The Woodsman's Podcast discusses bushcraft, hunting, harvesting, foraging &fishing. This is a monthly podcast about being a woodsman in New England hosted by New Hampshire native Ed Butler (Working Class Woodsman on YouTube) and joined by his friend Max Ledoux. Ed is a skilled woodsman with a lifetime of knowledge from being in the woods.
Is it still hunting (as opposed to shooting) if you use a drone to find game? Is it ethical? Is it legal? (The answer to that last, at least in New Hampshire, is no.) This is the topic of conversation in this mini episode, filmed on location, between Ed and Max, with Brian returning to the podcast to lend his thoughts as well. April is here and that means salmon season. Max and Ed talk about the opening day on Lake Winnipesaukee. Another topic is the abundance of coyotes and a horrifying experience an acquaintance of Ed’s went through involving coyotes and her dog. By the way, do you say “Kai-Yo-Tee” or “Kai-Oat”? Let us know in the comments.
Ed also explains how modern tree stands came out about, and Max shows his new Spyderco Tenacious, which forces him to admit something about the Spyderco that Ed gave him a few years back.

It’s the first podcast of 2019 and Ed’s focused on ice fishing, even though the ice on New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee isn’t quite thick enough yet to be out on, especially not with any equipment. Still some of the smaller lakes are solid enough and plenty of fishermen are out there. Max has an update on oak trees to follow up on last month’s discussion of the lack of acorns (a major foor source for deer) in the woods this year and why that is.

What fish are native or indigenous to New Hampshire? Specifically, Lake Winnipesaukee. Well, it’s your lucky day because Ed (the Working Class Woodsman on YouTube) has the answers. He also lets Max know about the deal with the eel, particularly American Eels that make their way from Lake Winnipesaukee to the Atlantic Ocean and into the Sea of Sargasso in order to breed. This fresh water to salt water voyage makes them catadromous fish, the opposite of, for instance, salmon, which go from salt water to fresh water to spawn, and are therefore anadromous. Also why are cusk called lawyer fish?
