Today’s episode is a recording of last month’s virtual TREC Talks event with DART CEO Gary Thomas about all of the transportation projects going on throughout the city. He also talked about how DART has handled the COVID-19 pandemic and answered questions from TREC members who attended the event.

Thomas became DART CEO in 2002 after 19 years as a consulting engineer and has overseen the 700-square-mile transit system that stretches across 13 cities throughout the metroplex.

Since Thomas joined DART, the transit agency has developed the nation’s longest light rail system at 93 miles and was recognized for adopting a clean fuels program for its bus fleet while it also upgraded its transit and customer communication services.

On this episode, we chat with Grant Thornton's David Meyer and Rina Parikh about the impact of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic on taxes, filings, and other areas of accounting.

UPDATE Since this TRECast was recorded the IRS has granted some additional relief. Many of the items noted on the TRECast as not covered by the automatic extension of the April 15 deadline to July 15 have since been added by the IRS in Notice 2020-23. There was also a concern raised on the TRECast that some in the real estate industry might be interested in revisiting their “real estate trade or business election” under the Sec 163(j) interest disallowance rules in light of some CARES Act changes. The IRS has provided that opportunity in Notice 2020-22.”
