1 John 5:1-5
5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
As believers we need to be continually alert to the danger of spiritual deception, which is an ever present danger. There are many warning given in scripture about spiritual deception, especailly in the last days. A sure knowlege of the truth is the best antidote against false teaching.
What have you been learning through this pandemic? How has it shaped your beliefs? What has become more important to you? How has your relationship with God fared, has it grown?
As we look at the book of Job you find yourself going through a lot of pain, suffering and anguish. God sometimes will use painful circumstances to get our attention when we wander away from Him.
This week Pastor Adrian continues with part 3 of his 4 part series titled Walking Through The Storm. Today we study from the book of Judges chapter 2 vs 6 through to chapter 3 vs 6
This week Pastor Adrian continues with part 2 of his 4 part series titled Walking Through The Storm. Today he looks at Matthew 14:22-33 when the deciples are on a boat and caught in a storm. Jesus calls Peter out of the boat and as long as he stays focused on Jesus he is able to walk toward him on the water! But when he begins to doubt he begins to sink. Stay focused on Jesus and never doubt that He is with you through the storms!!
This week Pastor Adrian begins a 4 part series titled Walking Through The Storm. Today he takes us through 1 Samuel 27, 29 & 30 where we'll learn some basic principles and precepts to help us navigate the storms of life. Most importantly we'll discover why it's so important to remain focused on Jesus!
He is Risen! Jesus conquered the grave. Our God is alive! Share that with someone today.
It's Good Friday. The day we remember the incredible, unimaginable sacrifice, our Lord and savior Jesus Christ did for us on the cross at Calvary. He gave his life, took on the sins of the world in our place. He took the punishment we deserved, so that we can live with the hope and knowledge that we will spend our eternity with Him in glory! It's Friday, but Sunday is coming!
Many times it's easy to spot the difference between a truth and a lie. Other times, the one telling the lie is careful to craft the lie by gently twisting us away from the truth. In this week's message from Pastor Adrian at Lighthouse Amherstburg, we'll hear how important it is for us to stay in God's Word so we can spot the difference between truth and error.
1 Cor 13:13 says, "So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." Jesus taught us to love and the experience of love is wonderful! We love our spouse, we may love playing sports, we might love our new car, but we need to be careful that "things" don't become the focus of our love. We love because He first loved us. No matter who they are, their sins have been forgiven; no matter who they are, they know God who is from the beginning; no matter who they are, they have the strength which can face and overcome the evil one.
God gives us His Word not to make us comfortable but to conform us to the character of Christ. And that goes way beyond pious feelings and good intentions. It penetrates to the level of our schedules and cheque books, and friendships and jobs and families. If our faith makes no practical difference there, then what difference does it make? Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

What's been holding you back from reaching your full potential in life? But more importantly, what's been holding you back from reaching your full relationship with Jesus?
Distraction - shallow thinking - shallow living
Jesus taught through parables. Considered one of the most important parables Jesus taught, the parable of the sower, the seed, and the soil talks about the different ways God's word grows and takes root, or withers and dies. Satan works overtime to keep us distracted in order to prevent God's word from taking root and flourishing in our lives. Prior to reading God's word, pray that you will remained focused to receive what God has for you. Not only are we receiving God's word for our own growth, but we are to be sowers of that seed for others around us. Does God have your undivided attention?
When Jesus was born there shone a star and the wise-men followed it to find and worship the King of Kings. Herod wanted to find Jesus too, but for a much more sinister reason. And then there were the people of Jerusalem, who had no desire at all to find him. They were completely indifferent.
And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
For many, Christmas is all about what they want; and if they don’t get it, they are unhappy. As we consider Christmas, we ought to have a renewed desire to serve the Lord and live for Him. Join us as we take a look at the birth of Christ as told in the Gospel of Luke.
Rather than seeking the latest gift why not seek ways to give of yourself unto the Lord? Why not surrender your life unto the Lord in return for all that He has done?
Just as Mary was chosen to be the mother of Jesus through the miraculous virgin birth. So too, was Joseph chosen by God to be the earthly father of our Savior, Jesus. This was not how Joseph had planned to begin his married life with Mary. God had a bigger plan for Mary and Joseph. We don't always understand the big picture, but the best way to show God our love is simply to obey Him. Joseph stayed focused on God and was willing to be used by Him.
God has the full authority and the right to bring your life into sync with His plans through whatever He deems necessary. Would you be a willing participant to bring about His plans today?
What is Christmas all about? So many in the world think it's about what gifts they'll get to open. Some think it's a time to celebrate peace. Mainly, the miracle of God gifting himself to us that we might have hope in this dark world.

Are we limiting God with our unbelief?

Our plans are usually based on our fears rather than our faith. Jacob prayed for protection, not direction.
Most of us plan, take action, and then pray. Rather, we should:

How long does it take you to surrender to God's plan for your life? Is God wrestling with you in an area of your life? What will it take for you to let go and let God.
Through the wrestling, what is God trying to tell you? Are you listening?
Trust Him.
How can a God of mercy, justice and love command Abraham to offer his one and only son as a sacrifice? Actually, God did not require Abraham to do anything He hasn't already done Himself. For God so love the world that He gave his one and only son. God will test us to see where our loyalties lie. Have you ever told God about your struggles?
We’ve all learned to wait on God to deliver on His promises. You wanted God to come through with His promises and it doesn’t happen according to your time schedule, so you resign yourself to the inevitable, get discouraged and think to yourself God’s not going to deliver me.
We need to get our eyes off our circumstances and focus on who God is.

Sodom fell into the slippery slope of sin. The people of Sodom pursued the gratification of their wants and desires in the area of their sexuality. We play around with it like its no big deal, yet it produces disastrous results. We openly see it being mocked like its no big deal. There is an awful price to pay for sin. Join us as we continue our study in Genesis 3.**

To be a follower of Christ does not release us from unpleasant and challenging situations. The question I need to ask myself is, do my relationships reflect Christlike character? As believers we ought to take the high road, which is applying godly standards in the circumstances we find ourselves in. Lighthouse Church will bear a greater witness to the town of Amherstburg, when we are being transformed and changed by the word of God, into Christ's likeness.
Leaders can make or break a church. What makes leadership such a big responsibility? One part of the answer is implicit in 1 Timothy 5:17-25. The importance of the congregation's trust in its leadership. A member's mistakes may affect only the member, but an elder's mistakes affect the whole church. Truthfully, if a church is to continue to exist and to carry out its God-given task, it must support and trust its leadership. God has laid out these specifics in his word. We'll study them in this week's podcast from Lighthouse Amherstburg.
In 1 Timothy 5:1-16, Paul teaches us how we should be treating people in the church. Just as families care for one another, we as the church family need to care for one another within the church body. In this passage we look at two of those groups of people within the church body. Those who need guidance or correction, which is never an easy thing to do. We'll also examine how we can look after the widows and those in need. In this week's message, Pastor Adrian walks us through the gentle ways we can approach the challenge of rebuking each other when needed, and how we can help and look after those in need.
Life is a series of choices. The question is, are we men making the right ones? Our choices will have impact for generations. What we do will influence those around us for good or bad. We are to live our lives for the glory of God and bring honor to Him. We are not to be narcissistic in our thinking but rather servant leaders. We are challenged to train ourselves to be godly. This means we are to exercise ourselves routinely with determination, which takes discipline and purposeful decision. In the same way, prayer, fasting, studying the bible and other spiritual disciplines are helpful in developing a fuller relationship with Christ. We are back in 1 Timothy 4. We see that today, there is a turning from the truth of Gods Word. 1 John 4: 1- 3, John talks about the future and the man of sin, the antichrist, and describes him. He says, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit." This is very similar to what Paul is talking about in our text. "But test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world". We'll unpack this further during this week's podcast.
Mothers Day is to be celebrated. Being a Mom is a tough challenge which many are not prepared for! The dilemma that Moms can face is becoming distracted by what is not necessary. Moms should never allow the daily challenges to supersede the main thing, taking time to listen to what Jesus says. David Watson wrote, “It is the church that is willing to die to worldly standards that will know the power of Christ’s resurrection. It may be envied for its depths of loving relationships or for its spontaneous joy; it may be hated and persecuted for its revolutionary lifestyle exposing the hollow values and destructive selfishness of the society it seeks to serve; but it certainly cannot be ignored. When God reigns among His people, they become a city set on a hill and cannot be hid”
All believers are called to be servants in the church. In this week's podcast we look at what it means to be a servant leader and the qualifications of a deacon. We sometimes get the wrong idea that if you're not qualified to be an elder, you can be a deacon. When we look at the spiritual qualifications we realise that all servants need to be spiritually mature. God has set high standards for leadership in the church.
No one is perfectly qualified to be a church leader. In 1 Timothy 3:1-7 we are going to unpack the qualifications of an elder. None of us are perfect, but there really shouldn't be any glaring errors in their lives. There should be a passion to grow in their walk with Christ that is evident to all. It is a high and holy calling.
Men are not superior over women nor women over men. In Christ men and women are equal, Galatians 3:28, but at the same time God has specified different roles for men and women both at home and in church leadership. Join us this week as we take a closer look at 1 Timothy 2:8-15
Prayer is always a necessity in the Christian's life. God is sovereign and He calls on us to pray. We live in a day and era where there is a greater need for prayer than ever before. Your prayer life will reveal the intensity of your concern for God's will to be done.

1 Timothy 1:15 states, Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. In this episode of the podcast we'll study how important it is to remember our testimony of God's saving grace in our lives. We need to humbly remember that apart from God's saving grace we were condemned to spend eternity in hell. Remebering that should produce within us an overwhelming sense of gratitude in what Christ did for us.
The missing ingredient in most gospel presentations is the proper use of God's law to bring meaningful conviction of sin that leads to life transformation. Do I have a heart like God's? Jonah was displeased and angry about God's compassion for the people of Nineveh. He has been having an ongoing conflict with God's mercy toward the lost. Jonah's viewpoint is going to be challenged and corrected by God. What's our viewpoint of those who are lost? Join us as Pastor Adrian concludes our study on the life of Jonah
In the fourth message of our series on Jonah, Pastor Ninaber explains how Jonah was sent a second time to Nineveh. Did he learn his lesson? Yes, because he learned it is better to obey God than run from him. No, because he still did not have God’s heart of compassion for pagan Gentiles. This is still relevant to our lives today. We need to have a heart and desire to share God's message of redemption with those around us!
