You may have heard the buzz about fractional CMO, fractional COO, fractional CEO lately, but what exactly does it mean—and why is everyone talking about it?

Imagine being able to control your work hours, choose your clients, and do more of what you love without being tied to a full-time executive role.

Fractional leadership is that game-changing opportunity, and in this episode 123 of Meaningful Work, Meaningful Life, and the final of Season 10, I sit down with Karina Mikhli, a leader in this Fractional space, to share her journey and expertise.

Four years ago, Karina couldn’t have imagined the impact she would create in the world of fractional leadership.

Her journey has led her to an unexpected but powerful reality. Karina had already built an impressive career in publishing and operations but found herself drawn to something different—something more flexible and aligned with her passion for optimising businesses.

She discovered fractional leadership, a role that allowed her to help companies scale without being confined to a traditional executive job.

But she didn’t stop there.

Karina saw a need for a supportive network for fractional leaders, and so she founded @Fractionals United, now a vibrant community of nearly 11,000 members!

Like many entrepreneurs, Karina faced challenges—navigating self-doubt, building a community from scratch, and balancing work with her creative outlets.

This conversation will inspire anyone who’s considering the leap into fractional leadership or looking for ways to make a meaningful impact in their career.

🔊 Ready to dive into the future of work and learn how Karina’s mission is reshaping leadership?

When considering employee advocacy or brand ambassador programs, organisations often assume:

⛔ It’s just employees sharing marketing on social media

⛔ It’s not relevant for managers and executives

⛔ It’s about continuously praising the company

⛔Tightly controlling the messaging of employee advocates is the key to success.

⛔ It’s only for sales and marketing staff

However, my guests in season 9 of my podcast Meaningful Work, Meaningful Life shared insights dispelling these myths and revealing the true potential of employee advocacy:

✅ Success requires share-worthy content and a culture where people enjoy working. (episode #104 Bradley Keenan)

✅ Allow people to proudly share what they're passionate about in your organisation (episode #105 Jessica Pharm)

✅ Executives should lead by example in sharing first online (episode #106 Michael Sørensen)

✅Invest in managers' abilities to form authentic relationships with their collaborators. (episode #109 Kristin Bell)

✅ Hire smart people who align with your values and support their wellbeing. People need to feel at home when working with you. (episode #108 Yao Azumah)

✅ Encourage self-belief and compassionate leadership. Stop, look and listen (episode #107 @Harpal Dhatt)

✅ Balance profits and human rights through human-centered technology. (episode #111 Fatima Roumate)

✅Coach managers to help employees navigate their careers and feel they belong. (episode #110 Antonia Bartels)

Done right, an employee advocacy program simply empowers people for a mutually beneficial partnership built on trust and care.

The old command-and-control mindsets misunderstand this potential.

But now you see the power of an authentic approach.

In this episode, Bradley Keenan, the founder and CEO of DSMN8, an employee influencer platform, discusses the importance of enabling employees to be more active on social media. Bradley shares his background as a salesperson turned entrepreneur and how he came up with the idea for DSMN8.

He also explains the concept of employee advocacy 1.0 and 2.0, highlighting the shift towards empowering employees to advocate for themselves on social media.

Highlights

  • Employee advocacy 1.0 focused on using employees as billboards for the company's marketing content, while Employee Advocacy 2.0 enables employees to advocate for themselves and build their personal brands.
  • Employee advocacy gives employees permission to be active on social media and become recognised experts in their fields.
  • Bradley explains that some companies are more willing to hire external influencers than invest in their own employees as ambassadors because it's easier to hire them and there's less risk involved.

I had great conversations with my guests in this season 8, focussed on the great re-evaluation where we discussed their perspective on the great resignation that saw a massive exodus of employees out of their jobs during the covid 19 pandemic.

I thought I’d select the takeaways from our conversations in these short extracts. Of course, you can listen or listen again to the full episodes to get the full interviews.

We’ve explored many angles and the implications of the great resignation: from purpose to finding clarity, to financial well-being and health wellbeing, the end of a system and the need to reinvent a more empowering one where people can go to work and expect to have a great experience.

The takeaway 1 is that this phenomenon of great resignation is a build-up of many years of bad practices.

in episode 93, Nicole Townsend, founder of experience counts shares why she thinks that the pandemic was the perfect catalyst for employees who already felt burned out to quit and start their own venture.

Right from the moment someone wants to join the company, through the recruitment process and then developing and growing them, helping them navigate change, and even through their exit.

The reporter turned Marketing/HR professional has developed an acute understanding that employees are just as crucial to a company as the customers, if not more. She believes that it’s important to understand employees’ experiences at every point to encourage them to do their best and connect to the purpose. Why? When people feel empowered, they give their all, which lead to positive business results.

In our conversation, Nicole shared how she was laid off then started her business successfully in the middle of the pandemic and the critical secrets behind employees' loyalty and satisfaction at work.

Do you sometimes feel that no matter what you try, you are still stuck in inertia and can't get anything moving?

Welcome to this new episode of MWML podcast. Last week I explained how to make sense of the situation we are all finding ourselves in with the Coronavirus and understand the 5 stages of change to get prepared to what is coming ahead.

In today's episode, I am bringing you some practical ways to manage your time by adopting the rhythm of nature to achieve your goals with less resistance.

During this time where we are all confined at home, it's going to be very important to stay motivated during the long waiting phase and have some rhythm to remain productive.

Even before this lockdown, we have all experienced times when nothing seemed to be moving as we wanted. The more we tried hard and continued doing more of what we did to get out of the inertia, the more we dug deeper and couldn't find a way to get out of this apathy.

It turns out that understanding how energy works and how flow happens can help us tremendously to get unstuck and start moving things again.

In this episode, I cover the 5 types of energies available, how to use them to experience flow in our life, and how to apply the same principles in our daily life to boost our productivity.

If you are ready to make the best possible of this long waiting time and create your online presence with digital assets that make money, get in touch at www.francinebeleyi.com/call

The season 6 of the show is coming next time with amazing guests and a focus on how to make the most of the online work. You'll learn how health experts, online marketing gurus, educators, business people, psychologists and more are making the most of the online world to have a more significant impact.

I am excited to share today’s message because I think this is one of the missing pieces when it comes to translating our dream into action and what is preventing most people from living the life they want finally.

We may hear the importance of dreams but don’t get the other part of the equation to make our vision happen. To be able to Act, we have to bring focus into what we are here to do, i.e. find a way to help us going in the right direction.

This is what A Mission Statement can help us do and the topic of this episode. How do we create a personal mission statement for our dream? Why is that important?

Listen to this episode to discover the 5-part process that I use for myself and for my clients to create a clear roadmap to achieve your dream. This step by step method is extracted from the Pillar #1 Know Yourself of the 7 Pillars of the YEANICCTMframework in my book Personal Branding in the digital age. In the previous episode, I invited you to find and articulate your dream, one that is going to fire you up for the next 5-10 years. I hope you’ve already identified that.

Time is our most valuable asset in this busy and fast-moving world we live in. We know that we can reach our goals faster when we are clear on our priorities. Be strict with what we say yes to, focus on them and ditch the rest of our activities. But the problem is that sometimes we have to prioritise what is already prioritised.

Today’s episode is about how to manage your priorities when everything seems to be important. You’ll learn my top three tips to stay on the top of things and one essential tool you can use to sort out your most important priorities.

You’ll find a useful template in the show notes to help you prioritise your activities as well as a daily, weekly and monthly plan to get things done and manage your time effectively.

Welcome to Season 5 of MWML podcast and to the episode 50. I know that some of you have started the year 2020 with big fat juicy goals, aspiration and desire you want to accomplish this year and the next decade but I also know that for some you, this is an excruciating exercise. You are not sure about your dream or how to articulate it in a way that it becomes your driving force in life.

When we talk about doing meaningful work and creating a meaningful life, you got to know what that looks like for you. One of the reasons we don’t get joy, satisfaction in our work or in our life is that we often play small. We set a small goal we can achieve and as soon as we realise that small goal, we have to find a new goal to keep us going; and sometimes we get stuck and until we find something meaningful enough to hang on to.

What if instead, we have a big dream; a dream so big that it scares us; a dream that will take a while to come to pass? This is what I invite you to do with me at the beginning of this year 2020.

You've heard that the best way to predict the future is to create it. My goal in this episode and this season is to help you find and articulate your dream, something that is going to fire you up for the next 5-10 years.

In today’s episode, I am featuring the Accumulator profile, the 6th of the 8 Wealth Dynamics profiles. I have the pleasure to feature Louise Mosley who helps corporate escapees grow their business by reconnecting with their WHY and using their unique skills and talents.

Passionate about scuba diving, she helps people to be neutrally buoyant i.e. to find the most efficient way to enjoy what they do effortlessly and stay in flow.

Whilst on a scuba diving holiday, Louise met her partner Neil and the pair decided to leave the UK to Honduras. She quitted a well-paid job working for pharmaceutical companies in sales and marketing to get to the Caribbean island with no job with a few weeks of accommodation.

Being in a different environment, a different culture, with a different language and with people with a different outlook on life, she learnt more than what she’s learnt in her previous 13 years of training.

In today’s episode, I am featuring the Trader profile, the fifth of the 8 Wealth Dynamics profiles. I have the pleasure to welcome Karen Revell, money and mindset coach who work with service-based entrepreneurs, and business leaders to help unlock their wealth.

Karen distinguishes four aspects to wealth: Financial wealth, an abundant lifestyle or living a rich life that doesn't necessarily relate to money, your self-worth: how you see yourself, your own identity and your inner wealth: your strengths, your talents, your genius.

Unlike most entrepreneurs who left the corporate world to do what they love; Karen was very much in flow in her corporate job. She climbed the ladder and had success in my career, earning well over six figures and in fact that enables her to build her financial wealth and retire from my job in her 40s.

She now split her time between the UK & Spain. She believes that we should be earning money doing what we love as long as that is aligned with our talents and our strengths. Her message is to understand that we can all work for ourselves, we can all be entrepreneurs, but you do need to know your talent, your personality, your strengths and do build your business your way in alignment with who you are and what you're here to do rather than following role models that are absolutely not right for you. She also shares how understanding her Trader profile was a huge relief as she stops to compare herself to other entrepreneurs.

“I don't believe anyone on this earth hasn't got a purpose. It’s just that we haven't revealed it to ourselves.” Naomi Sesay

“It's a gift when work is so meaningful that you'd do it for free. And that's also a problem,” says, Dr Michael F. He is a recognized authority on meaning in life, purpose, happiness, psychological strengths, and positive psychology. • His love for research and finding out why are we here on this planet – how we are going to be here and how we think about how we are here

Welcome to season 4 of Meaningful Work, Meaningful Life podcast. In this season, I am breaking things down more specifically and featuring guests who are giving you practical techniques and tools to live a more meaningful life. My aim is to bring a very practical dimension to our conversation around the 3 Ms (meaning, Money and Movement) and decrypt the science of achieving happiness in life.

Some people read a book, enjoy it and hopefully take some notes to improve their business or their life. Most people simply forget what they’ve read after a while. But a few are so impacted by what they’ve read that they decide to stand up and do something to change their life. This was the case with Dr Jess Wade, a physicist at Imperial College London turned into a prolific Wikipedia editor. Her life has changed over the last few years thanks to the book ‘Inferior’ by Angela Saini.

“For a long time, I felt I was too small and insignificant to do anything that was impactful,” she says.

Jess is now called a ‘one-woman powerhouse’! She is a scientist on a mission. She wants every woman who has achieved something impressive in science to get the prominence and recognition they deserve – starting with a Wikipedia entry.

Listen to my fascinating conversation with Dr Jess Wade to find out:

  • How she struggled with maths before ending up being a top scientist
  • What a day in her life looks like
  • How to become a Wikipedia editor
  • What to do about the lack of support that affect the confidence of women to pick science subjects
  • How she combats the impostor syndrome to reach higher goals
  • How to build the case to get powerful people in the conversation to support diversity

And much more...

Today, I have the great pleasure to have on the show, Kwame Christian, a lawyer and expert in negotiation and conflict management. He is the Director of the American Negotiation Institute and a professor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, the top ranked dispute resolution program in the country, and Otterbein University’s MBA program.

Kwame’s shares his personal struggles earlier in life with difficult conversations; which led him find a way to better deal with that by exploring psychology, human behavior and how the thoughts and beliefs influence our behavior and the way that people think.

“When it comes to these difficult conversations, it's not a question of whether or not we do it, it's a question of whether or not we do it well,” he says.

People often default to an avoiding strategy to avoid conflict. But he encourages us to be proactive when it comes to solving these problems and mending the relationship.

In last week’s episode, Bruce shared great insights on leadership, wisdom, knowledge, management and organisation as well as the choice of his career, the relationship between quality of conversation and good decision making.

In today’s episode, we are going deep and more personal as he shares how he tried to escape a controlling mum, on being book alcoholic and having a curious mind, his long search for meaning, true meaning of love, his unfulfilled desire of being a philanthropist and much more.

Other subjects we discussed include:

  • The paradox of education and how to reduce information stress
  • Power vs responsibility
  • Why values, organisation, conversation skills ought to be embedded in school curriculum
  • How to keep ahead of the robots
  • Why a meaningful life is not about making more money
  • Why companionship is as valuable as love

Discover how a kid who dreamt of being a motor racing driver became an academic, helping PhD students to develop a broader view of life whilst researching their subjects.

Dr Bruce Lloyd, Emeritus Professor in Strategic Management, London South Bank University has spent over 20 years in industry and finance before joining the academic world to help establish the Management Centre at what is now London South Bank University.

Bruce has written extensively on a wide range of strategy and futures-related issues. He was also the UK coordinator for 'The Millennium Project' 1999-2005 and has been active in the 'Futures industry'.

In true academic, Bruce has been so generous in sharing his wisdom during our interview that I am creating two episodes from our conversation. This first part is almost a masterclass in strategy and how to think about the Future as well as some great personal insights.

In our conversation, Bruce shares how he unexpectedly landed in the academic world as a professor of strategy and supervising PhDs and how he got involved in Future Studies. He explains the relationship as well as the difference between Strategy and Futures Studies and why we are better off with forecasting even if it’s not an exact science.

He tells how teaching in academic world was the most rewarding part of his whole career but also how the administrative side can feel very pressurised as he now enjoys his semi-retirement and doing what he wants rather than following other people’s agenda!

Bruce reveals the connection between leadership, wisdom, knowledge, management and organisation performance as well as how he finds himself studying wisdom. He also shares why values are becoming increasingly important in this world and explains the logical link between data, information, knowledge and wisdom.

He tells us how the quality of conversation in organisations is critical in determining the quality of the decisions taken and why we should be okay to take decision based on imperfect information.

Bruce also explains why we should rehabilitate the word ‘leadership’ and not use it interchangeably for psychopathic, megalomaniacs and dictators. He highlights the distinction between authenticity and empathy and why it’s crucial to make that distinction and enlightens us about the danger of authenticity without values. He reveals how lack of trust in our society comes from people perceiving that there is a lack of fairness in the process of decision making.

Bruce believes that in the face of actual rapid changes, it’s important to have effective learning processes to make sure that change equal progress.

Determined to drive the movement of digital and social inclusion in the UK, her organisation is expanding in Australia and in Kenya, focusing on socially excluded people.

Having helped almost three million people with thousands of partners, Helen believes that we need to bring people in to help us achieve our goal rather than trying to do it alone!

Discover how a girl from rural Punjab, in India, found herself running Africa's biggest entrepreneurship programme.

Parminder Vir OBE is the former CEO of the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), Africa’s leading philanthropic organisation. TEF entrepreneurship program is the most ambitious African Entrepreneurship Programme with a $100 million commitment over 10-year, to identify, train, mentor, and fund 10,000 entrepreneurs from across the continent.

Parminder has a background as film and TV producer with BBC Television, Carlton Television and Channel 4, as well as CEO of her own independent production company. She has also produced some of Britain's biggest events and TV shows including the MOBO Awards and EMMA Awards.

“It was a call to destiny… and having the courage and the imagination to respond to this opportunity at the age of 57,” Parminder says.

In this breath-taking conversation we talk about how she became the CEO of the Tony Elumelu Foundation entrepreneurship program as she was just thinking of retiring. But with the blessing of her husband and her two daughters, she embarked instead on this new adventure in Lagos, Nigeria where she had to imagine what the entrepreneurship program would look like on a blank sheet of paper.

She explains the fascinating concept of ‘institutionalising luck’ and ‘democratizing opportunities’ and the seven pillars of the program and its holistic approach to entrepreneurship development.

She also tells how her storytelling skills as a filmmaker and being on the ground helped to create an original African model rather than adopting western-based business models and also how her biggest challenge was about managing success when the applications received climbed from 20,000 in the first year to 216,000+ the fifth year to select 1000 entrepreneurs.

Parminder reveals how the underlying thread of her multifaceted career led her to become an agent of change in big institutions such as British television and British film industry.

She also talks about how being family and duty-bound were so important that she accepted an arranged marriage at 18 to someone she never met and why failure was not an option as she realised the sacrifice that her parents made to put food on the table. She had to succeed to make a better life!

Parminder believes that you have the power to imagine what you'd like to be and what you'd like to do. You can create the roadmap for achieving them. And whatever you're doing, know that someone else has done it before; you can be inspired by someone else's story.

In today‘s episode I’d like to do something a bit different and walk you through a visualisation exercise to imagine how your life will look like when you have achieved the financial goals that you’ve set to yourself and the impact on the other areas of your life.

You’ve probably heard that many lottery winners go broke only a few years after they won millions…

The reason why they lose it all have less to do with money than the psychology and the lack of preparation to handle this event both at an emotional level and at a practical level.

If it were you, if you win 100 million dollars today, how will ensure you stay level-headed, think clearly and stick to your values?

As you are thinking about the money that you need to accomplish your goals, I’d like to invite you to do a reality check now, take a holistic view and consider all the elements in your life that will be impacted once you start bringing in more income.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • Why it is absolutely important to do this visualisation exercise
  • How to visualise your desired life in detail as I walk you through the exercise
  • How to incorporate the results of the visualisation into an action plan for the short and long term

Today, I am focusing on why relationships and our network are the essential ingredients and even our shortcut for a meaningful life. I am sure you’ve heard many times that your network is your net worth! Or you are the average of the 5 persons you surround yourself with.

This is a reality that I understood later in life! I always thought that I could rely on myself to achieve my goals. This determination brought me some results but up to a certain point! Around me I could see that some people less smart than me but with the right network & connections were getting way ahead of me! I talk more about this in my book Personal branding in the digital age and this is in part why I wrote that book.

This reality really hit me when I left my corporate job to start my business. And this is when I started to pay attention and decided to deliberately create my success network.

  • Why you should listen to the episode 14 with Penny Power and her take on building great networks
  • Why building strong relationships is crucial now in a fast-changing world than ever
  • How to build effective relationships even if you are not naturally good at it
  • Three practical tips to boost your relationship skills
  • how to Leverage the internet to build the relationships you want

Today I am continuing with Money issues that may prevent us to live the life we want and focus on internal issues and often unconscious stuff that we may have around money all our lives without really paying attention to. If we are not aware of what those issues are and take action to address them, we will never get paid what we deserve.

You may be someone who has worked for a long time for great companies. You have had good jobs but feel that your contribution is not recognised or valued as much as you’ll love; your value is often questioned, you struggle to juggle life and work and feel you are giving your all but are nowhere near what you thought you’d be by now at 40+.

You feel your contributions are masked, your ideas are minimized or hi-jacked and your seat at the table you rightly deserve constantly rocks.

But every day you show up in good spirit, do your best and try not to compromise your values. But no matter the real accolades you deserve never come your way – However you refuse to settle for less but feel you have exhausted all the options you tried to get to that place where you will be finally recognised. So what is happening?

There are symptoms that manifest on the surface but are only the tipping part of the iceberg and the real issues. Beneath these symptoms are hidden the root causes and deeply engrained conditioning that has been building up for years and decades. Sure, all your problems in life are not just about internal issues – there are also external factors that play a part. But here, my focus is on what is going with ourselves and have the power to do something about.

In this episode I talk about the:

  • 5 mindset issues that rob you from the life you want and the solutions we can find to burst these issues
  • Two key symptoms of fears, how they manifest and how to learn to identify them and take control
  • Why awareness is the first step to achieving our goals
  • 5 empowering thoughts to combat any negative thought around money
  • Why the clearer and the closer we get to our purpose, the more we will be able to control our fear

Download the workbook to identify your scariest money mindset issue and take immediate action to implement it. www.francinebeleyi.com/podcast

Welcome to Season 2 of Meaningful Work, Meaningful Life podcast. When I started this podcast 15 episodes ago, my focus was to find out and share with you how successful CEOs, entrepreneurs, thought-leaders have found their way doing Meaning Working and living a Meaningful Life.

In our conversation with my guests we discussed 3 key themes:

  • Meaning, how they’ve managed to do work that matter
  • Money, how to get paid well doing what we love
  • Movement, how they are impacting others.

The 3Ms, Meaning, Money, Movement that I discuss in this show is actually compression of the 7 pillars that I described in my first book ‘Personal Branding in the digital age: how to become a known expert, thrive and make a difference in a connected world.’

In the book, I’ve shared a lot of insights gained from my search for a solution and the insightful discussions with a wide range of people across all walks of life, with different levels and forms of success. The book is available as eBook, paperback and audiobook on Amazon, iTunes, Audible and other online book stores; go and check it out.

In this Season 2, I’d like to deep dive on the second M money – why? This is a topic that I’ve struggled with myself and my clients have also struggled with that led me to study marketing in depth. But this is also part of a bigger vision to see a world without poverty!

Last year, I had the opportunity to co-create a community of women entrepreneurs across Africa. When I looked at the issues that hundreds of them face, money issue is at the top of the chart in various ways. So, I’d like to dig a bit deeper around this issue and propose some of the ways we can be smarter when it comes to getting paid what we want & live the life we want.

Money is one of these topics that get people excited: positively and negatively… That is the point! There are taboos, limiting beliefs, fears, myths around money especially with people who have a big heart and want to help others but are struggling themselves. If you are one of those you understand what I mean, right? Perhaps you are a professional or executive in a corporate who are still struggling to negotiate a higher salary or get a promotion…If that’s you, it’s time to call this off, get educated and make better decisions.

In today’s episode I explore the three key reasons why you are not getting paid what you want. Listen to the episode to find out what they are and what you can do about them.

If you have one of these 3 problems and would love to solve them much smarter and a lot sooner, I can help you …. Book a call with me at www.francinebeleyi.com/call

This is a time for me to take a pause after the 15th episode to thank you all my listeners. Thank you for your support, the messages and reviews that you’ve left me whether it’s on iTunes, social media, on my website or by direct email. These messages mean a lot to me and encourage me to bring you more inspiration.

I’ve started this podcast back in January 2019 and we are now in April. 15 episodes is a good milestone, but I am only getting started and would love to celebrate my 50th episode, 100th episode and much more!

This podcast is the place where I interview today’s most inspiring thought-leaders, authors, speakers, CEOs, entrepreneurs and change makers who share how they found & followed their path in life. I want to have honest conversations with my guests to share both their successes and failures and you’ve seen how many of them were open and sincere when sharing what it took to get to where they are now.

Thought-provoking Insights and Practical Frameworks   I’ve been so inspired and learnt so much with my guests in the season 1 and hope you were too. They have given actionable steps and very useful frameworks to help come up with our own answers to live a fulfilled life

Akhatar Badhash (ep 8) shared the 6 Cs to live a fulfilled life: Conviction, Creativity, Capability, Capacity, Commitment and Compassion.

Suki Fuller (ep 9) shared the 3 As to apply to move from a mundane job to do something meaningful: Awareness of what you want to do, Advocacy is what you need to do to get there and finally, Action to make it happen.

Andrew Priestley (ep 13) talked about the 3 things that need to occur to achieve meaning: you've got to love what you do; you've got to actually be good at it and find where can you achieve the most value.

Jazz Rasool (ep 10) shared 3 core things that need to happen to bring you life: what you're passionate about, what you're talented in and what you have a sense of responsibility or duty for. If those 3 conditions are not there, you will struggle to make it.

You’ve heard all their amazing stories, their struggles and how they’ve come through on the other side. There is so much more wisdom from my other guests and I really invite you to listen to them all as they bring a different perspective that will give you much clarity.

I am preparing the Season 2 of the show with even more inspiring stories and very granular actionable steps my guests have taken to get to where they are today and how you too can do the same.

While I am putting all this in place, I will keep you company in the next episodes with my own insights of what you might consider to do meaningful work and live a meaningful life.

If there is a specific topic, you’d like me to discuss, please send me a message or comment under the show notes at www.francinebeleyi.com/podcast. I might pick your question to answer on the show; so don’t hesitate to send me your questions.
