Selfishness is seen in the Bible as a sinful mindset that puts one’s own desires above the needs of others and the will of God. Scripture warns that selfishness leads to division, pride, and spiritual emptiness. Philippians 2:3 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” True Christian living calls for selflessness, love, and service, reflecting the example of Jesus, who gave Himself for others.
Proverbs 1 introduces the purpose of the book: to impart wisdom, discipline, and understanding. It declares that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7), warning that fools despise wisdom and instruction. The chapter includes a father’s urgent plea to avoid sinful influences and ends with wisdom’s voice crying out in the streets, offering guidance to those who will listen. It’s a powerful call to choose God’s wisdom over the path of destruction.
Proverbs 2 teaches the value of seeking wisdom as a treasure. It shows how godly wisdom protects, guides, and delivers us from evil. The chapter encourages believers to listen to God’s Word, pursue understanding, and walk in righteousness. When we follow the wisdom of the Lord, He guards our steps and gives us discernment to avoid the traps of the wicked. It is a powerful reminder that true safety and direction come from a heart that seeks God.
