Co-hosts Matthew & Rizzle interview the most interesting projects, artists, and creators in the NFT & crypto spaces. Proudly sponsored by Proof of Beauty Studios.
On this week's episode of MARS, Matthew & Rizzle kick things off showering Sho in shoooo [sic] much praise.
Matthew specifically shouts out last week's Afties soliloquy about the "Infinite Pause" it felt like the majority of the crypto space was stuck in.
The conversation jumps into a preview of the WIP this Thursday featuring the Italy-based metaverse project DVERSO that the Vipe crew introduced to all of us last month. DVERSO has been cooking up a cool metaverse project under the radar of a lot of folks, which led Matthew & Rizzle to ponder how (and if) all the metaverse projects that are currently out there can differentiate themselves and strategies that others can adopt in a world of ever increasing same-same-but-different metaverse projects.
Right before signing off, Matthew downloads Rizzle on the latest crypto drama courtesy of Yuga Labs and their bungled attempt at launching the Larva Labs Artist Residency (that may have already been sunset?) that was set to feature a paid drop by the stellar artist Nina Chanel exclusively open to Punks holders, that, apparently, most Punks holders neither wanted nor appreciated.

On this week's episode of MARS, Matthew & Rizzle recap last week's WIP Meetup featuring the Vipe squad and a whole gang of freshly minted Grifter Squadies kicking ass, taking names, and racing one another over in DEVERSO, an immediately playable metaverse project that many found out about for the first time in real time during the WIP.
That conversation transitioned into a meta discussion on the state of metaverse projects and demand, which in turn expanded into a (scary) discussion led by Matthew on potential threats facing crypto broadly that ended with Rizzle saying some magic words to minimize the Matt's worries. For now.

On this week's episode of MARS, Matthew & Rizzle talk about the Grifter Squaddies drop on vipe.io brought to the metaverse by the legendary Toxsam. Fun fact: Matthew, Rizzle, and NonFunGerbil Luke all got a similar (but actually rather rare) Grifter Squaddie.
After red-pilling Rizzle into scooping his squaddie, the conversation shifted to talking about a Brookhawk-inspired topic: Interface. The app that launched in 2023 is still around and pushing out updates, but many other projects have largely incorporated it's main functionality of following other wallets and tracking onchain transaction history as a feature.
That led into a reflection on Cent, being too early when building something net-new in a burgeoning sector, the hair width's difference between succeeding and failing, and how we are ALL hoping the purple app doesn't eff it up.

After giving a so-so breakdown of what Up and bonding curves are, Matthew called an audible and brought Cameron, co-founder of Cent, to give a better overview of what Up is and how to think about it.
To round things out, Matthew & Rizzle give folks a quick preview of tomorrow's Cyberbrokers-themed WIP Meetup. Pro-tip: make sure you sign up to https://www.paradigmfound.com/ ahead of time.

What. A. Tuesday. Sheesh.
On this week's episode of MARS, Matthew & Rizzle try to unpack all the big things that went down on Tuesday March 26th in Cryptoland starting with the sold out CENTS release over on sovrn.art. Matthew explains the nuance and artistic intent behind the project before touching on the $200k "Vampire Kiss" DRAKULA is currently carrying out by offering video content creators up to $1000 in $DEGEN a week to take their Tik-tok talents to the Farcaster protocol powered video sharing app.
Before getting to the third big news event of Tuesday, Rizzle jumps in to give an up date on Rizzlefest 2024 and sings Charl3s of Nifty Island's praises for absolutely crushing the WIP last week and previewing tomorrow's WIP featuring the spectacular Bay Backner who will be taking the WIP Fam into Decentraland to tour the MESH Fair Art Week build out.
On the way to wrapping up, Matthew gives a quick overview of the $62M Munchables hack that happened on the Blast shitchain before highlighting the badass SEAL 911 Team that appears to have swooped in to save the day, $62M, and somehow and extra $35M in the process.

Speaking of onchain, a large portion of the show focused on the "gentrification" and history of the term 'onchain' in addition to discussions covering last week's WIP featuring Elated Pixel, tomorrow's WIP featuring Stina Jones, Marble Cards and the WIP Tower Tournament designed by Paradoxx and feat. prizes from Misfit Pixels, the lag between the latest market cycle focused on coin-focused investing and cryptoart collecting. While the latter may feel more muted, some major lightning strike moments have occurred recently that have seen high value acquisitions that only help illuminate artists and collections also on the market.

On this week's episode of MARS, Matthew & Rizzle take it back to the summer of 2020 when the late great Alotta Money became the very first sponsor of the WIP. Rizzle talked about the footage Paradoxx captured live during that WIP and the response it elicited when Rizzle re-shared on Twitter a few days ago.
That led to a deeper reflection on how everyone who has been minting, collecting, and building on the blockchain up until this point can better preserve and re-tell all of those tokenized stories that exist across the crypto space.
Towards that end, more consciously minting ephemera published around tokenized objects onchain (e.g. just like we've been doing by minting this very episode onchain on CollectPods HERE) is one major way we can help weave individual threads of history into more complete historical tapestries.

Before checking out for the Thanksgiving break Matthew & Rizzle recorded a relaxed pod reflecting on the welcome break that many will be able to enjoy before the last sprint of the year begins with Basel and the rest of the December blitz.
In particular the perceptible increase in "blockchain archeologists" aka the folks putting out respectable bids on older mints has been a welcome bright spot amidst the still swirling storm clouds following the Binance vs Curmudgeon States of America announcement yesterday. NFTs are coordinates to digital history that bids help recall.
The boys also talk about the sense that many seem to be feeling about how crypto may help increase the signal of specific identities amidst a potential ai-powered creative boom that would otherwise overwhelm our human abilities to identify the good from the bad [note: a lot of hypothetical examples bandied about by talking heads focus on ai created images and how crypto could help folks distinguish between non-ai images and ai-created images, but may not be the best framing].

This week's episode of the Matthew & Rizzle Show kicks off with a preview of an absolutely epic WIP Meetup slated for tomorrow. Check out The WIP Meetup's twitter for all the details.
As the boys often do, they then zoom out and and highlight the completely open-sourced playbook they have developed around the WIP. Everyone on the growing WIP Crew joined simply becuase they raised a hand to help support and their addition to the Crew added value to the show. This specific example can be applied (And seen in other early projects) over and over - the only limiting factor is the root idea and how extensible it is.
Crypto is for doers. And if you want to do something, the only barrier standing in the way of getting in on the action is yourself and taking the first step or raising your hand.

To kick off this week's episode, Matthew & Rizzle hit folks across the head (for like the millionth time) reminding everyone about the epic WIP Meetup that took place last Thursday which saw $5k in NFT prizes provided and distributed by an #anonsnail.
That re-cap paves the way for a conversation focused on our burgeoning onchain reality using Elon Musk's recent (partially correct) comments on NFTs as a guest on the Joe Rogan Experience as a jump off point that somehow ends with some deep commentary on how the tectonic plate of the old-world is colliding with the blockchain powered onchain tectonic plate of crypto in interesting ways. Trust us, it will all make sense after you listen to this episode.

We love you, Async.Art. Long live Async.Art.
This week's episode of the Matthew & Rizzle Show starts off with a somber reflection of Async.Art, the revolutionary programmable art project that just announced they will be winding down of their business a few days ago.
The two original co-founders, Conlan & n0shot, are dear friends dating back to Cent days, so this news hits especially hard. Matthew & Rizzle talk about the highlights of the project and discuss how hard startup life and founding a new venture at the bleeding edge of the blockchain can be. Gone maybe, but never forgotten.
The last half of the show is dedicated to a much brighter subject: the epic Halloween bash and $5k in prize giveaways planned for the WIP Meetup tomorrow (2023 Oct. 26). Nuff said.
Also, shout-out to Trislit for making a guest appearence in the middle of the show as Matthew furiously searched for Terra Naomi's name to give her the accolades she deserved for being a powerhouse while at Async.Art.

This week Matthew & Rizzle recap the past few months of the WIP and the buzz around it that has been growing.
It's no secret or surprise to folks who have been to any of the WIPs held over the past few months that attendance continue to grow each week.
Why is that, you ask?
Well, for one we've been leaning into fun in-world experiences that you need to actually be present for. And two, the interoperable future we've all been building towards for years is finally starting to manifest in easier to implement ways.
But again, it's all about having fun and being weird which is the plan for tomorrow's WIP Meetup as well.

Who's got the popcorn?
A polarizing debate erupted all over and around crypto twitter yesterday after the maestro Matt Kane revealed his serialized collection "Contractual Obligations" to 250 SR Rare Pass holders.

Regardless of whichever side of the debate you may fall on, one fact remains true: Matt has us all talking about art again.

We're back after a brief hiatus (all Rizzle's fault with him heading down to Austin, TX doing important things with Found3r).
To kick things off we dive into the reason why we took a week off - said important irl meetup in Austin, TX led by David All and the Found3r team who are focused on the real, human stories of web3.
The conversation branches off from there to cover the differences between putting on irl meetups versus url gatherinds and the amazing energy that is re-emerging around The WIP Meetup (big shoutout to Hyperfy and all the amazing updates their INCREDIBLY lean team is pushing out seemingly all the time).
Matt waxes poetic on the need to lean into into pure play in the metaverse (aka digital spaces where folks can live, work and play) highlighted by The WIP of course, as well as amazing projects and and initiatives like ZeroOne, the race track and scoreboard that Misfit Pixels + Carl put together, and all the amazing virtual spaces that artists like Bananakin are putting together.
The bottomline is that there is an ever expanding and far more accessible toolkit available to anyone with an internet connection that people can leverage to help craft and build playful digital and virtual experiences. The time to have fun is now.

This week Matthew carries out a performance review of Rizzle's last four years in NFT land to figure out how he got from Cent to where he is today.
We cover a lot of ground including his pre-Cent days (both as a normie in the "real world" and in crypto) as well as his time at NFT42, Monaverse, and all the stops in between.

IT's kind of wild to think about, but today marks the four year anniversary of Rizzle reverse-spotlight interviewing Matthew on his podcast which immediately became the shared podcast yall know today as the Matthew & Rizzle Show.
To mark this heroic (for crypto) milestone, Rizzle interviews Matthew (again) and asks him what he's been up to over the last four years which results in Matthew talking, a lot.
Note: There are far too many names to shout-out and thank that have had a profound impact on our lives over the last four years, however, we tried to shout as many folks out as possible. If you don't hear your name know that we are still thinking of you.

In a couple weeks on Wednesday, August 30th, Matthew & Rizzle will release a brand new reverse spotlight where Rizzle will interview Matt on what he's been up to in the four years since first recording the very first reverse spotlight with Rizzle (on August 30, 2019).
We're making it easy for anyone that wants to listen to that original recording by re-sharing it today complete with a LINK to the original transcript and Cent post.
Rizzle takes the mic for a special episode with David and Kelsey of ChangeDAO and the newly formed Found3r coalition to discuss how to get voices of the true builders of web3 heard by those making decisions that directly impact the livelihood of the web3 industry in the United States.
Found3r is a nonprofit, nonpartisan coalition of entrepreneurs, builders, and innovators dedicated to the responsible adoption of Web3 and blockchain technology.

The boys kick the show off leaking some of the fun in store for folks who hit up the WIP Meetup this Thursday (8/3) at 12 pm PT. Coldie is taking the WIP over to talk about his latest project DEyes Legends, but we have a few fun tricks up out sleeves to keep things fun & weird.
Pulling on the thread of experimentation that is (thankfully) becoming more conspicuous in the space again, Matt talks about the recent Fakewhale LOG launch brought to you by Skygolpe & Jesse Draxler amongst others and briefly riffs on what that art-writing focused project could become.

This episode is full of self-debunking, talking about a new crypto-media x web3 social app and getting ready for a new first at this week's WIP Meetup.
But to kick the episode off, Matt & Rizzle talk about Paradoxx's Code Trip launch that will happen over on Prohibition Art. Absolutely epic project.
After sending all the good vibes and love Paradoxx's way, Matt talks about a mirror article he recently published about Interface.Social, a mobile app available for iPhone and on the Google Play Store that lets users follow and track the onchain history created by other ETH addresses, and why he's excited about it which leads into a Rizzle rant about why he doesn't like the ENS subscription model (lmao), before the duo wrap up the show talking about the "Bring Your Kids to the WIP" event planned for this Thursday's WIP Meetup at 12 pm PT / 7 pm UTC.

The boys are back from break and...are rather underwhelmed with what they missed (or rather didn't miss) over the last three weeks.
Granted we are still firmly in peak vacation season, so no need to sound any alarms or anything.
That said a few things of note that happened during the break were discussed: The Cent team airdropped the Valuable NFTweets minted way back in 2020 to everyone who collected those vintage NFTs (for more details check out this thread by Matthew); the surprisingly not negative summary judgement in the XRP/Ripple case; some valuable folks to follow on twitter that are more visible now thanks to the relatively more quiet atmosphere; and the next few weeks of the WIP Meetup.

In an effort years in the making, we learn how CodeTrip has blended videography and software engineering to push the limits of onchain generative art with an immersive, interactive, and cinematic experience. We also learn what kind of snacks were consumed at Paradoxx's dining room to fuel their creative energy.

In the last recording before summer break (for 3 weeks!), Matthew & Rizzle focus first on the epic WIP planned for tomorrow, June 22nd at 12 pm PT, featuring an Aavegotchi x Monaverse takeover. There will be mini-games, a VRM fashion show of sorts, and a DJ afterparty. Don't miss out.
After the preview of tomorrow's WIP, the conversation takes a more self-reflective and nostalgic look back on the evolution of the WIP (starting out with a simple reverse spotlight conducted by Rizzle on Matthew back in the old Cent days).
Long time listeners, Cent OGs, and members of the WIP fam will probably love this episode along with anyone curious how this weird, metaverse circus got off the ground.

The crypto space feels like it regressed 5 years; but it only feels like that. We're actually in a much better place. It's just unfortunate the actions of a few despicable degens overshadows all the growth and development the space has made, especially in contrast with where we were during the last bear circa 2018~2020.
I've said it and will continue to do so: folks need to make sure they disconnect from their URL lives and experience all the great things that IRL has to offer, especially as we head into summer time.
Touch grass. Surf waves. Travel. Meet up with your digital frens.
All of those things will leave you feeling inspired and re-energized in a way that will help bring that positive energy and good vibes back into crypto and NFT lands.
Shout out to anyone who will be in Lisbon, Portugal next week attending the NFC Summit - hit up Matthew on twitter if you are going to be there.

Ahead of his upcoming Nifty Gateway drop, I had the pleasure of sitting down to record a very chill chat with the digital artist Alimo.
Alimo has a lovely post-pop nature-themed drawing style that makes his work instantly recognizable. If you ever shopped at Patagonia, Apple, Nike, Volcom, among other places, chances are high that you've seen Alimo's work before.
Over the course of our chat, we talk about Alimo's artistic journey that emerged early on alongside a passion for outdoor sports, most notably skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing, that took a gnarly detour at university where he initially majored in business(!) before switching to digital arts.
After graduation, Alimo traveled the world before finding his way into agency life during a spontaneous trip to Saigon which ultimately took him to San Diego and San Francisco where his Alimo artist persona really grew roots.
We dive into how Alimo found crypto & NFTs, how he met Bryan Brinkman, and of course dive into all the details around his upcoming drop on Nifty Gateway titled "Summer Time."
"Summer Time" by Alimo will go live on Nifty Gateway Thursday, May 25th at 6:30 pm ET. You can preview the collection and set a drop alert HERE.

It sure seems like a lot of folks are on vacation. Like, not just from crypto and NFT lands, but in real life.
Historically, in the period from May to the end of August, sales tend to slow down when it comes to the art-side of things. Couple that with an overall sluggish market and it makes sense that a lot of folks are starting longer vacations earlier. There is no need to be on 24/7 every single day.
But that doesn't mean there's nothing going on. On the contrary, from mega corporations like Nike and Starbucks or Red Bull launching NFT-powered projects to artists like Trevor Jones & The Evening Standard on-boarding new blood or crypto games like Axie Infinity getting their game listed on the Apple app store, there is probably more meaningful work happening now than at any period during the bull in terms of things that are growing the pie for everyone.
There are also hugely notable events that are aimed at existing participants, like Alpha Centauri Kids' epic 48 individual 1/1 auctions that grossed over a million dollars last week, amongst other events.
So, before, during or after your holiday from NFT land, make sure you take note of all the work that's being put out.

Matthew & Rizzle do a little shitting on parades and stirring of pots on this week's episode of MARS.
A non-trivial number of projects continue to innovate and push the envelope on what's possible in NFT Land amidst the current storm of $hitcoins and $memecoins, like Async.Art and their latest innovation: dynamic blueprints. That's great. That is exciting. For folks who've been in the space, we need this continued innovation. But most innovation is on-chain, and in times like these when gas prices are soaring, doing anything on-chain is prohibitively expensive for anyone new or looking to enter the space. That's not great. That sucks, straight up.
Cue The Oath, a collaboration between Trevor Jones x Apollo Entertainment x Evening Standard that went live last week on Nifty Gateway that was claimed, for free, by 20,200 collectors and saw 12k+ new NG account sign ups, including many, many first time NFT collectors, some of whom have already engaged in collecting paid NFT releases. The space needs more friction-less on-boarding ports for new participants to enter.
On top of on-boarding, it's also essential to keep crypto writ large a place that's as welcoming and hospitable to the subversive, fringe and weird elements of society as it is to the mega-consumer corporate players. The latter are important for mass-adoption, but the former are essential to keep this place a desirable destination for subsequent generations that create that new-new that excites culture.

Ahead of her upcoming genesis Nifty Gateway drop, I had the great fortune to grab some time and chat with the powerhouse young artist who goes by the artist name JisuArtist.
Jisu has been blazing an exciting path for her art that marries the anime aesthetic with fine art flourishes. While still incredibly young, Jisu has already lived an amazingly unique and exciting career at the intersection of gaming and content creation prior to her entrance into the sphere of fine digital art and NFTs.
We unpack A LOT over the course of our conversation beginning with her genesis story of finding the passion to create art as a child and the influence anime and manga, particular in print form, had on her as well as the impact that DeviantArt and the digital artists there had on her creative journey.
Her experience as an influencer in competitive gaming and streaming gave us a lot to talk about. Jisu recounts myriad lessons learned and best practices from those non-art sectors as they relate to cryptoart and NFTs and she also talks about how NFTs have helped give her the freedom to focus exclusively on her art far away from the pressure to become a "commodified artist" that existed in the social influencer gaming space.
Finally, we dive deep into the concept behind "The Fates," her upcoming collection on Nifty Gateway. It's at once both a deeply personal collection that represents her own lived struggles and triumphs as well as universal, since it both incorporates and also speaks to the double-edged promises and threats tied into new tech like AI.
"The Fates" by Jisu will go live on Nifty Gateway Monday, May 5th at 6:30 pm ET. You can preview the collection and set a drop alert by going HERE.

This week Matthew & Rizzle recap NFT.NYC which was overall quite enjoyable. As many others have noted, the vibes were more akin to NFT.NYC circa 2020 than 2021 or 2022 in the sense that events dialed down the glitz and gaudiness (to near zero in many cases) which allowed for the people - artists, creators, builders and collectors - to really be the stars of the show.
The best part of NFT.NYC week was definitely the pilgrimage to the MOCA Church organized by Colborn and the exceptional team he assembled at MOCA along with the Avalanche project. Matthew was lucky enough to be able to attend and shares a little bit of the magic of the weekend event held in Kingston, NY.
Although completely unrelated, the MOCA Church pilgrimage shares a lot of similarities with RIZZLEFEST - Colborn even mentioned that hidden kinship on a recent MOCA Livestream - namely, the intentional gathering of a small group of special souls outside of an urban area deep in nature which rounds out the remainder of the podcast with Rizzle talking about the low-key itinerary he has planned for everyone lucky enough to attend.

After that we dive into the latest kerfuffle with artists (and other folks) announcing their departures or breaks from the crypto ecosystem. There is a lot to unpack and a lot of nuance here, but the bottomline is too many folks jump into the space and go from 0-100 mph too quickly instead of finding the cadence of activity that works for them. Crypto is amazing in the sense there are no rules or "correct" ways to do anything - each and everyone of us makes the rules. The quicker folks grasp the power of that openness, the better their experiences will be in this space.
We wrap up talking about the need for more projects and focus on the non-speculative side of crypto (i.e. normal folks). Until we hit critical mass of normal folks jumping into crypto doing things and utilizing crypto in a way that becomes a part of their lives, politicians and anti-crypto haters will continue to lob lazy ad hominem attacks against crypto as a "tech that only scammers and speculators benefit from" at the expense of normal folks.

Early on in life Wooden caught the artistic bug inspired in part by the comic art featured in Mad Magazine, Cracked Magazine, and Garbage Pail Kids, as well as by artists like Ralph Steadman and other low-brow 1970's vintage aesthetic art. He's been creating art professionally for over 20 years and started minting his digital art in 2021.
We talk about the genesis of his "Tank Dog" and "Dobberman Stabbers" series before deep diving into the Stabbers which started out as a repeated meditation on confronting the question of life & death.
The Stabbers themselves represent Wooden's focus on pushing forward on a specific path, testing himself and revealing new layers of himself. Stylistically each Stabber is cut from the same cloth, so to speak: dogs, sometimes Tank Dogs, are portrayed in varying phases of stabbing, that are then combined and molded into various shapes and figures. In his own words, the creation of each new Stabber, representative of Wooden himself, "Is like killing the previous version of myself off to make room for the next."
Over the past five years, Stabbers have evolved into a broader canvas that allowed Wooden to re-interpret popular figures and icons in the crypto space such as pepe and Elon Musk as seen in as seen in "Feels Stabbed Man" and "Chief Dogerman Tweeter" respectively. This evolution helped unlocked the concept behind his upcoming collection "Stabber Legends" featuring re-interpretations of works by Pop Wonder (Shelter), Matt Kane (CRYPTOART MONETIZATION GENERATION), Coldie (Proof of Stake - Genesis), XCOPY (Right-click And Save As guy), and Fewocious (Moment I Fell In Love) set to drop on Nifty Gateway tomorrow April 5th at 6:30 pm ET [Link to collection page].
I hope you enjoy this Spotlight Interview, and if you vibe with Wooden and his art please check out the rest of his body of work.

The title this week says it all.
Rizzle and I kick off our weekly chat talking about the recent tweet from Cryptovoxels founder Ben Nolan where he announced he will be stepping down from his position as CEO into a "normal" dev role while he opens up the CEO position to be filled by a rotating list of potential CEOs whom, after a period of time, Ben will ultimately pick the next permanent CEO from. Well, we're inserting Rizzle into that rotation, or to be more accurate, Rizzle is tweeting himself into the rotation. Lfg!!
We round out the second half of our conversation talking about the new crypto social project Stealcam and the interest quickly growing around the 2-week old project that allows content creators to obfuscate their content (which is minted as a NFT) with an oddly attractive pixel mosaic until/unless someone "steals" it by paying a fixed price that then depixelates the NFT upon transfer to the stealing party revealing the content. The kicker is that the NFT is then automatically on sale for 10% more than previously paid + 0.001 ETH. Kind of interesting.

On this installment of the Spotlight Interview series, I had the great pleasure to speak with the German digital artist Stefan Große Halbuer.
Stefan has a drop coming up this Thursday, March 30th (2023) on Nifty Gateway [link to the collection page] so we of course discuss the three new isometric artworks featured in that collection, but we also focus on Stefan's creative genesis including the direct impact of Franco-Belgian comics like Asterix on his early artistic development and indirect influence of Japanese art & culture, in addition to discussing the series of events and influences of artists like Mad Dog Jones and Victor Mosquera that led to Stephan's genesis NFT mint back in 2021, before wrapping up talking about how Stefan likes to balance commercial work and his own personal art practice while curating a list of some amazing commercial clients like Adidas, KIA, Lufthansa, and Sony Music, among others.

Gather around the fireplace and let Rizzle and I take you on a trip down memory lane to the now infamous launch of the $B20 token back in January 2021 at the then largest metaverse event ever, Metapalooza. We talk about the token launch, original intent and technical underpinnings of the project that vaulted 20 unique Beeple 1/1s together with premium metaverse parcels and a 3lau soundscape followed by an epic crash and burn.
After recording I uncovered the links to the buyout smart contract (since the original auction page frontend is no longer working) and other links that folks may find helpful as they dig into the project themselves.

This spotlight interview is a blast from the past. Literally.
Way back on July 11th, 2021 I recorded a chat with Han, creator of CryptoCubes. The conversation starts with the genesis of the CryptoCubes project which goes back to Han's architectural studies back in his university days and branches out to discuss the curation, the metaverse and much more.
This week Rizzle and I use the recent announcement that Instagram will sunset their NFT project to take a look at the current relatively placid/borderline stagnant state of NFTland, the bright spots that continue to get brighter, and surprisingly, the early and promising moves that Starbucks is making with their NFT-powered Rewards program.

Rizzle is fresh off the plane from ETH Denver last week so we dive right into talking about the good, the bad, and the dank of ETH Denver. First off, our community is the best. Mikko Lyytenen shot Rizzle and I (plus the good folks at AsyncArt) an edition of their latest bear market-inspired work "Golden Apple of the Forest" which is just such a dope gesture. Much love Mikko.
Outside of our amazing community, we discuss the recent NFT archeology expedition I went on digging into the "Lost XCOPY NFTweets" that were minted back in late-2020/early-2021 using the Valuables tweet minting platform, the bright spots in an otherwise stagnant NFTland, Pindar Van Arman's byteGANs (again), and good vs. bad crypto incentives.

Celebrate the good shit when it happens. Over the last week Bryan Brinkman and Pindar Van Arman both released and sold out on-chain projects and they're glorious. Bryan put out an on-chain game "Cloud Poppers" and Pindar a 100% on-chain AI generated collection entitled "byteGANs." Check those projects out if you haven't yet.
On the other hand, the last week has seen the beginnings(?) of certain crop of 2021~2022 pfp projects post shitty announcements. The loudest news was probably from KRO who canceled the PROOF conference that had been scheduled for the first of this year that resulted in a proper market dump of their Moonbird pfp collection.
Rizzle and I talk about how no one really knows what they are doing when it comes to operating crypto project or communities (e.g. Moonbirds) but that some folks are just better at navigating the unknown than others (e.g. Polygon/Matic who made the hard decision preemptively reduce and consolidate headcount).

On this week's MARS episode Matthew & Rizzle start by looking back at last week's WIP that featured an illuminating, raw conversation between Godfrey Meyer aka Boomboxhead and Jin about the biggest hurdles facing the buildout of a truly open and interoperable metaverse. That is followed by talking about how bad we are at marketing and the technical issues involved with trying to get better. Somehow we find ourselves commenting on the current state of NFT land and double-edged sword of having large projects like Bored Ape Yacht Club representing NFT land for normies.
We recorded this episode live in the TokenSmart discord and because of that fielded the following questions live from the audience:
What do we think is going to be the next wave in NFT land?
Is it worth it to invest in virtual real estate?

On this week's episode of the Matthew & Rizzle Show, Rizzle updates us on his on-going saga of larping as an artist. Rizzle managed to finagle an invite into an on-going drop curated by Corpega featuring heavy hitters like Robness, Empress Trash, WGMeets, Jaen, Moxarra and many more by dropping a work titled "Frog-sileus" which is kinda dank ngl.
Then the conversation shifts to the all too commonly lamented task facing every artist and OG in the space: marketing oneself and ones work. Rizzle and I (me in particular tbh) are terrible self-promoters. For the past 4~5 years across Cent, this podcast and The WIP Meetup, we've done a ton of historic shit from featuring the who's who of crypto and NFT land across our shows to consistently putting on the biggest - and most importantly dankest - events the metaverse has ever seen. So, we're finally looking for someone to help us with our marketing and promotion efforts (i.e. we'll pay anyone who is down for the cause and culture to help us get our marketing, promotion and social media houses in order so hit us up @niftytime or @nftland on twitter if that's you).

Rizzle is back from touching grass with la familia so we spend the first half catching him up on the decade of events that transpired over the last week: namely the breakout success of a couple low-/no-cost OE mints like Jake Butcher's Checks - VV and Lucréce'sDefy - Proceed with Caution. Depending on your perspective these new projects are either the coolest new thing under the sun, or a distraction from building more innovative new products.
Luckily, no one knows what's right or wrong! And having a large number of folks that love what's currently happening and a sizable population that wants to avoid appearing to participate in "copycat games" and instead build some new-new to expand the realm of possibilities is what we need to keep growing and expanding. This is the vibe.
We chat about all that, touch on the Porsche mint and few more intriguing metaversal morsels.
Enjoy!

Happy bday Rizzle!
Yesterday was the hypemaster of the metaverse's bday, and as per tradition, crazy ass avatars gathered in Rizzle's CV apartment (originally gifted to him by Twobadour) where the Rizzle Block was born and still lives (currently hidden beneath the bar there). It's a silly tradition if you think about it, but it's our silly tradition that's been going on three years strong in CryptoVoxels.
CryptoVoxels is rich in much more metaverse history as well. Evilvoxels shared a recent tweet highlighting the value of CV parcels after the original builder passes away irl. All the builds built and designed by the late, great Alotta Money, for example, are time capsules that keep the spirit of their original designer and creator alive. CV as 'Store of History' is a powerful, powerful feature.
Matt Kane just released his new project "Etch" in collaboration with 0xdeca and it taps the same rich history of the blockchain by giving everyone the tools to annotate NFTs in a way that results in unique generative works of art. Make sure you check it out: https://deca.art/etch

Topics discussed include: the (then) upcoming mega update at Axie Inifinity, recounting the monumental growth of 2021, and all-things community like starting an early community, the three C's of community (communication, cadence and consistency), community scaling and much more.

MONAVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR EVENT FTW!!!
After a string of critique heavy episodes, Rizzle and I decided to shift focus to the more positive side of crypto: namely having fun. Crypto has always been fun, if you knew where to look, especially around the end of the year holidays.
Way back in 2019 and 2020 the NFT marketplace Mintbase threw legendary, month-long Advent Calendar events deep in the heart of CryptoVoxels. Crypto projects sponsored the event gifting tokens, art and NFTs. Amazing memories were made.
Well this year (literally tomorrow December 1st) Rizzle & Monaverse are playing this back. A month-long Advent Calendar celebration will unfold daily in Monaverse. Stay tuned for the announcement tweets from Rizzle and Monaverse.
This is part of a broader trend though that started back in 2018 and has continued until this very day: artists not giving a fuck and just doing their thing. That vibe is infectious and imho is responsible for everything fun in crypto. That's also the reason why I think that if you're not having fun you're doing crypto wrong.

RIP Cryptovoxels.
With the passing of time, it's inevitable that we'll see many crypto projects fail and fold. While projects fail for myriad reasons, in the crypto space an unfortunately increasingly common reason why crypto projects fail is from deviating too far away from their original mission & community. This is usually not an overnight phenomenon, but instead occurs as a result of a million individual small decisions that compound over time.
Luckily there are many crypto projects that are keeping it 100 with their mission & community. Projects like AsyncArt, ArtBlocks, Manifold, NG, POAP and Monaverse exemplify the ways you can create a successful crypto project: have founders that use their project, passionately; build in public; listen to the community; bias for quality over quantity.
Every decision matters though. One major mis-step can sink a community and in turn an entire crypto business. Rizzle and I chat about the response to the SuperRare RarePass their released last week and the divided response from their community and the space at large. We also discuss the slow-motion train wreck that is Cryptovoxels as an example of pretty much all the things a project can do to ensure it fails.

The mainstream media is once again (literally, for like the 400th time) jumping on the grave of crypto pronouncing it dead in the wake of the FTX/Alameda implosion and Genesis shit shows. Unlike the previous 400 times crypto died, however, the MSM seems to believe that big tech companies like Facebook, Twitter and their ilk are approaching death's front door as well in light of the recent wave of layoffs occurring at these places.
Rizzle and I chat about why journos keep getting this shit so wrong, what the metaverse is today, and what we think the future of the metaverse may and may not look like. We also revisit the spreading contagion from the CEXs and how folks can stay safe and wrap up with a preview of what folks can expect at the WIPsgiving that we'll be throwing at The WIP tomorrow at 12 pm PT.

This week Rizzle and I talked shit on the state of metaverse meetups. Most of them are boring. Straight up. We gotta figure out ways to regularly make highly engaging and more importantly FUN in-world activities. Simply jumping in-world to look around at a gallery won't cut it. And simply throwing money at the problem ~cough~ Meta ~cough~ won't work either.
We talked about the evolution of the WIP, the different challenges along the way beginning with audio problems and wrapped up talking about our attempt to focus on cracking imho THE biggest problem in the metaverse: making metaverse meetups fun.
The WIP has never been about money and isn't a business. Along the way we've morphed and jumped around different discords. Together with the growing WIP Crew, we've always approached every new decision feeling like we had nothing to lose which helps when it comes to going all-in on a certain decision or path. And with this latest challenge we're right back there with nothing to lose, all over again.

On this episode we talk about a few different things, but what are mainly talking about is the evolution of crypto communities in NFT Land since roughly around 2018 until present day: what's changed, stayed the same and where we think crypto community may end up heading forward.
I sincerely believe crypto-powered communities are fundamentally different from the communities of web2 and earlier. The tools, the immutable history, the portable and mostly interoperable naming standards most web3 projects have adopted are helping to keep communities intact and in contact with one another over time, even as original communities and their members shift attention to other projects or communities and/or after a project that served as a digital home disappears or loses appeal.
If you enjoy this episode, please share it with others.

To round out the WIP Crew Series interviews, Matthew & Rizzle chopped it up the very first videographer of the metaverse himself, Paradoxx.
We talked about how Paradoxx created a whole new category of creator: the metaverse videographer, and some seminal moments along the way from early Cent days, to working with HiveMuse, joining the WIP Crew, working on the B20 metaverse event launch party, receiving a Metapurse grant and finally joining the Monaverse team.

This week Matthew & Rizzle take a walk down WIP memory lane with WIP Crew member #1, Dragonate. Dragonate was the very first member of the WIP Crew dating back to April 2020. He emerged after one particularly trying WIP where audio issue nearly killed the show with a readymade audio solution. The rest is history.
But Dragonate's metaverse adventure began before the WIP back on Cent. Since then, however, Dragonate's presence and impact on NFT land has grown dramatically. In addition to being the audio wizard with the WIP, Dragonate is involved and supports several dozen other projects and communities - the dude is prolific.
Dragonate is one of the brightest spots in the metaverse and when you hear this episode you'll know why.

Matthew & Rizzle talk about what it's been like talking shit and recording podcasts together for the last three years. The duo cover everything from Cent days on forward to present day. Dragonate also makes a cameo towards the end.
It's good times and foreshadows what the Matthew & Rizzle show will become (again): a show focused on two friends who became full-time builders and creators in NFT land giving their (mildly) hot takes on the state of things.

This week Matthew & Rizzle spoke with Pointshark, and OG meta architect and virtual builder.
Pointshark's day job is in the IRL construction industry, so his perspective as a virtual builder is intimately informed by his real life building expertise. Pointshark talk about how he found crypto and NFT land while working construction and the community that immediately embraced him early on that propelled him to dive deeper into the metaverse until he found the small cadre of expert meta architects like Dat Ogar and the late Alotta Money who were busy building out the virtual world of Cryptovoxels.
Pointshark is one of the premier virtual builders today, but his journey is infinitely relatable and should highlight how anyone in this space can dive in and make a name for themselves.

If you're a fan of the Afties, then sit back, crack open a cold one, and get ready for a fun one. Sho starts off with a potted history up to his joining the WIP Crew before giving a spicy take of the current state of the metaverse. Sho doesn't hold back his criticism for valid reasons. The space needs to mature and the only way that will happen is if we hold it accountable. In a rare shout out though, Dragonate and Vitalik Buterin received rare praise from Sho. We hope you enjoy

This week, Matthew & Rizzle spoke with the OG crypto artist and provocateur par excellence Stellabelle (note the spelling y'all - all one word, no capital 'b' and an 'e' at the end).
Stellabelle has an epic drop of 23 works from her legendary CryptoStellas collection scheduled to go live on Nifty Gateway on Monday August 8th at 6:30 pm ET. There is A LOT of history and criticism to unpack in this collection.
At a high level, the collection can be viewed as a group of unheralded Saints vs. overplayed Sinners. Stellebelle highlights the group of builders, innovators, and artists who helped give birth to a movement that she sees being taken over and corrupted by outsider influencers who have infiltrated the gates.
Stellabelle is an absolute force. She brings a potent mix of humor an acerbic criticism to the fore in every conversation. Please enjoy.

This week Matthew & Rizzle spoke with Bryce Anderson about his latest project Omega Runner. Bryce hails from Hollywood and the movie and entertainment industry, and is pulling on all that experience with Omega Runner, a project that Bryce describes as Media3 (to differentiate it from the monolithic catch-all that web3 currently is). There is a lot of potential for content creators to leverage their creations in the crypto-space vis-a-vis the traditional media establishment that allows for more creator-control of IP and decision making and Omega Runner is a very interesting early experiment in that direction.

The boys chat with Carolina about her entrance into the web3 and NFT space, her surprise familial connection (shocked even Matthew & Rizzle), her favorite communities, and much more.

Rizzle will finally get back from Europe tomorrow just in time for the WIP (at 12 pm PT in the MEME Explorers discord), so we would like to uncork one more vintage MARS episode for everyone.
Last March, we had the good fortune of speaking with Patricio, the founder of the Proof of Attendance Protocol, otherwise known by its epic acronym POAP. POAPs have become an essential fixture for WIP attendees at every WIP over the past few years thanks to the POAP master herself Carolinaduh as well as at every respectable virtual gathering throughout the metaverse. It's almost a public good at this point.
We dove into the genesis story of the POAP protocol, Patricio's background, and his vision for where POAP may head next.

Rizzle is off in Europe doing big European NFT conference things, so this week we will share another classic episode from the MARS vault.
Two years back we spoke with Seb and Nathan about the crypto-powered virtual world called The Sandbox that they were (and still are) building. Listen back on the vision these two had for The Sandbox then and afterwards download The Sandbox client and hop in-world to see where they are at today. They've come a long way, but for sure there is still so much left to build and create as more and more users jump in-world.
Original Episode Synopsis:
"Seb and Nathan of The Sandbox, the user-generated VR game platform for the metaverse. Seb and Nathan unpack the various layers that form the platform of The Sandbox, the tokenomics of the project, the unique ways that the #PlayToEarn meme applies to LAND owners, game builders and regular players, and much, much more."
NOTE: The LAND giveaway event discussed in this episode has obviously expired (but seriously how dank is it that we gave away LAND).

This week Matthew & Rizzle spoke with Abram, co-founder of 0xSplits, builders of a public and open split protocol. While regular ETH addresses like your MM or Trust wallet address link one address to one recipient, crypto split addresses that you can create using 0xSplits link a single address to many recipients. The implications of this seemingly simple development could have far reaching implications when it comes to multi-party collaboration online, public goods funding and even irl taxes!
Abram unpacks the genesis behind 0xSplits, explains what people can do with splits today and pulls back the covers on the short-term roadmap of upcoming developments. If you have an idea or request for splits please reach out! This is a project that the community can help build alongside the team.

NFTs, and more specifically cryptoart, changed the entire life trajectory of YRDGZ beginning way back in 2019 when she joined the Editional community where she eventually made her first sale to the legendary Jake Brukhman. From there the trio discuss the blowup of the space that occurred since, her thoughts on the various marketplaces (and gaps that still remain), the golden rule of collecting and creating (i.e. buy and create what you love), and take an aggressive look into her ETH wallet to see what she has been collecting. This week Matthew & Rizzle spoke with artist and web3 dominatrix, Cryptonatrix. The trio dove into the complicated and supremely frustrating current state of sex workers in the web3 space. While the tools and tech provisioned by blockchain would appear to be a perfect fit for sex workers to use to take power back from exploitative platforms and people, unfortunately that's not the current reality. Sex workers are still facing many of the same problems they faced in web 2.0 with the added threat of being doxxed.
While no solutions appear to be close by, hopefully this conversation highlights the risks and major problems sex workers are faced with everyday so we can start identifying real, powerful, and accessible solutions.

Matthew & Rizzle spoke with Jan & David from the new NFT project MovieShots that's working on a clever way to integrate NFTs with movies. As Jan & David explain it, MovieShots will release NFTs that feature select stills of every segment of a movie separated by hard-cuts. The first movie they have acquired the global rights to apply this approach to is the 1998 hit Run Lola Run. Introducing NFTs enables keen collectors to own a slice of culture, but the metadata of the NFTs, which will include various key details and descriptors of each scene, can be used to program and create a waterfall of downstream experiences as well.

This week Matthew & Rizzle spoke with Jason, head of marketing at Bitlectro Labs (and professional magician). Of course, we touch on Jason's relationship with magic and the connection to crypto, but we also unpack some of the exciting web3 experiments that Bitlectro Labs is running at the intersection of NFT PFPs, creative commons licensed music, digital art, and gaming. Jason explains the backstory to Bitlectro Lab's first experiment called Dreamloops which are 8-bit digital art gems with their own soundtrack before unveiling their latest upcoming project called Dreamers which expands out to the PFP and gaming side of things.
Jason has some amazing energy and insights both of which are on full display in this episode. We hope you enjoy listening to our conversation with Jason as much as we did.

They are aiming to create a non-binary PFP series of 10102 avatars initially that will help power a recurring loop of metaverse events utilizing a +1 pass that TFS holders will have priority access to. Matthew & Rizzle spoke with Dave from Proof of Beauty Studios (POB) this week. At first glance, and probably second and third glances too, POB may appear complicated, and you'd be correct. There is a lot going on under the hood with this project. Dave helps clarify what the heck POB is actually doing, which is amazingly fascinating once you unpack it a little. Over the course of our conversation, Dave talks about the HASH project (hash.pob.studio) and its focus on minting historic hash transactions on the Ethereum blockchain, their latest flagship project LONDON (london.pob.studio) which is the first in a long line of event-driven minting efforts designed to draw creative energy and expression around key technological milestones associated with the Ethereum blockchain, and even teases what they are cooking up when it comes to smaller side-experiments when it comes to PUBLICO (publico.pob.studio).
This week Matthew & Rizzle speak with Denny of the Artobotics project. Originally a series of old school physical vending machines filled with ubique stamp sized art by some of the most notable living artists of the past few decades, Denny is in the early stages of trying to take Artobotics into the metaverse. If you'd like to work on turning this vjsion into a reality please feel free to reach out to Denny on twitter @artobotics
This week, Matthew & Rizzle speak with Gregg P about the SquiggleDAO he has been leading the charge on since the beginning of the year. We talk about the historical significance and promise of DAOs, the background behind the SquiggleDAO specifically, creating a community around collecting Chromie Squiggles, DAO tooling, and more!
This week Matthew & Rizzle speak with Al Morris, founder and chief architect of Koii Network, a blockchain that aims to make it easier for creators to own and earn the value of their content, permanently. We unpack the current status of Koii Network, the long-term vision of a world where creators (and the world, really) have open access to the entire corpus of shared creations and information, some special opportunities [see link below], and more. Participate in the contest we talk about in the podcast here: https://gleam.io/mLE2q/koii-x-wip
This week Matthew & Rizzle spoke with Simon Heterington, creator of the soon-to-launch Graf Giraffe Gang NFT project. GGG has the trappings of a dank pfp project - vibey animal, dope hand-drawn art - but the background behind this project is very human, and the cause supported by sales is very noble. Sales will help support disabled artists, so in a way, GGG is a sort of project-powered crypto native foundation that distributes the proceeds to the targets one would like to support. It's pretty brilliant. So please enjoy our conversation with Simon.
Welcome back to the Matthew & Rizzle Show after a one-week break. This week the boys chop it up with a long-time friend and repeat guest, Johan Unger of MarbleCards and Meme.com. Johan unpacks the background behind Meme.com and the cultural economy of meme remixing and curating it aims to foster, challenges the concept of traditional copyright in the cryptoart space, waxes poetic about cryptovoxels, shares some spicy takes and much more.
Snowfro, the founder and creator of the artblock.io generative art platform hops back onto MARS to chat with Matthew & Rizzle about the latest, crazy updates at AB, the explosion of interest in on-chain generative art recently, some prized collections, the inner workings of the curation board that is steering the direction of the curated drops on AB, and much more.
This week Matthew & Rizzle speak with the creator of Sup Ducks and NFT artist, creator, and all-around crypto veteran Frankynines. Frankynines has worked at and contributed to foundational NFT companies like KnownOrigin, Dapper Labs as well as NFT42 in addition to minting on every major NFT marketplace starting back in 2018 (the genesis year for modern NFT art). They talk about all of that, plus stumble into a sidebar about how Franky first met Jim McNelis aka j1mmy.eth (NFT42 co-founder), but the main focus of the chat centers around the "ducksplosion" that erupted when Frankynines dropped his own PFP project called Sup Ducks.

Snowfro elaborates on the independent board he has set up to help guide project creators in directions that benefit them and the collector-base. Welcome to another episode of the Cent Spotlight. The Spotlight is an interview series where I speak with one of the amazing creators on Cent. This week though, we have a special-edition of the Spotlight featuring the team behind Valuables, the app that lets users buy and sell tweets.
Full disclosure, I'm part of that team.
We soft-launched Valuables at the WIP Meetup in Cryptovoxels two weeks ago, and since then folks on Twitter have been making a steady stream of offers to buy and mint other user's original Tweets into NFTs (non-fungible tokens aka one of a kind digital artifacts). All of that probably sounds confusing.
So, the team decided to record a podcast together in order to share the background into Valuables and explain what it is, why we decided to run this particular experiment, and how we think it will help empower creators and their communities of fans.
Many will probably still have questions, so if you do please reach out to me on Twitter (@niftytime), on Cent (/matthew) or by email to matthew@cent.co.

Skygolpe is an incredibly thoughtful individual. He's passionate and profound in the same breath. To me, skygolpe is the philosopher king of cryptoart.
You'll hear me get giddy at multiple points throughout our conversation. Hopefully, you feel the same as you listen to us go deep on collaboration, discuss the themes and concepts that undergird his creative projects, and the influence of words, writing, and philosophy on his approach to art.
I hope you enjoy this conversation, and after you finish listening to it, please go seed Skypgolpe on Cent (there he uses the username /msart).

Rizzle and I had a blast recording this special interview with (nearly) the whole Terra Virtua squad. We had co-founder & CTO Jawad, CSO Jeff, and growth associate Franky on the show and we really chopped it up.
Terra Virtua has been around for a few years now and it's incredible they've managed to keep what they've been building under wraps for as long as they have.
Not only does Terra Virtua have an art & collectibles marketplace selling items incorporating some of the most legendary cinematic figures of our times, but they're building out a suite of metaverse facing tools and experiences.
We talk about the origin and evolution of Terra Virtua, all the different ways users can experience the app, a typical user flow, plans for increased interoperability, the Terra Dome, Fan Caves, and a super special release that will be announced during the live listening party on 2020 November 11 in the TokenSmart discord.
Welcome to another episode of the Spotlight. The Spotlight is an interview series where I speak with one of the amazing creators in the creator crypto space.
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with crypto artist Kitty Bast for this week's Spotlight.
My conversation with Kitty was illuminating. We dove into her creative journey, which according to her earliest memory, began by drawing a certain scarecrow over and over in front of her dad. From there we wade into deeper waters discussing her relationship with different types of canvases or "bodies" as she sees them. That conversation flows right into the topic of tattooing, a prominent feature of Kitty's art. Amazingly, we also have time to sip on heady topics and concepts like individuality vs. collectivism, her digital tattoo collaboration series, and how Kitty thinks about Collector Experience (CX).
This was an extremely fun podcast to record and you'll hear laughs from both Kitty and me throughout.
Check out the Cent post [HERE] and seed Kitty. Remember, seeding is a way to subscribe to a creator's community and creations.
On this episode of the MARS podcast, Matthew & Rizzle speak with ARK Gallery founder and CEO Robi C. ARK Gallery made a big splash a couple of months back when they introduced their smart contract that allowed folks to wrap CryptoPunks and turn them into ERC-721 tokens to facilitate easier trading on various NFT marketplaces. But ARK Gallery has designs on becoming a lab that will run many more crypto experiments.
Topics discussed include Robi's career as a fine art dealer and gallerist in Asia, his experience selling pre-NFT digital art for $50,000+, the next project that ARK is developing focused on matching buyers of specific NFTs to sellers, and an early conversation on "community ownership." Having been in the crypto space for as long as I have, I've seen and heard a lot of crazy amazing ideas. So it's not every day that I come across a concept that really makes my mind explode. Well, I'm really happy to say that the conversation I had with /rizzle and Vii, CTO of the /Lendroid, last week was one of those mind-expanding moments. I'm still tripping off of what we talked about. Over the course of our chat, we cover the origin of the Lendroid project and how it was carving out a niche for itself in the DeFi space before the word DeFi even existed by trying to completely reimagine the financial system and create new financial engines to provide access to human-centered solutions that regular people can benefit from. But Lendroid wants to take things a step further by putting the rights to their work totally back into the artist's control. Artists can create tokens that are linked to a specific NFT artwork that, for example, grants print right access to the image of the token to facilitate licensing arrangements. Through Lendroid's Rightshare framework artists can create cash flow tokens linked to future sales and royalty payments of their work as well as earned interest tokens that are tradable on the market from day one. They also created the concept of encumbered tokens that artists can use to trustlessly collateralize their artworks in exchange for a loan. Lendroid Links: Website: lendroid.com/blog

We discuss Matty's relationship to DCL primarily as an investor in digital land and talk about how his role has expanded to include significant community initiatives organizing in-world conferences and games like the latest Moonshot World Cup Tournament. Other topics touched on include the impact of whales on the NFT space, how the space can get to 100k users let alone 1 million users, the difficulty of explaining the NFT and blockchain-based VR worlds to "normal people." And lastly, tweet this episode out with a personalized appeal for others to listen in for a chance to win some $WHALE.
The featured creator on this week's Cent Spotlight is the digital artist /Paola. I've long been an admirer of Paola and her work, so it was really cool to get a peek into her creative journey and find out, for example, how Barbie dolls and fashion magazines have influenced her digital work today. Equally fascinating was discovering the pivotal role /dowdy played in onboarding Paola to crypto art and Cent. Throughout our discussion, we also touch on what it's like for a creator to sell and price their work, as well as the resurgence of pixel art with the appearance of the NFT minting platform PixelChain.
I am so happy to share the latest Spotlight interview I carried out with VHS Artist /TheSarahShow, aka Sarah Zucker, with all of you. Sarah is a multi-talented artist who has traversed a fascinating creative journey. We dive into formative moments along her creative journey including a hilarious incident that occurred while Sarah was in 6th grade involving a gif of The Great Cornholio, a passion for photography and Lemography, and her move to LA. We dive deep into her process of conceptualizing a piece that ultimately will get put up to sale. Lastly, we wrap up on the rare digital art market and some interesting strategies that collectors and artists alike won't want to miss.
/j1mmy hopped back onto the YDAD podcast to talk with /rizzle and /matthew to announce the brand new NFT project, InfiNFT. The trio dive into the weeds of InfiNFT starting with a lesson on pronunciation, before going over the technical details of how creators will be able to mint NFTs in a way that keeps all metadata onchain (on thr Arweave blockchain to be specific) and the epic list of initial artists that will be minting new work at launch. After that, Jimmy shares all the other developments going on over at NFT42, including /Avastars and TokenSmart.
Hey everyone. /matthew is back with another Cent Spotlight. This week he spoke with animator Bryan Brinkman. The two discussed Bryan's rich and varied creative journey starting out working for an NYC advertising firm before transitioning to jobs at HBO, MTV, and most recently the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and SNL before veering off to talk about topics such as: art, value & perception, the future of rare digital art, different auction styles on SuperRare, and making posts on Cent that reveal the intricate process behind his recent works of crypto art. During the deep conversion Josie, Async.Art, Nifty Gateway, SuperRare, Matt Kane, and many others were mentioned.
Hey everybody! Matthew here. Rizzle and I had the chance to speak with James Waugh recently. James is the "lead" organizer of the RareAF (Rare Art Festival). Lead is in air quotes because, as anyone familiar with RareAF knows, the whole venture is organized around an ethos of decentralization. Nevertheless, James has been leading the charge in organizing the virtual version of RareAF, which is set to take place next week from May 14~17 in the NFT-based VR world known as Cryptovoxels. James talked about the origins of RareAF, some of the fantastic events, and 50+ speakers on deck, plus all the fun challenges associated with shifting an irl event into a virtual setting.
We are back with an exclusive interview with Connie Digital (who goes by /connie on Cent). @rizzle and I cover a lot of ground on this episode from Connie's infamous ability to be early to seemingly every burgeoning new scene, to plans that could see increased output from Connie in music and songwriting, his perspective on the state of blockchain-based VR projects like DecentralLand and Cryptovoxels, and we wrap up by reflecting on our meetup during NFT.NYC. Make sure you listen to the end for a very special and limited-time $HUE related announcement from Connie.
This week, /matthew and /rizzle speak with Seb and Nathan of The Sandbox, the user-generated VR game platform for the metaverse. Seb and Nathan unpack the various layers that form the platform of The Sandbox, the tokenomics of the project, the unique ways that the #PlayToEarn meme applies to LAND owners, game builders and regular players, and much, much more. Listeners of the YDAD podcast can win a piece of LAND in The Sandbox by tweeting out this episode and tagging @thesandboxgame, @bread_krumbs, and @nftland. The individual whose tweet gets the most re-tweets by May 1st at 1159pm anywhere on earth will win the LAND.
This week @rizzle and I sat down to chat with Drew Harding, co-founder and robot at The MetaFactory. If you are on crypto Twitter or are familiar with MetaCartel, you should have at least heard of The MetaFactory. MF is an auction platform for community owned brands and custom digi-physical apparel. In other words, it's the future. Drew talked about the origin story of MF, where it's heading, how artists like Twisted Vacancy, Alotta Money, Skeenee, Vans Design and more are starting their own community owned brands, as well as his views on the Metaverse. This is an extremely interesting project, and one you can actually invest in today if you are one of the top 42 investors in their initial Genesis Auction which is going on right now.
Every creator Spotlight I record is special. But this week's is really unique. While the Spotlight this week is focused on the artist duo known as @Hackatao, my conversation was with the art curator Eleonora Brizi who doubles as Hackatao's authorized spokesperson. Eleonora has solid art world bonafides having started off in the traditional art working for the renowned Ai Weiwei as his assistant. She explained the role of art curators quite eloquently: To walk along the same path with an artist, speak for them while they create, and be their voices to explain their work for the world. Art curators are essentially translators. And over the course of our conversation, Eleonora translated the significance, process, and intent behind the amazing art of Hackatao.
This week Rizzle and Matthew speak with Caty Tedman, head of partnerships & marketing at Dapper Labs. Caty and Dapper Labs are in the process of building NBA Top Shot, a blockchain-based app that will allow fans to buy, sell, own and trade their favorite NBA plays and may end up becoming the first blockchain project to achieve mainstream breakout success. We talk about Caty's untraditional path to working at a tech startup like Dapper Labs which started with her working first at ESPN and then at the NHL and NFL, how Dapper Labs and Caty are aiming to bring the power of the Blockchain to the masses through projects like NBA Top Shot, her plans to accrue the largest collection of Serge Ibaka moments in the game and more.
The featured artist on this week's Cent Spotlight is @artbymitrai also known as Indrani. Indrani has been one of the most active creators on Cent recently. We discussed all of the work she has been creating thanks to Covid-19, her creative journey from physical art and watercolors to digital art, how she creates nearly all of her work on her smartphone, and we discuss all of the artists (and I mean all of them) that Indrani would like to collaborate with.

The two unpack that aspect of his creative journey and look ahead towards what's next for Swan and his art.

We covered Rarible's long-term ambitions to become a marketplace of marketplaces, touched on potential decentralized solutions to the copyright issues that have been flagged by others and dug into the popular 'Unlock' feature that Rarible introduced.
I'm excited to share my recent talk with Osinachi, a one-of-a-kind artist who is sharing compelling visual stories using checks notes Microsoft Word. Osinachi called in from his flat tucked alongside a bustling thoroughfare in Enugu State, Nigeria. He shared his creative journey from writing to discovering how to draw figures in Microsoft word and the process of finding his unique voice as an artist. We were lucky to have the chance to listen to @conlan himself give us a presentation explaining Async.Art top to bottom: from an overview of the crypto art landscape, to what Async Art does, and how it works (including fee & royalty model). We hope our convo will help folks ubderstand just how innovative Async.Art is.
This week's Cent Spotlight is on the digital artist Matt Kane. Matt is on the cutting edge of crypto art both from a technical perspective (he literally coded the programs he uses to create his one of a kind digital works of art) as well as being one of the space's most profound thinkers. We dive into Matt's background as a traditional artist, what motives him creatively, his unique relationship with his collectors, and how he creates databases of his art so that future artists can reinterpret them. This week's episode features digital artist @SphericalArt aka Paul Peterson. Paul joined Cent just a month or so ago, but he made an immediate impact on me with his thoughtfulness and eye-catching work. As his handle implies, Paul is a master of sphere-based digital art. What isn't implied is his decades of experience as a digital artist, storyboard artist, medical illustrator/animator, and 3D product visualizer who just found out about blockchain-based rare digital art. Anyone active in digital art or curious how to get started will find a ton of value in this episode where Paul shares his creative journey along with all the tools and processes he employs to make his fantastic creations. Jim McNelis aka @j1immy aka DappWizard is well known for doing an immense amount of work to shore up the NFT space for centuries and centuries to come. He's the creator of Avastars, the new on-chain metadata project trying to find a solution to ensure digital collectibles and art remain viewable forever. @rizzle and @matthew had an extemely entertaining chat with Jim about Avastars in addition to digital identity and his mis-understood love for crypto art. Each artists' backgrounds are like a creative fingerprint, every one is unique. Diving into those individual stories is a huge part of why I love recording these Spotlight episodes. Case in point, my guest this week: @MicahJohnson. Micah is a former major league baseball player turned artist who recently fell head first into the crypto art space. I'm extremely excited to share our conversation, which I've broken up into two parts. In this first part I ask Micah to share his background, creative style, thoughts and impressions on crypto art and insights into how the worlds of sports and art are more closely related than they might appear.
Silhouettes are stories. Real, profound stories. When I first came across @dowdy and his work, I was struck by how much his silhouette heavy art seemed to say to me. We spoke about his evolution from silhouettes to focusing on POC in his work, what it's like being a new crypto artist on the scene, theories on pricing one's art, what quality art is, and more. As a collector and fan, I was looking forward to speaking with Dowdy for a while. I hope you enjoy listening to is as much as I did recording.
The buidl is strong with @KnownOriginio (KO) yall. Based on my chats with artists in the space and after talking with most of the platforms, I can say that there is a special excitement and energy surrounding KO that's quite unique. Last week @rizzle and I had a really candid chat with James Morgan, co-founder of KO, about insanely exciting topics like how to achieve mass NFT adoption, v.2 of the @DAOSaka Crypto Art DAO, their work on creating an NFT lending & rental smart contract and more.

Please enjoy this week's Cent Spotlight.
The non-fungible token space is going through a massive period of growth and experimentation. When it comes to leading the way for that change, the growing number of platforms are out in front. This week @matthew and @rizzle had the chance to interview both Nate Geier & Caroline Wend from the NFT minting & selling platform Mintbase. Not all platforms are created equal, and Nate walks us through the importance of Verified Contracts when it comes to NFT minting solutions, the current limitations of storing all NFT image metadata on distributed file sharing solutions like IPFS (and skepticism of companies claiming they rely entirely on it), as well as their plans to form a Minters DAO to help shepherd in a new era of community hosted and stored data. This episode may seem a little more technical than usual, but that's because Nate, in particular, tried to give as much detail as possible to clarify the current state of the NFT space and its infrastructure.

If you've been following Cent or crypto Twitter recently you'll recognize that MarbleCards is in the middle of a controversy concerning digital art, IP rights and crypto tokenization. While this episode may not change your mind, I'm sure you'll walk away with a much more nuanced understanding of the project and team behind it.
We talk about the origin story of MarbleCards, the gamified Marble.Cards Arena, how new sites get whitelisted for marbling, what happens when sites/artists don't want their content to be marbled, the value proposition of Marblecards and more.

Sid is a super sharp thinker and he gave us a very candid glimpse into how he is thinking about TryRoll today and heading into the future.
On this week's show, @rizzle and I dive into the recent controversy surrounding the fake digital art that made its way from the now blacklisted Editional app to OpenSea. [Note: we recorded this episode before it was clear how the blacklisting of Editional art would actually be implemented by the various sites, including OpenSea].
That discussion led to talk on crypto KYC, blockchain-based identity solutions, fraud prevention solutions on the part of NFT marketplaces, potential IP-related issues concerning digital art and an attempt on my part at clarifying what @connie meant in his recent headline post entitled Artists who tokenize on their own personal verified smart contract can always prove authenticity.
Of course, throughout our chat, we shouted out numerous Centians who are sharing great work on Cent.
On this episode, @matthew & @rizzle spend a nice chunk of time talking about the Cent product focusing specifically on potential updates for bounties on Cent and changes for sorting. After that, they cover all of the amazing collaborations that are springing up within crypto on Cent, CryptoVoxels and other places between artists like @mlibty, @BlackBoxDotArt, fans and projects like Mintbase.
On this week’s Cent Spotlight, @matthew was joined by a really special person. They're probably one of the most positive presences on Cent.
Originally they were an encaustic artist, but they're an all-around pioneering creator and an intrepid digital explorer. It's incredible that they only recently started dabbling in digital art. Their work is truly enrapturing. It's intensely intricate, extremely delicate, and visually stunning.

There have been several stellar recent additions to Cent that have hit the ground running from their very first posts.
@goldkey is one of those people. I had the pleasure of synching with @goldkey the other day to talk about how he honed his graphic design and gif making skills.
Turns out the man hadn't made any motion graphic gifs until after he joined Cent. He was simply inspired by the amazing community here on Cent.
The chat I had with @goldkey left me inspired, and I know it'll leave you all inspired too.
@rizzle and I kick the episode off talking about the super thought provoking post from @slunk entitled 'Forever alone in crypto'.
