This marks a very special moment for The Safe Room Podcast because this was our debut appearance on LuvBay Afrobeat Music Talk Radio. On this episode, we interviewed the wonderfully talented Khree Fearman, a product photographer and founder of ON WYT. This was a fascinating conversation, especially considering Khree's work and how her expertise/services allow business owners to receive professional photos useful for marketing and branding.
This interview dives into her beginnings and how it led to work for huge clients such as Amazon Canada. It also goes deeper into the art of Product Photography, and how capturing product photos is a necessity for any entrepreneur looking to drive more brand awareness and sales to their business.

Here's a question for you. What happens when you get two individuals who love to tell stories, love to ramble, and have no regard for ending a conversation? You create a special memory and a historical episode. This week on The Safe Room, we continue our conversation with Faizah Balogun, founder of A Question For, and this episode is like NO OTHER.
Our activity portion is Faizah taking the wheel and interviewing me for the first 15 minutes. Next, we get into a deep conversation about wanting to rewind, pause, or fast forward in our lives and what impact it leaves on us. Then, just as we were about to wrap up, Faizah was determined to break the record for the longest episode in TSR history, so we kept the conversation going with some random, but fun banter. Sooner than later, we hit around the 1h55m mark, setting a new record for the longest interview with a solo guest.
Faizah's drive and determination are not only shown in this episode, but the work she puts in for AQF and I'm so happy to sit down with her and share the amazing story she continues to tell.

If you're looking for a safe space to tap into, this is the episode for you. The Safe Room Podcast provides a space where everyone feels inclusive and open to sharing. This guest embodies this feeling and so much more, being the founder of A Question For, a digital safe space created to support people overcoming personal challenges. This week on the podcast, I'm joined by Faizah Balogun, a Wellness Enthusiast with a background in Product Management and Innovation Strategy.
Currently, AQF's focus in their work is on areas/issues in terms of personal growth, mental health, career, and relationships. Starting as a video project, AQF has evolved by conducting user interviews, surveys, and flyers and working toward a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to launch in March this year. This episode is very introspective, diving into Faizah's incredible journey and how she's still learning through this experience. We also have broken into parts of us discussing the significance of having space to open ourselves and curating a space for sharing our stories and for our benefit.

This isn't your prototypical episode of The Safe Room. This week, we're joined by an international actress, Yolanda Brown, who resides in Madrid, Spain. We first met at the 2022 TINFF Festival (Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival). We were supposed to have this interview a year ago, but A LOT happened between then and now. However, one year later, Yolanda and I are finally getting the chance to talk about her illustrious career.
Alone this year, Yolanda has won multiple awards for her contributions to the comedy series "Los Aspirantes" (The Applicants) for Best Directing Duo (Morgana Film Festival), and Best TV Episode (Universe Multicultural Film Festival). This episode carries an aura that reminisces when The Safe Room got started. A very relaxed and conversational talk, and it gives a spotlight for guests to share their stories. There are still some takeaways and some keen advice, but this interview offers a chance to hear about someone you probably don't know well, in hopes their journey motivates you.

In continuation of our last episode surrounding Financial Literacy (Episode 107 with Financial Professional Eboni Ledford). This week on The Safe Room, we're joined by Ms. "Finance For The Culture" herself, Shay Myers as she shares how her business acts on teaching individuals the aspects of Financial Literacy.
Having her Financial Advisor License and once being an English tutor and ESL instructor, Shay has established great patience with her clients and has taken her services to support not only the Black community but the entire culture. When we look at Financial Literacy, we become concerned about our money situation because some of us don't have enough knowledge. This conversation opens to provide clarity from someone who changed her life around with her money situation (which you will hear in this episode) and offers ways to make Financial Literacy more accessible and accommodate the needs of individuals.

I haven't been more excited for an interview than this one. This week on The Safe Room, we're joined by Eboni Ledford, a financial professional, lifestyle influencer, and public speaker. We first met at the beginning of the year for the Secure The Bag Summit. It was such a fantastic time, and Eboni is a phenomenal person. Her work specializes in many areas, including various types of insurance, annuity/investment, and supporting individuals with building a financial plan and having a strong money mindset.
This conversation is filled with key insight on resources for learning more about investment, Eboni's story into Finance (which originally wasn't the plan for her), and going through a quick case study for prioritizing a budget for an event/project. Eboni's expertise is on full display, and she provides so much relativity with her words, that I felt I came out of the conversation learning more than before. I would highly recommend listening to this episode from top to bottom, AND THE ENDING is so touching from Eboni showing love to The Safe Room.

This week on The Safe Roo, we welcome Hamza Fasih, the founder of Bellvines Influence, and someone who works deep in the creator economy. Flashback to last year at the 2022 Branded Conference, I met Hamza and something just clicked from our initial interaction. Afterward, I would get to know Hamza a bit more in what he does, specializing in Brand Strategy, obtaining sales for your business, and supporting clients to develop their own lanes through Hamza's personal expertise and insight.
This conversation is a year in the making, and I'm so happy to have sat down with Hamza and be transparent on the podcast. We talk about the story behind Bellvines Influence, and how Hamza positioned himself to build trust and working relationships with his team and clients. We also discuss the importance of Brand Strategy to creators and how they can find ways to fully promote their brands in their vision while building audience awareness. It's been a minute since we released a Court Advantage Special episode. This week on The Safe Room, I'm joined again by Kevin Obeng to discuss the crazy week before the 2023 NBA Free Agency period. This interview was three years in the making, and both the host and guest have come a long way from their previous conversation. This week on The Safe Room, I had the pleasure of interviewing Mustafa Idris, a Toronto independent artist who creates stories and carries strong penmanship through his rapping capability and technical prowess. For Mustafa, his story demonstrates an individual who's not only fighting to be the best in his craft but also showcasing vulnerability and rise to success with the road of uncertainty looming.
2022 was a significant year for Mustafa, which was spearheaded by breakout tracks such as "Outta Control" and "Blessed Up", and is featured all across the city including SANKOFA2023, Grandbills Solo Art Exhibition, and R.I.S.E. Frequency Fridayz. I talk with Mustafa about some of the trials he had to go through to become the artist and person he is today. Also, we share a bit about the state of conscious Hip Hop, Mustafa's messaging through the music, and working on new music.

This is the biggest moment in the existence of The Safe Room Podcast because we have finally reached 100 EPISODES!!! I'm so grateful for reaching this far with the reputation and platform I've created. So for this special episode, I wanted to get someone who exemplifies the drive, determination, artistry, and entrepreneurial aspects wrapped up in one. This week on The Safe Room, I'm joined by Kingsz, the CEO and one of the founders for RoundTable Records. Kingsz has performed more than 60 times in the Last year for Companies like UOfT, R.I.S.E, ICON and showcases such as Arts in the Park, GTA Got Talent & Hutsy financial’s new years event. Kingsz believes in supporting the Youth and teaching Artists Reform & Artrepreneurship to artists and entrepreneurs looking to have a career in the arts.
This episode was recorded on April 20. I interviewed with Kingsz about his motivations for becoming an artist in his community while also developing such entrepreneurial characteristics that helped build RoundTable from the ground up with this team. We also talked about his latest project "B4 Hood Prophet" and why for him becoming a "Hood Prophet" means sharing the messaging of success, support, and leadership for the streets to hear. At the end of our conversation, we look upon lifting up the Hip Hop scene in Toronto that conceptually focuses on showcasing the sides of the arts and entrepreneurship and building up leadership in communities that Kingsz has grown up and experienced.
I'm so blessed to have this interview with Kingsz at the Bureau of Power and Light Pop-Up studio just for the third time in months. A special thank you to all who have listened, shared, and supported The Safe Room Podcast since day one. I can't wait until we hit 200 episodes.

This week on The Safe Room, we're back at the Bureau of Power and Light Pop-up space with our special guest, artist, and creative to the stars, Jäjé. I was so pumped for this episode because the first time we tried this online, things weren't working out on a technical level. Also, for the few minutes we did record online, Jäjé had immaculate energy that not even I could match. So, when we rescheduled for an in-person episode, I was looking forward to what could happen when the two of us got together for the first time, and it exceeded all my expectations. From start to finish, Jäjé and I were completely in sync with each other and the chemistry was out of this world. Plus, hearing Jäjé's story is so touching, especially how she's not afraid to express her personality through her music, poetry, and rap. Jäjé is an amazing storyteller and knows how to captivate her audience using her emotions and smooth voice. There was a part in the episode where she talked about her experience becoming an artist, meeting with WiztheMC, and how everything transpired for 20 minutes. She had me on the edge of my seat with every word. Overall, this episode is outspoken, brash, and energetic, which is why should definitely listen to it until the end. Sometimes, things happen for a reason, and I'm so glad we didn't record online because it was totally worth it meeting in person!

It’s been a while since we did one of our Court Advantage episodes on the podcast, precisely October of last year. Well, I think it’s time that we end that streak this week on The Safe Room. My co-host Kevin and I had the pleasure of meeting up in person at the Bureau of Power and Light around Pape to record our episode, special shoutout from Geoff Done for allowing us to utilize his space. The conversation was amazing as always; covering the paradigm shift in the NBA landscape, discussing how to fix the All-Star Weekend following its mixed reactions, and breaking down the new MLB rules for the upcoming season. Kevin and I had a blast coming out to BPL productions, especially with how busy our schedules are. Sometimes, it’s great to get out of your house, apartment, or whatever you live in, explore new sites, and build new relationships with those who support local artists, entrepreneurs, and for myself, podcasters. Make sure to stay tuned, because this won’t be the last time I’ll be recording at BPL Productions.

I hope you're ready for this episode because it's a LONG one! Side note: I recorded Episode 96 with Amanda Coombs (Which you should check out after listening to this episode) an hour ahead of this recording, so I thought I would lose my voice for all the talking I was about to do. However, I was blown away by the energy brought by the Let Me Get My Headphones Podcast. Jasmine, Jace, and Javon are joining me in The Safe Room this week. They share a strong bond and family-like relationship through their time as a trio on and off their podcast. The LMGMHP Podcast creates a stage for independent artists to showcase their stories while tying in conversations surrounding pop culture and music. I love what they've created because it highlights various talents in the arts and the three of them have amazing chemistry with each other and their guests. It shows here because I guarantee you I didn't talk for even a quarter of this episode. They were so into the questions I asked them that around the 45-minute mark, we were just finishing the first question. I'm telling you if you appreciate a raw, yet entertaining and intuitive discussion, this episode has it all and then some. I recommend listening to this in your spare time when you're free.

We're back with another episode and this is one of our informative conversations. I wanted to talk about voter literacy and the importance of understanding voting procedures that help community residents make important decisions for the community. I came up with this topic back in November, a month after the Municipal Election in Canada, and I wanted to reach out and talk with one of the candidates running in the Humber River Black Creek. Months later, and with the unexpected resignation of former Mayor John Tory, this conversation is more important than ever since we may experience another election very soon. This week on The Safe Room, I sit down with Amanda Coombs, founder of Back2Basickz Youth Support Services, and 2022 City Councillor Candidate for Ward 7: Humber River Black Creek, to discuss how to vote effectively. This was such a great conversation, with Amanda sharing that most individuals had a hard time with voting procedures the day of the election, and not showing enough support collectively to vote in the first place. This episode hopes to tackle these issues and let it be known that our vote and opinion matters, so we as a community have to come together and advocate for change in our communities. Amanda is currently working to facilitate voter literacy workshops very soon, so make sure to follow her and keep on the lookout if you're in Toronto!
Follow Amanda Coombs on Instagram if you want to contact her for more information about the upcoming voter literacy workshops.

I've been waiting to have this conversation with this individual for a long time. I first heard her on the Unapologetically Her Podcast, hosted by the wonderful Natalie Nadeen, then a couple of weeks later we officially met in person at the Branded Entrepreneurship Conference in August 2022, and one more time at a holiday event for Business In the Streets (BITS) in December 2022. Finally, I could say that we got Monique Hutson, the founder of Dom Productions, on The Safe Room Podcast this week. Just like the title of this episode states, Monique has been dominating her business providing services in photography, videography, writing, and consultations, and doing it like a boss. Hearing Monique's story about the inception of Dom Productions is really fitting because she opens herself and demonstrates a vulnerable side where she wanted to go into journalism, but felt it wasn't right for her. She followed her heart and it led her to where she stands today, and if you have the time to listen to her, she'll tell you everything because in her own words: "I'm an open book... ask away and I'll answer it!" Monique exudes this energy not just for meeting people for the first time at events and functions, but also with her clients allowing for the conversation to be engaging and creative. Overall, Monique has accomplished so much in a short period, and this is just my take, I know she's only scratched the surface. Sky's the limit when you're DOMinating the Photography/Videography Game.

How many times were you asked the question: 90s or 00s? No matter the subject, we all had our fair share of opinions and perspectives towards the 1990s and 2000s. So, what would happen if both generations came together to discuss the moments that made those eras so special? Well, look no further because this week on The Safe Room, I talked with Shaleena from the Everything 90s Podcast to have that open-ended conversation. Shaleena is a 90s baby to the very end, and her podcast allows for conversations around music, fashion, shows/movies; most importantly, it's one of her personal safe spaces to express what she was raised in her childhood and share it with 90s babies who feel the same. We take a deep dive into the beginnings of her podcast, learn more about Shaleena herself, and discuss the phenomenon between individuals who lived and grew up in the 90s compared to the 00s. Being a 00s baby, this was an awesome conversation to have and I'm so glad that Shaleena and I could just sit down and talk it out with no conflict of interest. Shaleena is currently running her 90s vs. 00s Series with her podcast, so make sure to check it out when you've finished listening to this episode.

This is an episode in the making since last year in December. For some context, I was a guest for the JM Squared Podcast to share my work on the Jane Finch Community Research Partnership. At the time, it was a fun and informative conversation, but I knew at that moment I wanted to reach back to JM Squared about having them as guests for my podcast. I always say there's a time and place for everything... well that time has finally come! This week on The Safe Room, live at Squared Studios, we welcome Moses, Mark, and Joyson, the hosts of the JM Squared Podcast. We talk about their unprecedented rise in the podcasting game in their first year, and they share some powerful messages of motivation, for their work and to those who are looking to find their worth. In addition, we get into a music discussion which includes our take on the upcoming 2023 Grammy Awards in February. At the beginning of the podcast, I state that these three gentlemen are: Intelligent, Inspiring, and Influential; when you listen by the end of this new episode, you'll share that sentiment with me and understand why the JM Squared Podcast isn't next up, they're now.

WE'RE BACK! I missed you all and making episodes for all my listeners but after a much-needed break and some planning, we're back with the first episode of 2023. This is also the first episode of the final stretch to episode 100! So, you know we had to start things off on a good note with a wonderful woman I met at the end of last year. This week on The Safe Room, we have Jonsaba Jabbi from SKETCH and Building A Black Archive. Jonsaba Jabbi is a writer, community archivist & historian, and co-founder of Building A Black Archive, a grassroots community archive dedicated to building Black archives in Canada. She is a communications professional who has worked in the nonprofit sector for the last decade with organizations specializing in environmental justice, community arts, youth homelessness, and the heritage sector. She is of Grenadian and Gambian descent and was born and raised in Toronto, growing up in the Bloor & Dovercourt and Dufferin/St. Clair communities. If that's not enough to tune into this episode, I don't know what is. Anyways, we go into extensive detail on Building A Black Archive, the journey they went through during the pandemic, and thriving off it while getting to know some personal things about Jonsaba in our "Hot Seat" segment. It's the first of many bangers to come for 2023 leading up to the 100th episode, and I hope you're ready for it because I am!

This is the year's last episode for 2022, and you know we had to end it with a banger! This week on The Safe Room Podcast, we got Sunshine Arcilla, a multimedia creative, founder of Connect North York & OTR Media Productions, Co-founder and director of CONNECT Collective, and a phenomenal person who's turned herself into a dominant force. I met Sunshine last year, well that's not technically true because I could probably name three times over to when I was in the same room with Sunshine: Our high school days at Downsview, a missed opportunity at York University within the BUSO Program, and a couple of parties here and there. Our relationship feels like the MCU's version of the Multiverse, where any branched timeline could've led us to meet. Sunshine had come a long way from when she was young and has shaped herself to be a consistent and passionate artist/manager who utilizes her knowledge and resources to build her businesses and support upcoming artists, entrepreneurs, and creatives with their craft, including myself. If it weren't for the MC opportunity for Connect North York's Meet The Youth 2022 Networking Event, I would've never continued my working and friendly relationship with her. I can go on and on, but that's what this episode goes over; it discusses Sunshine's rise to the top and how she's turning heads and setting standards for anyone motivated to follow her path. Being this is the last episode of 2022 for The Safe Room, I couldn't think of a better send-off than this episode with a wonderful woman!

The Safe Room is a podcast for open and in-depth conversations with those who want to share their perspectives willingly. The primary purpose is to provide a platform for others to express their voices without being ridiculed or judged by the majority. It's a safe space for the community to come together and bring awareness to others while launching the narratives that build us up as one.
DISCLAIMER: The content stated in this episode is not intended for general audiences; if you wish to listen, please do at your discretion concerning the guest's journey. This episode was recorded on Thursday, October 20. This is one of the boldest and most unscripted episodes I've done so far with my podcast, and I'm so excited to share it with you. I met someone online who works in photography, but most of her work is centered around Erotic Art. However, her purpose is to drive female empowerment and showcases her body in confidence and truth. It's completely different from previous artists I've had, but that's the thing about her; she's an oddball and doesn't shy away from it. You're probably screaming at me to say who this person is. Well, Ashton Loren Ryan, a.k.a. @wild_one_art, is a model who justifies her art through her riveting photography and breathtaking originality. I brought her on The Safe Room Podcast to speak a bit more about the community of Erotic Art: The Ups and Downs, her story, which becomes a crazy rollercoaster, and how she continues to define the status quo of critics commenting negative perceptions surrounding her art. Based on the content, it may not be your typical TSR episode, but it's something to listen to and have an open perspective; you should definitely take a listen.

The Safe Room is a podcast for open and in-depth conversations with those who want to share their perspectives willingly. Hosted by Shon Williams, The Safe Room is the perfect blend of social, cultural, and political issues related to our daily lives/communities and stimulating/intriguing topics for the general listener. It's a safe space for the community to come together and bring awareness to others while launching the narratives that build us up as one.
This episode was recorded on October 19. Let me take you back to August 26 of this year, I attended the Branded Youth Entrepreneurship Conference and met Mellissa & Sugandh. Both ladies conversed with each other until I walked up and asked where the conference's welcoming portion was taking place. From there, we opened up and shared our stories on what brought us here in less than 30 minutes, in what would take most people more time than that. Regardless, we all had a great time and promise to keep in touch soon. That's why it's no surprise I had to bring both ladies on the podcast for the same episode, as they are proud owners of their businesses. Sugandh runs "Linus and Co." creating handmade custom items for pets and their guardians to strengthen the relationship between pet parents and their pets. Mellissa runs "Baby Zips" implementing adaptive clothing for individuals with limb differences and prioritizes the message of adding adaptive wear into more social settings. Both women have established themselves in their respective industries, so I want to shine a light on them and their phenomenal work. Entrepreneurship isn't a new phenomenon; in fact, most people are attempting to dive into this field and create their brand. However. there will be times we reach a point of doubt, hesitancy, and fear. Because of this, we tend to give up and move on. This is the second part of this two-part conversation, and you don't want to miss out on hearing about Mellissa & Sugandh's entrepreneurial journeys.

We're back with another episode, and this week's guest is genuinely sensational because she's one of a kind, so divine, and hard to find. Let me introduce Rare The Creative, a photographer/creative who is the creator of Royal Bankrolls and an active social worker/member of her community. Her work ethic is off the charts, as she collaborates and works on multiple projects; where in this conversation, she referred to herself at one point as "Road Runner Rare." Besides that, Rare has an impeccable eye for art and is not afraid to showcase the stories of influencers, artists, and creatives on a bigger platform. In this episode, we go over Rare's remarkable journey, including the origins of Royal Bankrolls and ongoing projects such as Rare's World. One thing I remember from meeting Rare at the Flaunt It Arts Fest Showcase was her energy and outspokenness, something she wasn't at an earlier stage of her life. I'm so glad to have the chance to interview Rare and create such a great vibe! She even asked if she could play music, and I said, "Go for it!" So, if you hear any unidentified sounds in the episode, that's just the feedback from the music, but hey, this is The Safe Room, which means it's a safe space for everyone! Tap into this episode because it's all positivity, and we're here for it!
Follow Rare on Instagram and support her brands, projects, and art! Show love to artists and creatives in Toronto!

This episode was recorded on Thursday, October 13. Last time, we introduced the first episode of the Playback Series. My co-host Kevin and I are happy to introduce the first episode of the Court Advantage Series on The Safe Room Podcast. For those who may not know, Court Advantage was its separate podcast, but we decided to make it an extension of The Safe Room. Let’s just say when you have two men busy like Kevin and me, running a sports podcast on its own becomes difficult. In this episode, we talk about the 2022-23 NBA Season, which is now underway. This was recorded before the season started, so we shared our predictions and standings for the season. Also, we talked a bit about soccer in an open debate. Bare that my soccer knowledge is low, so I’m hopefully holding myself accountable to keep up more with different leagues. This is the first of many Court Advantage special episodes for the podcast, so if you love to have sports conversations, hit us up, and let’s get to it!

We're kicking off the first episode of our Playback series! This one was so exciting and fun to record, and I had to get a guest who knew their music. Who better than someone I met in the YCEO Program for Business in the Streets and who hosts a YouTube channel? I'm so thrilled to have Darryl Simon, a.k.a. The Recovering Elitist, on The Safe Room. His knowledge in music runs deep to him growing up to Motown music and 50s/60s music, something I wasn't expecting at all. For this first Playback episode, I had to pull out all the good topics, which is why this conversation was everything I was hoping for. Entertaining, real, and informative. We talk about Kanye West's recent actions of the "White Lives Matter" t-shirt, and where his actions define his legacy in music? Also, we have a conversation around R&B and whether it has died, well, according to Diddy of course. Darryl and I clearly know that Diddy's take waa ridiculous, and I couldn't say it better than Darryl himself, but to PACK IT UP!

This episode was recorded on Friday September 9. If you're listening to this episode without hearing Part 1, go back and listen to it, then come back here, and let's continue the conversation! We're finishing our talk this week with Mizz Taj, a Female rapper bringing her Indian culture and personality to Reggae and Punjabi-inspired instrumentals. This episode is more chill and reserved, but for the first 15 minutes, it gets intense with discussions surrounding the Saskatchewan shooting and stabbing within Indigenous communities and the passing of Queen Elizabeth. Taj opens up on her family's intergenerational trauma, which brings the episode into a different feeling that allows for vulnerability and deep reflection upon the British's actions during significant events such as The Partition of India and colonizing people from various populations. Afterward, things switch into a different gear as we engage in a round of King/Queen of the Hill (Music Edition). It was my first try doing something like this on the podcast, and it was such an experience. Moreover, Taj provided one of the most engaging episodes I've had all year so far, and I thank her for being so open and authentic with some of the talking points of the entire recording.

This episode was recorded Friday, September 9. Outside of the Old School vs. New School Series the second time around in both parts, adding up to 1h and 45min, this was the longest episode recorded on The Safe Room. For that reason, we're splitting this into two episodes; the first episode is more interview focused and centralized around Mizz Taj as an outspoken/braggadocious rapper and her experience in social work services in the community. This is raw and loud in terms of Taj's energy for this episode. From her controversial past working with individuals in the music industry to the level of politics that mentally put her in a bad state. However, through all the adversity, she has showcased herself as a force to be reckoned with. Taj brings flavors of Punjabi, Hip Hop, Reggae, and Dance, in a fusion that compliments her delivery while producing records any listener can enjoy. It was such a pleasure to have her come on and be herself, plus we got to learn some interesting things about her outside of her musical career (Trust me, some answers will have you thinking). Next week's episode is more entertaining and dives into some history, but not the type that'll bore you.

This was Kam's first interview ever on a podcast, but the way this conversation was, it didn't feel like it. Apologies in advance, my regular microphone was acting up, so I was forced to resort to the built-in microphone... ew. After a week off, we're back with another episode of The Safe Room Podcast with my special guest Kam a.k.a. Monster Boy Ink. The story goes like this: We met at the Raw Artists Canada Showcase, and I was blown away by his artwork. He uses pencil, charcoal, and ink as his material, but the level of detail and precision is something I appreciate most from artists. In addition, some pieces from his gallery InkWRLD were out of this world, no pun intended. I had to get him on the podcast, and we finally connected after a long time! From leaving Lagos to come to Canada, Kam was inspired at a young age that this was his passion and the career he wanted to steer in. No matter the circumstance, he always found a way to utilize his platform to create riveting, poetic, and powerful masterpieces for his family and peers. This was so fun to do, and I love Kam's energy in wanting peace and love with everything he engages with, including showing love to the podcast. Kam is not only a fantastic artist but a beautiful human being with an incredible mindset.

This conversation was needed, and if you're someone who appreciates an authentic and informative discussion, believe me when I say this, this episode is the podcast's most open-ended conversation of the year. This wasn't my first conversation with Glowz, so I already knew from the minute we linked up for the second time that this would eclipse our previous talk a couple of months back at the JFCRP Community Sitdown. Glowz is someone that you don't just know, she's an individual that tells powerful stories through her intricate wordplay and penmanship, and her creativity brings out aspects even her audience has said have changed them for the better. Glowz is an individual you know, listen to, see, and are inspired by because when she's given the platform to share a message, she becomes the story. With that being said, for this week's episode of The Safe Room, we open up to the story of Glowz a bit deeper while enlightening ourselves on the incarceration problem for Black individuals and the injustice of the Ontario Court System. Please take the time to listen to the full podcast episode, and follow Glowz on Instagram to know what piece of work she's in and other projects/initiatives taking place in the city. She's an excellent resource to reach out to and is always open to having those real talks if you're down for it.

We're back with another episode, and I'm so honored to have the one and only Kofi Frempong. Having Kofi on the podcast was fantastic, and his story on becoming an artist, which stems into a deep backstory on his origins, drawing in France, the self-doubt during his academic tenure, and growing out of his shell to tap into his accidental genius as he puts it, it feels if I was watching a documentary unfold right in front of me. Furthermore, Kofi shares his principles, and the inspiration for sharing his pieces through galleries, exhibits, and auctions is based on how much he loves people and wants to connect and hear their experiences. He takes this even further and elevates it where, in the literal sense, he paints their narrative on a canvas that describes many emotions. In addition, we played Taboo on The Safe Room, and you knew I had to come ready. Follow him immediately if you want to go check those out on Kofi's Instagram! Overall, this was an excellent conversation on a special occasion because this was the same day of the Meet The Youth 2022 event I got to MC and moderated when recording. Don't worry; that follow-up will be coming soon, but for now, enjoy this fascinating talk with my guest Kofi Frempong.

I recorded this just 30 minutes ago as I'm typing this out, but I was determined to get this episode out as soon as possible. We've all heard about the recent incidents at the Kultureland Festival and Kingston Fest, and I had to cover what happened. However, this new episode of The Safe Room focuses on Concert Culture, don't know if this concept exists already; if not, I was the first one to say it. Anyways, when we go out to concerts, whether you're the individual, artist/performer on stage, or even the event organizers, we rarely check our surroundings to see if the space we just entered is safe or welcoming. Many are pointing fingers at who to blame; personally, it's our fault. Although, the majority of the blame must be shifted to the event organizers for a lack-lustered effort to provide the necessities in food/beverages, spacing for crowd members, audio quality/performance, on-guard security, and so much more. Take a listen to this episode, and let's open up to how concert culture may be impacted to our distance from in-person events from the fan perspective; artists' fear of losing their fanbase from the performer perspective; and organizers' lack of knowledge and adaptability to these chaotic settings from the individual perspective.

I'm so glad to have Shemar as my guest on the new episode of The Safe Room podcast. Last week, I met Shemar at a General Council Meeting for the Humber River-Black Creek Youth Council, where we had a great conversation. It felt as if I knew Shemar from somewhere based on our talk. I found out later that he attends York University and studies Law and Society, similar to my major, Business and Society. Some would say it's faith, while others would say a perfect opportunity was lined up. Shemar is the VP of External for the youth council and part of Generation Chosen, an organization addressing issues in marginalized communities and enhancing the emotional intelligence of youth. We take the time to share Shemar's story, growing up in Jane and Grandravine, and how it has shaped him to communicate his passion for community capacity building and the need for advocacy of upcoming youth leaders. In addition, as the title of this episode didn't give it away, we talk about Marvel Studios and the possibility that the overload of projects in Phase 4 and what's next for Phase 5 & 6 may be killing the product in terms of overall quality and story development. There's a lot of ground to cover from this episode, so take a seat and get ready for this one!

The first episode of many on the Roadto#100, and I'm delighted to have a special guest on my podcast. This week I'm joined by 80, an upcoming rapper with a distinguished sound and a grind like no other. However, when I first met him, I knew him as Axel, another Black King looking to make his way in his craft. This episode is split into two parts because I want you guys to get a good glimpse of 80 when he's open, expressive, and determined in his music and creativity. The main point of this episode is to talk about the L's we take in life and how they're not losses but lessons. This isn't to say that we are bypassing the thought of a loss, but we need to acknowledge it because it happens in life and learn from our mistakes to convert them into winning opportunities and accomplishments. That's where the lesson comes into play. We got a new segment, a guest with a deep retrospective on himself and the people he associates with, and another banger of an episode of The Safe Room Podcast. When will Part 2 come out? You'll have to tune into the podcast and find out!

Another episode has come for The Safe room, but not just any episode; it's the 75th episode of the podcast. Not only did I need a banger of a topic, but I needed to get amazing guests for this milestone. That said, I got two phenomenal individuals who are the host of the Hustle Over Everything Podcast to discuss the recent incident of the Rogers outage, the status quo of monopolies in the industry, and the market power of oligopolies. Joining the podcast this week are Alex Whitfeld and Owen Osinde, two brothers in beginning their journey started as solo podcasters. By faith, it led them to establish one of the most recognized podcasts for conversations around business, entrepreneurship, and education. This episode gave everything you could ask of The Safe Room, informing takes that serve to critically analyze the next steps of Rogers while addressing the complaints of their loyal customers having to recover during this period. Also, there were moments where the vibe was just there, before, during, and after we finished the episode. I'm so grateful to finally have Alex and Owen on my podcast and celebrate 75 episodes on hard work, commitment, and showcasing my unapologetic personality. Now, we're officially starting the countdown to 100!

After dealing with an entire pandemic that resulted in lockdowns, vaccine mandates, restrictions to travel, and a short-term recession for businesses in the market, the rumor has come up that Canada may be experiencing a far more long-term recession shortly. However, we must ask ourselves if this possibility of a late 2022 recession will happen? This week on The Safe Room, I investigate this theory of Canada experiencing another recession according to economists and Canadian banks. We've noticed the pricing fluctuations in gas and food, a staggering employment rate, increased housing interest rates, and an overall decrease in housing sales. Is it fair to say that all these factors lie in Canada's most prolonged recession in the last 40 years? Or is the market readjusting due to the repercussions of the pandemic? Or, to take it a step further, should it take a possible recession for the Canadian government to address the disparity gaps in Toronto rather than ahead of time? This conversation looks to tackle all these issues and provide insight into the situation.

We're approaching the midpoint of 2022, so I think it's time we look back at some of the music that has dropped this year. We've got a lot of good music, whether it was from our favorite artists, long-awaited returns, or new artists in the industry, but those albums had us listening to every day so far. Joining The Safe Room this week is another music lover, Duke, from Return of the Mak Podcast, as we both share our albums of the year so far with plenty of 2022 left to go. Also, we go over the most discussed album in the last week (positively or negatively regardless). Did Drake flop big time with his new album "Honestly, Nevermind?" Is Beyonce following a similar approach to her upcoming album? More importantly, what does it mean for artists to try different bags of their artistry (Sound, Genre, etc.)? Should the effort always be there, even if the album is good or bad? Or is it because the status of the artist's commitment to effort becomes irrelevant? This episode is hilarious, and Duke and I are here to give it to you straight, with no filter whatsoever.
If you want to hear Duke's take on the Drake album, listen to his recent episode right now!

This is easily my biggest guest so far on The Safe Room Podcast! This week I'm so thrilled to be joined by the wonderful, talented, Juno award-winning, Montreal-born artist known as TOME. If there's anything you should know about TOME, she's a determined Black female independent artist who demonstrates confidence in her sound and production and understands the business side of being a musician. Her music is symbolized through Afrofusion, a perfect mix of Afro and R&B that compliments each other and exudes messages of manifestation, social justice, and self-love through her songs and discography. She has shared the stage with top-tier Nigerian artists such as WizKid, and Burna Boy, collaborated with King Promise, Runtown, Zlatan, Wavy the Creator, and Sean Kingston, not to mention going on tour with Mr. Eazi. Her Juno Award comes from winning Reggae Recording of the Year for her song "I Pray," She has dropped her sophomore album Lov this year and is just getting started.
Today, we go more into depth behind the phenomenal woman that's TOME, learning about her motivations as an artist and providing excellent feedback on the environment of the music industry. Believe me, when I say this, TOME is a force to be reckoned with, and I wish her nothing but the best moving forward. She's a perfect example of someone who committed to the work, despite trials and tribulations and reaped the benefits. I had a fantastic time with her, and I'm hoping this won't be the last time she'll be back on the podcast.

This week on The Safe Room, I'm delighted to have this fantastic and inspirational energy/mindset/fitness coach discuss the movement she has created for upcoming entrepreneurs and individuals wanting to boost their confidence. Nicole Hosang has done her passion for over 15 years, and in this episode, she shares the origins of Intuition and how you can unlock the door to financial and spiritual success. We discuss how we all strive to perfect everything we do, whether physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. The biggest takeaway I asked Nicole for Intuition was she responded that she wants her clients to be their authentic selves and establish a high level of consistency in whatever work they want to pursue. This was a fun time speaking with her, noting that she wants to start her podcast soon. When the time comes, we will welcome you in open arms!

We have a bonus episode of The Safe Room Podcast this time around. This week, Brian Smeenk is the President of the Merit Award Bursary Program, which provides opportunities and resources to secondary and postsecondary students through their mentorship programs, bursaries, and other services. Brian shares his experience working with Merit Award and how it was launched in the first place. This conversation goes deeper into the importance of supporting students through their academic careers and having alumni come back to amplify these messages to the next generation. I'm currently a member of the Merit Award Alumni Council, and it's great to go back into these schools and share the work the Merit Award Bursary Program is providing. Their annual wine raffle is on now, and tickets are for sale!

Have you ever heard these phrases: All Black Women can't get along with each other, Black Men don't know how to take pain or express their feelings, A Black Male/Female would never understand... If you have, it now becomes perceived notions on how Black Men and Women should think, act, and behave in social settings, whether around friends, family, relationships, etc. This week on the podcast, I'm joined with Natalie Nadeen of the Unapologetically Her Podcast to give a male and female perspective on the psyche of Black Males and Females judging or labeling each other. Where do these thoughts come from? Have they existed from time and become a cycle we venture back to when it happens? Is it due to the culture shift in the last 20 years and how we treat Black males and Females? In addition to learning more about Natalie's podcast, this conversation isn't an easy one to digest. Still, at the end of the conversation, I hope that hearing from Natalie and I may help you understand the points we're sharing and learn to manage how we treat Black Males and Females in today's society.

What do you get with two Black Male Podcasters passionate about their work, striving to be the best, and sharing a solid sentiment to address issues and share their perspectives? You get a special moment to hear these two gentlemen on the same podcast episode. This week on The Safe Room, I welcome Ibou, or most of you may know him as Mr. Activated, to talk about his Activated Podcast and how traveling around the world has allowed his brand to expand from podcasting to hosting to vlogging. Also, we have a serious conversation about the Uvalde Shooting and the disciple actions. We break down talking points such as America's greed for capitalism through politicians/senators and pushing for gun control in the United States. This conversation starts on a deep approach but eventually flows into a relaxing listen to hear about Ibou's story and how his level of consistency, from starting with not much to having the skill to make it happen, is an accomplishment. As for the Uvalde shooting, condolences to the families of those killed, but we need action! Something must be done! Stop with the apologies and condolences and do something about it!

It's been a while since I've done a Playback episode on The Safe Room, last year to be exact. I'm so glad to be doing this late at night where I should be getting some rest, but sometimes the President doesn't sleep. Anyways, this conversation speaks on three main topics. First, I give my final verdict and review of Kendrick Lamar's latest album Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. Was it pass or trash? Also, we have a deep discussion around labeling artists based on their genre after the questionable winners from this year's Billboard Awards. Finally, I talk shortly about the Junos and giving the credit to those artists: Haviah Mighty, Zenesoul, etc. for their accomplishments and for making the community proud of their hard work. This episode is stacked with music all over it, but like I said it's late at night so I' have to watch my tone if you know what I mean.

Can I ask an honest question? What is it about Canadian Politics? We understand that there are 3 levels of government: Federal, Provincial, and Municipal. However, as each election passes by, my enthusiasm to engage with the political parties, their platforms, and the entire feel of the Premier race has dropped every single time. To the point where I feel this sense of irrelevancy with Canadian Politics. Although, that's not me justifying that you shouldn't care about Canadian Politics. This week on The Safe Room, I give my take on why the narrative of Canadian Politics has been pre-constructed to make us choose what we already know, that being the ongoing debate between Left Wing (Liberal) vs. Right Wing (Conservatives). Such talking points include the representation of political parties, asking if there's a paradigm shift in terms of the narrative being told, and even calling out ourselves on how we portray Canadian politics during and after election time. In addition, we talk a little bit about music, particularly Kendrick Lamar's long-anticipated album "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers". What are the expectations for this album after Kendrick's hiatus for 5 years since DAMN? This episode may have you think one way about my perspective on my view of Canadian Politics, even to the point where you may agree or argue against it. But to quote Kendrick from his lastest single The Heart Pt. 5 - "... My perspective may differ from yours". Let's talk about it!

This week on The Safe Room, we have a surprise guest to join our conversation on Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter for $44 Billion dollars. Nyimka-Nichole is a Youtube Personality for Tea Talk Toronto, which covers the world of pop culture by sharing her opinions and all the top stories surrounding celebrity gossip. Nichole and I met a couple of days ago at a networking workshop, and in the span of 24 hours, we connected again to be here on the podcast. She's a wonderful person with a charismatic energy that she personifies in all aspects. Our conversation in this episode spans deeper than the Elon Musk Twitter situation, we also cover Mental Health Awareness Month and cover the origins behind her successful YouTube channel. Out of all the episodes I've done, this was the most hilarious easily, not to put down all the amazing guests I've had the pleasure to have. But when you have two fellow Grenadians who share so much in a small amount of time of knowing each other, that's more to say than anything I could think of. This is a conversation that's authentic, funny, and to quote Nichole... Spills the Tea!

After the success of the TSR March Madness Tournament, I thought it would be fun to make my own picks of my top Disney Channel Original Movies. This time, I created a tier list based on each movie's significance, characters, plot, and moments to create this list. This was an idea months prior to the introduction of the March Madness tournament, but it was still awesome to do for myself and all of you listening. This is completely opinionated, so feel free to share your personal tier list. I feel so good to be back after such a long break, so get ready for the consistent episodes again because the President is back here in The Safe Room!

The Safe Room is a podcast for open and in-depth conversations with those who want to share their perspectives willingly. Hosted by Shon Williams, The Safe Room is the perfect blend of social, cultural, and political issues related to our daily lives/communities, and stimulating/intriguing topics for the general listener.
This episode has so much significance to it because, in the history of The Safe Room, this is the first in-person interview I've done for the podcast. This conversation was utterly open with no structure whatsoever, but it made it so much better to enjoy the moment for what it was. I'm finally back with another episode of The Safe Room Podcast with my special guest, an individual I've been watching for a while, the creative and excellent Jeff Carpio, or you may know him as Kamuni. He is a creator and YouTuber who uses elements of himself to create innovative ideas, videos, and imagery that speaks to powerful messages personally and on a broad scale. This isn't his first appearance on the podcast; Go back into the archives of The Safe Room, and you'll find him on the early goings of the podcast. Over time, Jeff has grown from his past struggles and has shaped his work to have a purpose, finding happiness within it. Our discussion went into so many avenues of retrospective and therapeutic levels of advice and sharing knowledge.
We covered a range of topics: How important is the content we as creators share with our audience and on social media platforms, The practice/environment of toxic masculinity, overcoming insecurities that have been symbolized through social norms, Going into the latest music in 2022 and touching on the purpose music brings from a listener's perspective, Unpacking the events of the Will Smith/Chris Rock scuffle at the 2022 Oscars, and ending off with finding happiness with the work you do as a creator. It's a lot to take in, but Jeff and I have a blast doing so. In addition, that all of this happened in person just made it a memorable moment that will stay within the history of The Safe Room. I couldn't ask for a better guest to hit this remarkable milestone this short into the podcast's run.

First things first, apologies for the hiatus. Anyways, this special edition episode of The Safe Room highlights Black History Month. I go over the value and significance of BHM within today's society from various perspectives. Has the structure of Black History Month run its course to questioning a change in a month or advocating for equality on a day-to-day basis? How can we improve the status of Black History Month overall? Academic institutions fail to include or acknowledge Black history with curriculum models in middle, secondary, and post-secondary schools, not to mention the invisible role the staff/administration play. Community organizations, members, and grassroots groups in the Black community are overlooked for their services. In addition, workplaces/businesses treat BHM as a regular day with minimal interaction to amplify messages of Black success. Finally, is there a possibility for reparations towards the Black population within Canada and the United States? If so, what models can be implemented, and are there already examples we can look to right now. This episode is a critical analysis of the idea of Black History Month and how it's symbolized throughout our society.

This is the most important episode of The Safe Room to this day. On January 14, 2022, my main Instagram Account: thesaferoompodcast was hacked. My email, password, and phone number were changed, and unfortunately, my two-step verification wasn't turned on. Ever since that day, I've sent emails with no responses, visited the Instagram Help Center with nothing to offer, spoke to Facebook representatives whose assistance wasn't helpful, even messaging the CEO of Instagram twice with not a single word back. This hacker has been utilizing my platform to message my followers and promote content on Bitcoin-related posts. It's come to the conclusion that Instagram, a billion-dollar company has no customer service whatsoever. From a business standpoint, it makes zero sense why this isn't implemented to solve any issues that might hinder the success of the company. From a content creator's standpoint, Instagram isn't willing to address this problem unless their profitability is affected in a huge manner. With the talks of all this hacking starting from last year in August, this has been mistreated and other accounts and myself are having to suffer through this. This episode is to address my situation from top to bottom, letting everyone know about the truth, and most importantly, holding Instagram accountable for not listening to its users in providing customer service to all. Please share this episode with anyone who can get the attention of Instagram to solve my problem and establish customer service within Instagram period.

For most people in Toronto, we remember January 17, 2022, the insane Snow Storm that saw over 60cm poured down from the heavens for the entire day. It was just another Monday conversation for myself and my special guest: Arys Dejan - Artist/Creator/Podcast Host. In this week's episode on The Safe Room, I opened up to Arys my theory on what we could be reminiscing in music 10-20 years from now? Is there a chance that the biggest songs from the most prominent artists today will still be in our hearts when time moves forward? Are we forever stuck remembering our childhood memories and the hits we grew up to before hitting our teenage and adolescent years? In addition, we talk about Arys' unique story to him being confident in his work and continuing to expand his platform. This conversation has everything, from callbacks to our favorite music shows when we were young to breakdowns in music rollouts, quality from rappers, even some Chris Brown banter. Although January 14, 2022, wasn't pretty outside, Arys and I were having a phenomenal conversation inside on the podcast.

This week, let's appreciate women empowerment and self-worth as we invite one of the more vocal, self-driven, and community-based organizations to The Safe Room, Flaunt It. Joining this conversation on the movement's accomplishments, core values/mandate, and expanding on the importance of establishing safe spaces for Black, Indigenous, POC women is Programs Manager Shenali Don and Creative Director (Events/Campaigns) Richelle Nelson. Flaunt It is a grassroots youth-led organization that fosters self-love and highly esteemed representation. We go over their work in the community and why this "sisterhood" continues to grow a platform/environment for artistic voices to be amplified by women. In addition, we'll also cover the contrast between men and women correlating to finding one's self-worth and prioritizing mental health. This conversation is a perfect mix of shared experiences and opinionated takes, combined with historical context towards the origins and use of self-care. We must support our community, especially those who put so much into creating avenues for marginalized populations such as Flaunt It is doing.

The first episode of 2022 kicks off how we ended 2021 for The Safe Room with the President and host, Shon Williams. Today, I wanted to share my experience and go over following your goals/interests in 2022 and establishing consistency, time management, and organization. There are different techniques we can use for assisting us to be focused on accomplishing our objectives: Setting up reminders and utilizing notes/calendars, as well prioritizing tasks in daily planners. However, what's most important is finding the interest that brings passion to ourselves and makes us happy at the end of the day. You'll get a taste of my interests before this podcast originated, how I handled the situation, and what life lessons I learned from the experience. Overall, this episode encourages all of us to chase our dreams and establish consistency, not just through quantitative measurements. Furthermore, finding the interest for you is no rush, but we should take the initiative to put our ideas/goals into action, turning them from fantasy into reality.

It's the final episode of 2021! We all have a New Year's resolution on what we want to improve or achieve going into the following year. But we must ask the question: Are these resolutions getting redundant in promising to do certain things, only to abandon them immediately at the beginning of the year? Or is it New Year Resolutions that should focus on what makes us happy and how we can take away from something and build upon it moving forward? I want to say that 2021 was an awesome year for the podcast, and I'm so glad for everyone who's supported me through this journey. Happy New Year everyone! Cheers to 2022!

In the great words of Jason Derulo, "I'm Ridin' Solo." This week on The Safe Room, we discussed the one topic that brought some attention to me and how we may see plans to implement this proposal sooner than later, increasing the minimum wage. Andrea Horwath wants to raise the minimum wage to $20 by 2026 to provide equality in compensation for workers in Canada. I go over the implications for establishing this model in today's society and why they shouldn't proceed with this plan. Evaluating both perspectives, we critically analyze the role of employment (increased or stagnation), local businesses and their organizational structures, plus the hierarchies in occupations that require low skill and high skill. But an important question to ask is if the current status of the minimum wage is the issue we should be addressing? Or is it the lack of accessibility to find higher-wage jobs for people, especially racialized minorities in our communities?

This week on The Safe Room, the excellent Chid Suzan, host of the But What Do I Know Podcast, and myself discuss the life of a content creator in 2021. What are the different types of content creators we designate in our spare time? The importance of financial literacy and compensation towards the creator as a reward and an end to the content we produce. Get to understand how social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, even podcast platforms like Apples Podcasts and Spotify work on algorithmic patterns to showcase podcasts that fit the mold. But most importantly, be content with the platform you've established and learn to amplify it through your audience. Suppose you're someone who has piqued an interest in the world of podcasting. In that case, this episode provides a contextual background of the Content Creator Community with the shared experience of an upcoming, top-tier podcaster like Chid Suzan. Let's open up to this conversation and create the change we wish to see.

Today, I want to take a deep dive behind the music... the sound that you've heard recently in my podcast intro and outros. On October 24, I officially a soundtrack for the podcast called First Lady, but some may be curious about how this track came to be and what it meant creating this song in the first place? I invited the man behind the production and assisted me throughout the final stages: Ricky Smalls. Ricky is a talented producer who has an excellent taste for varieties of sound and rhythm, which he elevates through his instrumentals. Today, we discussed coming together for the first time and how the process was working on the track. Plus, Ricky shares his backstory on what got him into production and engineering, the difference between self-taught and educated producers, the capitalistic structure of the exploitation of artists (Grammy Committee). In addition, a meaningful conversation of Men's Mental Health Awareness Month to address self-care and how toxic masculinity connects as a shield to protect a male's mental health. It was such a pleasure to have Ricky on this podcast and help make this track a reality. Who knows, I may do a breakdown video very soon.

This week, we have a pillar in the Jane Finch Community who continues to make an impact in the Arts and now Business side of things with the launch of ArtWorxTO. We welcome Nathan Baya to The Safe Room Podcast. Nathan is an individual who holds many titles and positions including artist, facilitator, community advocate, father, etc. But one thing that’s for sure is Nathan’s love and passion for his community and wanting to inspire upcoming artists to maximize their potential.
This week we talk about the appreciation and issue of community spaces. As much as we struggle to establish community spaces due to barriers such as financial resources with grants, educational tools such as financial literacy, and the lack for motivation. It’s important to acknowledge the spaces that reside today who are making a resounding impact and how to appreciate the work they have committed. This conversation is deep and comes from a retrospective of community voice but also the urgency to establish strategies such as implementing community grant programs and financial literacy in academic institutions.

It's the topic that has everyone talking. on November 5, 2021 the Astroworld Festival in Houston, TX ended in tragedy and controversy with the mass casualties and lack of organization/supervision of the festival. Joining The Safe Room from the Conflict N Interest Podcast, Eliott Camargo and Elijah Manning, we breakdown the entire situation and discuss who's should be hold accountable for these actions. How much does this affect Travis Scott? How much blame is to be put on the attendees? How will other artists approach this moving forward with their concerts? Also, the one day that is rarely dives into deep conversation is Remembrance Day. As we celebrate those who've laid down their lives for our country and freedom, we open the floor for a tough talk on the history of Black soldiers and their representation in the Canadian military. DISCLAIMER: This episode focuses on heavy subject matter. If not comfortable after the recent actions of the Astroworld Festival, it's not in your discretion to listen to this episode.

What an episode we have today! I'm joined with a young and upcoming artist in the Jane-Finch community that has taken her platform to higher echelons. Kibra Tesfaye, a Toronto musician whose style of music favours to smooth and jazzy vocals and instrumentals, shares her illustrious story as an artist in all aspects. Listen to her speak on how her songs are to symbolize strong messages advocating for self-love and activism in our communities. How she has grown from her first EP to her smash single "All That", and the impact she leaves on herself and those following her journey. With so much accomplished under her career in a small amount of time, she exudes veteran leadership to upcoming youth looking to state the voice in the music industry. Shon and Kibra also take the time to discuss all things music around the world. The moral of this conversation is to appreciate the craft you have established, and using our voice as a tool to narrate the lived experiences that we see every single day in our communities. By all means, let your voice be heard and let no one take that away from you.

We are back! This time, The Safe Room gives another opportunity for individuals to host their conversations on whatever topic they choose to discuss. Here's some background:
Ten individuals were selected after a "Best Caribbean Drink Ever" Tournament. In agreement, those individuals would get a chance to host The Safe Room personally. Our first ever special host was Kayla George, this week we have two special hosts: Deshondre Williams & Kevin Obeng. Kevin is a co-host with Shon to the Court Advantage Podcast, a sports podcast discussing the rumours and highlights in sports. Deshondre is a York University student studying in Kinesiology, with interests in anatomy and biology. In this episode, these gentlemen open the floor to the world of sports health: The importance of strength and conditioning for exercising, examining the practice of kinesiology and the human body, but of course, getting into everything sports. Let just say... it's a combination of Court Advantage and The Safe Room in one!

Following her resignation as party leader of the Green Party of Canada, Annamie Paul has gone off record to say this was the "worst period of her life". I offer the notion of The Forbidden Door, the divided line between community and politics. Paul's work prior to politics revolved heavily on international public affairs and public policy, with little political experience. What happens to those who try to step into the realm of politics? Politics have painted the simple narrative that you MUST have a choice of side: Left or Right. I breakdown how political parties, leaders, and politics in its entirety force those who enter in this field to follow a given ideology of how politics is suppose to be operated. In the end we ask the hard-hitting questions: Should this "forbidden door" be removed? How has society contributed to the gap between community and the state at large?

The Safe Room welcomes a new face to the podcast, but for some who watch the Court Advantage Podcast, he's an OG. This week, Thien and I share our personal experiences from starting as introverts looking to make a difference to growing into our own person. All of us aspire to be the leaders/voices in our community, but every leader needs a supporting cast that will believe in your vision, but also challenge to do better in other aspects. This is a two-way street. What's the importance between those who support you and the ones that give you support in your lives? Overall, our awareness to find the right friends/family is what makes getting to the top more satisfying than ever.

As a York student, has it ever ponder to why some undergraduates/graduates view Law students as separate or isolated from the totality of the university? If not, this conversation addresses this subject matter through the experiences of students from Osgoode Law School. Please welcome Karan, Piraveena, and Lucinda: Three fantastic individuals who share a strong relationship with each other, but also the passion towards the various realms of Law. Except Criminal Law... they'll tell you that personally. This week on The Safe Room, these ladies entail their past and current involvement with Osgoode, emphasizing the importance Law plays as a social actor/representative in communities that serves to look with the public interests. From ethical lawyering to litigation, Karan, Piraveena, and Lucinda embark us on a conversation that covers a professional field that most thinkers are critically evaluating in contemporary societies today, and even under an institution.

This week on the podcast, I share my experience at York University. Everything that could possibly be mentioned: The ups and downs, the good, bad, and ugly. Heading into my fourth and hopefully final year, I've learned so much in and out of the BUSO program, allowing to grow as an individual, but also as a version of myself that appreciates others' work. Getting involved with student club and making those connections, to obtaining skills in the lecture halls, even going out to social events, albeit I wasn't a party animal. Nevertheless, I open up to you guys about my university career and what you made see as rage when listening to this episode, it's only the passion I have every time I step on campus, or in this case, online to partake in a day with York.

This week, I discuss the importance and prestige of Music Award Shows. We remember watching these as a child, defining them as super shows that couldn't be toppled. Fast forward, it's hard to make that same argument as fans and even artists have express their lack of intrigue to these award shows (Grammys, Billboard, BET, VMAs). Many reasons have to do with the increase of live concert events like Rolling Loud and Coachella, as well award committees informal structure to making these award shows and category selection adequate. So how would I fix it?

This week on The Safe Room, I invited Dominic Justina to discuss about her podcast and what inspired to become a creator, and her passion for others to find their self-mastery. Also, what would it feel like to move back to the Caribbean and start a new lifestyle? What are the implications? Why do we have these feelings inside? Are we chasing the escape of the city for the islands, to enjoy the natural sense of the Caribbean? Or do we want to go back and make a social impact? We get into deep... different individuals but from the same tribe. TUNE INTO THE END FOR AN IMPORTANT STATEMENT!

What is Community work without any action? How much effort do we put into the community before we ask ourselves... What's the end goal? This week, I talk on two perspectives for working for the community and working within the community. How can we evaluate both and find common ground to obtain the results and achieve the next steps we plan that are either restricted, limited, or never completed. But most importantly, how can we apply our experience to community work and utilize it for our own goals we want to set that benefits us, while at the same time, helping out the community.

Welcome to The Safe Room's 2nd annual Old School vs. New School conversation. We got topics that we'll get you intrigued and wanting to talk about with your friends. Sampling/Reboots: Has the art of sampling been tarnished? Is it a big deal? Has it enhance music over the years? | 90s & 00s: Are we close in terms of views and ideologies to Black Culture, but more importantly, our own beliefs (Ex: What we like/enjoy, what is wrong, how we approach certain situations, etc.)? “New Style” for New School: Is the New School taking the things we love from Old School and making it their own? Or is it original? Join the crew (Shenel, Emily, Vanessa, Tinuola, Andre, Shenikqwa, and Ladi) with the President (Shon) for a fantastic two-part discussion.

Going solo for this episode. This week I talk the one thing we too "humble" to admit... and that's we NEED technology! But why? What do we use for? How much of an impact does it have in our lives? More importantly, do we need technology or do we need to do a better job managing our technological devices? In the end, technology isn't digital, IT'S KNOWLEDGE!

This is it. The Season Finale is here and I'm so proud to have made it this far. Now, if anyone knows about Black Brilliance, it has been a conference that has been the highlight of the school year for the Toronto District School Board. But no one really knows what inspired us to create Black Brilliance in the first place.
Today I'm joined with Toni Morgan, the woman behind the amazing Harvard University Trip in 2016, and we discuss on the origins of Black Brilliance and how everything fell into place. Also, we go over Toni's story: Her involvement in the community in Toronto, her upcoming and how she faced all adversity and overcame everything, and conclude with a discussion of her new podcast "The Gall! Podcast".
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who joining me on this rollercoaster of a journey. Season 2 will be bigger and better, but I will always be the same President!

2 BRONX BOYS, 2 AFRICANS BROTHERS, AND A PRESIDENT! Today on The Safe Room we discuss on the Summer of 2020. What it could've been? What actually happened? Negatives or Positives? This year has given us lots of surprises and unexpected moments, however we don't need to always focus on the negative aspect of life. We can figure out what we want to do when we establish a positive mindset for ourselves; this episode hopes to accomplish that by talking on the negatives in order to learn and create our own positives moving forward.
