Hey guys! It’s a special day coz it’s Leo’s (and his brother’s) birthday! So, this episode is mainly focuses Leo and his birthday wish (C’mon, let’s give the birthday boy some highlight). Carla & Leo's Corner is back with another episode. This time, it's quite special because we talked about the social issues masked and showcased through Marius Talampas' 2018 film entitled, "Ang Pangarap kong Holdap"—a very underrated film we say. The film talks about a group of 'holdapers' led by Eman with his friends, Toto and Carlo, and their hilarious, simple-minded, and ineffective ways of conducting a 'holdap.' With a very unlucky streak for years now, a new member was added to the group—Nickoy, whom no one knew was an undercover cop.
The film, while it does not condone the wrongdoings of the characters, presents to the viewers in an ironic fashion a familiarization with the thwarted society where crimes seem so normal. Listen to us as we unwrap the social issues showcased in the film. No, we don't mean the crimes, but the intricate allusion of gender and gender roles as portrayed in the film.

Hey guys! It's been a while since we last posted. Sorry to keep you waiting. We just got busy with real life. We know many of you probably know that we are teachers and since Covid-19 has changed the face of education in an instant, we needed to cope up with that. We had to create our modules and equip ourselves in our own battlefield.
While we do not claim that we're fully armed in the battlefield, nor do we speak for the rest of the teachers and the institutions, in this late-night convo (thus, explains the lazy & quiet sound of this convo), we delved into the criticisms of Online Learning and tried to analyze where these criticisms are coming from. What could be the answers to these criticisms? What lies behind the [zoom/ google meet] camera? How do we, teachers, see online learning?

Since we still couldn't leave our houses and physically bond with our friends, we invited them again in a zoom session to talk about the mundane and the interesting.
In this long (really long! Sorry, we love talking) conversation, we have talked about the ECQ; the shutdown of a big news and entertainment company in the Philippines; how we perceive and receive news and current events today--especially with the aid of social media, amidst the persistent purveying of 'fake' news, whose aim is to always misinform the receiver. And of course, probably our main and most favorite part of the convo--Kim Chiu and the memes.
This podcast episode is in no way propagating hate and ridicule to Kim Chiu, nor do we side with her as well. However, in this issue, we looked at a different perspective and used her sensational video message to relate it in one of society's way of branding the trending nowadays--memes.
Meme as defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary is "an amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned picture or video) or genre of items that is spread widely online especially through social media." Once it's a meme, it is depicted as funny and trending. But our question is, once an issue is depicted in a meme, does the fun in it diminish the depth of the issue or does the meme indicate strong and enough sarcasm to make people see the gravity of the matter? That despite it being funny, there is a symbol we all need to decode from it?

Hola! It's been weeks since you last heard from us. And now that we're back with a new episode, we also brought our friends with us. Since we are all locked into our houses during this enhanced community quarantine imposed by the Government because of the COVID-19, we utilized our resources to be able to catch up. This is a simple kwentuhan session with our friends where we asked each other how are we coping up with the "new normal." How did our lives change in the past two months? What have we realized while inside the comforts of our houses? How do we still keep ourselves sane amidst this unexpected turn out of events?

This morning sesh focused on how we communicate today. In all the platforms available for us to communicate, how is it that it seems like our communication skills are deteriorating?
Instead of discussing communication (whether oral, written, verbal, nonverbal)in a technical and academic approach, we got down and scrutinized our own observations about how we utilize this function and gift as humans.

Just as promised, we're finally back with another episode about cheating. Since cheating's a pretty big issue, we decided to come up with another session where we try to understand (not rationalize) why some people resort to this. Ever heard about toxic masculinity and the unjust perception of society on men and women? Well, we realized that these concepts are tied up with cheating. How? Tune in to find out.
Episode 4 is about cheating. In today's setting where cheating has been sort of normalized, we dissected it and threw in some of our perspectives to define it. And we asked ourselves, when does one commit cheating? How does it start? When can we say that we are already cheating?
How did we even get into discussing cheating when we were only talking about Math? Tune in to find out.
In this session, we discussed about the usage of phone, social media, and our own opinion of what the standards of "netizenship" should be.
So, in this age of social media, the questions is: how should we handle these perks of the internet? What contents should we post? And how should we react with the information we see? How can we be critical users and consumers of social media?
Disclaimer: We're no pros when it comes to social media and its terminologies. We are mere users of these platforms and all these are our opinions and observations about how users consume content and information.
In this episode, we got too comfy to talk about everything random and mundane, including our viand and, well, gaslighting.
Gaslighting, according to an infographic we saw on Facebook posted by 'peaceful parenting' is the scenario when someone tweaks your perception of reality to make it sound like you are wrong and they are not. Such phrases are some of the examples:
"You are overreacting." "Why are you sensitive." "I never said that."
