After being released and returning to South Africa Monique, sold her business and formed a charitable trust and in 2002, Matla A Bana, a non-profit-organisation assisting abused children, was founded. Monique is the recipient of the numerous awards and nominations including Greatest Women of the Century by the American Biographical Institute and after hearing her story it’s easy to see why.

Crazy for Walking is an initiative that aims to de-stigmatize Mental Illness and promotes mental wellness. The initiative kicked off in 2017 with a CRAZY 1500km walk from Pretoria to Cape Town. At many of the towns along the route, we had expert speakers present public talks and presentations about mental illness. These talks increased awareness of mental illness and shared some insights into how to cope with- and manage- mental health. The five-week walk culminated with an official arrival in Cape Town on 10 October – World Mental Health Day. The entire campaign was sponsored by a group of key private Psychiatric hospitals within the National Hospital Network (NHN) group.
