That's exactly what I discuss with my guest, Rachel Schofield, a seasoned career coach and author of the Career Change Guide. We highlight real-life examples of individuals who have successfully transitioned into portfolio careers, like a police officer who ventured into furniture designing and a graphic designer turned stone carver.

We also tackle the challenges and opportunities one might encounter when transitioning to a portfolio career. From the identity shift involved in moving from an employed to freelance role, to the imposter syndrome that can creep in when learning new skills, we cover it all. Hannah, like so many of my listeners, moved from a secure corporate career to starting her own business, in coaching.    Which of course we talked about, but what really struck me was her experience when her child was born prematurely and how she kept herself together during that really tough time.

In this episode she also shares the highs and lows of career change and how being a working parent weaves its way through.  "Be curious, start small and start now."

Are you confident that you can make a change when you want to, rather than waiting for the right time.  And does the right time ever come along?

Natalie's journey from nursing to corporate to running her own business as a leadership coach is enough of a story in itself.  Add to that life as a stepmum to two teenage girls and you have a podcast episode that's not worth missing.

Her approach to parenthood comes with a different perspective, that of a step-parent, and I found it fascinating how she brings in her coaching skills as she and her wife Lucy navigate teenage years.

Rebecca built her business from the ground up, alongside raising her three, now grown, girls.  After an 8 year career break to bring up her children, she had to make a decision about what came next and for her, owning her own thing was something she knew she wanted.

Rebecca's journey shows how a commitment to your business and a passion for people can lead to real success.

I dabbled with the franchising idea a few times as it really seems to give the flexibility and ownership many of us are looking for.  And for some reason it hasn't got the same exposure as the US.  So it was really interesting to hear Rebecca's insider view!

Sarah Green experienced what so many parents experience, and that's the desire to move away from fast fashion, to endeavour to be more sustainable and to not end up with bag loads of baby clothes that need a new home after just a few months.  I've certainly been there!

With this in mind, Sarah left her career in publishing to launch Borro, a circular fashion service which rents baby clothes.

Borro enables busy parents to shop sustainably for their baby clothes.  With complete flexibility, parents choose just want they need and return the clothes when they're outgrown, meaning no hassle sorting and storing old baby clothes either.
