We can do this course remotely via email with individual Zoom, Team, Skype or WhatsApp appointments as needed. I am located at the Greater Seattle, Washington, USA area. For example 9am to noon my time is 6pm to 9pm in Germany. In Australia your time can be is 19 hours ahead of my time or 10am your time will be 3pm the day before my time. Because there is a limited number of hours a day I must also limit the number of students enrolled.
The full price is $1,500US for 35 hours in classroom training at MITAGS-West, Seattle, Washington, USA, including materials in class with other students.
You can save $1,000US and the cost of travel and lodging by studying remotely. As a remote student, you save money by reducing my overhead costs as well as getting my individual instruction as needed by appointment via Zoom, Teams, Skype or WhatsApp. Remote students will need to be able to print their training materials as well as scan and email their lessons for grading. Upon successful course completion students will be sent a Certificate of Completion. Arrangements for payment are done via PayPal.

Congratulations, this is the last lesson of the course. After listening to the Podcast while viewing the Notes and the WORKBOOK do the calculations needed to complete the two Barge Draft Survey Calculations, Start an Finish so that you can determine the cargo loaded using Imperial and Metric Units. You should also review the API Manual I sent you that covers Barge Draft Surveys.
Please note: I have also provided the correct answers for the two Barge Draft Surveys, Start and Finish. Feel free to check you work as you go, the job will show you the way. You will learn by doing!
By now you should be able to use the Ballast and Fresh Water Tanks as well as the Oil Tank Tables because they both require the same method to correct for List and Trim to determine a Volume of a Tank. You should also know how to do the Volume corrections for Temperature using the Tables required to determine the Volume Correction factors. I also provided all blank work form for you. Make as many copies of the forms as needed. For this project use the same Hydrostatic Data you did for the vessel with the LBP of 220 meters, however I changed the problem and I want you to use a LBP of 185 meters and the the position of the draft marks as noted with the drafts.

A Deadweight Survey is done normally when only the Surveyor attended the Finish of loading a dry bulk cargo.
The procedure is basically the same as a Draft Survey except there is no Corrected Light Displacement. All tanks must be sounded and corrected for list and trim. The Light Ship Weight and Constant must be determined from the vessel's approved loading manual. Any other miscellaneous weights other than cargo must be idenified such as an anchor on the bottom.
For this project refer to your work in the preceding exercise. Use the Finishing Ballast calculations and the Starting FO and DO calculations along with the Finishing Drafts and water density to determine the Cargo Weight by Deadweight Survey.
To determine the Cargo Weight by Deadweight Survey the following form should be used:
Corrected Loaded Displacement
-FO & DO
-Ballast & FW
-Light Ship
-Constant
Any other identifiable Weights
Cargo Weight by Deadweight Survey
The only difference between a Draft Survey and a Deadweight Survey should be between the Ship's Published Constant and Light Ship Weight and the ACTUAL Ship's Constant and Light Ship Weight which you were not able to determine. Remember in a Draft Survey the Values of Ship's Constant and Light Ship Weight are included in Start and Finish Surveys so they are canceled out when finding the difference between the Loaded and Light Conditions.

Corredting Fuel Oil Soundings for List, Trim and Temperature. Explaining how a Bunker Survey and a Draft Survey differ as well as a Fuel Oil Agreement needed for a Bunker Survey
This Lesson uses Step 6 of the WORKBOOK to calculate corrections for list and trim to tank soundings or ullages to determine the equivalent zero list and trim volume of liquid in ship's tanks using actual Tank Tables.
Introduction to sounding water and oil tanks on ships, sounding tubes, sounding tapes with bobs, nomenclature and procedures.
Now that you have done all 10 exercises in Steps 1 to 5 completely by hand using a calculator, try to build a spread sheet that will do the same to check you work. To be a true professional you must be able to do these calculations by hand, however all the professional Surveyors I know these days has a laptop or tablet that helps them to do the job faster and more accurately. Sorry it is not my job to teach you how to use or make a spreadsheet. I you would prefer not to make your own spreadsheets, that is OK with me. We will still keep doing the next Steps of the Workbook manually.
Looking forward to what is next. So far you should now be able to determine the entire weight of the vessel from its observed condition, however we still need to sound all the tanks, voids spaces, engine room bilges, and cargo bilges to determine the weights to deduct from the observed condition to get a weight that represents the loaded and light conditions for only the Cargo, Light Ship and Constant. The difference between the Loaded and Light Conditions will be the Cargo Loaded or Discharged.
We will also cover when the time is correct how to do a Deadweight Survey, a Bunker Survey, and a Draft Survey of a Barge without Hydrostatic Data by the time you finish this course.
This will all be taught in a Step by Step manner covering how to determine the weight of Ballast and Fresh Water Tanks, Oil Tanks and Miscellaneous Weights.
This Lesson covers Hydrometers, Water Samplers and the Corredtion to Displacement for Harbor Water Density.
This is also know as NEMOTO's Correction or the "B" Correction to Displacement for trim Listen to find out why this correction is always positive.
