The team also discusses the stigma associated with not taking any honors courses and the impact, or lack thereof, on a student’s future academic opportunities. What would it look like to have an ongoing conversation about sex with them instead? Join us for our next PEP Talk as Dan Martin of pureHOPE tackles the subject of talking to your children about sex. Dan will teach you how to confidently communicate God’s story of sex through an age-appropriate, ongoing dialogue with your kids, and, as intimidating as it may seem, even become their “go-to-person” on this topic! And there’s more! After the presentation is over, all who sign up will receive a link for access to a bonus pre-recorded seminar, “Navigating our Sexualized, Digital Age.” In this extra presentation, Dan and others from pureHOPE will provide a five-point strategy for managing technology use in the home in a healthy, godly way. During Legacy Christian Academy's January Town Hall, we celebrated $1,000,000 pledged to the Stronger Together fund, Mr. McGee addressed LCA's stance on the COVID-19 Vaccines, Geoff Giauque was introduced as Senior Director of Development, and Rebekah McIntosh shared the Class of 2021's successes thus far, including 100% application submission rate with a 97% admission rate by January 1 to 50 different colleges, including Harvard, Notre Dame, and Duke!

Our panel of LCA educators offered insight and encouragement that you will want to hear. Panelists included Kim Butler (Kindergarten), Jami Bicknell (3rd Grade), Dayana Tinker (1st Grade Spanish Immersion), Cheryl Guthman (8th Grade Science) and Will Weaver. (Upper School Science) This Town Hall also includes a Q & A segment regarding end-of-year procedures and possibilities. On Friday, April 17 at Mr. McGee and members of LCA's Academic Team discussed the successes and challenges of Distance Learning and consider the lasting impacts on education at LCA and beyond. Panelists included Daniel Townsley, Chief Academic Officer, Courtney Jennings and Megan Hannah, Senior Directors of Academics, and Holly Hammond, Director of the Legacy Learning Center. PTF President, Karin Proctor, also provided an update of how PTF is preparing several virtual events to ensure our LCA Community remains active and connected.
As we wrap up Week 2 of Distance Learning, Legacy Christian Academy hosted a second town hall webinar for the entire LCA Community. Mr. McGee was joined by Mrs. Mosley, Tuition Assistance & Student Accounts Manager, and Mrs. Snyder & Dr. Snear, LCA Guidance Counselors, as well as Brad Brenneman, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Conversations focused on how families in need can apply for tuition assistance, strategies for coping with COVID-19, and a Q&A session.

As the second in a two-part series, Live@Legacy visits with Rebekah Radney, Director of College Advising at Legacy Christian Academy, who shares an action plan for successfully navigating the college fair experience.
Legacy’s annual college fair will be held on Thursday, August 31st from 6:30 until 8:00pm in the Upper School commons. Over 65 colleges from around the country will be in attendance ready to meet each student. The college fair is open to all students in grades 8-12.
Legacy's 5 Steps to a College Fair Action Plan:
- Dress to Impress: You want to make an impact, so I would recommend business casual or professional dress. After all, this could be the first person reading your application. However, Admissions representatives realize that you have obligations, and frankly they want students who are involved in extracurricular activities, so if you have to come from practice or rehearsal, that’s okay. Use your attire as a conversation starter; “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to change, as I just left practice, but I wanted to be here…”
- Engage with the Reps: This is a great opportunity to learn how to network with adults. As you visit each table, introduce yourself to the representative, look them in the eyes, shake their hand, and ask specific questions. Finally, thank them: Please make sure you thank them for their time and for attending the fair. You can even take a business card and follow up with a thank you email.
- Visit all the colleges: This is all about doing your research! Don’t just visit the colleges you know; visit the unfamiliar colleges too. You will learn, see different types of colleges, and hopefully get insight into all that colleges can offer you as a student.
- Be intentional with your...
- Time...if you have a list of priority schools, make sure you visit them first. Also, please be aware of other students that may be waiting to speak with them.
- Impression...You want your first impression to be a good one, and these reps could be the difference in your acceptance, so have a plan! One idea is to create a short statement of who you are and what you are looking for in a college to start the conversation.
- Questions...It can be awkward talking to a complete stranger about school you know little to nothing about, so identify a few questions before you arrive. These can be specific to your desired major or address a list of things of you want in a school. A general question is always helpful too, such as “Can you tell me more about your school?”
- Complete the Cards: Each college will have a card for you to fill out with your basic information. It is crucial that you do this because colleges are now tracking your interest, and this goes into your admission decisions as a senior. A completed card is their record that they actually met you at this year’s college fair. A great way to save time is to pre-print address labels that include:
- Full Name
- Address
- Phone Number
- Email address (not your school address)
- Legacy Christian Academy and Class of 20xx.

Today we visited with Rebekah Radney, Director of College Advising at Legacy Christian Academy, to learn more about Legacy’s upcoming College Fair in what will be the first of two conversations. This week, we’ll discuss the opportunities the College Fair represents for our students generally and then for various grade levels specifically.
Legacy’s annual college fair will be held on Thursday, August 31st from 6:30 until 8:00pm in the Upper School commons. Over 65 colleges from around the country will be in attendance ready to meet each student. The college fair is open to all students in grades 8-12.
For each grade, the college fair presents different opportunities:
- Eighth Graders: Not only is this great exposure to start learning about different colleges and what they offer students, but it is a great opportunity to network with adults in a safe and friendly environment.
- Freshmen & Sophomores: A great goal for these students would be to begin honing their lists of interests and career opportunities. Additionally, they should begin to pay attention to admissions requirements and ensure that their own personal and academic goals align accordingly.
- Juniors: As the admissions process truly begins this year, these students will want to focus in on specifics, both colleges and entrance requirements. The fair is a great opportunity to identify which schools are (and are not) serious contenders for their attention.
- Seniors: For the Class of 2018, these representatives are your admissions agents! This is your opportunity to have face-to-face conversations and make a personal impression with the person who will read your application. Be sure to ask specific questions about their application and inquire out about scholarships.

As a part of our Open House on February 6, 2016, Dr. Robin Brewer (PreK) and Leslie Mida (Kindergarten) shared their insights on how parents can best prepare students to succeed prior to stepping foot into the classroom.

Parents of two kindergartners, the Goodwins have been at Legacy for almost a year, as they relocated to Frisco around Christmas in 2014. Aaren Deitch, Legacy Christian Academy, first grader recently won a 2nd Place Ribbon at the Texas State Fair. We visited with Aaren about his oil pastel painting of a puppy he named after his sister, Emily. Legacy Christian Academy's robotics club earned 2nd Place in the overall BEST competition, besting 31 area public and private schools to advance to the regional round to be held in Garland on November 14. Dr. Harmon visited with many of the team's members regarding their role in designing, building, and marketing The Underminer for their initial competition, as well as what to expect as they prepare to compete against teams from across four states. The Legacy Christian Academy Yearbook recently received an award for excellence for the 2014-2015 yearbook, as well as an honorable mention for the 2015-2016 production. We visited with editors Emily Thompson and Brooke Tomlin about their awards and plans for the upcoming year.
Mrs. Snider shared with us that she approaches her classroom as a conductor leading a symphony. Like her, each teacher at Legacy works to identify their students' God-given strengths and grow throughout the school year, that over a period of time, each student would be confident in who God made them to be! Today we visited with Lane Guthmann, a current senior who first attended Legacy nine years ago when he was in 3rd Grade. We visited with Lane about his campus involvement, including Cross-Country, NHS, LSO, Lower School Unity Coordinator, Club Med, and Evangelism Club. Lane also shared with us his favorite memories from his time in the lower school, and he talked about his favorite teachers Mrs. Bowers and Dr. Stone.
Today we visited with senior Grace McKeehan. As a teenager, Grace is an accomplished rock climber who currently holds both a national record and international title. As a 9-year Legacy student, she loves her teachers and the relationships they have with her in and outside of class. Tune in to learn more about a truly wonderful young lady!

Upon graduation, Dylan hopes to pursue medicine and business while attending Baylor University.

In this student spotlight episode, we visited with senior Matthew White, who has attended Legacy for 14 years! In addition to running cross country, Matthew plays trumpet in the Screamin' Eagle Marching Band and will help construct this year's robot for the BEST Robotic competition. Matthew discusses his favorite Legacy memories and teacher as well.
In this Athletic Spotlight, we visited with Scot McCollum, Junior High Football Coach. Scot, now in his 8th year at Legacy, spoke about both junior high football teams, as well as the overall goals of the program, both on the field and off the field. Furthermore, he shared his heart for coaching: training up young men, as well as the joy of working with them from the time they enter junior to when they cross the stage at graduation.
In this student spotlight episode, we visited with senior Chinwe Appio-Riley, a delightful and driven young lady who has been at Legacy for three years. She leads the BEST Robotics competition for Legacy and is working with Mrs. Hamilton to produce prosthetic limbs for children in need on Legacy's 3D printer!
During this Live@Legacy Faculty Spotlight, we visited with Leslie Mida regarding the importance of reading aloud to your child. Our conversation is based on a recent New York Times article entitled Bedtime Stories for Young Brains. The article sites a recently published pediatric study that looked at 3-to-5-year-old children and the effect that reading aloud to them had on the visual part of the brain. Nick Dolanski was nominated as a student of the month in the Upper School. He has been at Legacy for 13 years, during which time has grown close to a group of guys to whom he refers as his "brothers." Nick, who plays on the golf team, names Mrs. Harmon as his favorite teacher, but probably not for the reasons you might think.
Our Student Spotlight this week features senior Megan Beck, a senior and volleyball co-captain. Megan has attended Legacy since she was in pre-school. Her favorite thing about Legacy is her relationships with her teachers. Megan wants to be pursue a career in teaching and is passionate about serving and ministering to others. She combined those interests this summer and co-taught a Bible study for incoming freshman this summer.

Over 60 colleges will gather on campus to visit with students in Grades 8-12. Mr. Townsley discuss how students should dress, what type of questions to ask, how to prepare an elevator speech, as well as wisdom on why students should bring address labels!

Mr. Littleton has been a huge influence in her life.Walk with Christ: Christ has helped her to realize she is capable of doing things she would not have thought possible. Christ has given her a passion to share God's love with those in society who have been forgotten.Passionate about: Honoring and respecting others.
