‘MAKE-A-WISH IRELAND’ LAUNCHES WISH WEEK 2024 TO GRANT MORE WISHES TO CHILDREN WITH LIFE-THREATENING ILLNESSES
- Make-A-Wish® Ireland, the children’s charity, are running its annual fundraising initiative, Wish Week, to raise awareness and crucial funds to fulfil the heartfelt wishes of children across Ireland battling life-threatening illnesses.
- According to new research, it is estimated that every week 13 children in Ireland are diagnosed with a critical illness that makes them eligible for a wish.
- This means 652 children who are newly diagnosed with a critical illness each year.
- Make-A-Wish Ireland reach just 30% of those newly diagnosed children. Last year the charity granted 196 wishes in Ireland. Make-A-Wish Ireland receives no government funding, this is why ‘Wish Week’ is so important.
- This year, Wish Day, the annual donation day for the charity, is taking place this Friday, 26th April and Make-A-Wish volunteers will be on the streets and in Dunnes Stores around the country look for support.
Louise on The Hub iRadio chatted to Mum Siobhan from Co. Westmeath. Her daughter Alice has a congenital heart condition and is 7years old. A few months ago, Alice had her wish, to be a princess, granted by Make-A-Wish.

- However, 1 in 5 men surveyed under 45 agreed with the statement:
- "I'd probably keep going even if I suspect my partner is not enjoying a sexual encounter".

- "I think people know that that's not consent, and there's something in that person that's making them keep going.

If you use TikTok, you will likely already know the name Eric Roberts very well. One of Ireland’s most followed male influencers, Eric has found huge success this year since, after stepping away from his job as a special needs assistant to pursue content creation full-time.
Eric has had an amazing year of firsts, but today he can finally break his silence on participating in Netflix’s new reality series with a multi-million jackpot: ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’.
Hype has been building online and in Irish press over the last week about Eric’s role in the Netflix reality series, after Goss.ie broke the news last week, due to spotting the Irish social star in the Netflix released trailer.
'Squid Games: The Challenge' is tipped to be the biggest reality show of all time. With nearly 5 million dollars on the line, Eric and the other 455 contestants will be pushed to their limits.
The show was filmed in January 2023 in London and Netflix spared no expense with mind-blowing sets and a totally immersive experience. 456 people from all around the world, all hoping to make it past the first game.
Game one was the famous red light green light challenge, where half of the total contestants will immediately be knocked out. Eric proudly represents Ireland and his hometown of Donegal, as he competes against the rest of the world. Due to agreements with Netflix, Eric had to keep his involvement a secret all year, telling only some close friends and family. With a loyal following online of over 800,000, Eric knew the word would spread fast if the news broke.

A Resilient Comeback“Burn” is not just a song; it’s a rallying cry from an artist who has experienced both the heights of success and the depths of frustration. Tom Walker’s career has been marked by achievements like a Number One album, a 2019 Brit Award, and the international hit “Leave A Light On.” However, the road to “Burn” was far from smooth. After experiencing immense pressure, criticism from his record label, and feelings of exhaustion, Tom contemplated giving up on music altogether.
In his own words, “I had just done seven days of rehearsal in a row, straight into a UK tour, then into 2 weeks of writing, worked my arse off every hour, of every day for months. When the powers that be came back having a dig at the songs I’d poured my heart and my soul into, I absolutely lost it.” It’s evident that “Burn” is a reflection of his frustration, with lyrics that reveal his inner turmoil and determination.
A Rekindled PassionTom Walker didn’t give up. He headed to Los Angeles to collaborate with talented musicians like the McDonough brothers, Ryan Daly & Castle. This journey helped him rediscover his passion for music and the excitement of trying new things. The result is “Burn,” a song that showcases his songwriting skills accompanied by dynamic production, propulsive rhythm, and vivid soundscapes.
“Burn” at Its CoreIn “Burn,” Tom Walker’s emotions are laid bare. He sings, “I gave you my blood, my sweat, my tears / And all you ever did was leave me here / Set me on fire cause you love the hurt,” with intensity and a hint of defiance. The urgent, hammering beats and a towering chorus make it clear that he’s been pushed to his limit. Interestingly, this song, born from a low point in his relationship with the record label, is the very track that the label demanded as his comeback single.

Her son Shane died at the age of 17 in January 2022.

Louise Clark on The Hub iRadio introduced Fionnuala Corbett, Head of News at iRadio who recently caught up with 16 year old actress, Niamh Moriarty to chat about her upcoming starring role in a BBC drama alongside Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen.
The drama is called 'Best Interests' and Niamh says she is on a mission to spread inclusivity for disabled actors.
The Irish teenager set to star opposite Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters), Michael Sheen (The Queen) and Alison Oliver (Conversations with Friends) in upcoming four-part BBC One series Best Interests written by BAFTA Award-winning writer Jack Thorne (Wonder, Help, The Swimmers, Enola Holmes). Niamh Moriarty from Dublin is just 16 years old and already has an impressive number of stage and screen credits to her name, with the latest being her turn as ‘Marnie’ in Thorne’s nuanced legal drama which centres around a family driven apart by having to make choices no parent would ever want to make.
Couple Andrew (Sheen) and Nicci (Horgan) have two daughters, Katie (Oliver) and Marnie, who has a life-threatening condition. The doctors believe it is in Marnie’s best interests to be allowed to die, arguing that she is in pain and the treatments are becoming too invasive - but her loving family disagree. T
he series is one example of the complex issues that are faced by the disabled community and shining a light on such matters is something that Niamh holds close to her heart. As well as being an incredibly talented young actor, training at Take2 Performing Arts School in Dublin since 2016, Niamh is passionate about advocating for on-screen diversity and disability inclusion. Niamh was diagnosed with a form of Cerebral Palsy in her legs called Spastic Diplegia aged three and uses a wheelchair. Niamh’s goal is to encourage disabled actors who may feel they do not fit in the industry and hopes to change this narrative through her work. Niamh also wants to encourage a disabled audience, young and old, to be the change they want to see.
Currently a Transition Year student, Niamh has a bubbly personality and love for performing, with an amazing versatility as an actor. She previously played ‘Tiny Tim’ in the Gate Theatre’s 2019 10-week run production of A Christmas Carol, scripted by Jack Thorne and directed by Selina Cartmell, and recently appeared in Toy Show The Musical, January 2023. Niamh voiced characters in Riverdance: The Animated Adventure (2021) on Netflix and played ‘Ellis’ in the 2019 short film My Mother’s Shoes.
Niamh’s next role will be as ‘Daisy’ in Amazon’s young adult fantasy feature-length film Silver, based on the popular novel series of the same name by Kerstin Gier.

This week Clodagh and Louise took a look at some of their favourite cleansers that don’t have to break the bank.
Why should we cleanse and how often?
Clodagh and Louise spoke about the reasons why we need to cleanse. To remove dirt, oil and dead skin off our faces – ideally without damaging or irritating our skin. It’s important to cleanse every evening but also every morning too and Clodagh explained how to double cleanse – using an oil-based and water based cleanser, which will leave your skin feeling fresh.
Top Tip: Most people don’t work the product into their skin for long enough and tend to wash the product down the sink before it’s had a chance to do its work.
Louise explained how she uses a balm cleanser to help remove makeup and tough to remove makeup products such as eyeliner and followed that with a gentle cleanser that can help remove any SPF products and leave your skin hydrated. Failing to remove SPF off your face properly will leave your skin feeling blotchy or leave it exposed to breaking out. You’ve been warned!
Use clean towels and avoid face wipesWe have seen on various TikToks how ineffective facewipes are (as well as being bad for the planet). Keeping clean face towels will mean your get the most out of your cleansers and you can chuck them into a hot wash when they get dirty.
Cleansers We Love
CeraVe Foaming Cleanser Normal to Oily Skin comes recommended by Clodagh as it strips her face of excessive oils but leaves her skin feeling hydrated and you get your money’s worth as a bottle comes in under a tenner! This product has been developed with Dermatologists and is fragrance free and gentle on the skin.
Other cleansers which Clodagh recommended are Neutrogena Oil-Free Ache Wash, which is textured like a gel – cool and refreshing on your face and The Congestion duo from The Ordinary tackles oil and dirt build up in your pores and cleans them out.
La Roche-Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser comes highly recommended by skin doctors on TikTok and contains Vitamin E and is recommended for use in the morning.
For those with deeper pockets, check out Image Skincare Ormedic Balancing Facial Cleanser which contains good quality ingredients and treats fine lines, fade sun damage and controls ache.

Christmas 2022 is well underway and if you're looking to visit a Christmas market in Galway, Belfast, or further afield, travel Journal Melanie May has some cracking recommendations
Louise Clarke from iRadio's The Hub spoke to Melanie about the Galway Christmas Market which is held in Eyre Square and will be running until the 22nd of December. Highlights include visitor favorites such as the Ferris wheel and the festive games stands are back, with gift kiosks dotted around the square for eager shoppers.
Up north, The Belfast Christmas Market will be kicking off this Saturday. It returns to City Hall Gardens, bringing with it a traditional taste of Christmas.
According to the Christmas market website, this year the food court at the Market with bench-style seating makes a welcome return, as does the vintage Helter Skelter, offering stunning views right across the market, and the much-loved carousel.
If you're planning to travel further afield, Melanie also recommended the Christmas Markets in Germany and Denmark and Hyde Park in London.

Twenty-two finalists from all over Ireland competed for the coveted crown and a chance to represent Ireland at the international final later this year in Manila, Philippines. In the end, 18-year-old Alannah wowed the judges and took home the title. As part of her prize, she receives an all-expenses paid trip to MANILA - Philippines to compete for the Miss Earth crown against finalists from over 80 countries worldwide.

In September 2022, Ger Duffy will travel to Nepal in South Asia where he will trek to Mount Everest Base Camp (17,598ft) and from there attempt to summit the 20,305ft Himalayan mountain, Island Peak. His goal is to raise a Euro for every foot I climb - so that's €20,305 in total!100% of the money raised will be split between two very deserving charities in The Irish Cancer Society and Mayo SPCA. The expedition will take approximately 23 days to complete. Research carried out by Meat and Dairy Facts has revealed that almost two thirds of Irish women don’t know where to find advice on their dietary requirements. The recent survey of 1,000 women by iReach insights was carried out to uncover insights into the accessibility of accurate dietary advice for Irish women.
The research comes in light of Meat and Dairy Facts efforts to provide trustworthy and accessible information to Irish women of all ages and life stages on their dietary requirements.
Key research findings include:
- One third (33%) of Irish women aged 20-24 (21% of all women surveyed) believe that women and men have the same dietary requirements.
- 89% of 20–24-year-olds don’t know where to find advice on women’s dietary requirements, versus 45% of those aged 50-54.
- 61% of Irish women don’t know where to find advice on women’s dietary requirements.
- 85% of women aged 50-54 (67% of all women surveyed) who know where to find dietary advice seek information online.

He’s doing 100 pulls up a day for 100 days.
He has 24 days left before the fundraiser finishes, and he’s raised over 5,600 euro so far.
