Black Dawgs

This is the first MSU podcast with an all Black crew. Don't get it confused though, we're still regular Bulldog fans. We'll be covering Mississippi State football, baseball, men and women's basketball or really anything MSU related. We're based on the Black Dawgs Matter facebook group and we have former MSU athletes in the group and we do have them on for interviews!

In this episode I try to get over my lack of enthusiasm for the football season and MSU athletics in general. Derrick tries to convince me that the team will make a run and that Mike Leach was hired for more than just bringing national attention to MSU via quirky statements. He also tries to convince me that Will Rogers is "the guy" and not a facade created through the Air Raid system and state padding. We also speak on Bulldogs in the Pros and give predictions on all the SEC games and MSU's season.

Today we cover all things Super Bulldog Weekend. The spring game (which the guys couldn't agree if it was promising or dooming). The baseball series that where TSUN lost two game but had a great time and apparently won on aggregate. Then last but not least the addition of Garrison Brooks and DJ Jefferies to the men's basketball team. However, the question is...does it matter that we added them with Howland as our coach.

We also have a very long discussion about if our baseball team can win a natty or even compete with elite teams with scrawny 195 lb caucasian players?

Or is the problem something between the ears of the players themselves. On the men's side they seem to be able to compete with anyone but can't actually beat them.

Whether it's football, men's basketball or women's basketball we're not very good and we want answers. The women's team has been somewhat shaky all year and after blowing a lead to Kentucky, trying to blow a lead to Ole Miss, blowing another lead against Alabama and then getting blown out against TAMU what can we do to right the ship going into an ominous game against South Carolina next week.

Meanwhile the men's team does things like lose to Kentucky who is awful then beat Top 15 Missouri, get a good win against Florida and then gets blown out by Ole Miss.

We're not going to traumatize you by recapping the football season BUT at least we're not Tennessee.

We're fairly certain nobody is paying attention to the season anymore but that's okay because we are! We start off talking about the transfer...err...opt-out of Marcus Murphy and is this indicative of some bigger problem within the program. We then ask what the draft prospects are like for Kylin Hill and if we'd want him on our favorite NFL team. Of course we do our picks for the week (Apparently there was 3-way tie last week). There was another topic but everybody's checked out on this season anyway so let us know when you figure out what it is. 😭

Who knows! However, you can bet your bottom dollar it's going to be fun listening to us debate it!

Join us in celebrating and/or lamenting the firing of Joe Moorhead as the head coach of the MSU Bulldogs. We've either made MSU great or again or Rick Ray'd ourselves. Of course you can count on us having a robust discussion on which one it is. We're joined by a special guest who "serves up" some MSU news.

Today we start off with the big news about a now-confirmed fight between QB Garrett Shrader and LB Willie Gay. (Unfortunately this was recorded before we knew he's miss the bowl game). When then talk about the men's basketball team's loss to New Mexico State this past sunday and Rickea Jackson finally getting it going with the girl's team. We also preview the Music City Bowl between ourselves and Louisville who we've own in just about every sport ever for the last few years. We'll finish off with a very tongue in cheek response to the black eye situation from Garrett Shrader (not really) in the outro.

Today we got a chance to catch up with former MSU defensive lineman Quinton Wesley. We all know about the circumstances in which he left the program so we didn't cover that. However, we did speak to him about how that incident shaped him into the man that he is today. He also talks about the relationship he's built with the current MSU coaching staff. Plus, He also tells us what we have in MSU commit Jo'Quavious Marks and why he believe Joe Moorhead will succeed at MSU. You're not gonna wanna miss this!!!

Today we'll be recapping our signees for the early signing period this past Tuesday. You guys may not know a lot about them but we put two our best guys on it (Jeremiah and Derrick). They'll break down the job Moorhead has done on the recruiting trail with OM bringing in a "perceived" great recruiter. They're going to point out the guys who they think will make an impact. Plus, let you know how the recruiting class stacks up overall in reaching our goal of an SEC championship.

This episode is brought to you by Kohler toilets, Ozarka water, and Coca-Cola. The guys start off giving their thoughts on Thursday's Egg Bowl. Then we discuss our prospects for a bowl game and if Joe Moorhead will be sticking around. KT made an appearance in the game which gets us to speculating if he was actually hurt or was hurt at any point in the season. Why stop there with the speculation? Could KT compete for the job and possibly win or will is Shrader entrenched in the job and KT will transfer? The guys also will give their thoughts on the "piss and miss" where Ole Miss receiver did the most Ole Miss thing ever and got a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty after scoring a touchdown. Which was tacked on to the Pee-A-T which their kicker promptly miss. Somewhere along the line a discussion about if our women's basketball team is a Final Four team.

In today's episode we start off debating if a blowout loss in the #EggBowl would spell the end for Joe Moorhead in Starkville. Then we talk some Hail State Hoops with the men's team's performance in the Myrtle Beach Invitational (spoiler we don't care) and my adventures watching the women's teams in person at Jackson State; along with the Marquette game. Derrick then updates us on the Bulldogs in the NFL before we preview the Egg Bowl. Which we all reached a general consensus on. AJ then discusses being an MSU grad (something some others on the podcast can't say) attending TSUN as a graduate student. The show should be good bit of fun!!!

We start off by discussing how the injury to Alabama QB  Tua Tagovailoa will impact the 2019-2020 season and beyond. Will more players start to rest or possibly forgo upperclass years altogether? Then we discussed the Men's win over UNO and the women vs Troy. Derrick covered the dawgs in the NFL. We finished off previewing the Abilene Christian game (begrudgingly). The Gabe tried to assert that Starkville has produced great players in every sport (they haven't) and attempted to claim Cool Papa Bell of the Negro Leagues as one despite the fact he couldn't attend Starkville High because...segregation.

In today's episodes I wanted to take a moment to go against the narrative that MSU is hopelessly doomed and is going to get obliterated by Bama today. Yet, that's not the only thing we'll be talking about. We'll start off with discussing if we should go with the hot hand in Tommy Stevens today or go with the "future" in Garrett Shrader. Then we'll be discussing the men and women's basketball teams and their success especially our star freshman trio of Rickea Jackson, Jamya Mingo-Young, and Aliyah Matharu. Then we'll finish off with our Alabma preview. Whatever you do today DON'T STOP BELIEVIN!!!

We start by addressing an interview in which Paul Finebaum expressed that Joe Moorhead isn't a good fit at MSU, but is he right? Then we go back to discuss the results of the Texas A&M game which looked better in the box score than it did in practice. Next we preview the Arkansas game and if it's our last winnable SEC game and what happens if we lose? We've seen Tommy Stevens and we've seen Garrett Shrader, and it would appear that KT isn't going to play this year. However, we still have one QB on the roster who we haven't gotten a good look at in Moose Mayden. Should we be giving him a look given that the other QBs we have look mediocre at best? These questions and more in this episode of the Black Dawgs Sports Podcast!!!

Today AJ came in a little late so Gabe is on hosting duty and AJ joins a little later as a panelist and has some strong words from another fellow panelist. We start off by talking about the LSU game where the Bulldogs showed some fight but ultimately came up short. Kylin Hill who was poised for a breakout season is bottled up again and we debate whether he's being wasted in Starkville and should look toward greener pastures like the NFL. We also preview the TAMU game and what our chances will look like in College Station against the Aggies. We also talk about the controversy surround Joe Moorhead and if he should be fired or if he'll go to Rutger. We also discuss if we're making a mistake by giving up so soon. The final major topic is that of Bulldogs in the NFL. We were especially excited about the debut of Jeffery Simmons with the Tennessee Titans. This is a longer episode but trust us....it's still full of info, heated debates, and fun banter!

In this week's episode we talk about the Tennessee game and what went wrong and how to fix it. We then discuss if we should cut ties with Joe Moorhead and the consequences of waiting to do so versus taking a wait and see approach. Finally we discuss our #HailStateHurt of moments that caused us heartbreak during our times as MSU fans. At some point we throw in an LSU preview but let's be realistic. If you asked Joe Moorhead about our team's execution he'd be in favor of it.

Then we discuss if Garrett Shrader or Tommy Stevens should be the starter come Saturday and the rest of the season. We have news out of Nashville that Jeffery Simmons might play sooner than we think. Then, we wrap up with a preview of the Tennessee game and what we should and should not do if we plan to win. Ricardo's prediction is truly a shocker!

We start off discussing the debacle that was the Auburn game. Then we move on to if the Tommy Stevens experiment is over in Starkville. There's a rumor floating around that Joe Moorhead may take the Rutgers job but do we even care? In the middle of the show we were joined by former O-Lineman John James who gives his thoughts on Joe Moorhead, the state of MSU athletics, a lack of inclusion of former Bulldogs and an eyewitness account of the 1992 Jack Sherrill bull castration incident to honor PETA saying Bully should be removed from our sidelines. In today's episode we recap the Kansas State game for the final time. We specifically wonder aloud if we'd have won the game with a healthy Tommy Stevens. Me and the crew also wonder if the sky is falling or has it already fell and we just don't know. We've also concluded that these suspensions are finding the entire football team in the alps .  Moving on from the charlie foxtrot that was last week we address the #FakeNews that was the "good game" between "top ten" Florida and Kentucky. We finish by discussing if Jerry Jones needs to open up his wallet to Dak Prescott (short answer, yes)

In this episode we start off by recapping the USM game even if it was more like them rolling over and playing dead. Then we discuss if Kylin Hill is a legit contender for the Heisman or if he should just focus on the Doak Walker award. We also previewed the Kansas State game and how our strengths match up with theirs. For whatever reason the guys think we need to apologize to the WRs after two games against group of 5 opponents. However, I posited the real apology should be for Tommy Stevens and Jeremiah has a special message for black MSU fans who supported KT. We finish off discussing if Jerry Jones needs to back up the Brinks truck for Dak.

Then we preview what we think will happen in the University Louisiana-Lafayette (we refuse to just call them Louisiana). We also speculate if Keytaon Thompson will leave MSU or stick around this season after losing the starting spot to Captain Tommy Stevens. We also will give our predictions for the Bulldogs' final record along with how we think Kylin Hill and Tommy Stevens will do this season.

This episode is gonna be a "doggone" good time! Get it? No? We'll leave now

We start off discussing the news of Tommy Stevens being named the starter for our Mississippi State Bulldogs and if was the right move. Plus we address the conspiracy theory that he was going to be the starter the entire time and no one else stood a chance? Along those lines we'll also discuss what this means for KT and Moose Mayden and if they should enter the transfer portal. Then we discuss two coaches that Bulldog Nation love to hate, former head coach Dan Mullen and former DC Manny Diaz. We give our opinions on their tenures at MSU and the way they left, then we just talk about which one we want to win less cause we don't really care for either. Then in a non-sports related topic we argue if the chicken sandwich from Popeyes is worth the hype and how it compares to Chick-Fil-A. Somehow a spiel on the Marvel MCU breaks out!

Be warned, the language in this episode is by far stronger than others and two of us were sick but boy was this episode fun!?
