The clash of metal rang out as T-Bone's axe met the stranger's blade, a hidden sword now gleaming in the moonlight. Sparks flew, illuminating the fierce determination and sweat beaded in T-Bone's eyes. Ty Fighter circled around, seeking an opening, his scimitar trained on the enemy. Fissure Floodplain, Kutchek number two henchman, moved with a fluidity that spoke of years of combat, his every motion calculated and deadly. As the two warriors fought with primal fury, the Floodplain’s laughter cut through the chaos, a chilling reminder of their peril.
In the midst of the fray, a deafening roar erupted from the darkness beyond. The ground trembled beneath their feet as a massive, armored vehicle, bristling with weapons and adorned with grotesque trophies, thundered into view. Kutcheck’s war machine, a behemoth that had laid waste to countless challengers, bore down upon them. Floodplain leapt back, his face twisting into a mocking sneer. "You fight well, but this is where your legend ends," he spat, retreating to the shadows. T-Bone and Ty Fighter turned to face the oncoming juggernaut, their hearts pounding. As the war machine's cannons locked onto them, the roar of its engines drowned out all other sound, leaving the two barbarians staring down their doom with unyielding resolve. In the desolate, post-apocalyptic world of Hyronia, where rotting metal and crumbling cities lay in twisted ruins, two unlikely heroes emerged from the shadows. Ty Fighter and T-bone, fierce barbarians with an unbreakable bond, had returned battered and bruised from a most unusual adventure. With the shimmering aura of time travel Kirby dots surrounding them, they had journeyed to the month of January 1980 and returned clutching Star Trek the Motion Picture Happy Meal toys, their clobbered brows adorned with an inexplicable joy. It was a desperate act to find a means of restoring hope to their ravaged land.
The people of Hyronia had known only destruction and despair for generations, but legends spoke of a mystic seer with the power to manipulate the threads of time itself. In their quest for salvation, Ty Fighter and T-Bone sought the counsel of, Freya the enigmatic oracle, a figure cloaked in the veils of mystery and ageless wisdom.
Upon entering the mystic seer's sanctum, the room was filled with incense and the soft hum of arcane energies and elliptical machines. The seer, her eyes veiled in shadows, revealed to the time-traveling barbarians the true purpose of their journey. The Happy Meal baubles were not the relics they needed; instead, they must return to February 1980, a month shrouded in secrets, and retrieve another artifact. Welcome to the very first HOLIDAY themed episode, featuring one of MY FAVORITE Native movies of all time, Pow Wow Highway.
In this episode, Turtle does a deep dive on one of the most often quoted, iconic buddy road trip films that very few people have ever seen. It features two of the most unforgettable, realistic performances in independent film history, Buddy Red Bow (A. Martinez) and Philbert Bono (Gary Farmer). We talk about the importance of this film and how it relates to contemporary Native portrayals, the history of Protector, the war pony as told in the novel, and even a shirtless Rodney A. Grant just for the hoktes.
The film is also notable for the on screen debut of Wes Studi, and includes cameos from Graham Greene, John Trudell, and Floyd Red Crow Westerman, just to name a few.
