During Legacy Christian Academy's January Town Hall, we celebrated $1,000,000 pledged to the Stronger Together fund, Mr. McGee addressed LCA's stance on the COVID-19 Vaccines, Geoff Giauque was introduced as Senior Director of Development, and Rebekah McIntosh shared the Class of 2021's successes thus far, including 100% application submission rate with a 97% admission rate by January 1 to 50 different colleges, including Harvard, Notre Dame, and Duke!

Panelists included Kim Butler (Kindergarten), Jami Bicknell (3rd Grade), Dayana Tinker (1st Grade Spanish Immersion), Cheryl Guthman (8th Grade Science) and Will Weaver. On Friday, April 17 at Mr. McGee and members of LCA's Academic Team discussed the successes and challenges of Distance Learning and consider the lasting impacts on education at LCA and beyond. Panelists included Daniel Townsley, Chief Academic Officer, Courtney Jennings and Megan Hannah, Senior Directors of Academics, and Holly Hammond, Director of the Legacy Learning Center. PTF President, Karin Proctor, also provided an update of how PTF is preparing several virtual events to ensure our LCA Community remains active and connected.
As we wrap up Week 2 of Distance Learning, Legacy Christian Academy hosted a second town hall webinar for the entire LCA Community. Mr. McGee was joined by Mrs. Mosley, Tuition Assistance & Student Accounts Manager, and Mrs. Snyder & Dr. Snear, LCA Guidance Counselors, as well as Brad Brenneman, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Conversations focused on how families in need can apply for tuition assistance, strategies for coping with COVID-19, and a Q&A session.

Aaren Deitch, Legacy Christian Academy, first grader recently won a 2nd Place Ribbon at the Texas State Fair. We visited with Aaren about his oil pastel painting of a puppy he named after his sister, Emily. Legacy Christian Academy's robotics club earned 2nd Place in the overall BEST competition, besting 31 area public and private schools to advance to the regional round to be held in Garland on November 14. Dr. Harmon visited with many of the team's members regarding their role in designing, building, and marketing The Underminer for their initial competition, as well as what to expect as they prepare to compete against teams from across four states. The Legacy Christian Academy Yearbook recently received an award for excellence for the 2014-2015 yearbook, as well as an honorable mention for the 2015-2016 production. We visited with editors Emily Thompson and Brooke Tomlin about their awards and plans for the upcoming year.
Mrs. Snider shared with us that she approaches her classroom as a conductor leading a symphony. Like her, each teacher at Legacy works to identify their students' God-given strengths and grow throughout the school year, that over a period of time, each student would be confident in who God made them to be! Today we visited with Lane Guthmann, a current senior who first attended Legacy nine years ago when he was in 3rd Grade. We visited with Lane about his campus involvement, including Cross-Country, NHS, LSO, Lower School Unity Coordinator, Club Med, and Evangelism Club. Lane also shared with us his favorite memories from his time in the lower school, and he talked about his favorite teachers Mrs. Bowers and Dr. Stone.
Today we visited with senior Grace McKeehan. As a teenager, Grace is an accomplished rock climber who currently holds both a national record and international title. As a 9-year Legacy student, she loves her teachers and the relationships they have with her in and outside of class. Tune in to learn more about a truly wonderful young lady!

In this student spotlight episode, we visited with senior Matthew White, who has attended Legacy for 14 years! In addition to running cross country, Matthew plays trumpet in the Screamin' Eagle Marching Band and will help construct this year's robot for the BEST Robotic competition. Matthew discusses his favorite Legacy memories and teacher as well.
In this Athletic Spotlight, we visited with Scot McCollum, Junior High Football Coach. Scot, now in his 8th year at Legacy, spoke about both junior high football teams, as well as the overall goals of the program, both on the field and off the field. Furthermore, he shared his heart for coaching: training up young men, as well as the joy of working with them from the time they enter junior to when they cross the stage at graduation.

During this Live@Legacy Faculty Spotlight, we visited with Leslie Mida regarding the importance of reading aloud to your child. Our conversation is based on a recent New York Times article entitled Bedtime Stories for Young Brains. The article sites a recently published pediatric study that looked at 3-to-5-year-old children and the effect that reading aloud to them had on the visual part of the brain. Nick Dolanski was nominated as a student of the month in the Upper School. He has been at Legacy for 13 years, during which time has grown close to a group of guys to whom he refers as his "brothers." Nick, who plays on the golf team, names Mrs. Harmon as his favorite teacher, but probably not for the reasons you might think.
Our Student Spotlight this week features senior Megan Beck, a senior and volleyball co-captain. Megan has attended Legacy since she was in pre-school. Her favorite thing about Legacy is her relationships with her teachers. Megan wants to be pursue a career in teaching and is passionate about serving and ministering to others. She combined those interests this summer and co-taught a Bible study for incoming freshman this summer.

Over 60 colleges will gather on campus to visit with students in Grades 8-12. Mr. Townsley discuss how students should dress, what type of questions to ask, how to prepare an elevator speech, as well as wisdom on why students should bring address labels!

Her favorite thing about Legacy is the Bible classes. She loved Church History & Apologetics. She learned who she is and why she follows Christ. Mr. Littleton has been a huge influence in her life.Walk with Christ: Christ has helped her to realize she is capable of doing things she would not have thought possible. Christ has given her a passion to share God's love with those in society who have been forgotten.Passionate about: Honoring and respecting others. McKenzie loves others for who God sees them and not as the world sees them. All people are precious to Jesus. She also loves to collect vinyl records.How does she hope to be remembered? McKenzie wants younger students to listen to what God says and follow the Holy Spirit. She wants to be remembered as trustworthy.
