The Engine Mom Podcast is a show designed to build community through story-telling and to inspire women (especially Moms) to set goals for themselves and think outside the box when it comes to their lifestyle and work. As Moms, we are the driving force of our family; often masters of multi-tasking. Much like an engine, we are made up of many moving parts that create momentum in our lives. Ignoring a single moving part can stall progress toward meeting our goals. In order for us to strive to be better than yesterday, it’s vital that we identify what fuels us: our passions and purpose. It’s important that we re-fuel through self-care, exercise, healthy food, goals setting and by surrounding ourselves with women who are equally as driven. Many of the women that you will hear from on this show run their own businesses, are creative professionals or have unique, yet relatable stories to share about pursuing their passions while raising their family. These stories give an interesting perspective on life as a Mom and are sure to fuel you with inspiration for making the most of your own life.

Learning to let go has helped me shift my expectations in order to make life more manageable and in this episode, I'm sharing some decisions I've made about the future of the podcast based on my current season of life and the goals my family and I have for our future. I've referenced “seasons of life” a lot lately. What I mean is that we all have chunks of time in our lives where our focus or priorities have to shift for one reason or another. During these times, often we have to reevaluate our priorities and that also includes our current routines and schedules that we’re used to. Deciding to take a step back and changing the frequency of releasing podcast content was a really difficult decision. In a way, it feels like a failure, like I can't handle recording twice a week - but I realized that in order to practice what I preach - this is my way of putting on the brakes and taking care of myself. I hope that this resonates with you in some way and that you can find peace with making intentional decisions about your time and energy during different seasons of life. This is Part 4 of How to Make Room for the Things that Matter Most in 2019 and in this episode, I’ll be talking about putting all of the pieces (from parts 1-3) in by using a little metaphor. It may be a bit abstract, but want you to imagine that you and 2019 are in a relationship. Think about some of the best relationships you have. What values are those relationships built upon? Let’s say that your relationship values, (the things that are most important to you) are communication and understanding, mutual respect, trust, and having fun. How can you bring the values from your most precious relationships to your relationship with 2019? Listen in to hear more! This month, I'm creating a series of “Rev” episodes focusing on how to make more time for the things that matter in 2019. This third part is all about being Ok with "just OK" (for now). Lately I’ve seen a lot of Mamas out there sharing messages like “lower your expectations” and “be ok with being behind” and I wanted to echo these sentiments because they are things I am constantly reminding myself as a Type A person. It’s something I struggle with and I realize that in order to focus on what truly matters, I have to be ok with the non-priority items to be mediocre. I have to be ok with done over perfect. A few take-aways I want to share: Understand that your best (your energy, your patience, you productivity) is going to be different from day to day Encourage patience, productivity and energy by lowering your standards - there are certain things in your life that don’t have to meet the highest of expectations like your kids’ bed being made perfectly Sometimes the routine falls to the wayside, and that's Ok - what can you let go of that isn't your highest priority? Jen Lumanlan holds a Master's in Psychology focused on Child Development and another in Education. She's the parent of a four-year-old daughter and hosts the Your Parenting Mojo podcast, which is a reference guide for parents of toddlers and preschoolers based on scientific research and principles of respectful parenting. In each episode she examines an issue related to child development from all sides so parents can understand what the body of research says about it, and how to use this information to align their day-to-day parenting with their goals for raising their children. Listen in to hear Jen and I talk about: the variety of gender differences among boys and girls one thing I found interesting: that there are more differences between any two boys or any two girls than there are between boys and girls how gender 'norms' are a social construct, and begins at a very young age how children form and understand social groups and learn to expect certain interactions through routines three things to do when addressing gender with your children and why it's important to correct ideas / gender stereotypes every time if you're goal is to break those stereotypes Links Mentioned in Episode: Website: https://yourparentingmojo.com Podcast: https://yourparentingmojo.com/episodes/ YMP Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2174808219425589/ YMP Membership Group: https://yourparentingmojo.com/membership/ Engine Mom listeners special offer: 100 Books to Help Children Learn Get your FREE EMOM Workout: Text "workout" to 858-704-7705.Thank you for all of your continued support for The Engine Mom Podcast!! This month, I'm creating a series of “Rev” episodes focusing on how to make more time for the things that matter in 2019. This second part is all about getting clear on your priorities. We can look at priorities for the year, or break them down by quarter or even by month / week, and day. One way to help dial in what your priorities are is making what I called an "Ick & Excited" list, determine your Word of the Year, and understand that anxiety can trick us in to feeling like we are doing something - in reality, the best way to combat anxiety and worry is to just start somewhere. Today, I am using this “Rev” episode to remind you (and myself) - that you are enough. I've had the thoughts: "I could have done more." "I should do more". The comparison trap and the negative self-talk is real and can be especially nasty around the holidays: so-and-so volunteered to run the toy-drive at work, they have it all together; I should have done more to decorate the house; I forgot to order the holiday cards on time; I suck, forgot to move the damn Elf... In this episode, I give you a quick tip to allow you to reflect on all the amazing things you DID accomplish this year - big & small. Write it down. Be amazed at how much you do, versus the things you don't do. And cut yourself some slack, don't put so much pressure on yourself. We wouldn’t put that much pressure on our kids, so why do we do this to ourselves? Remember: Today, tomorrow. On New Years' Day and every day: YOU ARE ENOUGH!
