The ability to regulate one’s behavior is arguably the ultimate life skill. When we model this for our children, we set them up for a lifetime of success.
But dysregulation manifests differently for children and adults, making it challenging for us to respond appropriately. When our child is in the middle of a meltdown and nothing is working, we often feel helpless and resort to counterproductive measures.
In today’s episode, Bridget discusses dysregulation and why it is the root of all challenging behaviors. She explains how understanding dysregulation can solve many of our parenting challenges, how to spot and deal with dysregulation in ourselves and our kids, and what to avoid when doing so.
Topics Include:
- Helping kids build regulatory skills
- How dysregulation differs in children and adults
- Behaviors that exacerbate and perpetuate dysregulation
- Training the brain's response to challenges
- Modeling regulatory behavior for our kids

I also discuss my understanding (or sometimes lack there of) of others pain, and suggest to you ways to take similar action so we can change the landscape of our world, the way we treat others, and culminate a new history for humanity.

Many of us are paralyzed by our fears. If we can find ways to explore them, get curious about them, then we actually can practice more peace of mind. We are in troubling times, that is fostering a lot of fear. In this episode I describe ways to follow your fear, get curious about your fear, and break free of limitation that fears may propose in your mind.
This time in our lives is requiring us to be incredibly flexible. We are having to live life in a completely different way. Which means we have to adapt and change, even when we don't want to. I personally hate having to be flexible, because being inflexible I perceive "I can control" or defy "uncertainty". None of this is actually true. In fact, as a human I am more capable of change than in other creature on the planet. So how do when lean into flexibility and allow ourselves to be fully free in the current landscape? Find out on this new episode.

I just recently became a parent and I, like many others, am constantly struck by how all the "unconditional love" cliches and "greatest adventure yet" talk is so true. It really got me thinking that without this brand new form of inspiration in my life, where would I actually be? Perhaps more scared than I already am, or more depressed because of the new reality?
Regardless, she brings so much light to the darkness. Kids have always done this in my life. I wanted to do a podcast on how they are our true heroes of this time. Rolling with the punches, amusing us with how they see the world, and even offer us some internal wisdom from time to time. They are truly powerful beings that we do not always recognize their strength.

Who could use an emotional break? Right? We have all been riding the waves of this crazy time and even those who pride ourselves in the ability to process feelings fall off the wagon sometimes. We are human so this is bound to happen. We get overwhelmed, we reach our limits, and sometimes we just want to give up. Sometimes life is just hard, and it is important for us to know that it ok to avoid, distract and just flat out take a break from our feelings some times.
I share with you my personal experience this week, of not wanting to podcast and the meltdown that followed. And how reality struck that I too, the emotional powerhouse I am, needed to engage in some healthy distraction.
Enjoy!
As we all search for a new normal, our emotions have potential to be hijacked. We have spent a significant amount of time feeling uncomfortable, scared, overwhelmed, and on and on, and now more than ever we are craving to feel "happy." Marketing and advertising companies know this. In the coming weeks, they will be using billions of dollars to try to get us to believe that we are "fine." In other words, gaslighting will be alive and well. It would be tragic if we as a society opt to ignore these past two months and how it has effected us, changed us.
In this episode I feature Prepare for the Ultimate Gaslighting an article by Julio Gambuto. The article can be found here https://forge.medium.com/prepare-for-the-ultimate-gaslighting-6a8ce3f0a0e0 In this article Juilio does an magnificent job of warning us of what is to come. I share his ideas in this episode and offer ideas on why having our feelings of this time hijacked does not lead us to a better world.

Life has been anything but normal lately. At some point we need to decide what our "new normal" is going to look like. As with most change our beings are irritating by having to do such thing and we often gravitate to the life we new before, not the life we have now. We can be empowered around defining this new life if we know how. In this episode I talk about 4 key ways to improve your transition into the new normal. Ways to feel empowered and accepting about what life looks like in the wake of the pandemic. I share my own experiences with defining this in motherhood, business and so on. Enjoy.

We are all having a collective experience right now. It may not be exactly the same for each of us, but is important that we are sharing in a what can be called a "collective trauma." Trauma deeply agitates our nervous system, which requires us to spend more time tending to our emotional state to stay regulated. Simultaneously the marketing for "transformation" "motivation" and to have some mega life change during quarantine is all over the place. This propaganda is dangerous. It can leave us feeling like we need to "do" instead of "be" during this difficult time. In this podcast, I discuss a trauma psychologist's perspective on this shared experience and offering suggestion to better cope with our emotions are we continue to ride the waves.

I think we are all sick about talking about the VIRUS. Yet, we are all fixated in the hysteria. Our focus on the hysterics is a great distraction from being called to the bigger moment, the lesson, or the new perspective. Oprah says, "crisis arrives because it has something to teach us." Yet, this teaching moment does not protect us from discomfort. In fact, it often increases it. The lesson may not always be what we want to learn, but allows us to become more resilient to our life experiences and that is the true gift. So this week let's open our eyes to what is around us, what we are experiencing, and what the true lesson is.

The new year always bring a wide array of expectations, commitments, and perhaps resolutions. We are bombarded with the external expectations to set out to do something "Great" or "make this the best year yet." The reality is most of us get to February and have jumped ship on whatever that something was. The reason this is because having pressure around expectations and commitments doesn't work.
In this episode I teach how to create INTENTIONS. An approach that is much more personal, profound, and realistic. Intentions won't leave you tired or disappointed, rather than have the power to really build us up, support us and carry us through the entire year. Welcome to the holiday season. You either love it or you hate it. Regardless where you fall this time of year tends to come with a lot of expectations. Those in which we put on ourselves or those in which put on each other. This time of year can lead to stress, disappointments and let downs. Come on, we all "lose it" every once in awhile. Whether it be at work, at home or in the privacy of your own experience, it happens. And even if there haven't been other spectators to your frustration, we often find ourselves feeling ashamed, sad, exhausted and wishing we would have handled it differently. So if this is a fact of life how do we deal with?
In this episode I talk about the 2 Phases of "Losing it" and provide you with clear guidance of how to cope before and after. This episode is sure to reduce your fears, worries and shame around losing your cool.
Pain and discomfort are clearly not a desirable experience. Yet so often the reason we find them to be so challenging is because we make it far more complicated in our mind, than if we were just to experience it. Pain and Discomfort are factors of life, and yet we try so hard to avoid and distract. This avoidance and distraction often leads to more pain and discomfort.
In this episode, I use the metaphor of Child Birth as a way to relay the importance and possibility that pain and discomfort provide. This lens is immensely useful if you have had a child birth experience, are approaching one, or even have just thought about what it might be like to give birth... probably painful! I diffuse your misconceptions about pain and make strong suggestions for how to increase your tolerance, move towards discomfort and reap the many benefits of this process. Turns out our pain and discomfort often results in transformative moments.

Every think that maybe you are just not totally wired to change? You may be on to something here. There are a lot of factors that go into our ability to have massive transformation in our lives. We often think we want something to be different, yet haven't really fully explored if that is even a possibility for us.
In this episode I talk about our capacity to transform. What factors play into this? How our brain tends to respond? And what we need to enact the transformation that we say we desire? I believe that the ability to transform anything in our life is available to us all. We just need to get smarter than ourselves in discovering what opposition might be up against us in making those changes. This episode is the first step.
Have you ever taken a good look at the people who are in your life? Are they supportive? or critical? Surrounding ourselves with individuals who are supportive of our feelings, experiences, dreams and desires is crucial to our human experience. We need to have the "right" people on our bus if we want to achieve our goals and follow our dream.
When the wrong people take up space in our life it becomes toxic. There voice becomes our voice and being able to focus on what is most important to us is very hard. In this episode I help you determine if you have the right people on your bus and if not how to get them. If you get people in the right seats in your life, you will be unstoppable.

The greatest risks reap the biggest reward. They also come with a whole lot of fear. This fear often keeps us from wanting to take greater risks in our lives. What if you could take risk and feel like it wasn't even about the reward? Rather, it was about the experience of getting to overcome challenge, deepen your relationship to yourself and to grow. Then perhaps a risk wouldn't be so bad. Risks are crucial to your evolution and yet are so hard to confront. Part of the Brave Being culture is stepping into our personal empowerment and being able to communicate our feelings in relationship. This skill could be considered assertiveness. Our ability to be assertiveness is necessary in reflecting our emotional experience, internal world and experiences in relationship. Often we take a passive approach because we fear how other will respond or react. In doing this we miss out on a fundamental opportunity to not only practice assertiveness but also CONNECTEDNESS.
In this episode I talk about how to be more assertive (not to be confused with aggressive) and how to truly reflect our emotional experience in relationship to feel seen, heard, and understood. Being more assertiveness drive our personal empowerment, deepens our connection to self and ultimately can enhance our interpersonal relationships.

Did you know that most of what we communicate is NONVERBAL. That's right! Our energy plays a huge part in how we communicate, connect, and engage with others. The crazy thing though is that we often get hooked on words and language and forget to assess what a persons behavior is actually trying to communicate to us.
In this episode I talk about the importance of non verbal communication and give you exact tools to be able to deepen your own understanding of what is being communicated to you besides just language. This can be so powerful in increasing our sustainability, emotional connection, and relationships.
We talk a lot about having a connection to your emotional experience, but where exactly do we find our emotional experience? And what's the point of it all? Well, the more we deepen our connection to our heart the more we gain access to our True Self. Our true self is our essence, our emotional center, our place to access dreams, desires, purpose. It is crucial on our life's path to connect to our heart.
Often it is our mind that gets in the way of deepening our connection to our heart center. Our mind most certainly is responsible for not allowing us to connect to our emotions. This episode allows us to identify these two centers and how they operate in our lives. Neither one is better than the other, they both have a purpose. This episode we clarify how to get these two forces to work together. In working together we are able to have the most optimal life experience possible. ENJOY!

We all want more time. Ask anyone what they have been up to and they probably will reply with something like... "busy!" See getting more time doesn't mean we need more hours in the day, it means we need to manage our MIND. Our mind is what consumes most of our time and most of our energy. We are often thinking about anything but what is occurring in real time. When we step out of our reality we are sacrificing time and energy.
Our adult brain really struggles with mind management. To have a relationship with our emotions mind mastery is absolutely necessary. I hear it all the time from my adults clients that they don't have time to "feel" because they are so "busy." When in fact there mind is carried away with things that are not even relevant to there life at that moment. It all can be rather simple too. Find out how in this episode on the mind, time and how to get more of it.
Have you ever thought about the first assigned role you had in your life? The one that was given to you after birth.... you were either a daughter or a son. Often in our adulthood we forget about this first assignment and the crucial foundational components it created in our lives. In this episode I share my own reflections on being a daughter, what it's taught me, and how it is impacting my journey into a new role, motherhood.
This episode invites you to also reflect on the teachings of your childhood and the roles that we often abandon as we step into being parents, busy jobs, or active communities. Our first roles in life provide so much insight on how we got to where we are today and even more insight on defining our identity for the future.
