The South African Federation of Trade Unions says it is saddened by the exclusion of organised labour representatives in the National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. The council was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa and it is mandated to provide strategic leadership on the elimination of gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, SAFTU's Nontobeko Luzipho who is the Deputy General Secretary said they do not believe that those who have been appointed have enough knowledge of how women are victimised in the workplace and they hope that the President will reconsider his decision.
Employees of the University of South Africa have reached a breaking point due to intense workload and other unfavourable working conditions at the institution. This has been revealed by a survey conducted by Solidarity which says it has called on the government to urgently intervene. Solidarity’s Anique Niemand who is the organisation's Network Organiser for Professional Sector has told Nghamula Chauke that some employees are already suffering from mental breakdown and one of the solutions that can be implemented is to have the institution providing extra support to lessen the workload on employees.
The Winter initiations season has claimed 43 lives of initiates. The Deputy Chairperson of the Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Rights Commission George Mahlangu spoke to Nghamula Chauke and said that cases vary per province from initiates who died from dehydration while others were part of illegal initiation schools which were non-compliant with safety regulations. Mahlangu says the commission has launched an independent investigative mechanism, known as the Section 7 Committee, to investigate the deaths and ensure accountability for any violations linked to the initiation season.
The South African Social Security Agency in Limpopo has admitted that there was a time when its internal systems were compromised and that progress has been made to ensure that there are no corrupt activities by its employees moving forward. This conversation comes after the agency released a media statement informing the public that four officials from the Nebo Local Office in Sekhukhune have been dismissed following their alleged involvement in fraudulent activities amounting to R33 million in social grants. The South African Local Government Association in Limpopo says the developments around the National Treasury temporarily withholding the July 2026 equitable share transfers to selected municipalities in the province and across the country is a bitter pill to swallow. SALGA says municipalities also need ensure that they practice fiscal discipline and ensure that public money is properly managed. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, SALGA chairperson in Limpopo, councillor John Mpe says there are some interventions that have been put in place to assist the affected municipalities.
The Democratic Alliance in Limpopo has told Nghamula Chauke that it welcomes the precautionary suspension of the Limpopo Legislature Secretary, Dr. Timothy Maake following allegations of irregularities including alleged procurement scandal of R12.5 million paid to a law firm with alleged family ties to him. The party is calling on the establishment of an Ad Hoc Committee to probe the allegations of irregularities which occurred during Dr. Maake's tenure. The University of Mpumalanga has denounced the campaign spearheaded by some academics that suggest that the institution is responsible for the death of one of its lecturers Dr Mpho Motseki who is said to have succumbed to depression. Fellow academic and Motseki family spokesperson Professor Kgothatso Shai told Nghamula Chauke that the late academic was subjected to bullying and unfair labour practices in the institution. University of Mpumalanga spokesperson Tlangelani Ubisi says it is unfortunate that Professor Shai and others are peddling untrue information around this matter which is viewed as uncultured.
The MEC for Transport and Community safety in Limpopo Violet Mathye has issued a stern warning to road users, this as the department launched the Easter Road Safety Arrive Alive Campaign. Mathye says the province will deploy law enforcement officers at all the major routes in the province and there will be cameras all over that will capture those who are speeding. She told Nghamula Chauke that this time around; officers will show no mercy to those who are found disobeying the rules of the road.
Limpopo government says by the end of June, it will be done with its project of building a home for the mother of twins who were born conjoined. The Premier of Limpopo Dr Phophi Ramathuba led a sod-turning ceremony at Navana village under Majeje Tribal Authority, Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality. The twins were born on 28 January 2026 to a 29-year-old mother at Mankweng Tertiary Hospital where they were successfully separated by a team of specialist doctors led by Professor Nyaweleni Tshifularo. Premier Ramathuba has told Nghamula Chauke that she had promised to build a home for the family before the surgery and now she says they will be able to spend Christmas in the home that will also be fully furnished.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Mimmy Gondwe has visited colleges in and around Polokwane as part of the intergovernmental campaign to uncover and shutdown bogus institutions. The deputy minister says these bogus colleges are a complex problem that requires a firm response from every level of government and are linked to criminal activities. In Mankweng, she issued an ultimatum to College of Africa and Pentagon Colleges to comply with government regulations or face closure. This is what she had to say while speaking to Nghamula Chauke:
Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has assured women that the endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in certain brands of sanitary towels and panty liners are normal. He was speaking to Nghamula Chauke after the press briefing that he had with journalists as a response to research conducted by the University of the Free State which found EDCs in 16 popular sanitary products. Motsoaledi says that these EDCs are not new, and they are found literally everywhere even in the foods that are consumed daily.
The Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality John Mpe has attributed the city's water woes to inconsistencies of Lepelle Northern Water in pumping water. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Mpe said that after deliberations with leaders at the department of Water and Sanitation and the Limpopo office of the Premier, the municipality has decided to take legal action against the entity for breach of the level service agreement.

The Greater Giyani Municipality has defended the appointment of Masindi Raliphada as its new Chief Financial Officer. Her appointment has been met with hostility from some residents who are saying the predominantly Tsonga speaking municipality should have appointed a local person. The municipality says it is disappointed in the tribalistic undertones of the criticism. Still on this, the ANC Women's League in Limpopo says tribalism does not have a place in the province and should be condemned as and when it rears its ugly head. Residents of Vuyelani Village in Ba-Phalaborwa Local Municipality say the recent heavy floods have worsened the poor state of service delivery in the area by the municipality. Community members say they have not had water supply since the heavy rains started about three weeks ago and have resorted to buying water. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, community representative Simon Seruba said pipes have been washed away and the municipality is failing to provide relief through water tankers. Still on this, Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Mayor Merriam Malatji has acknowledged the three-week water shortage and says the bulk pipeline at the water Selati River has been damaged due to severe flooding but officials are working on creating a bypass as a temporary measure.
Five regions of the ANC in Limpopo have proposed to pursue unity towards the elective conference in March. The regions have decided to go with Dr Phophi Ramathuba as the chairperson and John Mpe as her deputy as part of a top 5 leadership. This as the party says it is avoiding a situation that will divide its membership post the elective conference. Nghamula Chauke spoke to Norman Mashabane ANC PEC member and regional spokesperson Peter Ngobeni to get clarity on these developments.
Following his oversight to the Greater Giyani Municipality, the Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr Namane Dickson Masemola has told Nghamula Chauke that COGTA together with Limpopo government and local municipalities, will work together to assess the damage caused by floods and compile a comprehensive report that will be sent to Treasury for funding to rebuild infrastructure that has been damaged by floods.
Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality John Mpe has spoken to Nghamula Chauke about the decommissioned Seshego borehole which was found to have high turbidity. The municipality has since appointed an independent private laboratory to conduct tests, prompted by allegations of water contamination and reported cases of diarrhoea. Mpe has assured the public that water in Seshego and Polokwane is safe for consumption.He says they have resolved to install a new package water purification plant to treat the water and to ensure proper treatment before water enters the reticulation network.
In a letter sent to the ANC national office asking for permission to step aside from his duties, Limpopo ANC Chairperson Stan Mathabatha cites unethical behaviour that goes against the party values in relation to the conference of the Vhembe and Waterberg regions, however political commentator Mbhazima Shilowa told Nghamula Chauke that Mathabatha is coming across as factional because as a leader why would he single out only 2 regions whereas all 5 regional conferences were marred by grievances. Still on this, the ANC Youth League in Limpopo, through its chair Faith Sebopela, also communicated with Chauke and expressed its sadness over the decision taken by Mathabatha adding that the party is in its renewal process and does not expect this kind of behaviour.
Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, the Mogalakwena Local Municipality Mayor Ngoako Tauetsoala condemned the social media posts purporting that they were written by municipal manager, Morris Maluleka claiming that he made corrupt transactions of millions of rands to companies linked to Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba and COGHSTA MEC Basikopo Makamu. Tauetsoala says Maluleka does not have a Facebook account and that both Premier Ramathuba and MEC Makamu do not have close relations with the municipal manager.
Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, MEC for Limpopo Transport and Community Safety Violet Mathye expressed optimism when she said that the department leadership has launched a task team that will look into issues of violence within the taxi industry. This comes after weeks of violent altercations between several taxi associations in Lebowakgomo which affected operations in surrounding areas. The family of the late Thorisho Themane is not happy with news that one of their child's killers is applying for parole. This as the family says the accused,Kgothatso Teffo has only served 3 of his ten year sentence. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Thorisho's brother Karabo Themane says they feel that the justice system is failing to recognise their pain, especially looking at how Thorisho lost his life. Themane says as a family, they suspect that the pain of losing Thorisho in such a brutal manner is what has led to their mom's untimely death.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mpho Kwinika, who is the former president of the South African Police Union, has decided to speak out about the retaliation he faced after helping to uncover irregularities in a R45-million police tender for a cellphone surveillance device commonly referred to as a “cellphone grabber.” He says he hopes the Commission of Inquiry into the criminal justice system will accommodate him after being forced out of the police for exposing tender fraud. Executive Mayor of Polokwane municipality John Mpe has denied allegations of nepotism. This comes after he announced that unemployed residents who participated in Nelson Mandela Day activities will be considered for the Expanded Public Works Programme. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, EM Mpe said that the individuals referred to, during his Mandela Day address were simply acknowledged for their voluntary service and were registered in the municipality’s unemployment database. He adds that this registration does not guarantee employment, but places them into the system for consideration, subject to qualification and compliance with all existing EPWP recruitment criteria.
The National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers in Limpopo has lambasted the Health department in Limpopo together with the security company that is appointed to provide safety services at the Ga-Chuene clinic. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, NUPSAW Limpopo secretary Ntata Sekgota said that the abduction and sexual assault of two nurses at the clinic could have been avoided if the department and the security company could have ensured safer working conditions.

The Limpopo Health department together with the South African Medical Association Trade Union in Limpopo have condemned an incident that recently took place at Musina hospital whereby a doctor was assaulted by a civilian. Both the department and SAMATU have raised concerns on the safety of health care professionals saying that communities have to understand that the safety of health workers is in their hands and that attacking the very professionals will only affect them(patients) as and when they require medical attention. While the ANC Youth League in Limpopo agrees with the notion that prevention is better than cure, it is however disappointed in the manner at which the food poisoning matter is being handled by the Limpopo Education department. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, ANCYL Provincial Secretary Oliver Mabunda said it can never be right that South African hawkers are the ones taking the flak for developments around recent hospitalisation of learners who are alleged to have consumed poisonous food stuff. Mabunda is urging government to look into the root cause of the problem and deal with illegal immigrants who are operating spaza shops.
The Limpopo Department of Education has decided to suspend the sale of food in and around schools in the province. This comes after the death of a 13 year old who is alleged to have eaten snacks from a local shop. Limpopo Education Media Liaison Officer Matome Moremi Taueatsoala told Nghamula Chauke that this is a temporary measure as the department and other stakeholders are still trying to navigate around these developments, adding that it is a necessary step to take to prevent the loss of more lives.
Former unionist and Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa has shared his fondest memories with Nghamula Chauke about the late Reserve Bank Governor Tito Mboweni. Shilowa who described Mboweni as his Maseve, said the late Finance Minister was a hard worker and a disciplinarian. The Great North Transport has assured pension beneficiaries who once worked for the company that their grievances are being addressed and will be finalized soon. The pensioners staged a night vigil in Polokwane in the premier's office, complaining that they still have not received their pension payment after years of service. GNT Spokesperson Leo Gama told Nghamula Chauke that the process of processing all the documents is taking longer however everyone will get what is due to them.
Issues of administration at the embattled Thabazimbi Municipality have resulted in the Limpopo government appointing an administrator who is expected to breathe life into this municipality which has seen the dissolution of its council recently. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs MEC Basikopo Makamu said the administrator is acting on his behalf and that he is expected to ensure stability in the municipality over a period of six months. Makamu added that there will be meetings regularly to keep track of the developments in the municipality.
Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Jerry Maseko says the Limpopo Arts and Culture Council was properly constituted and is inclusive of individuals who specialise in various sectors and not just the creative sector. This after chairperson of the Limpopo Artists Movement Mphoza Mashabela opposed the appointment of the council, saying they have no hope in its ability to adequately address pressing issues in the creative industry. Outspoken political analyst Prince Mashele has told Nghamula Chauke that the resignation of Floyd Shivambu from the party is a signal that the end is near. Shivambu has joined a new political home, the MK Party under the leadership of former President Jacob Zuma. Mashele says the party will not perform well in the upcoming local and national elections in 2026 and 2029 respectively. He says many people are beginning to lose confidence in the EFF.
Speaking to Nghamula Cahuke, Psychologist Granny Hlongwane who is a Specialist Wellness Counsellor says unlike women, men do not have much pressure in terms of impressing the in-laws. Hlongwane says what is needed from them is only the financial ability to take care of the wife and the kids, if any. She says usually men get respect and recognition from their in laws if they are financially stable.

The Democratic Nurses Organisation of South Africa in Limpopo says in honour of nurses, government should look into employing more nurses in clinics and hospitals across the province as most of these facilities are short staffed. The organisation's Jacob Molepo was responding to the commemoration of International Nurses day that falls on the 12th of May. Molepo also reiterated that it is sad that to this day nurses are working in dilapidated infrastructure which also affect service delivery to patients. Mapisa-Nqakula has resigned as the speaker after her legal bid to interdict her arrest was dismissed by the court. Analysts also believed she couldn't continue in her role as speaker because of the charges she is facing as she couldn't expect support from her political party.
The Limpopo Department of Education says parents are still in the dark about the issue of unregistered private and independent schools. The department says anyone who runs an independent school should register with its office of the HOD. According to chief education specialist from the department, Marwala Rasethaba when speaking to Nghamula Chauke, parents who want to home-school their children are required to register with the department and submit the progress assessments of their children timeously.
Urogynaecologist Dr Dakalo Muavha says there are multiple factors contributing to a lot of unplanned pregnancies especially in black communities. Joining Nghamula Chauke in studio, Dr Muavha was answering questions from 2 of Capricorn Talk listeners who said suggested that, black families do not do family planning. Dr Muavha said inconsistent use of family planning methods are some of the contributing factors. There are also myths about the usage of contraceptives that dissuade people from using them.
Transport and Community Safety MEC in Limpopo Florence Radzilani says all critical posts in the department have been filled especially for positions that were budgeted for. Radzilani told Nghamula Chauke that once the budget has been passed, the department must make sure that it is implemented to ensure that when it is time to account, there are no difficulties. She also applauded the Treasury Department for the financial allocation towards Gateway Airports Authority Limited of a R74 million that is earmarked for capital expenditure for maintenance and repairs.
Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Parks Tau has told Nghamula Chauke that they have as government mobilised a range of partners that they can work with in the local government to find solutions to challenges faced by municipalities. Speaking about a meeting with the Sekhukhune District Municipality, Tau said the meeting looked at interventions that can be made to find support from private entities. He says they also reached out to mining houses in Sekhukhune area to contribute to resolving some of the water challenges.
The Department of Water and Sanitation has confirmed that there is a shortage of water in the Musina area. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, the DG of the department Dr Sean Phillips said there has been several disruptive protests in the Musina area with the department looking at possible interventions for a while. Dr Phillips says that signing the MOU between South Africa and Zimbabwe to ease the Musina water woes is the most cost-effective route especially because the project is expected to be completed in 2 years.
MEC for Agriculture in Limpopo Thabo Mokone says during the past year, the Department increased participation of producers in the integrated value chain through support of 8700 producers across various agriculture commodity groups. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Mokone said that to date the department managed to support 13 298 producers across various agriculture commodity groups and in the coming financial year, 2024/25, the Department has targeted the increased participation of producers through the integrated value chain.
Former ActionSA Premier Candiate Kgoshi Letsiri Phaahla has left the party to join the uMkhoto We Sizwe. Phaahla told Nghamula Chauke that he had to resign due to lack of resources for campaigning adding that at some point he was told that the party has no money but later found out that it is not the truth. He says he will now dedicate his time to serve the constituency of traditional leaders while in the MK party.
Council on Higher Education has said that it is difficult to defend the exorbitant salaries and perks for executives at South Africa's universities. This comes after findings that at least half of the Vice Chancellors at public universities earned well above R4 million in 2019. This has angered the Socialist Youth Movement saying this is nothing but greed. Socialist Youth Movement’s Zaki Mamdoo had this to say when he was engaging Nghamula Chauke.

Health MEC in Limpopo Dr Phophi Ramathuba says she s happy with the progress made by the department and other stakeholders to ensure that all unemployed health workers are absorbed in the system. The 2030 Reading Panel led by former Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has revealed that 82% of Grade 4 children across the country cannot read for meaning. During the release of the report, Dr Mlambo-Ngcuka said that when it comes to reading, there is a need for massive investment so that the country can break the back of the problem so that it does not persist. The former chairperson of the Democratic Alliance Youth structure in Limpopo Tiego Thotse spoke to Nghamula Chauke in the aftermath of his resignation from the party and the roles he held. Chief Director for planning and implementation at Department of Basic Education James Ndlebe has reiterated the call by Minister Angie Motshekga to have parents participating in the upcoming school governing body elections. Ndlebe says parents and the community needs to be supportive and involved in the activities of their schools. He says every school must elect their SGB in a year cycle. The elections will be held at all schools across the country from March 1st-31st.
The office of the ANC provincial secretary in Limpopo says it is concerned with the reports they have received from the Makhado municipality. Reports from the DA in the municipality have accused the speaker Gumani Mukwevho who is an ANC deployee of failing to run the council fairly. The DA has since decided to launch a motion of no confidence against Mukwevho which they believe they have support of ANC members who are unhappy with Mukwevho's performance. Commissioner Tshepo Madlingozi from the South African Human Rights Commission has told Nghamula Chauke that there was no evidence to support a link between former President Jacob Zuma's arrest to the July unrests. Madlingozi was communicating the findings of the July Unrests report which was released on recently. He has also indicated that there are recommendations that SAPS and other bodies to conduct further imvestigations beyond the scope of the Human Rights Commission's office.
The Limpopo Human Rights Commission provincial manager Victor Mavhidula told Nghamula Chauke that there has been progress made by the department of education in Limpopo. Mavhidula says although there are still some challenges that need to be addressed, generally many schools have kick started the 2024 academic year on the right footing. He says past challenges of delayed stationery delivery in schools have been overcome as most learners have already received their learning materials, however the biggest concern for now is the issue of overcrowding in some schools. The commission was on a school readiness monitoring program as schools reopened.
Some parents in all the Limpopo districts are still frustrated with the placement of their children for the academic year 2024. Many have decided to camp outside the head offices of the department in Polokwane saying they will not rest until their children are accommodated at the schools of their choice. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Education Spokesperson Mike Maringa said the process is still ongoing and is expected to be finalised soon, adding that there are challenges that they are still busy addressing.
The president of the South African Emergency Personnel's Union, Mpho Mpogeng has told Nghamula Chauke that the union is surprised that the Limpopo Health department is reacting with shock to the incident that happened in the Sekhukhune district. This after an EMS crew from Philadelphia hospital was attacked by robbers while responding to an emergency call that happened at Kgobokwane Village. Mpogeng says this problem will never stop until the department prioritises the safety of EMS personnel. He says the department has ignored the calls by the union to have cameras installed in ambulances.
Both Okkie Terblanche, the DA Shadow Deputy Minister of Police and Criminologist Prof. Kholofelo Mabena Rakubu concur that there are elements of recklessness on how some in the security cluster handle safety of firearms and ammunition. This after the security cluster ministers revealed that more than 400 government-issued firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition have been lost or stolen in the past five years. Rakubu and Terblanche told Nghamula Chauke that there is an urgent need to address this problem which affects the safety of the public as these firearms could be used for criminal activities.
Civil society organisation, Conty Lebepe Foundation has accused leaders of Forum for Limpopo Entrepreneurs to stop using its name to fight internal and external battles. Conty Lebepe from the Foundation has accused FOLE's chairperson, Motinki Mahlo of engaging them under the guise of having information to share which was merely at attempt to gather information to smear provincial MEC's. The provincial secretary of FOLE Siviko Mabunda says Mahlo is no longer with the forum, however Mahlo says Mabunda resigned from the forum that he now leads as chairperson. When speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Mahlo denied the allegations made against him by the Conty Lebepe Foundation.
Health MEC in Limpopo Dr Phophi Ramathuba says her department is set to purchase more ambulances as a way of amplifying service delivery challenges. Ramathuba told Nghamula Chauke that they are addressing challenges that the department had experienced due to shortage of ambulances which was unacceptable. She has refuted allegations that the department was not adding to the fleet but merely parading the same ambulances as new ones. The MEC had earlier in the day handed over a new fleet of ambulances to the Voortrekker hospital emergency centre.
The Road Accident Fund Spokesperson Mclntosh Polela has told Nghamula Chauke that RAF is appalled by the entitlement that some foreign nationals have on how the entity should conduct its business. Polela was explaining RAF's position on the exclusion of foreign nationals regarding them being barred from making claims in the country according to a new bill. He gave an example that no South African national can go to a foreign country and demand to benefit from the purse of some entities in that country. He emphasized that this has nothing to do with discrimination, but certain processes adopted in some countries.
An expert from the National Research Foundation says as part of World Food Day, there is a need to promote the eating of indigenous foods which have proven to be healthy and less expensive. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, National Research Foundation Chair in Food Environments, Nutrition and Health Prof Xikombiso Gertrude Mbhenyane said interventions are needed in the country to ensure the consumption of foods with health benefits. Prof. Mbhenyane has also highlighted her concern that there is a low consumption and sale of indigenous plants in the country, despite their health benefits.
Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, the South African Medical Association Trade Union's General Secretary Dr Cedric Sihlangu expressed concern on the increasing number of bogus health professionals. He says the health department must find ways to curb this problem before it spirals out of control. Dr Sihlangu says it is sad that when these doctors are not found and dealt with legally, poor patients will be the ones to bear the brunt of these corrupt activities.
The mayor of Mogalakwena Municipality Ngoako Taueatsoalo denies that the municipality is having governance issues. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Tauetsoalo said although the municipal assets were on the verge of being auctioned as per the High court order to settle the bill of a service provider, the municipality is still functional. The mayor said the bill has since been settled but there are internal investigations that are still underway. He also took advantage of the set up to also share the municipality's stand on the issue of Municipal Manager Morris Maluleke's appointment which the court has declared to be unlawful.

Nghamula Chauke spoke Pastor Othaniel Maepa of Eternal Life International church who agrees that there are ancestors but says as per the Biblical standards, they are not meant to be worshipped. He says it is however sad that Christians have decided to abandon their culture which is something that should not be condoned.
The Masia Traditional Council has announced its decision to remove Livhuwani Matsila from his position as the leader of HaMatsila village. The traditional council's Head of Communication Abraham Matsila told Nghamula Chauke that Matsila was no longer taking instructions from the Chief and that he would invite high profile dignitaries to the village without the Chief's knowledge. still on this, Matsila's Spokesperson Ambani Thenga said Chief Masia is fighting battles that seek to undermine the leadership of Matsila and that he is spreading malicious and unfounded rumours.
A cultural expert from the University of Limpopo Professor Sekgothe Mogoetjane says it is important for Africans to remember that Heritage month and day is not just about the wearing of colourful cultural themed clothes. Professor Mogoetjane told Nghamula Chauke that there is more to heritage than clothes that some of them are not even cultural clothes as many believe. He has called on Africans to do more research about what heritage is and adds that there is a need to preserve everything that comes with the concept of Heritage.
Residents of Seshego have stopped a newly launched infrastructure project of the Seshego Traffic Circle. Community representative Hani Mafalo told Nghamula Chauke that they were never consulted by the municipality about this project. He further says they demand to be included in the project as community members.
Members of the ANC Sepeke branch under the Norman Mashabane region are accusing REC member who is also the Mayor of Maruleng Municipality Tsheko Musolwa of dividing the party. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Chairperson of the ANC Sepeke Branch Aubrey Pule, said Musolwa is going around using state resources to garner unwarranted support from members. He adds that they have since decided to take this matter up with the powers that be at the region. Still on this, ANC Norman Mashabane Spokesperson Peter Ngobeni said the members' memorandum of grievances has been received and the leadership is still looking into it.
The Limpopo MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs Basikopo Makamu is appealing to members of the community and private sector to assist government in its efforts to ensure that life goes back to normal for displaced fire victims. Makamu told Nghamula Chauke that the fires that ravaged some houses and a lodge in Phalaborwa had devastating effects on the victims. Tributes continue to pour in for the late founder of the IFP and member of parliament Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi who passed on at the age of 95. Nghamula Chauke spoke to Political commentator and Honorary President of Azanian People's Organization Dr Mosibudi Mangena who says Buthelezi will be greatly missed. Dr Mangena told Chauke that while Buthelezi's political legacy was divisive and complex, one of his legacies would be his love of culture and the eagerness to preserve it. The Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality Mamedupi Teffo says she has noted concerns raised by communities under Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality. Teffo visited the municipality as part of the imbizo engagements to listen and resolve service delivery issues faced by communities. She told Nghamula Chauke that community members are complaining about water provision and the installation of smart meters, where most want their historic debts to be erased before accepting the new order of things. Teffo has also raised concerns about the non-payment of municipal services by businesses and some government departments.

Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo has acknowledged that there are serious challenges of water in the Polokwane city and surrounding areas. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, Mahlobo made a commitment that these challenges will soon be a thing of the past. The department is working very closely with Polokwane municipality, Lepelle Northern Water and Limpopo government to ensure that the water challenges are resolved at least by the end of December this year.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe joined Nghamula Chauke to speak about the crime statistics for first quarter of 2023/2024. Economic and political analyst, Khaya Sithole says the findings of the Reserve Bank on the Phala Phala farm theft investigation are surprising. The Reserve bank was investigating whether there were any exchange control violations linked to stolen foreign currency in the president's farm. Solicitor General Fhedzisani Pandelani said the government has paid over R330 million to families who sued the state up to so far. The CONLEF Foundation has accused the Limpopo Department of Health of privatising the pharmaceutical depot. The chairperson of the Foundation, Conty Lebepe says the department has outsourced the running of the facility to a private company, at the cost of 50 million rands. The Limpopo Department of Education is refuting claims by the Economic Freedom Fighters that it is paying 2 salaries for 1 principal position at Seshigo High school. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, the departmental spokesperson Mike Maringa says a former principal who was dismissed successfully legally challenged the department and won a case for his reinstatement. The department has since redeployed him to the district level and has appointed someone else in the principal position during the intervening period. University of Limpopo academics, Dr Tebogo Kekana and Dr Edward Montle argue that the South African judiciary has not transformed adequately in the use of indigenous languages. In their research paper the academics say the courts have an over-reliance in the use of English even in circumstance that would allow indigenous languages. The Auditor General Tsakane Maluleke has revealed that the number of municipalities which obtained clean audits dropped in the financial year 2021/2022. 38 out of 257 municipalities received clean audits, down from 41 in the previous year. In Limpopo it is only Capricorn and Waterberg district municipalities that have received clean audit outcomes. Lepelle Northern Water board Chairperson Dr Nndweleni Mphephu said from the date of the board’s appointment, they have stabilized the organization's finances and improved from a deficit of R44 million to a surplus of R94 million.He says this is because of clean governance and introduction of cost containment measures. The ANC in Limpopo has expressed disappointment over the election of a new mayor in the Lephalale Municipality who is also a member of the party saying Councillor Louisa Shongwe was not supposed to contest her counterpart from the party Aron Mokgetle. The Commission for Gender Equality has raised concerns about DNA tests done on alleged perpetrators who have been positively identified but return negative. The commission says it has observed this trend mostly in Gauteng. The leadership of the Congress of the People is at loggerheads with each other, the factions are led by the President of the party Mosioua Lekota while the other is led by the Deputy President of the party Willie Madisha. Residents under the Ba-Phalabora municipality are facing serious water woes and this has prompted the Democratic Alliance to intervene and write a letter to the municipal Manager Dr Lucas Pilusa to explain these constant water cuts. The DA’s councilor under the municipality Sybrandt de Beer says the party has previously requested the Mopani District Municipality as the water authority to urgently communicate reasons for these developments and has also requested the Ba-Phalaborwa Mayor to inform the public on the status of this water restriction issue, as well as when normal supply will resume. Dr Pilusa has confirmed that they are experiencing water cut challenges however he blames Lepelle Nothern Water for what he calls failure to communicate with stakeholders involved. The Limpopo 2021 matric class pass rate has raised questions about the state of the province's education and what needs to be done to improve. The Commission for Gender Equality says it cannot be right that students and employees are forced to vaccinate as this is suggested by some institutions of higher learning amongst other entities. The commission's spokesperson Javu Baloyi says a new study published in a medical journal details the possible side-effects of the vaccine on menstrual cycle. The Compensation Fund’s Assistant Director Vocational Rehabilitation Ntsoadi Mafa had a conversation with Nghamula Chauke about plans to empower previously employed persons who suffered occupational injuries or diseases which led to permanent disablement. The South African Insurance Associations says there are a set of rules that are designed to ensure that policyholder’s or potential policyholder’s interests are protected when transacting with the non-life or short-term insurance products. SAIA's Mosidi Shomang says the rules detail how insurance company should treat policyholders, product design and rights that policyholders have when purchasing and these rules are legislated as part of the Short-term Insurance Act No: 53 of 1998 under section 55.
The Limpopo MEC for the health department, Dr Phophi Ramathuba says they are engaging liquor retailers in the province to work together in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. She says their move is from the realization that the liquor and entertainment industries are the first ones to be impacted by lockdowns. Dr Phophi Ramathuba told Nghamula Chauke that they want the industry to help them but there are no laws to enforce a ban of sale of alcohol to unvaccinated customers.

Limpopo Progressive Women Movement is calling for the ANC Provincial Executive Committe to give a chance to a politically capable woman to be at the helm of the Polokwane Municipality. The Socio-Economic Rights Institute says it is disappointed in the manner in which the government is treating the families of the Marikana massacre victims. The institute says 9 years later, the government has failed to reach out to the families where the widows of the men who were murdered are still living in abject poverty. Political Analyst Professor Tinyiko Maluleke says little has been done by the government to honor and celebrate the legacy of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke who was the first black woman in South Africa to graduate with a B.sc university degree. Prof Maluleke says there are no T-shirts that bears Maxeke's face yet even in death she continues to inspire hope and confidence in the lives of many people, in particular black women. Constitutional Law Expert and Author Lwando Xaso spoke to Nghamula Chauke abut the importance of understanding matters pertaining to the constitution and how the law works. She said she is embarrassed by young people’s views on legal matters and most of them were exposed during that time when the Constitutional Court imposed a 15-month prison sentence on Former President Jacob Zuma for the contempt of court.
Political analyst Professor Barry Hanyane from North-west University says he concurs with recommendations by the Former deputy chief justice Dikgang Moseneke that the Local Government elections which were supposed to be held in October this year be postponed to February next year, when there will be a likelihood that a lot of people will be vaccinated by then.

A movement calling itself Pastors Against Church Closure is calling on the government to review the adjusted Level 4 lockdown regulations and open churches because many people are succumbing to depression as opposed to the covid-19 virus. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, the Limpopo Chairperson of the movement Apostle Mightyman Manganyi said it is sad that everytime when government decides to impose lockdown regulations, some church organisations are not consulted except the South African Council of Churches which he accused of being a sell-out. Meanwhile, the SACC Chairperson in Limpopo Reverend Awedzani Nemaukwe disputed all the accusations.
Following the ruling of the constitutional court that former president Jacob Zuma was guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him to 15 months' imprisonment, there have been different reactions and views from the public. The apex court further ordered that Zuma pay the legal costs spent by the State Capture Inquiry in bringing the matter before the court on a punitive scale. Nghamula Chauke sought out the expert opinion of Prof Omphemetse Sibanda who is a professor of Law and the executive Dean of the faculty of management at the University of Limpopo.
The Department of Employment and Labour recently released directions on occupational health and safety measures in certain workplaces. The directions apply to all employers that are permitted to continue or begin business operations under the current Disaster Management Act regulations. The ANC Limpopo Secretary Soviet Lekganyane said it is sad that the recent ANC BGMs have been infiltrated by acts of criminality and by people who are not even members of the party. Officials from departments of Basic Education and Health say they are confident that the vaccine roll-out for teachers will go as planned. The Deputy Minister of Health Dr Joe Phaahla told Nghamula Chauke that several teacher unions were engaged on how this roll-out will pan out and there is overall satisfaction from all stakeholders.
The Department of Basic Education has urged teachers to be present at school as it prepares to begin its vaccine rollout. The department has set out to vaccinate its 582 000 teachers and school personnel within 10 working days. South Africa has experienced a spate of cases of mob justice and vigilantism. Recently there were cases reported in Tshakuma, in the Vhembe district and another very well publicised case in Zandspruit, in Gauteng. Police Minister Bheki Cele has taken full responsibility for the police's failure to protect victims of mob violence while responding to the Zandspruit one. Nghamula Chauke had a panel discussion with Limpopo Police Spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Community Police Forum Chairperson Frans Kgasago and Criminologist from the University of Venda Ndivho Sithuga and they all agreed that there is a need for communities, SAPS and all stakeholders to work hand in hand in fighting crime as this will help in preventing cases of vigilantism.
The commission for gender equality in Limpopo says there is a perpetual culture of under reporting of cases of gender-based violence in schools due to various reasons stemming from fear and other unknown reasons which still need to be investigated. CGE Provincial Manager Tshepang Mokgokong says the commission is pushing for the department of education to create policies around the handling of sexual harassment cases in schools.
The Chairperson of the ANC in Limpopo Chupu Mathabatha has raised concerns about the leaking of internal discussions of the ANC to the media. This after an audio was leaked to the media whereby Mathabatha was heard saying that the problem that is there in Limpopo is due to some party members who run around purporting to be defenders of President Cyril Ramaphosa. The decision by the Modjadji Royal Family to appoint Prince Lekukela Modjadji as the new King of Balobedu has been received with mixed reactions. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, the Royal family Spokesperson Phetole Mampeule said this decision was taken by the Royal council because Queen-Elect Masalanabo Modjadji is not prepared to lead the Balobedu nation. Still on this, Historian Professor Sekgothe Mokgoatsana said it was the duty of the Royal council to ensure that Masalanabo is well prepared and ready to lead the Balobedu.
The ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule has been suspended from the party and will no longer be allowed to carry out his duties as the party’s SG or be allowed to make public pronouncements on its behalf. The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters in Limpopo Jossey Buthane vows to continue fighting for workers's rights at the ZZ2 farms. Buthane told Nghamula Chauke that the owners of the ZZ2 farms at Mooketsi are exploiting workers and the government of the day is not willing to step in and assist these farm workers. Buthane said the owners of the farms, have on numerous occassions failed to meet with the residents of Mooketsi, farm workers and the EFF. He said the EFF will not back down until the workers are free from the abuse of their employer.

Social Worker Zamani Manganyi from Department of Social Development’s Polokwane Secure Centre says there are secure centres that are formerly known as juvenile centres where children who are in conflict with the law are kept. He says the kind of services offered in secure care centres are therapeutic psycho-social services, educational and vocational services. This discussion comes after the recent bullying incident involving learners at Mbilwi High school and this resulted in the death of one learner Lufuno Mavhunga who allegedly committed suicide. ANC Limpopo Secretary Soviet Lekganyane said the ANC in the province has complied with requirements of the National Executive Committee of the ANC around the submission of the step-aside list of the names of people who are criminally charged. Last month, the party President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the NEC had given those who are charged with corruption 30 days to step aside from their positions or face suspension.

Labour unions in the public health sector in Limpopo have dismissed allegations by the head of the department, Dr Thokozile Mhlongo that their imminent strike against the implementation of circular 43 is illegal. This after Mhlongo cautioned healthcare workers during a media briefing on Monday that their salaries will be deducted if they participate as the strike is illegal. The unions indicated their determination to go ahead with the strike if the department is not withdrawing circular 43 of 2020, and circular 04 of 2021.
Dr Mhlongo addressed the issue of health unions who wanted to embark on a protest regarding what the unions called "the department's refusal to withdraw the unilateral changes to conditions of service occasioned by the issuing of Circular No: 43 of 2020 and Circular 4 of 2021"

Shonisani Lethole , a businessman that was admitted to Tembisa hospital east of Johannesburg with breathing difficulties last year died before receiving his results, which showed that he had tested positive for COVID-19. Lethole used Twitter just days before his death to reach out to Health Minister Zweli Mkhize saying he was being starved and pleaded for help. The Health Ombudsman has investigated the care of businessman Lethole and found substandard and negligence. Lethole died at Tembisa Tertiary Hospital in June 2020.Ombudsman Malegapuru Makgoba found several disturbing errors were made regarding Lethole's healthcare.

Polokwane municipality Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng says the municipality's Bus Rapid Transport system - Leeto La Polokwane will begin its actual operations in March 2021. Field rangers employed under the department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism have alleged that the department has cut their danger allowance and engagements with the management and the MEC has not yielded good results. Ebenezer Dam Declining – water restrictions and water rationing to be implemented. Water supply to Polokwane is received from five sources with the main sources being Olifantspoort, Ebenezer Dam, Dap Naude Dam and Seshego Dam. The other two are boreholes systems. These sources provide a combined 50.6ML per day to the city,urban and rural areas. Reduced operations at the Ebenezer Plant, Low rainfall over a period is now threatening freshwater supply from the Ebenezer Dam as it is now running below 13% of its full capacity. The average daily water supply from this scheme has reduced from 36 Ml/d to 20Ml per day. This has resulted in the water supply shortfall increasing from 30 Ml/day to 47 Ml/d.

Last week Thursday, she was with us in the studio leading a dialogue on Gender Based Violence, giving direction on the strategic position her department is taking to curb the killings. Few days after the dialogue, we had a case in Phalaborwa where a man shot and killed his wife, the cousin before turning the gun on himself. He was earlier reported for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter. On Wednesday we got another report where the MEC reacted with shock following the death of a 67-year-old woman and her two grandchildren at Maokeng village in Senwabarwana who were discovered with gapping wounds
