Perhaps, but you’ll have to be patient before I can give it to you.Caveat: The research nature of the field precludes all but a very tiny few, who are actively “on the ground” doing real experimentation, from commenting authoritatively. While I do have a background in software engineering, this is not my specialty. This is, however, an informed opinion from a computation and physics perspective.The term “Quantum Computing” is a weasel word at the moment. There are interpretations of that phrase that will work and there are ones that are nonsensical pipe dreams. So, first, lets ignore the magical BS claims and focus on what actually is feasible.The crucial point is that “Quantum Computing” as it actually will work is just a resurgence of “Analog Computing” or better yet, hybridized analog-digital computing.Here’s one over-simplified paragraph:It might be better (and more specifically) called wave computation. If you understand that a wave can be broken into an arbitrary number of components, then you can understand that those components can be representative of a wide variety of information. When one wave interacts with another they are modified by that interaction and become something more complex. This is a type of computation. Particles in the quantum realm are governed by specific wave mechanics which can be combined in ways which will result in this sort of interference-based computation. Imagine how much information can be stored and computed by combining two waves which basically have an infinite number of points on each.But let’s go a little further:Unfortunately, that paragraph is an idealization and there are many various engineering limitations and that is why hybridization with conventional digital computation is usually superior to analog alone but the reliable bounds within the wave function of a particle occurs, actually does solve a couple of them.Some of the other answers might focus upon resolution of the wave mechanics into a discrete state like “spin up” or “spin down” but that’s after the fact of what’s going on under the covers.In the mean time you have executives telling engineers to perform some impossible magic nonsense, and then engineers attempting to make something similar to what is demanded of them by working on principles that are similar to the nonsense but actually within the realm of real working principles. It’s a mess…The folks at Nvidia are actually ahead of the curve in a certain sense because their processors work on principles something like an analog computing basis and that’s why they are superior for graphics.
