“This is terrible, absolutely unfair, I hate my life and I wish I was never born.”

Sounds familiar? Does that seem like something you have heard of or said before? Perhaps worse, maybe not as intense, either way, we can all relate to moments of pain, disappointments and anguish we wished to never have experienced.

Q

  • What was your most recent disappointment about?
  • How did you feel about it?
  • How are you handling it?

This type of reaction is only natural as it’s a part of our natural human tendency to help us cope with the difficulties in front of us. Our defence mechanisms are triggered at the sight of hardship, we try ever so hard to steer clear of them, we run away from uncomfortable situations and we do everything in our power to only have the outcomes we desire because why shouldn’t we right?

Well, there’s probably more to it than that. Maybe, there are benefits to having things like this happen, perhaps the reasons we don’t get what we want are a lot bigger than we could comprehend. Could there even be an opportunity to develop character?
