:
Why prepare for birth when I can ask my doctor or family?
Did our previous generation in the cities have positive births, what stories have you heard?
What is Informed Decision Making?
Who owns the responsibility for the Birth?
What are the interventions that an informed mother and family can decide upon say a meconium stained liquor, need of a surgery , epidural etc
What does Birth Education give you in a nutshell?
We answer all of it in this episode. Tune in to know more!

Nurturing a mother goes beyond the physical aspects of dimming the lights during labor. While that is beneficial, listening to her throughout the pregnancy, her fears, dreams, aspirations, visions and views about her new life are crucial to her feeling empowered in her body and ability to birth.
Feeling held and special during pregnancy also ensures the well being of the baby. The idea is to look at pregnancy as a wholesome experience, physical as well as emotional.
The baby and the mother are a single entity long after birth as well. Their health and emotional well being function together. Wisdom lies in this.
How do we create a nurturing space for the mother and baby?

Ask a mother what she has heard about labor and she will quickly tell you,
"It is a pain that is capable of breaking many bones". "It is the worst kind of pain any human can undertake" "My mum said it was horrible."
Moreso, this is exactly what is shown in movies, media, print or social because we all love sensationalizing things.
Our mothers, a generation ago were birthing in the hospitals, even if they had a normal birth, their experience may not be good because it was not a natural, physiological birth. It was very well a medically managed event.

The podcast has been running for over 2.5 years with over 60 episodes spread across Perinatal Education, Maternal Health and Family Dynamics. With a new name comes a newer approach to spreading awareness about Women Centric and Respectful Birth Experiences.
This podcast will cover everything around Birth and Women's Health. All kinds of birth stories will be featured , stories of birth back in the days from our parents and grandparents, stories of home and hospital births and a special coverage that requires more time and will be revealed as it cements. Now, it will be on the listener to learn about the defining features in these stories and I hope, from where I see it, the varied options on how birth can also unfold outside of the heavily mainstream view of birth as a physical experience alone, will surface from these stories.
Hoping it speaks to you in many ways!

Dr Niveditha is an Indian Venereologist and a clinician in Sexual Health who specializes in HIV medicine, currently based in Syndey , Australia. She is well known on Instagram by her handle Dr_nive_untaboos.
Speaks about
1) How to approach Vaginismus?
2) Differentiate between manifesting what you have been told and if you actually have it?
3) Partner support

Nidhi Seth has been in the space of providing support to birthing families during and after birth. She has a high vibrational energy that catches on . More so, we know deep down that birth is hardwired into us but in a world constantly being bombarded with distraction fuelled by the vested interests of the businesses, we often need this energy to look withing and stir the chords of who we are. Nidhi has been that for us in this Episode.
Nidhi is a Certified Birth Doula, Ayurvedic Postpartum Doula, Hatha/Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga Instructor, Bengkung Belly Binding Practitioner, Clinical Herbalist in Training working on Women & Infant Medicine.

“In order to align your life choices with your values, you will need to inquire about the effects of your actions (and inactions) on yourself and others. Although we are always stumbling upon new knowledge that shifts our choices and life direction, bringing conscious inquiry to life means that we continually ask questions that lead us to the information we need to make thoughtful decisions. Asking questions is liberating because we develop great understanding and discover more choices with our new knowledge.”
-Zoe Weil, Most Good, Least Harm: A Simple Principle for a Better World and Meaningful Life
Informed decision making process in the healthcare system is marred by the hesitation of asking questions from the authority ie the healthcare provider. It is backed by the common belief that the healthcare system decided the care that needs to be provided and your role in your ensuring your health is minimal.
Covid 19 ( Coronavirus) has dishevelled our lives again, right around the time we were beginning to believe that things will be be normal again.
Last year was difficult and this year has been very disturbing in the last couple of months.
We are now adjusting more strongly to the fact that we will have to live with it and maintain caution at all times until a sustainable solution to the problem is found. Vaccine is so far being considered the only solution.
Breastfeeding mums and Pregnant woman are a section of society that need a specific and circumstantial understanding of how this phase affects us mothers to be or breastfeeding mothers.

We all have our pregnancy and postpartum stories.
For some of us like me this phase completely changed the way I look at life.
It first revealed a side of me I thought did not exist and then all through the highs and lows, this journey has healed me from one extreme to another.
I knew all through that my husband looked at it from a very different perspective.
For him , it was more about trying to make sense and sometimes feel marvelled at beautiful undertones of pregnancy, while at other times , wonder what he could do to ease out the discomfort.
Postpartum was tough for me and it was for him too.
I sensed how helpless he felt, how alarmed he felt at seeing a new persona unfold in front of him.
I was too broken to ask him about anything. I remember feeling guilty of the way I behaved and helpless at not helping myself and him too.
It was stressful for him too.
He could have had his story, his worries and they were all superimposed by my issues early postpartum. But I could sense how it disturbed both of us.
And that's the reason 'Mommytrack Daddy Whispers' Podcast started with me but has always had daddy in it, we need to discuss perinatal health for fathers too, for the partners too, to be more inclusive.
In this Episode we discuss,
Postpartum Support International is the organisation that provides emotional support to both mothers and fathers in the perinatal stage. They have volunteers all across the world , who can be searched here:

I witnessed two events in the last couple of months that had a lasting impact on me as a mother. One of which left me torn and the other healed me in a way.
I talk about these two in this episode and it reflects upon the way we look at 'Respect', rather the way we enforce 'Respect' in children.

Motherhood is honestly a bumpy ride, especially the first few months. It has its joys and it has its lows. It comes with mood swings and a will to outgo. That rhymed there , right!
Lots of songs and lullabies and mothers who can rhyme, but there is another thing that is very common among lactating mothers which is tremendous confusion about whether they are producing enough milk, the breastfeeding process is painful, how much should i mix feed etc.
To answer some of these questions we have with us as a part of 'Know your birthing process' for this month, Saumya Dwivedi , who is a Certified Lactation Counsellor and a Babywearing Educator. She has also started a wonderful project to bring awareness around Breastfeeding called 'Pushya' which means nourishing. You can check it out here, Pushya.
In this episode we cover:
1) The importance of the emotional state of a woman for smoothly breastfeeding
2) Preparation is the key to Lactation Concerns as well.

PS: You would hear the cry of my daughter in the background a couple of times. the areas that were crucial and could not be edited. I am a mother and we do it at odd times, ensure she sleeps etc but we have our days right and i would not redo it because the women i work with are mothers too who 'find' time to do this with me. I would value everyone's time and wear my life and situations with pride. Wanted to write a caution, so if this generally irritates you , you have a heads up from me. :)

As a part of 'Know your birthing process ' theme for the month of March-April, we are discussing the common birthing situations faced by women in this episode with Megha Khanduja from Mothering Mothers. While in labor and delivering, especially when it is for the first time, a woman may have tons of questions based on what she is experiencing, it is valid for her to expect answers for all of them. But more often that not, we do not find answers to all them, which is what we are trying to figure out here, answers to questions while in labour or about labour and birth.
Highlights
1) Contractions
2) Significance of cord around a baby's neck
3) Baby heartbeat fluctuations while in labor
4) Birth Rights
5) Labor management etc.
You will learn the motivating story of Megha where knowledge helped her empower herself and take charge of her birth experience.

I am into a new phase with my daughter. She is a toddler and the change in her is visible more than ever.
There are frequent power struggles, she is able to express herself clearly and there are conflicts. She can be stubborn at times that she will stick with what she wants. She knows that her words are being received in the way she wants.
And so it makes it even more important to know what development stage they are. It helps to know what to expect from them.
It also helps to know what methods should be applied to help them calm down. How to mould your methods to fit this new age.

This episode is a short memoir of my childhood with my grandfather. It is in the Hindi language. It is a small attempt to bring to notice the importance of grandparents in a child's life.
Jay Kesler said, " Young people need something stable to hang on to -
a culture connection, a sense of their own past, a hope for their own future.
Most of all, they need what grandparents can give them...."
This quote perfectly sums up this mini episode. This is also a tribute to my late grandfather whom I miss every now and then.

2020 has been historic and profound due to its own reasons.
It has been a difficult year an extraordinary one.
In this episode, i took out the time to prepare a travel bag where i revisited this entire year and chose things i would still want to take to 2021 in my travel bag and things i would want to discard.
I think it is really important to open this dialogue where we bring forth our stories and share what we all are taking in our travel bags to 2021.
Because we all are different and present a scope to learn and inspire.
This is the last episode of the year. Here is me wishing a lovely new year and warm, love filled end to this one.

There are methods to managing kids. The process is slow but worthy. Find out the methods that we can hold onto even in times of lockdown and struggles. To make our needy souls happy, there are some tricks identified in this episode. We remember to use the magic element throughout as we work with kids and learn and grow as better human beings.
If any of the things mentioned in the episode connect to you or hit a chord, do leave a note . All smiles!
This question popped up on my mind last week on international Mother's day. To me parenthood is as much about partnership as marriage is. And Typically, a father is born the day a mother is, their roles surely can be different at times but parenthood is well, about balance.
So i browsed and surfed and did my research. The times surely are changing, societal pressures on men and women to stick to their assigned roles was huge at some point in time. This is seeing a positive shift. Coming from an indian family, i see a tremendous blurring of the roles which to me should have always been natural.
So how did these days come into being and why do we celebrate them the way we do?
Listen to me unlocking these answers and share my thoughts here in this episode! Hop on!
In business, we are taught to know our enemies first, before we make that pitch.
We are struggling with a new normal and to hit a chord with the new way of life, it is vital to figure out our enemies. They could be lurking behind our happy faces and attack in the nights.
Join me as I try to unfold the reasons of our subtle yet draining every day battles.
As parents,we first need to keep our sanity in place to be able to manage the kids which is precisely what we are aiming for in this episode. Once the parents are sorted, the children are easier to deal with as we unlock that magic key element in the process.
These surely are difficult times due to the COVID19 pandemic and more so for the pregnant women. I was talking to my friend a couple of weeks back and recollected some Bizarre pregnancy symptoms I had. In this light-hearted episode I take you back in time to my pregnancy days describing the anxious, insecure and super confused me embracing life and its magic.
Hoping this would lighten your burden in such overwhelming times and make you smile even if for once!

While they say, it is happy ever after, after the baby is born, but is it just a fairytale? Postpartum brings a strong change in the dynamics of a family especially in the relationship of a husband and wife. In this episode, we will go through my journey postpartum and see how we coped up with the tough times and what did we learn.
Do we talk about Postpartum Depression? Do we even recognize it? Motherhood can be tough. A new mother is usually brimming with emotions and imbalanced hormones. Seldom, the mental state of new mothers and new fathers goes unacknowledged in the hustle bustle of new life. In this episode I share my experience and speak from a general Indian family set up perspective. It creates a unique environment. It creates a unique story.
