This episode has a fantastic conversation with Dr. Tim Elmore and explores the nuances and realities in working with Gen Z. Highlighting the importance of understanding individual circumstances rather than making assumptions is one of the key elements Dr. Elmore brings forward. He emphasizes the need for empathy and communication to bridge the gap between different work cultures of the generations.

He also says that we need to get curious instead of furious and fascinated instead of frustrated. His new book, The Future Begins with Z: Nine Strategies to Lead Generation Z as They DISRUPT the Workplace is out now! I highly recommend that you go get it because it is full of such great strategies.

Takeaways

  • There's a perception that younger generations don't want to work.
  • Many young people juggle multiple jobs to make ends meet.
  • Personal circumstances can greatly influence work behavior.
  • Asking questions can lead to better understanding.
  • Generational differences in work ethic can be bridged with empathy.
  • Younger generations may have a different but strong work ethic.
  • Communication is key to understanding work motivations.
  • Assumptions can lead to misunderstandings in the workplace.
  • Recognizing individual challenges can foster better work relationships.
  • Tapping into the passion of younger workers can enhance productivity.

In this episode, David explores one of the key factors to accomplishing goals.  That is, your use of the imaginative faculty that we all have.

The problem is that we have been programmed to not engage it and, like a muscle, our imagination will atrophy if it isn't used.

By picturing ourselves achieving our goals and dreams in our mind first, the subconscious mind goes about creating the programming to help you create it in the physical world.

Listen in as I share the tool you need to get started on the right path as the new year begins.

In the last episode, we heard from author, speaker and Undercover Millennial about what his research uncovered for people to say "I Love It Here" (also the title of his book!).

Today, I have a conversation with one of those kinds of leaders who is actually creating that kind of environment in perhaps the most unlikely of places - the manufacturing environment.

Listen in as Kevin Peters, President of IDL Print, talks about his own growth journey as a leader and the things that he has done to create the merger of intelligent and caring manufacturing.

Many of Kevin's leaders are part of the Emerging Leader Inner Circle and they have been through the process that we created to help develop leadership behaviors that support the vision of the growth for the team.

Kevin embodies the leadership qualities of that mentor-manager that Clint Pulver talked about last week and I know that you'll enjoy hearing from this leader today.

Once again this episode is brought to you by the Emerging Leader Inner Circle which helps unseen people-leaders develop the next level leaders to futureproof the organization by preventing A-Level talent from leaving. The program creates the ability to grow leaders and elevate to be seen as strategic and visionary.

One of the most impactful ways to grow a company and stand out from your competitors in a commoditized world is to be very intentional about company culture.

Most CEOs say that it's the most important thing that impacts the bottom line results of the company.

Yet so many don't really know how to create an intentionally designed company culture.

In this episode, I share two steps of an eight step model that world class organizations use to create an intentional and people focused culture.

  • How I teach culture and bring it together with values.
  • The lessons of listening and speaking straight.
  • The generational aspect of teaching culture.

The future of any company depends on the people that make it up. That's especially true where there are leaders who have tons of potential and the ability to have that potential expressed.

In this episode, Dr. Kimberly Hambrick and I discuss some of the lessons we heard from participants in the Emerging Leader Inner Circle Virtual Summit held in December 2020.

There are many ways that leaders can grow and one of the ways Dr. Hambrick and I have created is a group environment called the Emerging Leader Inner Circle.

Every year, we collaborate to help these leaders grow in a virtual mastermind and teaching environment. We then bring them together in a summit. This year it was virtual and we heard from several members who shared some of their greatest lessons this year.

We share these with you as we summarize them together in this conversation.

Dr. Kimberly Hambrick has a podcast of her own called The Cannoli Coach and you can check it out here: https://www.spreaker.com/show/the-cannoli-coach

This year has been a difficult one all the way around.

I know that many want to move past it as quickly as possible but growth can only happen when we look back and reflect on the lessons we've learned so that we can apply them to our future.

In this episode, I think through the different seasons of the year and what I experienced and learned throughout it.

I ask some questions for you to consider at the end of the episode and would love to hear your feedback.

Send me your thoughts on them at admin@davidmcglennen.com

Enjoy your holiday season!

One of the greatest tools for business, professional and personal growth is the master mind.

In this episode, I give you my thoughts on the power of it and talk about Napoleon Hill's definition from his classic work, Think And Grow Rich.

I share some of my experiences with my own master mind group as well as some tips in finding one for yourself.

The challenge I have for you as you form your 2021 goals and aims is to find a master mind group that will take you to the next version of your business, your professional growth and your personal growth.

There is so much untapped potential with you that can only be drawn out through the power of the master mind.

If you haven't read Napoleon Hill's book, I highly encourage you to put it on your reading or listening list now and dive into it.  It is powerful and takes some deep study but will unlock so much within you.

When you've been on MTV, 60 Minutes, The BBC and other media outlets sitting in the number two chair of an organization, how do you transition to be the CEO?

Today's guest is Jason Burt who is the President and CEO of Unaltered Ministries.   He shares how he made that transition and the challenges that went along with it as he entered the growth space.

He shares some of the qualities that he needed to learn and also the struggles along the way as he felt the weight of the CEO role and navigated an organizational name change and then the pandemic.

Jason talks about having a safe space to share the struggles of leadership and also having the support of a group that challenges you as you enter that growth space of learning.

Listen in as he talks about how you can move through your career and your life with intention and the importance of developing emerging leaders (one of my favorite topics).

Speaking of emerging leaders, this episode is brought to you by the Emerging Leader Inner Circle Virtual Summit taking place on December 1st and 8th.  Everything that Jason talks about is what this Summit and environment is all about.

This conversation with Dr. Rosie Ward, who just released her newest book "Rehumanizing The Workplace", is really insightful.

We all go through our own growth journey and to hear Rosie's is really inspiring.

Rosie was selected in 2019 to be a Certified Dare to Lead Facilitator with Brene Brown and she is an author who says she's a work in progress and never really done growing as she continues to learn and evolve.

We discuss imposter syndrome and then dive into her book where she shares the 5 Keys to re-humanizing the workplace.   She says that "growth is never easy but its got such reward."

This is my first guest conversation on In The Growth Space and I am honored to have one of my mentors to be that first guest.

Paul Martinelli went from High School dropout with a stuttering disability from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and a dim future to owner of a commercial office cleaning company which he sold for $1 million.

He has shared the stage with speakers like Les Brown, Seth Godin, Nick Vujicic, Jack Canfield, Brian Tracy, Wayne Dyer, Denis Waitley, Zig Ziglar and of course John Maxwell.

He put up his own money to partner with John Maxwell and start the John Maxwell Team. It’s where I originally met Paul and got to be mentored by him.

We talk about the power of an inner circle - a mastermind and how to turn down the volume of that internal voice that tells you that you can't do something.

Be sure to let me know what your takeaways are after I give you mine at the end of this episode.  Send me a note at admin@davidmcglennen.com to get in touch!

Why is it so hard to take time away from work - especially for high achievers and typical "Type A" personality people?

The fear of missing out or falling behind is real and too often we are afraid of really enjoying the progress we have made.

As a business owner and business leaders, it is so easy to keep looking at the gap of where we are versus where we want to be.

But by measuring the gain of where we started and enjoying a successful season, we can increase our satisfaction and live in alignment with the things we value most.

Listen in as I share some strategies that I've used to lean into the natural rhythms of life and business.

And don't miss next week's episode with my mentor, Paul Martinelli.  He's the man who, together with John Maxwell and $1million of his own money, built the John Maxwell Team to a worldwide coaching and speaking team.

On this episode, I talk about what it feels like getting out of your comfort zone and the emotional cycle that keeps most leaders in theirs.

Once we do something that we've never done before, there's an invisible barrier that I call the terror barrier.  It keeps leaders safe, secure and dangerously comfortable.

I'm going to tell you how to break through it.  It isn't easy but it can be done.  It must be done!

It takes one of two things.  So listen in and find out what that is.

I talk about a video that I did for my Emerging Leader Inner Circle and here's the link to that video on my YouTube channel:  https://youtu.be/0i2RvnjcJso

In this episode, I'm starting a series on the foundations of building growth into your business and into your life.

It's become a familiar and somewhat trite saying that growth only happens outside of your comfort zone.

But what does that really mean?

It involves habits and beliefs.

In this episode, I share how to actually do it.  There's an orderly process to getting out of your comfort zone.

But that doesn't mean it's easy!
