Today is Crian's choice and he is the King of Repetition. We spend time talking about the games we are playing including Horizon Forbidden West and Wasteland 3. Today's topic is grinding. We figure out that grinding is okay when you are younger but when you don't have time, it just makes for an irritating game experience. What do you think? Tweet us at @GamingAged
The Terrific Trio are back with the latest games they have played including Horizon Forbidden West and Wasteland 3. We also dive into the drastic way game development has changed. A reference to X-Men since Crian is a big fan of the franchise. Today we talk about the show. Where it is going? Where it has come from. We give you some insights into the metrics of how it is performing. From the videos to the podcast we talk about it all. TLDR. We are going to keep going. At the end of the day, it's fun for us to gather together and talk about games.
Being the Playstation gamers that Adam and Antoine are. They dive into a discussion about everyone's highly anticipated game of 2022. Horizon Forbidden West. They haven't finished it yet of course but if you have been thinking about whether to pick this up or not, then this is the episode for you.
Because Antoine couldn't make it today. We decided to skip today's planned topic and dive into the idea of game subscription services. Adam and Crian focus mostly on Playstations' upcoming Game Pass competitor.
Phil and Adam are absent for today's episode due to real world commitments. But Antoine and Crian fill in the space and talk about so many things including the games they are playing, representation in gaming and a little bit of gaming news. An episode not to be missed!
You've seen all the purchases this past two months. Where is the gaming industry going? What is going to happen in the future? Is this good for consumers? What about the developers. This and more are some of the questions asked on today's episode.

Welcome back middle aged gamers. It’s Crian doing my first trailer in a very long time. In today’s episode we get down to the nitty gritty of the games we have been playing for the last month or so. I fill us in on Hearthstone Mercenaries and Adam talks about the very artistic game Othercide. This episode was recorded on November 17th 2021. We haven’t talked about games in what seems like forever so today we are going to give you a more in depth look at two games we have been playing. We talk about the good, bad and ugly. We end of the show talking about some bits of gaming news including the way esports is changing the real estate industry and the PS5 being hacked to run Linux. Hi Folks, No script today, Adam has prepared a list of 25 games which have been remade or remasters. Among those, we will talk about Warcraft 3, Onimusha, Trials of mana and many more. Welcome to another episode from Middle Aged Gaming. Today’s topic is ‘video games which have spawned movies’. Adam, Antoine and Phil watch the trailers to a mixture of well known and obscure movie titles, whilst comparing them to their original video game. Have there been any movies which our hosts can agree have captured the audience (or the authenticity of the game)? More importantly, how much money did these films lose? We pay special homage to the infamous Uwe Boll who has directed and committed numerous atrocities in the pursuit of movie success. In this podcast the audio from all movie trailers has been removed for listener ease; however, should you wish to watch the videos alongside our commentary you can find the unedited episode on our YouTube channel: Middle Aged Gaming. Our discussions circle around the following movies: Street Fighter (1994) Super Mario Bros. (1993) In the Name of the King (2007) Max Payne (2008) BloodRayne (2005) Postal (2007) Dead or Alive (2006) Wing Commander (1999) Alone in the Dark (2005)
Thanks Adam for doing the english version of Instant Lore! Here is the first episode of Horizon Zero Dawn lore and we star off with the big bad guy, Ted Faro himself! Make sure to tell us if you like this format and we'll do much much more!
2-ème partie de l'instant Lore sur Horizon Zero Down. Aujourd'hui, nous allons faire la connaissance du Dr. Elisabeth Sobeck, la mère du projet Zero Down.

Welcome to an exciting episode in which Middle Aged Gaming celebrates its one year anniversary. Hosts Adam, Antoine and Phil (along with special comments from Crian) analyse their past, present and future games that deserve an honourable mention. Which exciting games have caught their attention, and can they sell you the gaming experience in a few minutes? Antoine Past: based on a visual novel and linked with an anime series, can you get more quintessentially Antoine than Stein’s Gate? Present: city building RTS game Anno 1880. Future: the action role playing game, Scarlet Nexus which was released in July. Phil Past: dungeon roaming multiplayer Nine Parchments gets a special mention Present: Vermintide 2… better than Balder’s Gate: Dark Alliance? Future: with all the hosts enjoying FFXIV, what will the newest expansion Endwalker bring us in November? Adam Past: Windbound, the survival game set sailing the dreaded seas, hold fond memories. Present: everyone is raging about Ghost of Tsushima (Sushime)… now it’s time for Adam to rave about it too! Future: after the success of Horizon Zero Dawn, is it a given that Horizon Forbidden West will be another sparkling gem?

Hello everyone and welcome back to the middle age gaming podcast! Today, The lads are gonna pick their brain with their favorite Puzzle game. Professor Layton, Trine and the thirteens doll. Come abd talk to us about your favorite puzzle games on our facebook and youtube page or at middleagegaming2020@gmail.com
In today's episode, the hosts of MAG (sans Crian) go over some of their favorite classic Nintendo franchises, which just so happen to be... https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/mario-party-superstars-switch/ (Mario Party (Phil)) Do you like board games? Do you like mini-games? Well we've got you covered with this franchise dating back to the age of the N64. Whether you enjoy dice rolls, button mashing, co-op, or head to head competition, this game is going to satisfy your every need and more. There ain't no party like a Mario Party. https://www.zelda.com/ (The Legend of Zelda (Antoine)) Going back all the way to 1986, The Legend of Zelda helped set many of the standards now standard in gaming. From running between an overworld and dungeon delving in the original, to enemy lock-ons in Ocarina of Time, to the massive physics sandbox that is Breath of the Wild, this old geezer isn't slowing down any time soon. https://metroid.nintendo.com/ (Metroid (Adam)) Another entry from '86 (albiet a few months later), Metroid is no slouch when it comes to trend setting either. Heck, it has an entire genre named after it. How could you possibly beat that? By making more. Although Metroid hasn't received quite as much love as other flagship franchises when it comes to sequels, it's still a fan favorite. With a new game on the horizon, will it once again raise the bar? We'll have to wait and see.
Hello Middle Aged Gamers! The summer is slowly fading to an end. Luckily for us though, we have some shiny new release to help us beat the gloom of the approaching fall. Come and listen to Adam, Phil and Antoine as they are discussing the next 3 titles to play this year! Make sure to leave us a comment and tell us which future release you are exited about!
It’s time for another eyebrow-raising episode from MiddleAgedGaming for your audio pleasure. This week’s topic is the Esports phenomenon that has turned the gaming world into a spectator frenzy. All three major genres of FPS, RTS and fighting style games are considered, alongside wider implications of e-sports on game development or evolution. Phil - Starcraft 2 Starcraft was one of Blizzard’s greatest pre-World of Warcraft success stories that introduced the world of Terran, Protos and Zerg. Kerrigan returned in Starcraft 2, in a game that received favourable nods from plaudits. 11 years after it’s release and Starcraft 2 still has a strong following, but how much does region and location play a factor in this? Antoine - Valorant Relatively new to the Esports world, Valorant is a FPS from the same developers of League of Legends and is structured in a way to capture the hearts and souls of Counterstrike, Overwatch and Fortnite players. Is this a rising star that will rise to the top of the commercial world, or is it poised to struggle in an over Saturdays market? Adam - Super Smash Ultimate Nintento’s iconic fighter game has seen multiple editions with characters draw from across the extensive Nintendo back catalogue. To what degree has Super Smash evolved into the ideal game to bring in viewer crowds? How much of an Esports game is provided by nature vs nurture?
Not everyone's a gambler, but for better or worse it's become a big part of gaming. In today's episode, three of our hosts give their two cents on the value of loot boxes and their place in the industry. Antoine's Pick https://www.injustice.com/ (Injustice 2) You ever wonder what the world would be like if Superman was the bad guy? Yeah, that'd suck... would make a great game though! Injustice 2 is a fighter that sees all your favorite heros and villians duking it out to determine who is the strongest of them all. Sorry, Batman. No prep time on this one. Phil's Pick https://www.ea.com/games/fifa/fifa-22 (FIFA (series)) We might not argree on the terminology, but there's no denying that football is a world wide sensation. FIFA sees the game being brought off the pitch (or "field" for you Americans) and into your living room. Adam's Pick https://euw.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/ (League of Legends) The grandfather of MOBAs, League of Legends is still going strong today. What's more, it's one of the original pioneers in the current free-to-play gaming model that has become popular in games like Fortnite and Apex Legends. For something that costs $0 to become so lucrative, they must be doing something right.
Hello everyone, it’s Crian and I am back with another episode where I am the star. Just kidding! In today’s episode we once more dive into the endless sloshing ocean that is live service games. This week’s episode is entitled: “Living La Live Service Loca.” It was recorded on July 20th, 2021 Today each person has chosen a live service game or their interpretation of a live service game. They will explain how they interpreted today’s topic and then give us their viewpoint and take on live service gaming. We conclude the show talking about the hot topic i.e https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck (The Steam Deck) and the plans for the week and an exciting new topic for the podcast next week. A side note, this will be my last episode for a while until I can re-balance my schedule. Until then, you will have the pleasure of listening to Adam, Phil and Antoine. How are you? What are you playing these days? Yes, I am talking to you audience! Today we want to talk about gaming together. Y’all have seen Crian and Adam game once. Phil and Antoine and doing it more frequently. But coop gaming is something special. Be it with your partner, brothers or just random people online. Join us in this podcast to get the MAG team insights on Co-op Gaming!
Hello Folks and welcome back to Middle Aged Gaming. As you may have heard in previous podcast and videos, I am in serious need of upgrading my microphone. Crian is kind enough to join me in my shopping today. The requirements are easy, what’s the best bang for my buck at less than 100 CAD$. I already shortlisted 2 mics which are the HyperX SoloCast and the Razer Seiren Mini. I am a complete novice when it comes to microphones so while comparing these mics, we will also review what makes a good mic.
It’s every American’s favourite birthday, July 4th, and our resident American host has chosen ‘spin-off’ games for today’s theme. Crian, Adam, Antoine, and Phil discuss a variety of games that have broken free from the shackles of their oppressive feature titles. Is it a case of who dares, wins… or… if it’s not broken, don’t fix it? Antoine: Pokemon Snap Who can resist the need to throw things at cute cuddly creatures for your own perverse pleasure? With the recent release of New Pokemon Snap on Switch, Antoine reminisces about the joyful days of the original N64 Pokemon Snap. Phil: Until Dawn: Rush of Blood Until Dawn and it’s sequel are PS4 titles designed to get your blood pumping in a homage to 90s style slasher films; however, the original butterfly system gave way to a roller-coaster VR experience. But, how effectively did the spin-off embrace its potential? Adam: Metal Gear Survive 1998’s Metal Gear Solid returned in a variety of sequels which were designed to test the players ability to sneak and stealth their way through sticky situations. Who can go wrong by throwing in a parallel dimension with zombies and tower defences? Apparently, Konami can, with this underperforming title. Crian: Dragon Quest Builders 2 Returning to last weeks publisher, Square Enix, Crian discusses this sandbox hack-and-slash spin-off which received positive reviews from most critics. So, where did the game improve and how successful were the changes?
It's hip to be a square, and that's why today's episode is dedicated to four games from the Square Enix catalog that our four hosts have yet to play. Do any of our choices catch your fancy? Let us know in the comments: Adam's Game: https://square-enix-games.com/neotwewy/en-us/ (NEO: The world ends with you) A sequel to the 2007 NDS hit, NEO: The World Ends with You sees you playing the "Reapers Game" in order to A) be granted any wish and B) not be erased from existence. The stakes are high and you'll be playing for keeps in this psychokinetic beat-em-up. Antoine's Game: https://square-enix-games.com/en_US/games/tomb-raider (The Tomb Raider Trilogy) She's no spring chicken, but our girl Lara Croft still has a few tricks up her sleeves. Rebooted in 2015, the Tomb Raider series has only gotten better with age. And like a fine French wine, Antoine knows quality when he sees it. Phil's Game: https://guardiansofthegalaxy.square-enix-games.com/en-us/?_ga=2.32434941.216667600.1625150064-1186251294.1625150064 (Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy) Althought it may not be his usual cup of tea, something about this game still managed to catch Phil's eye. The characters may not share the same familiar faces we've grown accustomed to on the big screen, but that doesn't mean they don't ooze the same charisma. Crian's Game Alright, this one is a bit of a misnomer. Crian forwent his choice in game to instead catch us up on some recent news and catching up on what everyone's been up to the last few weeks.
Hello everyone, it’s Crian and I am back with another episode edited my way. What way is that, I am not sure but let’s roll with it. Today we are going to be bringing you games, games and more games. Some of these may not be coming out soon but we still want to get you fired up about 2021 and 2022. The title of this week’s episode is: “E3 Games, Trailers and Reactions”. It was recorded on June 22nd, 2021. Today each person has picked two trailers that have come out in the last week. They will briefly introduce the game, afterwards, we will watch the trailer. You won’t be able to watch the trailers but all the links will be in the show notes if you are on Android. We apologize to Apple podcasts listeners. You will have to manually google the trailers because Apple doesn’t allow links to be posted in show notes. Post trailer watching, we will give you our reactions, thoughts and whatever two cents we have. Ideally, we are going to do eight trailers but we will see how much time we have. We run a bit out of time today so keep an eye out on social media for next week’s podcast episode. Like it or hate it, escapism into the gaming world is increasing difficult with the encroachment of real life aspects due to product placement, celebrity voice-overs and product placement. In this episode Crian, Adam, Antoine, and Phil discuss the fine nuances of this phenomenon and its implications to gaming. Adam: Need for Speed/Forza/Gran Turismo Racing games seem a perfect opportunity for car manufacturers to flaunt their vehicles, but what are the restrictions in place to protect their corporate image? Adam discusses the complex nature of companies allowing the inclusion of their cars, along with limitations that are placed on game developers regarding in-game play which protect their image. Antoine: Civilisation 6 & Wing Commander Celebrities play a huge role in society and is in inevitable that they would eventually seep into voice acting within games? Antoine focuses his attention on two classic games to discuss the impact of when we recognise a friendly voice whilst playing. Phil: Guitar Hero (Aerosmith) Another match made in heaven, but this time a guitar based game combining with a famous rock band. Phil discusses the stellar rise of an iconic system and then its subsequent downfall into obscurity. Was this due to a change of gaming habits, boredom with the system, the release of something bigger and better, or something else? Dance mats, Just Dance and Rocksmith all get a moment in the spotlight. Crian: Fortnite For younger listeners, Fortnite is one of the standout games that has attracted a huge following. More recently, Fortnite has included a variety of other paid characters to increase revenue, from comics, films and TV. Crian considers the success of this integration and discusses whether this blending is successful at bringing in more players or just an added distraction/bonus.
If you want to stay on top of the food chain you need to adapt to survive. In the world of gaming it's no different and, like it or not, that mean some of our favorite franchises have had to get with the times and change things up on occasion. Crian, Phil, and Adam talk about some examples that they feel really exemplify this ability to evolve with the times to provide a better gaming experience. Adam: Armored Core With 23 games under its belt, this "build-a-mech" franchise must be doing something right. Like the shark, cockroach, and crocodile before it, however, not too much has changed on the surface. So how has it survived so long? Adam gives us a lecture on how advances in controller technology has allowed this game to not only grow and adapt, but thrive. Phil: Grand Theft Auto Starting as a humble top down shooter, this franchise has grown into a monolith of the gaming industry. How did it do that? By becoming half shooter, half RPG, half racer, half life simulator, and 200% awesome (see, that math adds up). But like the panda, has all that success caused this franchise to become too fat and lazy to reproduce? Phil contemplates this question, and more. Crian: XCOM Yet another franchise that crawled out of the ooze way back in the 90's, this tactical squad based game has seen multiple divergent formats in its family tree. Some have worked, but others haven't quite taken root. Crian asks why this may be. What allows some franchises to thrive where others have withered and died?
Hey everyone. It’s me again but this time I really am supposed to be editing this episode. Today Adam couldn’t join us because he had some real-world things to take care of. Today I am joined by our new and popular hosts Antoine and Phil. The title of this week’s episode is: “Summer Blockbusters 2021”. It was recorded on June 1st, 2021. Summer is coming and there are usually some really hot games to look out for. You probably have your own list but in case you don’t, we have selected some games that we are looking forward to. I am going to be talking about a cute farm-sim called Hokko Life. Antoine is going to go back to his love of airships and talk about Black Skylands. Last Phil is going to end things talking about Dungeons and Dragons Dark Alliance. We conclude the show talking about the plans for the week and an exciting new topic for the podcast next week. Adam interviews the holder of several world record scores in the game Klax. But the rabbit hole goes even deeper as this particular guest has a special connection to the show. Who could it be and what is their relation? Guess you're just going to have to listen and find out.
Hi listeners and middle-aged gamers. Today’s episode was edited by Phil but the trailer and show notes have been penned by yours truly Crian. Today’s episode is entitled: “Expanding Gaming’s Horizons”. It was recorded on May 25th, 2021. Today Adam, Phil and Antoine talk about games that bring something in from outside. What that something is… is for you to listen to this episode to find out. Adam is going to talk about El-Shaddai. An interesting take on an action RPG which brings in story from an interesting place. Antoine talks about the famed Surviving Mars and its connections to the real world. Phil ends the show as usual talking about Star Trek: Bridge Crew (VR). We also talk about the VR industry and gaming in general. We end the show talking about the streaming schedule for the week as well as next week’s blockbuster episode. Hi listeners. A quick note before we start the usual trailer. We recorded this using Zencastr which unfortunately didn’t allow us to save Antoine’s audio. So the audio quality for this episode is going to be less than stellar because we had to extract the audio from the video file and then edit with that. Anyway. Enough with the technical stuff. Today you came here to talk about MMO’s. That is the title of this week’s episode: “Making MMO’s Matter”. It was recorded on May 18th, 2021. Today Adam, Phil and Antoine look at MMO’s from different lenses. Antoine is going to compare the classes in Final Fantasy 14 and World of Warcraft. Adam is going to talk about the clash of cultures in a game like Black Desert Online. Lastly Phil is going to end the show talking about something we all love. Warhammer. He’s going to talk about the latest hot mobile MMO: Warhammer Odyssey and the existence of these kinds of games on mobile phones. We conclude the show talking about the plans for the week and an exciting new topic for the podcast next week. MMO’s Covered Today: 1. https://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/ (Final Fantasy 14) 2. https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/ (World of Warcraft) 3. https://www.blackdesertonline.com/ (Black Desert Online) 4. https://warhammerodyssey.com/ (Warhammer Odyssey)
Today, Adam and Antoine will review different aspects of the Final Fantasy series. As long time fan of the serie, we will look into topic such as favorite world, story, cast and much more. Make sure to comment on our youtube and facebook page on what you like most in FF.
This week's episode sees our favorite duo become a trio as Middle Aged Gaming adds a new member to their party, Antoine. Antoine and Adam give us two game reviews while Crian covers the news. Antoine's Game https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skies_of_Arcadia (Skies of Arcadia) This game goes all the way back to the Dreamcast, but could later also be found on the Gamecube. Skies of Arcadia puts you in the pilot seat as the sky-pirate Vyse. With classic turned based combat and ship to ship engagements, this game does not skimp on the action. But, of course, it wouldn't be a pirate's life without the freedom to travel the world on a whim. Explore multiple nations and recruit allies to make your crew the best of the bunch. This game is "Arrrrrrrrsome"! Adam's Game http://www.funomena.com/wattamgame (Wattam) Brought to you from the mad mind that gave us Katamari Damacy, Wattam is a fanciful game filled with bright colors, blocky shapes, and strange characters. With no threat of a game over or no possible way to lose, have fun experimenting and playing around with trees, toilets, lawnmowers, facial features, and much more as you kaboom your way to bringing back the family after a the apocalypse. And if that last sentence didn't make sense to you, you understood it perfectly. Crian's News https://techcrunch.com/2021/05/03/sony-announces-investment-and-partnership-with-discord-to-bring-the-chat-app-to-playstation/ (Sony recently worked out a deal with Discord to incorporate the chat platform into their PlayStation consoles.) Why was this necessary and what can we expect in the future is anyone's guess. After announcing that they'd be reducing their cut on games from their store on the PC, https://www.theverge.com/2021/5/2/22415712/microsoft-xbox-store-cut-epic-games-court-documents (Microsoft explored reducing their cut of games on the XBox), but then later decided not to. Crian, Antoine, and Adam have their theories why. Do you agree with their assessments? Following up on the last article, Crian poses the question, how can game companies keep up the recent momentum in growth that games have seen since the beginning of the recent pandemic? Feel free to leave any of your thoughts and comments on any of our social media pages.

Your favorite hosts are back doing what they love most - talking about games! Crian's Picks https://www.godfall.com/ (Godfall) Ever want to just beat your sibling senseless while wearing a magical suit of armor? Who hasn't? Well now's your chance in this hack in slash loot fest. Is it perfect? No. But is it fun. Oh yeah! https://www.cyberpunk.net/ (Cyberpunk 2077) This game just can't seem to get enough bad press. Unfortunately, Crian wasn't particularly impressed with this title either. This time, though, it's not a technical problem, but a lack of power fantasy. What? No power fantasy in a dystopian world infested with cyborgs? If that doesn't make sense to you, listen to Crian's review and you'll understand. Adam's Picks https://windboundgame.com/ (Windbound) There's nothing like the sound of crashing waves and the feel of the breeze at your back as it fills your sail. Adam really had a lot of fun with this little indie title - enough that he played it through at least six times. If that's not a glowing review I don't know what is. Even so, it isn't without it's flaws. Is it a game for you? Listen and find out. http://www.thegamebakers.com/haven/ (Haven) Yu and Kay are two star crossed lovers trying to make it on a lonely planet they call home. Unfortunately for them, their excusion is kinda a threat to society as a whole. A surprisingly mature game given its first impressions, it took it's sweet time growing on Adam. Will you be able to find a place in your hear for Haven?
Hey everyone! It’s me, Crian, I am back! I want to give a quick shoutout to Adam for editing last week’s episode which enabled me to get a lot of work done. This episode was recorded on March 30th 2021. Today we continue the trend of unstructured discussions and dive into the idea of digital ownership. When you buy something online in its digital form? Do you truly own it or are you just licensing it? What are you entitled to as the owner of a digital product? Do company’s play into that and take advantage of consumers? Are NFT’s the key, the latest hot trend in blockchain technology. Can they help ensure our digital goods remain ours? These are some of the few topics we get into on today’s show. If you have any thoughts, questions or comments, please don’t forget to send us a message on social media. We’d love to hear from you and promise to write back to every single one of you. Now, get ready for the show! Topics Covered Today: 1. Sony shutting down the PS3, Vita and PSP store 2. NFT’s 3. Digital Collectible Card Games (DCGs) 4. Intangible Value 5. Battleborn and Evolve 6. The death of physical games

In today's episode, Crian and Adam go into some of the trials and tribulations of living abroad, ranging from medical care to spelling and all the way round to interpersonal relationships. Were there any things you'd been wondering about that we haven't gotten to? Leave us a message in the comments or on https://www.facebook.com/middleagedgaming2020 (our Facebook page) and we'd be more than happy to get back to you. Crian asks Adam to give us his experience with the https://outriders.square-enix-games.com/en-us/ (Outriders) demo and wonders, "Is it solo-able, better with friends, or strictly social?" Will their questions be answered?

Hey everyone, welcome back my name is Crian and today on “After The Show” we are not quite “After The Show” since this is the only episode for today. We talk about whether history has replay value? This episode was recorded on January 12th 2020. Now, for the sake of argument we’re not going to be limiting this to real world history but also in-universe history, or canon, of the respective game. And the question is, how strictly should games stick to pre-established, quote-unquote, facts? For example, should they provide an accurate depiction of people, places and events, an “optimal” or “preferred” depiction, or should they just throw that all out the window and just have fun with it. As always if you like what we do, please follow our YouTube, Twitch and Facebook channel. It really does help and makes a huge difference. Get ready for one hell of a discussion! Topics Covered: 1. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey 2. Battlefield V 3. Historical Accuracy 4. Inclusivity/Race 5. Fun Games 6. Star Wars
Middle Aged Gaming 2020's the Game Show: V is for Viking In today's show we'll only be going into two games, however, we'll be going a little further into depth than usual so there will still be plenty to listen to. Crian: https://www.cyberpunk.net/dk/en/ (Cyberpunk 2077) Crian gives us a look into one of the most anticipated games of 2020. Needless to say, it had a bit of a rough start, but has that stopped Crian from enjoying it? Listen and find out. Adam: https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/assassins-creed/valhalla (Assassin's Creed Valhalla) It's hard to believe that it's been a year since Adam first reviewed this game (well... technically a month but it was "last year"). He's now a bit further in and wanted to give us an update now that he's had more time with it. Does it still have that shiny new game shine, or is some of the polish starting to rub off? Find out for yourself.

Middle Aged Gaming 2020's the Game Show: Great Games of 2021 Ah the future, such promise, such possibilty, such... playtime... Will a year be enough to cover all the great games on the Horizon (pun intended)? Only time will tell, but for now, Crian and Adam have a few suggestions to keep your eye on. Crian's Picks https://bethesda.net/en/article/6PY8LrGLnhCUjhsiIoWh9A/deathloop-coming-may-2021 (Deathloop) Groundhog's Day is such a great movie, yeah? But why watch when you can play? Deathloop will see you reliving the same day as an assassin at a... party? Can you break the loop? What could possibly go wrong? Did we just give an entire description using only questions? https://www.gothamknightsgame.com/en-us (Gotham Knights) Batman is "dead" and it's up to the bat family to fill his cowl. Play as Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red hood to sweep the streets of Gotham clean and free it from the influence of the Court of Owls. Better yet, grab a friend and do it together as your own dynamic duo, trio, or quartet. https://www.playdarktide.com/ (Warhammer 40K Darktide) In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war. And you're going to be the one waging it. Play as one of four members of a ragtag mercenary team as you fight your way through waves upon waves of enemies with up to three friends. If you enjoy 40K or Vermintide, this'll be right up your alley. Adam's Picks https://www.guerrilla-games.com/play/horizon (Horizon Forbidden West) Following up one of the most popular games on the PS5, Horizon Forbidden West see's Aloy continue her journey to finding and end to the Faro plague, all while making new friends, and enemies, along the way. With new machines to face off against and new lands to explore, this is likely already Adam's GotY... and the year hasn't even started yet. http://www.neostream.com/ (Little Devil Inside) Less is more in this minimalistic, roguelike, open world, exploration game. With basic survival elements, this game is designed to feel like one big safari. Watch your character carefully though. With its minimalist design come the lack of a UI. You'll need to read your character's body language to know how they're doing, so keep a good eye on them, and this game. https://annapurnainteractive.com/games/stray (Stray) Who hasn't dreamed of being a cat, sneaking through narrow alleys jumping from rooftop to rooftop. Well now you can live that dream... in a robot infested, post apocalyptic world, no less. Find your way out of the city with the help of your drone friend, B12. Will you find the secret as to what happened to humanity? Meh, as long as there are head scratches along the way, it's a low priority.

Hi listeners, no it is not Adam but me Crian. I am helping out with the trailer and show notes for The Game Show. I have been sick this past week and still waiting for my voice to recover. This episode was recorded on December 22nd 2020. Today Adam talks about games he would give to family, and friends. He also manages to cover my list as well so a big thanks to him for that. So you are going to get a total of 8 games. A great communication heavy game that can make or break relationships. https://store.steampowered.com/app/220200/Kerbal_Space_Program/ (Kerbal Space Program) Totally unique game about guiding a group of aliens towards the eventual goal of reaching space. A little difficult but satisfying for those willing to get past the learning curve. https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP2470-CUSA10062_00-DONUTSIEA0000000 (Donut County) The famous puzzler that resembles Katamari in some way but is its own beast. Very fun and especially so if you like to move your body. https://store.steampowered.com/app/673880/Warhammer_40000_Mechanicus/ (Warhammer: Mechanicus) I hate using this phrase but this is the first x-com like Warhammer 40k game. You play as servitors with various upgrades completing missions. Fun especially if you like turn-based strategy.
Hi loyal audience, my name is Crian and today on “After The Show” Adam talks about “Games As A Service”. A sensitive topic even towards the end of 2021 but Adam gives us his unique take on the issue covering both sides of the topic. This episode was recorded on December 22 nd 2020. I was sick during the recording of the show so I am just helping to edit while Adam does the heavy lifting. Adam covers all the news and talks about the PlayStation store removing Cyberpunk 2077, GOG changing their mind about listing Detention and a Youtuber getting Cyberpunk 2077 to run on the Switch. Now, on with the show! https://www.cnet.com/news/sony-is-removing-cyberpunk-2077-from-the-playstation-store/ (PSN Removes Cyberpunk 2077) PlayStation actually did it! They removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the store. What will the fallout be? Who’s at fault? Listen to find out https://gamerant.com/devotion-gog-release-gamers-angry/ (GOG Bows to Chinese Influence) GOG was almost going to get a leg up on Steam and then they listened to the crazy Chinese gamers. What a shame changing their mind about Detention. https://gamerant.com/cyberpunk-2077-switch-youtube-video/ (Cyberpunk Kind Of Runs On The Switch) A really intelligent YouTuber managed to get Cyberpunk to run on the Switch. How did he do it? A matter of getting android onto the Switch and then rest is Stadia history.
Middle Aged Gaming 2020's the Game Show: The Best of 2020 It's been quite the year, hasn't it? Some ups, some downs... one really HUGE down... but it's pretty safe to say this years games were one of the ups. In this Episode, Crian and Adam list out some of their favorite games released in 2020. Crian's Picks https://www.deadtoast.com/ (My Friend Pedro) When your friend is a sentient banana, you'd do anything to keep it safe and happy. And the best way to do that? Kill everyone in the level. This puzzle shooter will give both your brain and trigger finger a work out as you take out your adversaries with more more smoothly than a slippery banana peel. https://www.nomanssky.com/ (No Man's Sky: Origins) It had a rough start, but Hello Games has really turned No Man's Sky around. This latest update really delivers on many of those promises we did not see on the initial release, shaping this game to be one of the best space exploration games on the market. https://playhearthstone.com/en-us (Hearthstone: Duels) Crian does love his Hearthstone, and now he has yet another reason to play. Duels gives you access to new cards and ways to play that make the game easier to pick up than ever before. Great for both new comers and veterans. Adam's Picks https://desperadosgame.com/ (Desperados III) A stealth puzzle game set in the wild west. What's not to love? Shoot, trap, lure, and voo doo your way across the map to achieve various objectives. And when you're done, there's plenty of bonus levels that can get pretty wacky for some fun shenanigans. https://ffvii-remake.square-enix-games.com/en-us (Final Fantasy VII Remake) One of the biggest RPGs of the 90's gets a modern makeover with added story and an overhauled battle system. Yes, this means there have been some changes, but for the most part it sticks to the original. Be warned though, this is just the first installment, only taking you through an expanded Midgar section of the original game. https://genshin.mihoyo.com/en (Genshin Impact) Who doesn't love free games? Genshin Impact proves that you don't need to drop a dime for quality content... buuuuut it may make your life a bit easier if you do. That said, aside from the gatcha system, this game is solid fun.
Hello faithful listeners, viewers and all-round awesome middle-aged gamers. Today on After The Show we go into our picks for game of the year. This episode was recorded on December 15th 2020. Adam gets first digs and goes into his methodology for why he chose his game. It’s probably what you suspect but why not play along to see if you can guess what is Adam’s choice for his favorite game of 2020. Crian’s pick might not be that obvious since he’s only talked about the game a few times. A shorter podcast today but one packed with a lot of information about the two best games in 2020.
Middle Aged Gaming 2020's the Game Show: Eventful Events There's so much to do during the holiday season, and we're not just talking about the real world. Many games have their own events that to keep you coming back for more. Today, we'll check out some of our favorites. Crian's Picks https://elderscrolls.bethesda.net/skyrim (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim) Skyrim has remained one of the most beloved games of all time for a reason. There's just so much happening and so much to do. And just like real life, you're going to come across several milestones that mark your journey. With everything from buying a home, to getting married, having kids, joining a murder cult, or slaying a dragon, it's pretty much as close to real life as you can get in a game. https://store.steampowered.com/app/15620/Warhammer_40000_Dawn_of_War_II/ (Warhammer: Dawn of War II) For the Emperor! Dawn of war takes the age old RTS formula and gives it an RPG makeover. It really allows you to bond with your squad and ride the emotional ups and downs with your characters. This game is great for people who love the battle aspects of RTS's but aren't terribly fond of the base building. https://lifeisstrange.square-enix-games.com/en-us/games/life-is-strange (Life is Strange) I could have sworn we talked about this game before. Anyway, déjà vu is the name of the game when you can rewind time. Help Max work her way through life and all those teenage moments. Will being able to undo your mistakes make life better, or just more complicated? Adam's Picks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Rancher (Monster Rancher) A golden oldie dating back to the original PlayStation, Monster Rancher sees you running your own ranch of powerful beasts for, you guessed it, battle. With literally thousands of monster combinations, there's plenty to do on this farm. http://www.monsterhunterworld.com/ (Monster Hunter World) Ever wonder what it'd be like to take on a T-Rex with a sword as big as you are? Well wonder know more because that's exactly what Monster Hunter World is all about. Choose from a variety of weapons, team up with a group of friends or randoms, and take out some of the nastiest beasts this side of the Triassic. https://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/ (Final Fantasy XIV) MMOs have always made the most of the holidays with special events and Final Fantasy XIV is no slouch. Covering everything from Christmas to the Cherry Blossom Festival, you'll have plenty to do all year long. And best of all, as a reward you'll be able to show off to all your in game friends... who have likely acquired them too.

Middle Aged Gaming 2020's the Game Show: Black Friday Fallout It's that time of the year again. That's right, time to kiss that hard earned cash goodbye. But don't fret just yet; we've got a few sales to help keep a bit of spare change in your pocket. (Unfortunately, depending on when you're listening to this, some sales may no longer be in effect) Crian's Picks https://keeptalkinggame.com/ (Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (PC)) With a title like that, what's the worst that could happen? Available on both traditional screens and VR, this party game will see one individual diffusing a bomb while others try to give them instructions from a manual. Make sure you've got good communication skills though, because even the slightest misunderstanding could doom us all. https://www.loversinadangerousspacetime.com/ (Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (Physical Sale)) Another game best played with friends and family. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime will see you taking on the role of a ships crew searching for lost rabbits scattered throughout space... and time... Every member of your team will control one aspect of the ship, so make sure you pick people you can trust. https://terraria.org/ (Terraria (Switch Store)) It's so much more than simply 2D Minecraft. Explore the deepest depths of the Earth as you acquire new gear and tools to help you excavate the world. And best of all, you can play with up to 4 people on console, and a whopping 16 on PC. Adam's Picks https://www.metrothegame.com/en-gb/ (Metro Exodus (PC)) Follow Artyom as he leads his people out from subterranean post-apocalyptical Russia and onto the surface of post-apocalyptical Russia. Will they be able to find greener pastures that hopefully aren't glowing? Only with your help. So get out there and kick some mutant butt, comrade! https://www.razer.com/mobile-controllers/razer-raiju-mobile/RZ06-02800100-R3U1 (Razor Raiju Mobile (Physical Sale)) Gaming on the go is great. Clogging your screen with buttons and and blocking it with your fingers... not so great. Well lucky you, the Razor Raiju is just what you need. This gamepad (a.k.a. controller) not only wirelessly links with your phone, it also has a designated dock to hold it. And to top it off, it's 23 hour battery life will easily outlast your phone. Best of all, it's compatible with Windows 7 and above, so it can cover your PC needs as well. A must have for anyone looking to stay on top of game streaming. https://www.bandainamcoent.com/games/ni-no-kuni-wrath-of-the-white-witch-remastered (Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (Playstation Store)) Who doesn't love Studio Ghibli? That's a rhetorical question. The answer is, "No one!" Well now, they've branched out beyond the silver screen. Ni no Kuni will see you exploring a world of magic and wonder as you seek to free the world from the titular White Witch. Yes, it sounds very Narnia, but is Narnia filled with magical creatures to help you on your quest? ... never mind... We swear, it's completely different.

Middle Aged Gaming 2020's the Game Show: Happy Thanksgaming! We here at Middle Aged Gaming 2020 understand that family holidays can be stressful, and that is why we are here to help you get through it. Today's game recommendations follow the following three categories: Games that Left you Stuffed - Games that left us with a feeling of satisfaction upon completion. Post Poultry Party - Games to play with friends and family once the turkey has been devoured. Leftovers - Games in our backlog that we've been meaning to get (back) into. Crian's Picks https://www.shadowofwar.com/shadow-of-mordor/ (Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (Games that Left Us Stuffed)) Who doesn't love a good revenge story? Take on the role of a ranger gifted (cursed?) with immortality. This is a must-play for fans of Tolkien fantasy. It can get a little violent, so it may be best to play this one after the hobbits go to bed. http://www.playoutoftheloop.com/ (Out of the Loop (Post Poultry Party)) Finally, a game about having no clue what's going on. How good are you at faking knowledge on a subject in which you have no clue? https://lifeisstrange.square-enix-games.com/en-us/games/life-is-strange (Life is Strange (Leftovers)) And it gets even weirder when you have the power to manipulate time. Explore the butterfly effect our decisions have on events in "choose your own adventure" style... well... adventure. Adam's Picks https://finalfantasyxv.square-enix-games.com/ (Final Fantasy XV (Games that Left Us Stuffed)) Take on the role of Prince Noctis as you take a road trip on the highway to hell. Can you save the world from eternal darkness? With your best bros in tow, absolutely! And no, you don't need to play the first 14 to understand what's going on. https://www.cleverendeavourgames.com/ultimate-chicken-horse (Ultimate Chicken Horse (Post Poultry Party)) The family that plays together, stays together... or ends up killing one another. Test those familial bonds in the fires of chaos and tomfoolery as you try to reach the flag while making the journey a real pain in the tuchus for everyone else. But hey, we'll all laugh about it later... right? https://www.catherinethegame.com/fullbody/ (Catherine: Full Body (Leftovers)) Do you have the logical skill to climb the tower of babel? Maybe. Do you have the courage to discover the secret behind a string of mysterious deaths? Possibly. Do you have the mental fortitude to deal with three jealous individuals vying for your affection? ... ehhh... One this is for certain though. You're going to get very used to hearing the following phrase: "Undo! Undo! Undo!"
Whats up everyone, my name is Crian and today on “After The Show” we talk about “Franchises or New IP’s”. Hey everyone, my name is Crian and today on “After The Show” we talk about “The Chinese Gaming Era”. With the amazing launch of Genshin Impact and the jaw dropping visuals of Black Myth: Wukong. Is China going to be a big player in the gaming scene in the future? This episode was recorded on November 17th 2020. As always if you like what we do, please follow our YouTube, Twitch and Facebook channel. It really does help and makes a huge difference. https://www.pcgamer.com/hearthstone-players-accuse-blizzard-of-misleading-them-about-tavern-pass-gold-rewards/ (Hearthstone Tavern Pass) Hearthstone finally released their new tavern pass system and it has the Internet up in arms. We get filled in on why so many people are upset https://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/373706/Microsoft_to_begin_testing_Project_xCloud_in_new_regions_including_Australia_and_Japan.php (The Expansion of X-Cloud) Microsoft X-cloud is expanding into more countries but we can't get it in Taiwan just yet. Middle Aged Gaming 2020's the Game Show: The Gold of the Indies As a small time podcast, how could we not share the love with some our favorite small time games. That's right, today we're covering games made by independent developers (or "indies" for short). Today's three categories are something, old, something current, and something new. So listen closely because you might just discover and hidden gem. Crian's Picks https://www.darkestdungeon.com/ (Darkest Dungeon (Old)) Work your way through this dungeon delver. Make sure to keep your wits about you because you're gonna need 'em. Merging classic turn based combat with a sanity mechanic, this game is great for those who love a challenge and macabre mechanics. https://goose.game/ (Untitled Goose Game (Current)) Have you ever dreamed of what it would be like to be a goose? I'm sorry, that's a stupid question. We all have! Well now that dream can become a reality. Torment the populace of an idyllic English village as you put the foul in fowl. It's a bit short, but great for those who aren't looking for another time sink. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1757963851/my-time-at-sandrock-us (My Time at Sandrock (New)) Crian loved My Time at Portia, and now it's getting a sequel! Better yet, the only change to an otherwise successful formula is multi-player. For those who enjoy Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, and the original My Time at..., keep your eye on this sequel. Adam's Picks http://fezgame.com/ (Fez (Old)) Life is complicated. Just imagine if we added another dimension to work in. Well, now you know the gimmick in Fez. Traverse 2D maps in a rotating 3D world. It make take some patience, but with no conditionals for failure, it can still be a relaxing ride. https://windboundgame.com/ (Windbound (Current)) Set sail for parts unknown in this island hopping survival game. Hoard resources, build tools, and improve your boat as you navigate this procedurally generated world to reunite with your people. https://www.heishenhua.com/ (Black Myth: Wukong (New)) Taking liberally from Journey to the West, this game will follow Sun Wukong ("Monkey" for those who've read certain English translations) in a much grittier version of this classic Chinese tale. It's still early but it's looking like this may be another soulsborne style game. We don't have much information yet but keep an eye on it until it releases in 2023. (link is to Chinese site as no English site is currently available)
Today on “After The Show” we talk about whether games need an easy mode. Are games too difficult? Would an easy mode destroy the artistic version of a game? This episode was recorded on November 10th 2020. Bioware officially revealed Mass Effect Legendary edition which includes all content from Mass Effect 1 through 3. With reviews dropping for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X, Adam talks about their load times and quick resume functionality. As always if you like what we do, please follow our YouTube, Twitch and Facebook channel. It really helps. https://blog.bioware.com/2020/11/07/happy-n7-day-4/ (Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition) All the Mass Effects bundled together, what more could a geek ask for. Crian talks about the announcement, his expectations and what exactly will be remastered. https://www.gamespot.com/videos/playstation-5-vs-xbox-series-x-load-times-comparison/2300-6454169/ (PS5 vs. XBOX Series X Load Time Comparison) Adam goes into the details about these two consoles now that review embargos have been lifted. How amazing are these load times? You will have to listen to find out. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-doesnt-feature-xbox-series-x-s-style-quick-resume-game-swapping/1100-6484147/?PostType=image&ServiceType=twitter&UniqueID=CC4C23EE-1FCD-11EB-AFCF-E2A996E8478F&TheTime=2020-11-06T01%3A17%3A12 (XBOX Series X Quick Resume) So the quick resume feature on the New XBOX is awesome but no one expected any less. Will the PS5 get this feature later on, we will have to hope and see.
Middle Aged Gaming 2020's the Game Show: If They Build It, They Will Come Ever imagine creating your own game instead of playing them? Well what if you could do both at the same time? Today we look at games that allow us to customize our own playing experience from level and character design to tool sets that we feel really give you the experience of being a game creator. Crian's Picks https://store.steampowered.com/app/610860/Shogo_Mobile_Armor_Division/ (DeathComing (Level)) If you love your job, you'll never have to work a day in your life. Take on the role of of the Grim Reaper as you set about releasing souls from their mortal coils. But be careful, not everyone is a fan of your work. With dozens of ways to tackle a problem, this game will really allow you to flex your creativity. https://xcom.com/ (XCOM (Character)) One of the most renowned SRPGs on the market, XCOM will allow you to not only create your own team, but create the individual members as well. Might want to be careful using the likenesses of those you know though. Wouldn't want the mother in law walking in as her avatar takes a grenade to the face. That's not the kind of thing you walk off. https://codespark.com/ (codeSpark Academy: At Home Kids Coding (Tool Set)) 2 out of 2 podcast hosts agree that teaching your kid programming from an early age is really helpful in this day and age. Thankfully, codeSpark Academy has you covered with some of the best tools to help introduce young (or even old) minds to the the world of algorithm development. Adam's Picks https://littlebigplanet.playstation.com/ (LittleBigPlanet (Level)) Originally coming out on the PlayStation (the first one), this game has a combat mechanic that hasn't really been utilized since. In Bushido Blade, stab, slash, and parry you way to victory. The kicker? It's a one hit kill. Thankfully, rounds reset quickly, so there's nearly no downtime. Good luck finding it (it's so old it doesn't have a webpage!), but if you do, check it out. https://www.armoredcore.net/top/pc/index.html (Armored Core (Character)) A game so niche there isn't even an English webpage, Armored Core puts you in the cockpit of a giant machine of war. Build your AC (Armored Core) from the ground up and outside in as you select a variety of parts from arms and legs to weapon loadouts to engines and cooling systems. Best of all, you can give your AC its own custom paint job and emblem so your enemies will know who hit them. https://www.rpgmakerweb.com/ (RPG Maker (Tool Set)) Remember those top down 16-bit JRPGs of the 90's? Ever want to make your own? The answer to both those questions is "yes" and the solution to the second is RPG Maker. This is all you'll ever need to recreate those lost summers where your mom yelled at you to get outside and play a sport or something. Now that we're older, no one is bossing us around anymore (except our bosses... and spouses... and children...). There's no better time to let that childhood dream finally take flight.
Ghost of Tsushima has been a hit for Sucker Punch Studio and no one expected less. With almost 40 hours of playtime, we thought it was time to hear Adam's review. He has played the base game and legends and explains the differences between the two modes and what he thinks about them. So if you are waiting to pick up the game or haven’t started playing it, this is the episode to listen to.
Middle Aged Gaming 2020's the Game Show: Necromancy in a Nutshell Happy Halloween! On this special holiday episode we will be discussing game's we'd like to see resurrected, games that possess the soul of a previous game, and our recommendation for when the trick-or-treaters stop knocking on your door. Crian's Picks https://store.steampowered.com/app/610860/Shogo_Mobile_Armor_Division/ (Shogo: Mobile Armor Division (Return from the Game)) Shogo may be dated in terms of graphics, but the gameplay is still top notch. Who hasn't dreamed of piloting a giant robot? (no... seriously... who hasn't?) Sure there are other mech games out there, but how many allow you to actually get out of your mech and run around on foot? (cough Titanfall cough) And best of all, this is a game you can pick up for less than $10 USD. You literally have no reason not to buy it right now! https://portia.pathea.net/ (My Time at Portia (Spiritual Successor)) For those who enjoyed Stardew Valley, My Time at Portia will scratch that same itch. However, with 3D graphics and deeper combat and RPG mechanics, this is no simple clone. A great blend of relaxing and action oriented gameplay. https://robotentertainment.com/omd2-details (Orcs Must Die 2 (Halloween Recommendation)) Unfortuantely, Orcs Must Die 3 is a Stadia exclusive. Fortunately, Orcs Must Die 2 is still there for the rest of us. Take on the role of a sorceress or war mage in this tower defense meets first person action game. Defend the portal in both single player and co-op. And it's kid friendly to boot! Adam's Picks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushido_Blade_(video_game) (Bushido Blade (Return from the Grave)) Originally coming out on the PlayStation (the first one), this game has a combat mechanic that hasn't really been utilized since. In Bushido Blade, stab, slash, and parry you way to victory. The kicker? It's a one hit kill. Thankfully, rounds reset quickly, so there's nearly no downtime. Good luck finding it (it's so old it doesn't have a webpage!), but if you do, check it out. https://www.praeyforthegods.com/ (Præy for the Gods (Spiritual Successor)) Do you like kaiju? Of course you do! And so does No Matter Studios. Præy for the Gods takes a lot of inspiration from Shadow of the Colossus, but that's not it's only gimmick. With added survival elements and smaller enemies to pad out your time between boss fights, you'll have plenty to do. Currently in early access on PC but hopefully coming to consoles soon. https://www.skybound.com/telltales-the-walking-dead-the-definitive-series (The Walking Dead: Definitive Edition (Halloween Recommendation)) Let's face it, what would Halloween be without at least one zombie game? Follow the story of Clementine as she grows up in the apocalypse. Think carefully because, for better or worse, every decision you make has consequences. Not a lot of action but good for those who like visual novels or those old school Choose Your Own Adventure books.
Did a Stadia exec really say that streamers should pay to stream content? What about the possibility of an XBOX streaming stick? Crian wants to talk about hardware again and has all the details about the launch of the AMD RX 6000 series graphic cards. How do you balance gaming and life? Do you just ignore life and game? Or are you responsible? https://screenrant.com/google-stadia-dev-streamers-pay-fees-stream-games/ (Stadia Exec Says Streamers Should Pay) In a recent tweet, an exec for Google Stadia stated that he believed the current ecosystem is unfair to developers because streamers are profiting off them. Of course, the internet reacted and Google came out to explain his opinions are not theirs. https://www.theverge.com/2020/10/23/21529925/xbox-tv-streaming-stick-xcloud-cloud-gaming-phil-spencer-interview (XBOX Streaming Stick) Who knows but we might be getting a streaming stick in the future that will allow us to stream games directly to our TV without an expensive console? Is this where all gaming is going? Listen to the discussion to find out. https://www.techradar.com/news/amds-next-gen-big-navi-gpu-clock-speeds-should-concern-nvidia (AMD’s Next Gen Cards Could Walk The Walk) Crian forces us to listen to more of his obsession with hardware but this time it might be good for us. AMD’s event will have launched by the time you are hearing this episode so hopefully we can get 4k graphics for a good price. Balancing Games and Life Adam and Crian both work hard with full time jobs and then some. What is the best way to maximize your gaming time but still keep your partner and family happy? We go into some ideas and how they both deal with their gaming and other schedules.
Episode 3: A Moment of Zen Life is stressful. Games shouldn't have to be. That is why we have chosen six games that we feel help us escape from the hustle and bustle of the real world and allow us to relax. Today's criteria are: games on the go, games to pay after a long days' work, and games that we feel have an overall relaxing asthetic. Crian's Picks https://ac-pocketcamp.com/en-US (Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp (game on the go)) For those who can't get enough Animal Crossing (or those who don't have a Switch), this can help fill that hole in your life. Available for android and iOS, this game will take you on peaceful camp in the woods. And for those of you who do have a switch, you can link your account and grab benefits for the main game. https://civilization.com/ (Civilization VI (after a long, hard day)) Is your brain fried? the last thing you need is fast paced gameplay. Thankfully, Civilization VI (a.k.a Civ 6) has you covered. Pick your civilization so you can start from the stone age and work your way through history into the future. Help your people expand their territory, make allies, make enemies, and create your very own wonders of the world. Multiple victory conditions also make this a great game for warhawks and pacifists alike. Finally, a game where we can talk about religion and politics in (relatively) polite company. https://www.nomanssky.com/ (No Man's Sky (asthetic)) Boldly going where no man has gone before, No Man's Sky will see you exploring the stars in a way no other game has done before. Originally earning its share of controversy, the latest update, Origin, delivers on many of the promises we've been waiting to see come to fruition. Hop from planet to planet building a network of outposts, engage in dogfights in space, and build your own fleet to travel the stars. What do you call a sandbox in zero-G? Adam's Picks https://nonogram.com/ (Nonogram (game on the go)) If you enjoy logic puzzles like sudoku, you should definitely check this game out. You're given a grid with a series of numbers along the top and side indicating sequences of "on" squares. Using your powers of deduction, you must figure out which squares are "on" and which are "off". Multiple difficulties for those who are looking for a quick solve or more of a challenge. https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4 (The Sims (after a long, hard day)) The ultimate god simulator, The Sims allows you to control every facet of your characters lives. From their clothes, to their houses, personalities, relationships, and even day to day activities, you can be as hands on or hands off as you like. Perfect for helicopter parents who need a bit more control in their lives. http://www.okami-game.com/ (Okami (asthetic)) An oldie but a goodie, there's a reason this game has been re-released on every generation since the PS2. Great for fans of puzzle focused ARPGs a la The Legend of Zelda, Okami follows the story of Amaterasu as she saves feudal Japan from a looming darkness. If you know someone who claims games aren't art, this is the only example you'll ever need. Okami looks and feels like a living painting. In fact, use of the "celestial brush" to "draw" across the screen is a major mechanic in the game. An absolutely beautiful game that is as unique today as well as it was back in 2006.
The new PS5 and XBOX UIs, PS4 Update 8, Elder Scrolls 6 exclusivity, Mariokart Live and the new Hearthstone expansion are all topics in our news segment on today’s show. As always we bring you an exciting topic which today is about buying games on release or waiting for them to mature? What type of consumer are you? https://screenrant.com/xbox-series-x-s-ui-reveal/ (XBOX Series X and PS5 UIs) The new UIs were recently revealed on social media and boy are they exciting. Adam goes into details about what to expect and a change that he hopes will come in the future. https://www.destructoid.com/stories/ps4-s-8-00-system-update-messed-with-parties-and-fans-are-annoyed-606800.phtml (PS4 Update 8.0 and Voice Recording) The latest update dropped for the PlayStation 4 and it brought a lot of changes. Adam goes through them and how to deal with any issues that may come up from the changes. Elder Scrolls 6 Potential Exclusivity We didn’t want to talk about this just yet but we had to. We both give our opinions on what will happen if the Elder Scrolls 6 becomes exclusive to the PC and XBOX Series X. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/10/14/tech/mario-kart-live-launch/index.html (Mario Kart Live) Being the Switch fan that he is, Crian would love to get Mario Kart Live but unfortunately it looks like it was created for people with large houses. Which is not like most houses in Asia. Hopefully Nintendo changes their mind about this. https://playhearthstone.com/en-us/news/23537431 (The Latest Hearthstone Expansion) Crian has been playing Hearthstone for many years so with the rumor of another expansion coming out he had to go into the details of it. Sooner or Later Adam and Crian talk about when is the best time to buy games. Should you wait for that hotness or pre-order it immediately. What are the benefits and downsides of both sides.
Episode 2: RPG Stands for Role Playing Game-Show In today's show we flex a bit of our gamer nerdom by talking about Adam's personal favorite genre, RPGs. Each host will present their personal picks to represent the three sub-themes: world, story, and mechanics. Did your favorite RPG make the cut? Crian's Picks https://elderscrolls.bethesda.net/en/skyrim (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (World)) "Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right?" One of the most popular (and meme-able) games of all time, Skyrim is known for its rich lore and beautiful vistas. This is truly a "living breathing" world as characters don't simply exist to assign quests, they actually have daily lives to attend to. https://fallout.bethesda.net/en/games/fallout-4 (Fallout 4 (Story)) Another Bethesda entry, Fallout 4 will see you taking on the role of the Sole Survivor one a quest to find your long lost child. Explore the burned out ruins of Boston now known as the Commonwealth and unearth a plot to... well... revealing spoilers sound like something a synth would say. Along the way you'll make friends, enemies, and a lot of debris. https://bethesda.net/en/game/dishonored (Dishonored (Mechanics)) Crian exposes his bias with a third Bethesda pick. This time it is Dishonored, a game where you play as the falsely accused royal guard turned assassin, Corvo. Use your wits, gear, and magic to weave your way through the city of Dunwall like the deadly parkour wizard you were meant to be. Will you clear your name or become the ruthless killer your enemies would have you believed to be. Adam's Picks https://divinity.game/ (Divinity: Original Sin II (World)) Everyone loves freedom, but sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. Not here though. Divinity tries very hard to allow you to solve quests creatively in a way that really tries to emulate old school pen & paper freedom. And best of all, it's multiplayer! https://thewitcher.com/en/witcher3 (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Story)) Got some time to kill, The Witcher 3's got your back. Help Geralt find his long lost child of destiny to prevent the end of the world. Explore a war torn land full of political intrigue, deep characters, and lengthy side quests. All to the backdrop of eastern European folklore Quick note though, between the violence, adult content, and morally gray choices in this game, you might want to ask the kids to leave the room. https://worldoffinalfantasy.square-enix-games.com/en-us/home/ (World of Final Fantasy (Mechanics)) Question: How could we do an RPG episode without a single Final Fantasy mention? Answer: We couldn't. World of Final Fantasy follows the brother and sister duo Lann & Reynn as they go on a nostalgia laced journey full of characters, monsters, and locations from one of Adam's favorite franchises (How has Crian not played a Final Fantasy yet?!?!). It also features a uniqe "stacking" mechanic that allows you to make human... er... monster pyramids that would make any high school cheerleading team jealous.
Episode 7: The Completionists vs. The Game Hoppers Welcome to the latest show from the Middle Aged Gaming podcast. The show where we try to give you everything you need to know from the past week without all the huss and fuss. Today we are going to be talking about the iPhone 12,a potential Nintendo Switch Pro, the PS5 breakdown and the Lab Zero firings. Lastly we will be chatting about how people play games, why some people finish them and why other’s don’t. https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2020/10/apple-introduces-iphone-12-pro-and-iphone-12-pro-max-with-5g/ (The iPhone 12 launch) Not being an iPhone user but loving technology. The iPhone launched dropped right when the show went live so of course we had to talk about. Great screens, good CPU and 5G means the new generation of iPhones are going to be a big challenger in the mobile gaming market. https://gamerant.com/nintendo-switch-pro-new-games-ports/ (Nintendo Switch Pro) All pure speculation at the moment but if Nintendo did launch a Switch PRO, what would you want? What kind of features would you like to have? This was talked about on a previous show but Crian goes in depth here. https://blog.playstation.com/2020/10/07/ps5-teardown-an-inside-look-at-our-most-transformative-console-yet/ ( PS5 Breakdown) The PS5 breakdown was huge news last week so Adam being a huge PlayStation fan had to give us the breakdown about what went on in the video. If you don’t want to watch the whole thing. Please listen to this segment to hear the important details. https://www.digitaltrends.com/news/lab-zero-firing-all-employees/ ( Lab Zero Firings) Lab Zero, the company behind Skullgirls and Indivisible recently fired all its employees. We get to hear what’s going on with the company and why they let go of their employees. Crian’s Topic Crian is a game hopper but he never was like that. Growing up his older brother implemented the rule that you could only play one game at one time. Almost 40 he changes games very often until he finds something that really gets his hooks in him. The last game was Mutant Year Zero which was an awesome x-com like game. He finished it a good two months ago and hasn’t finished anything else since. Adam’s Topic Adam gives us a comprehensive look at both sides of the coin so that Crian doesn’t have too much to say. Why do people finish games and why do people change games all the time.
Welcome to the first episode of our second show! Today we'll be talking about some of favorite games of the past, what we are currently enjoying, and what we are looking forward to in the months ahead. Happy Double Ten, everyone! 雙十節快樂!
Episode 6: The Politics Prerogative Welcome to the latest show from the Middle Aged Gaming podcast. The show where we try to give you everything you need to know from the past week without all the huss and fuss. Today we are going to be talking about Shadowrun Dragonfall – Director’s cut and the Final Fantasy VII Remake. We will also be talking about how both new generation consoles offer the best value for 4K gaming as well as the latest on the PS5 and the Hololive scandal. Lastly we will be digging into our topic about politics in gaming. https://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/Shadowrun_Dragonfall__Directors_Cut/ (Shadowrun Dragonfall - Director's Cut) A game that he shied away from before but during a recent stream he really loved the relaxing nature of the game despite it being very difficult. Definitely a game to try if you have been putting it off and are in the mood for something less stressful. Saving is your friend. https://ffvii-remake.square-enix-games.com/en-us (Final Fantasy VII Remake) Adam talks about arguably one of the most famous series in gaming and its recent remake. He talks about the changes and what is good and bad. Definitely something not to miss. https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/314832-the-xbox-series-x-will-crush-an-equivalently-priced-gaming-pc (Consoles offer better value (Crian’s News)) Crian dives into the costs of building a modern 4K gaming PC compared to purchasing one of the new consoles. The main problem being that while the cost of a 4K capable graphics card has come down, the costs of 4k monitors have not. For a low end monitor you are still looking at 500+ USD which is not factoring in the rest of the computer. https://boundingintocomics.com/2020/09/28/hololive-issues-3-week-suspension-to-vtubers-akai-haato-and-kiryu-coco-for-viewing-list-that-recognized-taiwan-independence/ (Hololive) and the PS5 (Adam’s News) Adam dives deep into some datamined PS5 features and what they mean for his favorite console. He also talks about the Japanese company Hololive and the recent scandal that has been in the news here in Asia. This also directly connects to our topic so keep this news item in mind. Crian’s Topic Crian takes on today’s topic from the perspective of political leanings in games and how most games definitely lean to the left. Being a liberal himself, he doesn’t mind this and definitely argues that more philosophies should be included in games. He talks about Gone Home. Spoilers! Adam’s Topic Adam talks about his thoughts in politics and whether they belong in games and if it is even possible to take them out. He goes over some relevant examples that have occurred in the last few years and his thoughts on them.

Hi listeners. Apologies for the delayed release of this episode. Adam and I are both busy with our full time jobs and this episode required quite a lot of hurdles to overcome technically. But it is finally done. The great news is that you just need to wait three days for episode 3. Today we talk about the games that we are playing. Adam talks more about Desperados 3 and I talk about getting back into Animal Crossing on the Switch. We also talk about our topic: the backlog that inevitably builds up as you get older. The size of our respective backlogs might astound you. Lastly we talk about some of last weeks hot news topics including NVIDIA's 3 series cards as well as the new consoles.
Apologies for the technical issues and poor audio quality listeners. We anticipated the whole idea of podcasting to be much easier than what it actually is. I'd like to thank my co-host Adam for the wonderful art for our show. Today we talk about: Games we are playing Our thoughts on the upcoming new console generation and what to buy Some news in the past week
