Heard of Citypop? If not, either you're a technophobe or you missed the pandemic (lucky you!). Citypop is a retroactively named style of music that comes from Japan in the late 70s and 80s. This week Emma got to absolutely gush about her hero, the one and only Yoko Ono <3 (Happy Belated Birthday, Aquarius queen)!
Both Emma and Antonella got enlightened by Yoko's concept art book Acorn. Acorn uses abstract instructions to remind it's reader to practice mindfulness, and be aware of the world and people around them. Acorn also features pointillist art throughout the book, done by Yoko, herself. We hope you enjoy and are inspired to explore more of Yoko's wonderful works!

In this episode, Antonella and Emma explore the wacky and wonderful world of Afrofuturism! They discuss everything from early Afrofuturistic music cultivated by the one and only Sun Ra, up to the Afrofuturism influence that we see everyday in movies like Black Panther or in Doja Cat music videos.
This week we delve into SZA's 2017 debut album Ctrl. The 14 track album has influenced a generation of artists and listeners alike, with its confessional lyrics sung in SZA's unique timbre. Aside from the music itself, the album's visual aesthetics also help to create a complete experience. We talk about the music videos, in which you'll hear Emma fangirl over Donald Glover's cameo, as well as SZA's notable fashion moments seen across her videos.
Prepare to be educated!! This week we dived deep into the origins and many facets of the wonderful Art Deco. Art Deco could be classified as an era, a frame of mind, but most importantly: it's an aesthetic! We were clearly very excited when recording this episode seeing as it is almost an hour long! This episode is about Richard Ayoade's 2010 film "Submarine". The film follows a peculiar boy named Oliver Tate, who tries to balance his first relationship while simultaneously saving his parent's marriage. We analyze the story, and the many visual tools that Ayoade uses to enhance this experience.

Looking at the fashion, music and culture of these aesthetics who developed on the app TikTok, they look at how these trends are impacted by the past and how they impact everyday culture now.
Emma wishes she could write this title in a cool mod font. Emma also wishes that she could've kept her cool through this episode. At least she successfully converted Antonella into a mod.
