This week Adam continued The One series with a look at another of Jesus' most famous messages!
In our culture, what truth really is is a hotly debated question. But Jesus tells us that when we know the truth, it will free us.
In the first message of The One series, we'll talk about how we can pursue truth, and how it really can set us free.
2020 was a rough one, right?Â
Hear Adam talk about the hope for a better tomorrow in this Christmas Eve service.
If you've heard the Christmas story before (maybe even a hundred times before), it's easy for the astonishing to become ho-hum.
A virgin giving birth? God coming to earth as a baby? These events that should fill us with awe and amazement instead elicit little reaction.
This Sunday, we'll rediscover the wonder of Christmas, and find out how doing so can help us through the darkest of times. Come be filled with hope this Christmas season!

This Sunday, we're talking about giving the kinds of gifts that make a lasting difference, that can even change the course of someone's life.

With 24-hour news cycles, live streams and Twitter, we are exposed to more trauma and heartache today than at any other time in history. We are also better informed than we have ever been before. But is that a healthy way to live?
This Sunday, we're closing out our What in the World! series with a message on compassion fatigue, and what Jesus says is the antidote to it.
Political correctness is a hot button topic in our culture. We're constantly accusing each other of being either too sensitive or too callous, and no one wins. But God wants to redeem every part of our lives, including the words we say.

As a culture, we are living in crazy times. We live with the world at our fingertips. Never before have we been more informed, engaged and connected. But with conflict over the pandemic to celebrity scandals to racial injustice, never before have we been more confused, angry and divided. What in the world is going on?
In our new four-week series, we will explore topics â like cancel culture, polarizing views and mob mentality â through the lens of what Jesus would have to say about them.

Now more than ever, love seems to be absent from our attitudes, words, and actions. We say we love others, but really we donât. Instead, weâre quick to shake our fists at drivers, judge the stranger who looks strange, and trash the person online who thinks differently than we do. Instead of loving, we hurt, belittle, and overlook people. Yet Jesus says that loving others (& God) is the most important thing. How do we do this?
Join Adam for a three-week series as look at what real love looks like in the lives of real people. Sometimes the people we least expect.

Jesusâs loving pursuit of his people is something we canât get away from. At our lowest point, in our darkest hour, at our very worst â Jesus pursues us, but he loves us too much to simply leave us there.
For Easter weâre looking at a story of pursuit â the story of a little girl whom Jesus brought back from the dead. This story might not feel familiar to us, but when we take a closer look, weâll discover that this story is our story â a story of Jesus meeting someone in the deepest pit and bringing them out and a story of new life when all hope was lost.
The first message of the Pursuit series dives into how at our very worst, Jesus pursues us, but he loves us too much to simply leave us there.
As social distancing becomes the new norm, it is easy to feel scattered â physically, emotionally, spiritually. Things that perhaps seemed certain, like jobs, resources and good health, suddenly feel very uncertain.
But amid the chaos that the Coronavirus has inflicted upon our culture, God promises us an inheritance with Him, an inheritance that is beyond the reach of whatever change may come next.Â

We're pressing pause on our Further series to talk about those pivotal moments in life when God decides to take us in a direction we never saw coming.
What does it mean to go further in your walk with God? Further in your trust that he will provide? Further in your willingness to hold the things you have loosely.Â
During our two-week Further series (weâll be taking a break to celebrate Baptism Sunday on March 8th), weâll be exploring these questions and more, taking a look at what it really means to go further in our relationship with God.Â
We were all created for something.Â
To do good works.Â
To love those around us.Â
To be Jesusâ hands and feet on Earth.Â
To RUN.Â
Over the next three weeks weâre going to be putting the words of Ephesians 2:10 into actionâtalking about how weâyou and meâare The Church, and looking at how we can turn that fact into action, literally. Because running after Jesus isnât something we just do in our heads and hearts, instead itâs a way of lifeâsomething that will push us beyond comfort zones, into our streets and communities, and out into the world.Â
Join us for The Run Project series starting Sunday, February 9th, and find out how you too can run toward Jesus in a whole new way.Â

âYou complete me!â Often this is something we find ourselves saying while madly in love with someone, or, letâs be honest, even to our favorite guilty pleasureââYou complete me, Starbucks!â (Weâve all been there at one point or another).Â
But is the phrase âYou complete meâ really even true? Even more so, is this way of living beneficial to us or the people we too often believe are the answer to the gaps in our life?Â
As we begin a new year, a new decade, weâll be taking a look at this idea of another person or thing like our job having the power to make us whole. Because while our natural tendency is to run to relationships to complete us, in the end Jesus is the only person who has that kind of power in our lives.

Have you been through any trials this year? Experienced your fair share of failures? Find yourself lacking resources? Where we want to say, âno thanksâ God shows us how to be thankful, even for the worst life can throw our way.

This time of year especially, we're told to be thankful for all the good things in our lives. But what about the not-so-good things, the things we would rather do without, the things we want to say "no thanks!" to? One of those "no thanks" things is trials, but where we would rather skip the parts of our lives that have trials in them, God has another plan. God shows us that we should be thankful for trialsânot because they're super fun, but because they help us to grow, they increase our endurance, and they bring our faith to completion. Is there a trial in your life that you've gone through or are going through right now? How can you begin to be thankful for that trial today?
If we've been going to church for a while, we probably haven't gotten a lot of good advice on dating. That's because sometimes the church treats single and dating people like they don't belong thereâjust get married already! But the truth is, God has a lot of good advice worth taking on dating (and being single!). First off, it's pretty awesome to be single! God says if we can stay single, stay single! And His advice for those of us out there who are dating? Stop looking for The One and start becoming The One! Yep, that other person is not going to complete you (sorry Jerry McGuire!), and you probably won't change them, but they will change you. God's advice on dating and singleness is so important, together let's treat it as advice worth taking!
You've maybe been given some advice on sex ... or maybe not. Sex isn't really something we like to talk about, inside church or outside of it. But God Himself has some advice on sex for us. What is that advice? We're doing it wrong. Sex isn't a cheap imitation to be consumed or hidden, instead sex is good. Sex was created by God to be a beautiful gift between a man and a wife in marriage, and if we're using it any other way we're doing it wrong. Looking for some advice worth taking? Start viewing (and living out) sex as the picture it is of Jesus's relationship with his church.

We get and seek out advice on a lot of things, but sin probably isn't one of them. But when we take a closer look at what God says through His Word, He has a lot of advice to give on this concept of sin, aka anything outside of what God wants for us. So, what exactly is God's advice on sin? 1. Our sin is worse, much worse than we think it is. Heavy, right? But on the flip side, 2. God's grace is better than you can imagineâthere is nothing, absolutely nothing God won't forgive. This kind of advice is at times hard for us to take, but for us what it really means is that in our struggle God still loves us. And that advice, it can change our lives.

We all want connection, don't we? But the truth is, a lot of us are lonelier than we've ever been despite the constant "connection" we have through things like social media and our smart phones. What does true connection look like? It's actually pretty simple: we need face to face friends, real friends, sticky friends, and fire pit friends. But these types of friendships don't happen overnight. We have to actively seek this type of connection out. Starting this week let's step out, pray, and get connected. We don't have to be lonely, together we can choose connection.

Comparison and the discontent it brings have been around for centuries (just take a look at the Israelites if you need an example!). But our addiction to social media has thrown gasoline on the fire of comparison. Because of this comparison we're constantly falling into discontmentâdiscontentment that romanticizes the past, resents today, and forfeits our future. How do we break this cycle? There's two ways out: practice gratitude and stop focusing on our giants. We don't have to fall into comparison and discontentâwe haven't lost out on the good things of life, instead we've simply lost our focus.Â

We all have to deal with hard feelings, don't we? Feelings of stress, pain, sadnessâsometimes it feels like too much. When things start to get overwhelming, we often try to numb ourselves out, whether that's through mindless scrolling on our phones, shopping, drinking too much, obsessive cleaning, or whatever. But while numbing may work for things like getting a cavity, numbing doesn't work on our souls. In fact, the only thing that will take us out of those overwhelming moments of stress, sadness, and pain is acknowledging those hard feelings, bringing them to Jesus and letting him heal us.
We're diving into a brand-new series called You Tube Fails & Rabbit Trails and Adam talks through the positive side of failure.
We all love to watch fail video after fail video on YouTube, right? I mean, who doesn't, they're pretty hilarious! But are we taking this habit of laughing at other people's failures, of commenting on their worst moments, too far? In the story of the Good Samaritan we're told about three men who had the choice whether or not to help someone who was in the midst of failure. Which person are you in this story? Which person are you in life? The good news is, Jesus doesn't comment on our failures, he erases them. Let's be people that help others up when they fail, let's be like the Good Samaritan.Â
Is Jesus Enough? 57th Street Campus Pastor Brian Rock explores this question during the final message of the Heart of Embrace series.
In this episode of CUT FOR TIME, guest host Jacob Lewis and Adam Weber talk EMBRACING people through small groups and doing life together as well as RUNNING to those in need.

As a church, we were built on the vision of reaching the next person for Jesus, but what does that really mean? This week weâre looking at the first two parts of our mission statement: Encounter and Compassion, and how these two sometimes messy words take shape in the real lives of the people who make up Embrace.
The Holy Spirit has the incredible power to empower and guide us in our lives, but in order to let him do that work in us we have to give him control. How? By being indifferent to the interference of the world and surrendering the desires of our flesh. It's easier said than done, but the Holy Spirit didn't come to be a consultant in our lives, he has come to take control. Will you give him that control?Â
In the Holy Spirit, Jesus sent us an advocate to both convict and comfort us. Conviction often seems harsh, doesn't it? The Holy Spirit will convict us of things that need to change in our lives, but he does it for our good, to draw us closer to Jesus. In the midst of that conviction is also the Spirit's comforting power. He's the one who is able to comfort us in every season of our lives, to be with us when things get hard and we need someone to lean on. The Holy Spirit has the power to transform our lives, for our good let's listen to his conviction and allow him to comfort us.Â

We get it, the whole God in three parts thing is kind of hard to wrap our brains around. But the Holy Spirit doesnât have to be a big mysterious concept! In fact, the Holy Spirit is here to help make the big mysterious parts of life clear to usâheâs our helper, the Spirit of God with us and in us. We live in a broken world today, but just because things are broken doesn't mean they can't be made whole. Jesus has the power to reclaim usâto show us the way things could beâthe potential and hope for our relationship with creation, others, ourselves, and God. Reclaim means we no longer belong to the brokenness, we belong to Jesus, and that's one of the most amazing parts of this greatest story ever told.Â

There's a pattern to our prayers, and this pattern is maybe the most evident in The Lord's Prayer. Sure, a lot of us have heard this prayer before, but does it still matter today? How can phrases like "who art in heaven" and "thy kingdom come" change us? The Lord's Prayer is not just any pattern, instead it's a pattern that puts our hearts, minds, and soul in the right position to talk with God, and that's a pattern worth practicing.Â

At the beginning of creation everything was perfect, but all too soon we as humans broke that perfection, resulting in the way things are today. The thing is, we know we're broken, so we try desperately to fix that brokenness, often starting with ourselves, then turning to other people, and finally looking to the world to fix us. But none of those things can fix our brokenness, only Jesus can! And that's where the redemption part of the story comes in.Â

Beginnings are the best! Whether it's the beginning of a vacation or the beginning of a meal, beginnings are amazing. The same is true with the beginning of the world: Creation. In the beginning we were at peace with God, ourselves, and God's creationâthings were the way they ought to be. Life isn't like that perfect beginning anymore, but we can still find ways to live out that beginning today: through remembering the beginning and reflecting the goodness of that beginning in our everyday lives.Â

In our everyday lives, Jesus is calling us to two things: to be attractive with our words and proactive in our actions. Do you actually believe the words of the Bible can change you from the inside out? That's what Colossians chapter 3 is promising us, that if we put on the things of God's Wordâkindness, humility, patienceâand take off the things that are holding us backâgreed, hurtful words, selfishnessâthat we will be made new. How cool is that?! We're a new creation because of what Jesus did for us.Â
This weeks episode we sit down with Brian Rock and chat about his latest message in our "This Letter Is For You" Series! We dive deeper and uncover what was CUT FOR TIME in his most recent message. Listen in on a great conversation about fitness, faithfulness, and how to say yes to God when he calls you to go deeper.
A lot of us believe that being a Christian is simply the answer to a question: Yes, I believe in Jesus. And then that's it. But what if answering the question isn't enough? What if God is calling us to something more? What if He's calling us to go deeper still? Going deeper means we actually follow. It's often painful and uncomfortable, but it makes our relationship with Jesus more than an answer to a questionâit makes our lives an adventure with him along for the ride.Â
On today's podcast we sit down with our St.Croix Campus Pastor Austin Walker! We chat about his most recent message in our new series, This Letter Is For You! Take a listen to what was CUT FOR TIME in this week's message!
A lot of the time, the world tells us that Jesus isn't enough for usâwe have to have more, do more, be more, in order to have it all. But the truth Paul shares in the book of Colossians is this: Jesus is supreme in every way and sufficient for every day. Jesus plus nothing really does equal everything. If we have Jesus, we have everything.Â
This week we sat down with Travis Waltner to chat about his most recent message in our Dumb Things Christians Say Series, "Share This If You Love Jesus." We talk more about dumb superstitions, sports, and what it means to just BE with God. Join us as we ask what was CUT FOR TIME in this week's message!
Have you ever gotten one of those emails that says, "share this if you love Jesus?" Yeah, it might seem kind of dumb, but part of us probably feels guilty not forwarding it onâbecause what if Jesus really will love us less if we don't?? This kind of thing might sound silly, but it points to a larger issue of making our faith in Jesus superstitious instead of sincere. When we go through the motions in the hopes of earning God's love, we have a kind of superstitious faith. But what if we did things like reading our Bibles and going to church not because we wanted to earn God's blessings, but because we sincerely want to know more about Him? Let's make our faith sincere, not superstitious.Â
This week we sat down with Adam Weber to chat about his most recent message in our Dumb Things Christians Say Series, "Have You Heard About ______ ? We Should Pray For Them." We had a blast talking about gossip, being there for a friend, and getting sunburns while sitting outside! Check out our conversation about what was CUT FOR TIME and so much more!
Let's be honest, we've probably all said something about another person and attempted to disguise this gossip as a prayer request. Sadly, it's pretty easy to do. But this isn't the example Jesus sets for us. Instead of talking about someone, Jesus always stood with people. He knew gossip distances us, while love brings us closer. Instead of talking about someone and saying we should pray for them, let's pray for that person right then and there, resolving to let our words spread love, not gossip.
We're in a series called Dumb Things Christians Say, and our 57th Street Campus Pastor (Brian Rock) gave a great message all about the phrase "Love The Sinner Hate The Sin."Â
There's only so much time for a message during the weekend. So we sat down with Brian to chat about what was CUT FOR TIME plus much more!
As people, we use the phrase "love the sinner, hate the sin" as a way to show others we still "love" them even if we disagree with them. But is hating their sin really what Jesus calls us to? Actually, Jesus asks us to love the sinner. Period. What if instead of spending so much time hating the sins of others we put that energy into getting rid of our own sin, loving people for who they are, wherever they are. Love the sinner, hate your own sin.
We're taking a look back on all God did during the Ripple Effect series! Listen in as we recap all 5 weeks of the series and have some laughs along the way.Â

You've probably heard the phrase, "God won't give you more than you can handle," before. It's comforting, a nice thing to say when people are hurting. But the truth is, God WILL give you more than you can handle. Life happens, things get out of control, the worst-case scenario does occur. Thankfully though, God never gives us more than HE can handle. God shows up, because He has to.
This Easter, we might be tempted to look at the criminals hanging on the cross beside Jesus and think we're one or the otherâwe either doubt Jesus or we believe him, we're either good or bad. But really, the only difference between the two men is that one of them believed the man in the middle: he believed he fell short, he believed Jesus was perfect, and he believed Jesus could rescue him. What do you believe today? Let that belief draw you closer to the man in the middle.
So often we think of doubt as a bad thing, when really it's about the direction our doubts take us: away from Jesus or towards him. Jesus will always be the man in the middle, the place where we can bring our doubts and questions, and he's not moving. When we bring our doubt to Jesus we find that he cares for us, he loves us, he wants the real us, and ultimately, he will answer us. What doubts are you carrying today? Bring them to the man in the middle.
So often we can turn what we do for a living into our life. Jesus flips that concept upside down, calling the disciples to not simply be fishermen, but to be fishers of men. He does the same with us today. We're no longer just a teacher, accountant, or nurse, instead our purpose is found in the people we interact with, the people we invite to a life greater than any they've ever known.
At some point we each have to decide whether or not we want to follow Jesus with our lives. This looks different for each of us, but we all go through a process of seeking, hearing and ultimately deciding who Jesus will be to us. Where are you at today? If you've already decided to follow Jesus with your life, are you being faithful to that promise?
So often we tend to be consumers rather than contributors, especially when it comes to church. But when we take a look at the early church found in the book of Acts, we're given an example of fellowship where everyone shared, everyone participated, and everyone contributed. What would it look like for church to look a little more like that? What would it look like if we simply saw a need, and filled it?
We all exist inside a big circle with the people who are like us. But Jesus calls us to step outside that circle, to go to the places where everyone is not exactly like us. One of the ways we can go outside our circles is by getting connected to the country of Haiti. Ripple effects begin when we go somewhere new. Don't be afraid to connect, sponsor, give, and go through our partnership in Haiti. Together we're going to create a ripple effect outside our circles!
When the need's so great, it's hard to think about how God could possibly use what we have to offer. But Jesus keeps it simple: just give what you've got! Whatever you have, put it in the hands of Jesus and watch him multiply it, whether that's through your job, your connections, or your finances. Ultimately giving starts with us.
Finding peace with yourself physically, chemically, and psychologically is so important, but true peace is something that only comes from God. We can live in three different places when it comes to finding peace with God: the natural person, under the rules, and under God's love. It's only under God's love that we can find true peace, true grace, true joy.
So much of our anxiety stems not from outside circumstances, but from the pressures and pitfalls within our own heads. God promises to bring us through our anxieties, but sometimes that healing process begins with admitting that we are in the dark. In order to experience the peace that God offers, we must first admit where we are in our anxiety and then be vulnerable with someone else. God desires His peace for us, but we have to make peace with ourselves first.
Listen in as Adam and Holly share more practical ways to attack back on anxiety, expanding on the 4 points Holly talked about from stage Sunday. You'll hear more of Holly and Adam's personal stories of fighting anxiety, plus gain a few more tools to use when anxiety does attack.
Anxiety is not something we have to simply endure, instead we have the ability to combat and attack it, not allowing anxiety to rule our lives anymore. Four ways to attack back on anxiety include: getting professional help, finding a friend, marinating in worship, and fighting back with Scripture. With these tools in mind you can be better equipped to attack, and we pray ultimately overcome, your battle with anxiety.
Ever felt anxious? Afraid? Worried? We've probably all been there at one time or another. But there are tools we can use to fight these battles against fear, worry, and anxiety: naming our fears and destroying the lie that we're alone in our anxiety. Once we realize those two truths we can be assured that God was handling our anxieties, long before we were worried about them.Â

2019 may be your year, but news flash: it's not about you! When we're the star of our own stories failure is inevitable, and when we do fail it's all on us. But when God is the center of our world, even the worst failures can be turned into victory through Him. This year let's make our lives not about us by serving those who can't give us anything in return and by rejoicing in the successes of others. This is your year, but it's not about you!
Sometimes we become overwhelmed by what we think are the countless bad things in our lives, but Jesus tells us to count the good all around us instead of focusing on the bad. The reality is, there are more good things in our lives than bad, and even in the bad God is at work. Instead of looking for the false, wrong, and ugly things this year, let's celebrate the true, right, and lovely of 2019!Â
We all need people in our lives, but there's two specific types of people that we need more than any others: champions and challengers. Champions are encouragers, pushing your further in your walk with Jesus. But we need challengers too, people who aren't afraid to ask the hard questions and challenge us when we need it. Together, we truly are better. This is YOUR year, but an important question to ask is: who are you doing this year with?Â
New Year's resolutions are hard! And though there can be a lot of good to setting goals for the new year, there's also a lot of guilt that comes along with those goals when we don't accomplish them how we imagined. To really make 2019 our best year yet we have to give ourselves some grace, trusting in God's plan even when we fail, and not quitting when things don't work out like we planned.
Welcome to Christmas Eve at Embrace! We all have things in life that are threatening to extinguish our light: the chaos of the season, hurtful people, bad choices, just to name a few. But while the light in our hearts can so easily be put out, Jesus' light never will! His light came to Earth as a baby 2,000 years ago. This Christmas let's celebrate and embrace the light of the world!
What do you adore in life? Is it money, status, relationships, getting ahead? The song "Oh Come all Ye Faithful" calls us to come let us adore HIM ... Jesus! But what if we don't feel like we adore Jesus? How can we make him a bigger part of our lives and as a result, love him more? We must dwell in Jesus' house, see his beauty, and seek him with expectation. When we do those three things we can't help but come and adore Jesus!Â
Like the classic song says, God calls us to bring our finest gifts to Him. Are you bringing the best of your time, talent, and treasure to God? But God also wants our worstâthe messy, imperfect, far from polished parts of our lives. We're asked to bring our worst and our best, because God's best gift, Jesus, came to redeem the worst of us.
We're all weary in some way. We're tired. The world can be a sad place, even at Christmastime. But there is still hopeâa hope not found in circumstances or other people, but an unending hope found in Jesus. What are you placing your hope in this Christmas?
"Let every heart prepare Him room" is one of the most famous lines from Joy to the World, but what does it actually mean to prepare room for Jesus in our hearts and lives this Christmas? There's a lot of practical things we can do to make more room in our lives, but why should we do that in the first place? Because more room leads to more Jesus and more Jesus leads to more joy! Couldn't we all use more joy this Christmas? Let's prepare Him room.Â
Fear will keep us from a lot of things in life, but most importantly it will keep us from fostering and growing our relationships with others, and with God. We deal with fear in many ways: through courage, logic, faith, forgetting, and addictions, but the only solution to fear is love. True love centered on Jesus will conquer fear, completing our relationships instead of killing them.
We've all been given a race to run in life, but what will kill that race and our relationships faster than anything? Comparison. Looking around at what other people have been blessed with will kill anything special in our lives. So how do we kill comparison? Simply stop looking around! Run your race, and cheer others on in their races. Let's celebrate, rather than compare.Â
How do you find your calling, and once you find it, how do you live it out? Author and speaker Ken Costa of the Alpha organization talks purpose and passion no matter what season of life you're in.Â
We all like to be right, don't we? But when liking to be right becomes a need to be right all the time we begin to hurt our relationships with others and God. How can we fix that? Stop defending ourselves. Realize that it's okay to be wrong. And learn God's rightness. When we put these three things into practice, though easier said than done, we'll begin to crave God's rightness in our relationships, instead of our own.
Why does holding grudges kill our relationships? Because we're refusing to forgive like Jesus first forgave us. Some grudges are pettyâthe driver cutting us off in traffic, the offhand comment made by a friendâthose we simply need to get over and move on from in kindness. Other grudges are not so easy to get past. It's in those moments that we need Jesus' example of forgiveness more than everâto prevent those grudges from consuming and killing our relationships.
What's one thing that kills our relationships? Magnifying faults. All too often we use a magnifying glass to see what the people in our lives are doing wrong, when really we should be using a magnifying mirror to examine ourselves first. How do we bring these relationships back to life? Simply switch the order: first looking at ourselves, then to Jesus, and then to helping our neighbors.
We've all been thirsty before, but have you ever felt a thirst that only Jesus can fill? Jesus is the living water, quenching our thirst in a way nothing else in life can. But Jesus doesn't just fill us so we can be satisfied, he fills us up so we can overflow and bring his life-giving water to everyone around us.
Ever feel like God has left you without a trace? You're stuck and don't know where to turn next? Sometimes our lives can feel like the movie, Ghostâthe one who was always supposed to be there has left and we feel directionless, alone. But get this, God's presence isn't dependent on our ability to see it; God's presence is dependent on His ability to keep His promises. And He never breaks His promises. We are never alone.
Have you heard about the gremlins? They may look cute and cuddly at first, but they can be deadly. Kind of like us and sin. It sounds nice to follow our hearts, but in the end our desires, apart from God, can lead to death. The only way to kill a gremlin is to bring it into the light, the same goes for us. When our sin is brought into the light of God's truth we're able to get rid of itâkilling our sinful desires with God's promises and His truth.
What do we have in common with a little alien from another planet? We both don't belong on Earth. All E.T. wanted was to go homeâas Christians, our home also isn't here, it's in heaven. But while we're here on Earth we're called to think about heaven, bring heaven down to Earth, and eagerly wait for heaven. Someday we too will be heading home.
What can the 80's movie Back to the Future teach us about Jesus? A lot actually (and not just how to drive a DeLorean)! While Marty McFly travels to the past to change things, Jesus doesn't want to change our past, instead he wants to redeem it. To redeem our past Jesus frees us from it, he's drawn to it, and he uses it. Our past isn't something to be ashamed of, to Jesus it's something to remember and be thankful for.
In the last four weeks we've learned what we're made for: generosity, rest, work, and community. But before anything else, what we're really made for is Jesus. As fall begins and our schedules get crazy, we're made to set Jesus as the cornerstone of our days, of our lives. We were made to start with Jesus.
We're all made for communityâto share our lives with other people. The community Jesus wants for us is one where the people in our lives show up, when no ones else does. It's having people who will do anything to drag us to Jesus. Do you have this kind of community? Are you showing this kind of community to others? We were made for this kind of community, let's go out and create it.
Sometimes it's hard to think that we're made for work. But just like how we're made for rest, we're also made to glorify God through our work the other 6 days of the week! We were each created to work, using our talents to give God, not ourselves, glory. We were made for Monday!
We know we're all made for something, but how is it possible to be made for rest? Like, I have so much to do, who has time for rest? But the truth is, we were each made to have Sabbath in our livesâto take a day each week to rest and remember, and to do it regularly. Rest isn't optional, we were made for it.
We're all made for something, it's the way God designed us, but what does it mean to be made for generosity? Oftentimes we associate generosity with money and giving financially, but Paul paints a different picture for us in the book of Romans. Generosity applies to how we live our lives, holding everything we have loosely and being willing to give what we have to others. This is generosity, this is what we were made for.
God is faithful to us in all kinds of situations, but what about when we're unfaithful to Himâ when we've walked away, replaced Him with other people, things, or passions, let our addictions rule us? God is still faithful, even when we're unfaithful. He will continue to rescue us, time and again, the only thing we need to do is cry out to Him.
Where is God when our health is failing? Is He really faithful in the midst of cancer, chronic pain, miscarriage, loss of a loved one? Here's the truth: God's faithfulness never ends, even when our health does. Our pain may not end in healing, but it can end in His peace.
God's faithfulness is something we all wrestle with at different points in our lives. Especially when it comes to the future, we're quick to doubt that God will be there with us. But here's the truth: God is faithful even when the future is uncertainâHis protection, provision, and love will always be there, no matter what the future holds.
As followers of Jesus, we're following him for a purpose: to reach spiritual maturity. How do we get there? By resisting idols, being wary of busyness, and taking responsibility. As followers of Jesus we're meant to grow closer to him. We know how to get there, now let's follow!
As followers of Jesus weâre called not only to follow Jesus, but also to make followers of Jesus. How do we do this? Tell others what Jesus has done for us. This might sound intimidating at first, but it just means to show people with our lives what Jesus has done in our own life.
As followers of Jesus we're called to take actionâto not only listen to God's Words, but also to practice them. What is one way we can put the Word of God into practice? By listening to the Holy Spirit: following the fruit of the spirit, being consistent, and even sometimes, doing things we don't want to do.
Once our heart is pointing toward following Jesus what's the second step in our walk with him? Listening to his Word and practicing what he says. But anyone can listen to Jesus, it's the wise person that puts his teachings into practice. How do we truly follow Jesus? Just do it. Simply do what Jesus says and watch to see where he leads.
Jesus extends a simple invitation to all of us: "Come follow me." No matter where we areânew Christian, old Christian, or not a Christian at allâwe're all heading in a direction, either toward or away from Jesus. So what direction are you headed? What direction is the arrow of your life pointed?
Saying that we will take off our mask is much easier than actually doing it. How do we not only take off our masks, but keep them off and fully grasp how much Jesus loves who we really are?
Sometimes we wear masks because we don't want God to see who we really are. But the truth is, in Jesus, God not only sees us, but He also delights in us and approves of us. Good news, right? The world may love your mask, but God doesn't. God loves you. And He sees you as you are.
We all tend to wear masks in our lives. Whether it's out of pride, to prove how great we are, or out of shame, to cover up perceived flaws, masks have become part of who we are. But what if we didn't have to put on a mask everyday? What if God already sees us for who we are and loves us anyway? What if He saw us behind the mask all along?
Church can be weird. Ever felt awkward and uncomfortable at church? Doubted that the Bible could be relevant today? Felt judged & didn't want a bunch of religious people to tell you how to change? Thought that all your pastor wanted from you was money? These are the elephants in the room, some of the reasons why church may not be the place we want to be on Sunday.
This Easter we celebrate the fact that Jesus' death and resurrection aren't the end of the story. Instead, Jesus rose to give us new lifeâa forgiven life, a changed life, and a life spent with him. That's not just a celebration for today, but one we can celebrate every day when we choose to lay down our lives for Jesus. Â
On that first Palm Sunday, people lay their coats down as Jesus rode past them. This was everything they had, they were giving it all to Jesus. Jesus may not ride down the street on a donkey this Sunday, but we're still called to give our everything to him, to lay down our lives. Because when we lay down everything before Jesus, we find everything in him.
The tricky thing about influence is that we may never see its impact. Moses, one of the most influential people in the Bible, never saw the promised land. But does that mean we should stop trying to influence others for Jesus? No. Instead, we are called to chase faithfulness that lasts, not influence that fades.
The power of influence is so much greater than we think. It doesn't just happen by mistake. To have true influence we need to be intentional with our actions.
Moses' story is one of influence: standing up to Pharaoh, freeing the Israelites from Egypt, leading his people into battle. But though Moses lived a life of remarkable influence, that influence wouldn't have been possible without people by his side holding him up. We too have influence. But when we're tired, when we're restless, when we're needing to step out spiritually, who is holding us up?
We all struggle to make sense of life sometimes. It feels as if chaos is emerging and there is little that we can do to put things in order. So we fight. It is in these moments of darkness that we are reminded that the purpose of wrestling God is to be changed, to find life and find it abundantly.
The story of Jacob and Esau is one of hurt transforming to healing. But how do we begin to heal when someone in our own life has hurt us like Jacob hurt Esau? It all starts with forgiveness, realizing that payback will never pay us back and working to cancel debt because God first canceled ours. Who do you need to forgive today?
We've all hurt someone, probably more than we'd like to admit. All too often our lives are like the story of Jacob and Esau, brother against brother, betraying and hurting those we love most. What do we do when we hurt someone? How do we move forward and right that wrong? Like Jacob, we must admit our mistake and humble ourselves, only then can hurt turn to healing.
Words are tricky things. They can help or they can harm, lift up or tear down, spread lies or encourage truth. Proverbs tells us that our words are powerfulâthey have the power to bring death or to bring life. How are you using your words?Â
Whether we're 20 or 60 years old, so many of us have our sex life out of order. But luckily, God explains His heart on sex in the book of Proverbs. God sets boundaries for sex, something the world doesn't always do. Ultimately God wants the best for our sex lives, and through His word He'll help us get that area in order.
Money is something we all have to deal with. Whether we have a lot or not enough, money is always going to be part of our lives. But how do we use our money the way God intended it? The first step: acknowledging that debt equals a loss of freedom and generosity equals refreshment. Join us as we work together to get our finances in order.
Each and every Christmas we're given the greatest gift of all: a baby, the savior of the world. But this baby doesn't just change Christmas, instead He changes everythingâour focus, our identity, and our heart. Are you ready to have baby Jesus change you from the inside out this Christmas?
Christmas brings a lot of things, and stress can definitely be one of them. How do we have peace in the midst of this crazy season? Jesus. It seems so simple, and yet the peace Jesus offers us surpasses all understanding. And when we receive His peace we can't help but want to give it to others. Christmas may bring all kinds of stress, but there is peace to be found in Jesus.
Most of us know that Christmas brings The Lord, Jesus, into the world as our Savior. But even though we know Jesus is Lord, is that really how we live in our everyday lives? So often we are the Lord of our own livesâwe're in control and we know what's best. How do we make Jesus the true Lord of our lives this Christmas? By giving up that control and getting on our knees.
Memories are one of the things Christmas brings a ton of. But those memories aren't always of happy moments around the Christmas tree. Instead, sometimes Christmas brings ugly memories to the surface, memories of brokenness, pain, and sin. But along with memories, Christmas also brings us a Savior. We may not forget those memories, those sins, but Jesus will forgive them.
Christmas is a wonderful time of year, but at times the season brings hard things to the surface. Grief, loneliness, unmet expectationsâsometimes it seems like the older we get the less joyful Christmas becomes. But thankfully, Christmas brings so much more than what we're told. Christmas truly does bring joy, but that joy is found in Jesus. And in the midst of this crazy life, we need to fight for that joy, during the Christmas season and every day.
Do you call Embrace your home? Want to know more about where we are and where we're going as a church? This is the heart of Embrace. As we share what we're excited about, stressed about, and dreaming about, we invite you to be part of the bigger picture, to walk alongside us as we strive to reach the next person for Jesus.
Guest speaker Carlos Whittaker joins us to discuss killing your spiders from his recently released book.
We are not only chosen and changed by God, but we're also called by Him. How does God call us? By name. What are we called to do? To show others His goodness. We were each called out of darkness and into God's marvelous light for a specific purpose. How awesome is that?
God not only chooses us, but He also changes us. Being changed takes work. It takes knowing that it's about a relationship with God, not rules. It takes killing our old selves to be made new in Christ. Being changed isn't easy, but luckily we don't have to do it alone. God changes us. The only question is: do we want to be changed by Him?
We've all probably felt unwanted or left out in life, but have you ever felt the same way when it comes to God? Have you ever wondered if God would want to choose you? This question isn't about who God is, it's about who we are. But here's the truth: God picks us. He's not stuck with us. And we are His, not our own. He does choose us. Every time. The only question is: will you choose Him?
Your past isn't what determines who you are today. Even though there are many times when we don't feel forgiven, Christ says we are completely forgiven. If you don't let your past die, it won't let you live.
God shows us that a fire from him can refine us, it can build us up and help us to live out our purpose. Sometimes when we think about that refining fire we fear it as well, but what if God never intended us to fear the fire? To grow with God and make an impact, we must learn how to enjoy the fire.
It's one thing to start a fire in our hearts, but how do we keep that fire going? How do we set our hearts ablaze? Good fires need oxygen, heat, and fuel to sustain them. We need time with God, community, and a passion for doing something about our faith to keep the fire in our hearts from going out.
There's a fire that exists inside each of us when we're in the presence of God. But how do we ensure that the condition of our heart is right to ignite a sustainable fire and not just flames that flare up only to burn out? We begin by inviting God's presence into our lives, cleaning out sin, and surrendering control. Do you want your heart set on fire?
We donât have to have all the answers about God, we just have to have a story WITH God. How do we share our story with a world who doesnât care to hear it?
Each one of us has a story. And the truth is, God can use our story to change someone else's story. But in order for God to use our story we have to share it, we have to tell the whole town. Who needs to hear our story this week? Or better yet, who needs to hear God's story through our own story?
Description: We all have our own life, our own story. But when we meet Jesus, His story changes ours. We're no longer on our ownâJesus will always be at the center of our story. The question is: what's your story?
Two sons, their father, and how they came to know the extravagance of his love. The story of the prodigal son may be a familiar one, but really, there's more to it. So much more. This is their story. This is Embrace's story. This is our story.
Life was good for the jailer in the book of Acts. He was coasting. The same can often be true for us. An earthquake was needed for the jailer to spiritually wake up. It was a holy a-ha moment. Why shouldn't we wait for the earthquakes in our own lives to realize what's important? Let's dive into the jailer's story to find out more.
Often we wait for the earthquakes in our own lives to spiritually wake us up. To stop us from coasting. To make us realize what's important. The jailer in the book of Acts had to experience a literal earthquake before he realized his need for Jesus. It was a holy a-ha moment. How can we too experience these holy a-ha moments? The jailer's story tells us more.
Ever feel like you're waiting for the earthquakes in life to realize what's important? The jailer in the book of Acts was the same way. A literal earthquake was needed to spiritually wake him up. Why shouldn't we wait on the earthquakes of life? The jailer's story shows us why we need to wake up.
Jesus didn't come for those who think they have it all figured out. He came to throw a party. He came for the sick. The needy. The broken. You and me. And today we're going to look at how he came for a tax collector named Levi.
A plant can't grow without water and neither can we. Â We'll be discussing some practical steps that we can take to water our faith and grow up in Christ.
Knowing Jesus and having a relationship with him is not boring, stale, or passive. Following Christ brings us hope, joy, passion and abundant life!Â
Ever asked why you are here on earth? What is your purpose? Why were you created? These are questions we all struggle with. Join us as we answer these questions together.
God, the gardener, can prune us in three ways: conviction, circumstances, and steps of faith. In these moments when God is pruning us, whether itâs with something big or something small, we can either choose to be faithful to God, allowing Him to prune us, or we can choose to walk away.
