The Advance Movement is a partnership of over 115 churches, operating on 5 continents. This audio resource includes session recordings from all of Advance's Global, Continental and Regional gatherings since its founding. The sessions cover a wide range of topics, including Biblical exegesis, leadership development, marriage strengthening and personal testimony. Featuring speakers including: Terry Virgo, Andrew Wilson, Donnie Griggs, Brett McCracken and many more experienced leaders from around the world.

In Jonah Chapter 4 we find a man with a death wish, in complete meltdown, flipping’ out … pick your metaphor.
Drawing from the text, PJ highlights seven stabilizers for life and ministry to help us avoid a meltdown when in season of immense pressure, including: Ensure that Jesus is your only Lord; Build in physical and emotional rhythms of rest; Settle that you will always be a work in progress; Acquire a big displacing evangelistic vision; Be in team / community; Be in Scripture; and Come to the great Jonah.

PJ highlights four facets of mission, as seen in the early church in Acts. Including: the remarkable progress made, the emphasis on continued advance; it is supernaturally empowered and finally, it is ours to continue this ancient story.

Preaching out of Ephesians 2, Chad speaks to the importance of building multicultural churches in our movement. The church is Jesus' plan A for reconciliation of the nations and there is no plan B. Chad works through practical steps and postures that will be required for our churches to succeed in this mission critical task.

Brian Barr tackles the challenging issue of politics and its infiltration of the church. Political tribalism has taken hold; you are expected to aggressively and militantly oppose the opposition. Exaggeration is rife. Christians are tearing apart other Christians online. Brian reminds us from Phil 4.5, that reasonableness should mark us as Christians. If we fail to behave like Christians in this season, he foresees four consequences for the church. Including: Our confidence in Jesus will be replaced by confidence in a candidate; We will fail to be like Jesus to those around us; We will promote division in the body of Christ by elevating candidates above Jesus; We will harm our witness to those who don't know Jesus.

Shaun Craig speaks from Psalm 78, encouraging us with the words of Asaph, who writes a psalm to remind the listeners of the amazing stories of God in the past. We tell these stories to reset our hope in God.
Have you forgotten what God has done as the nation and world endures a unique season of testing? Have you forgotten what God has done in your life? There are stories in your church of God's goodness, supernatural intervention and life change. The Church has survived civil wars, Spanish flu, 9/11, the global financial crisis... surely it will survive 2020.

In the days before Christ's ascension, Luke tells us in Acts 1 that "He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God." What is the Kingdom of God? Why did Christ emphasize this topic shortly before his ascension?
PJ encourages us in this session with a look at three facets of the Kingdom of God. It is spiritual, not geographic. It is spiritual, not political. It comes in a steady stream, rarely suddenly.

The ladies share honest stories of their ministry experiences, both highs and lows, across various stages of life and ministry. They share practical wisdom gained through their experiences navigating the unique pressures of leadership and relationships in the communities they lead.
The session opens with a brief preview of four new books written by PJ Smyth.
Rigby and Sue Wallace then share their journey though the South African lockdown, and their insight on a Biblical response to trying times. As our communities face growing persecution, growing economic hardship they exhort us to be anchored in scripture. Reading from 1 Peter 4:12-19, they charge us to recognise life will require moments of suffering, that we should trust God throughout and continue to do good.
The sessions closes with a panel discussion with various couples including: Craig's, Smyths and Durbins hosted by Erik Santiago.

The year 2020 has brought myriad challenges to our communities and so our churches. COVID, a polarizing election cycle and a civil rights crisis. Yet Peter's greeting helps us reset our perspectives, recognizing that life and ministry as exiles, in a hostile world would inevitably bring us seasons of trial. Through all this, we must first remember with wonder that God loves us, pursues us and sanctifies us. Further we respond by conducting ourselves honorably, loving our neighbors, honoring our leaders and showing hospitality to all.
In this presentation, Erik Santiago chats to Brett McCracken, Vaughn Jarrett and Donnie Griggs about the challenge of political polarization in the American church.
They discuss the rise of politics as religion, the challenges of pastoring a church in this climate, divisions along age and race groups and preparing for the post election season.
In an unprecedented season of Global uncertainty, PJ Smyth draws parallels with the Phillipian church that found itself in similarly trying circumstances.
In the midst of an uncertain future Paul writes to the Phillipian church to strengthen them. He reminds them of their status as sons and daughters of their Father God, the wider group of churches and leaders standing shoulder to shoulder with them, and finally the joy of relationships within a local church community.
These facets of partnership undergird us in tough seasons. They orient us toward eternity, they are affectionate and encourage us first and foremost to come before an almighty Saviour whose arm is not too short to save.
Finally we are reminded that Paul, finding himself in prison, kept mission front of mind. Through his incarceration the prison guard came to faith. PJ charges each of our churches to courageously reach out to those we are in contact with, as these unique circumstances increasingly create an openness to the Gospel.

Stephen highlights key moments: Jonah's disobedience and his subsequent respectful retreat from God's request; God sending a storm as grace to Jonah; God sending a whale as grace to Jonah.

Shockingly, Jonah delivers his 5 word sermon of impending destruction but does not tell the Ninevites that God will relent if they repent! When they repent, and God relents, Jonah is outraged,
Jonah had a personal experience of God's grace in his own life, but he had not let the Gospel sink deep into his heart. Though a beneficiary of God's grace already, he can't stand to see his enemies as recipients of the very same grace.
The real theme of this book is revealed in the final session: Our great God's great concern, for the great city of Nineveh.
Will we model Jonah or Jesus' willingness to see the goodness of God come to all people?

The project has flourished since inception, receiving wide attention from her community in Bournemouth. She shares the background to the project, surfacing the base needs of this group and our opportunity to serve them and share Jesus with them.

The natural response is to run away from it or turn a blind eye. As society grows more secular, young people are less and less likely to be churchgoers. We need to avoid quick and superficial solutions in order to reach young people. Instead, we need to think about the deeper currents that are causing this trend to take place, and then unearth the resources we have in the gospel to make a deep impact in this generation.

The story of Samson is both comic (killing a thousand men with a donkey’s jawbone) and brutal (killing a thousand men with a donkey’s jawbone). It is also a story rich in applications for us. In his encounter with Delilah (told in Judges 16), Samson provides us with a picture and metaphor of the dangers of entanglement with the world. Rather than fall into the mistakes made by Samson we need to remember our status as exiles.

Mosala Balatseng (Grace Generation Church) delivered the plenary session at the Western Cape Hub Celebration evening, hosted at Jubilee Community Church, Cape Town, South Africa. Date: 10 October 2019.
Mosala spoke on the theme of stewardship, investigating the origins of the word and concept to give context to our modern day understanding. He notes the crucial link between stewardship and humility, humility as a foundation of unity and Jesus' example of perfect stewardship.

We are gospel people, mission people, which means we must remain engaged with the mission field around us. Yet, engaging in a different way, an older way, as those with a word from the future, from the only culture where we really belong. A Gospel Culture. Understanding that a church in exile should not be a church in retreat! (Luke 10:29-37)

He suggests three practical steps for churches, including: - that we aim to unite, rather than waste time hand-wringing over the use of specific terms and language. - the need for a posture of repentance by churches when engaging with gay members of the community - the need for churches to honor and empower the single, celibate lifestyle in our church communities.

Donnie then works through Jeremiah 29, noting that God sent his people into exile. While there, God asks that we give ourselves to our communities, putting down roots and committing to them. That we seek the welfare of its people, through good works and especially through prayer.

It gives us a potent insight into the dynamics of prayer. Here is a picture of an earthly father called Caleb who gives a good gift to his children as they ask. God invites us to investigate the nature of their asking, and the nature of his giving, to give us a glimpse into the dynamics of prayer."

Lois and Ben planted into the Rhondda Valley's of South Wales a few years ago, and have been steadily growing a healthy church in a community facing significant socio-economic challenges. Despite the challenges, she reflects on her own experiences and the many opportunities their church has discovered to reach people with God's good news.

PJ and Ashleigh Smyth lead Advance's Global team, and are based on the East Coast of the United States. PJ opens the conference with a vignette from Psalm 127, to introduce the theme and calibrate our thoughts for the week together. He uses the Psalm's bowman and arrow imagery to flesh out the team's conviction that the Lord is calling us to be churches that are intentionally 'deformed' in our prioritizing investment into the next generation of leaders.

The Gauteng Hub, in South Africa, gathered their churches at Cornerstone Church, on 7 April 2019 for a Together Sunday. Their guest speaker was David Holden, who is part of the New Frontiers apostolic team.
David is married to Liz and they have four grown-up children and an ever increasing number of grandchildren, with whom he enjoys spending time. He is an ardent West Ham supporter, lover of jazz and avid reader of history.

Andrew makes the case for embracing both eucharistic and charismatic worship in our churches. He then go on to discuss some of the tensions that inevitably emerge, and how church leaders can navigate these. He raises thought provoking questions around our tendency to develop theology from practice/culture, instead of the other way round.
