Novaskill administers the Indigenous Advancement Strategy on behalf of the Australian Government. They have specialist staff that promote and assist indigenous job seekers with employment, work experience and education experiences.
With a network of employers, Novaskill can provide coaching, mentoring, work experience, post job support and customised training to eligible indigenous job seekers.

Whilst there are many organisations out there that are taking the right steps to implement cultural awareness in your workplace, sometimes it can be challenging to know where to start.
Maxima is a not-for-profit, community-oriented organisation that has supporting people in their pursuit of meaningful work for 35+ years.
Maxima places Indigenous trainees and apprentices with a variety of host employers across the country, including national organisations such as Australia Post, Qantas and major banks and local government.
Maxima is also a leading provider of specialist training and employment programs for Indigenous jobseekers.

Can you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up? Or perhaps what your first job was and how it’s changed over the last 15-20 years? It’s almost impossible to remember a day in the office not relying on email and websites. Even jobs like transport and manufacturing have already been impacted by the growth in technology – and that trend is going to continue.
So, what does that mean for you? Perhaps not too much, as long as your job doesn’t change too dramatically over the next few years. But what about your kids? If technology continues to change and adapt, then so must the educational pathways we offer young people to create opportunities and improve their working lives today and into the future.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) is a crucial pathway to provide this, and it’s of vital importance that we support school-aged young people and school leavers so that they access clear information about VET and what a VET-based career can offer. As parents, you are in a fantastic position to assist your children to consider this pathway.
In this episode, we are going to bust some common misconceptions around the VET pathway, and support parents to help their kids get a leg up in their career.

The Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships Information Service (AATIS) has release a one-stop-shop for anyone considering an Australian Apprentices – The Australian Apprenticeship Schools Guide.
The guide, launched in a National Careers Week Webinar, is a free resource perfect for careers advisers who want to discuss Vocational Education and Training pathway with their students and provides information on the different career outcomes, training courses and general information preparing individuals on what to expect throughout their apprenticeship.
“We wanted something that could give them a basic understanding of apprenticeships and that they could use to have career conversation with students,” said Aditi Narayanan, AATIS Marketing Manager.

As the workforce continues to evolve, so must the educational pathways that lead young Australians into it. Traditionally, those who want to work in business of technology have either undertaken a traineeship or a university degree. But with thanks too many organisations, that’s beginning to change with the emergence of the ‘Higher Apprenticeship’.
Suzi Hewlett, Director of the Skills Reform Unit at PWC, knows all too well the benefits that a higher apprenticeship can bring to both individuals and workplaces through their Higher Apprenticeship Program.

Since March 1, 2020, many young Australians have lost their apprenticeship or traineeship due to covid-19. Whilst there are many incentives available for organisations to retain employees, it has still impacted businesses all across Australia.
The National Apprentice Employment Network (NAEN) has been supporting Apprentices and Trainees from small businesses who recently lost their jobs, by connecting them with a network of employers across the country through the Apprentice and Trainee Re-engagement Register.
Di Dayhew, the CEO of NAEN, knows all too well how important support is for Australian Apprentices throughout their Apprenticeship journey and the challenges they may face when trying to secure employment in their sector.

Ron Maxwell, CEO of Verto knows all too well how important diverse hiring and retaining apprentices were prior to the pandemic – and shares a timely reminder that it remains crucial for both business and community sustainability.
Ron has recently released a blog post, Why you should maintain diverse hiring practices through COVID-19 and beyond, detailing the positive impact of these hiring practices for individuals, businesses and communities.
Ron also knows, that when it comes to economic downturn, apprentices are often the first to be let go.
However, he notes, it is crucial organisations do all that they can to retain as many apprentices as possible. The skill shortage has been an issue facing Australia long before COVID-19, and the rising unemployment rate could have a lasting impact across the skills sector.

AATIS asks Scott Collom, from the Young Workers Centre, 'Am I being treated fairly?'. In this episode, Scott breaks down the difference between 'unfair' and illegal workplace practices, some common issues Apprentices and young workers face and how to manage workplace issues - particularly related to Covid-19 issues.
