It’s the 200th episode of the start small BELIEVE BIG. What started as a suggestion because I had a book coming out has turned into a wonderful way to serve the Lord in a new way.
Thank you for being here for this episode or if you’ve been around since the beginning.
In today’s episode of start small BELIEVE BIG, we will learn about Executing the plan of the DETOX.
When faced with the decision to leave an impact for Jesus, three questions lay out our strategy.
Have you ever made a plan and God redirects it? Well let’s just say God throws me curveballs a lot.
Thinking we’re staying with a team for a while and not.
Buying a house we think is forever, and move.
A friendship that I thought was life-giving takes a turn for the worse.
I’m not usually one not wanting to step into a new adventure and friendships but…now I see I’ve not been listening to the Lord how I should.
We can outline a plan for the next steps as long as we include Jesus in the planning and realize when He’s redirecting our plan for his glory.
Listen for the God-given directive that gives you direction.
Is your parachute ready?
Dream so big only God can fulfill it. Start today. Rely on Jesus.
Hear the call, listen, and go. One day at a time.
Today's episode gives three steps to outlining the plan.
The longer we live with the toxins of unbelief, guilt and shame, the more we create anxiety, self-pity, self-doubt, and low self-esteem. It is hard to let go of these toxins, but if you do, God is ready to fill you with His peace.
Terminating toxins takes time and focus. With our vertical gaze fixed on Jesus, we know we are not alone as we rid ourselves of the toxins. Validating and evaluating our feelings and reactions to our emotions help identify and remove three serious toxins. When we get rid of those, we can have a healthier, more fulfilling life.
Today we will give you quite a few scripture to help you overcome unbelief and guilt/shame.
I want to let you know about the daily devotion I send out Monday-Friday mornings.

E-evaluate the toxins of Unbelief and Guilt/Shame
Satan loves it when we have questions or doubts about God, and his hope is that we’ll never find our way back. That Satan would even care to mess with me tells me God has something magnificent in store for my life.
We want to control rather than release power to Jesus. We deny that God can do more and do it better than we ever could. We don’t accept the fact that God has our best interest in mind.
What are you struggling with? The doubt that God can use you? That you can make a difference in the kingdom? Guilt and shame from your past cancels what you can do now?
For the next 5 episodes, I will be digging into two of the most prevalent emotional toxins…Unbelief and Shame…we will walk through the 5 step process to freedom and peace of mind using the DETOX acrostic.
In today’s episode of start small BELIEVE BIG we define the toxin of Unbelief and Guilt/Shame.
I love that many of you have been on this journey called a podcast with me for almost 200 episodes. Yes, I started the podcast with the number 100. Let’s just say don’t listen to everything others suggest!
I began this series of Detoxing from the three top emotional toxins. But I’m taking a little detour. We are going to cover the last two over the next 5 episodes.
There are some exciting things happening and there’s a bit of redirection being tossed about.
I’m in the very beginning stages, but as we head into the 200th episode the Lord is placing some small things on my heart and in my path.
We will dig into that over the next few weeks. So come back for exciting decisions and moves.

Never let the barriers keep you from accepting what God wants to do in and through you.
This week we are outlining a plan to overcome the emotional toxin of Fear.
Start today. Begin to rewrite the plan believing that God promises the other side. When the Lord gives a directive, He gives direction. Trust that He will take you there. Find peace in His intention, even when you don’t know what that is.
Having a spiritual health plan gives us guidance to rely first on Jesus. A list. My favorite thing. Create a list as a reminder to finish the detox with a healthy forward plan of action to follow Jesus.
The Health Plan’s first step is writing three statements that I believe are true about you, and you should and will think about yourself.
-I am braver than I believe.
-I am smarter than I think.
-I am stronger than I seem.
The great I Am will take you to the other side.

Recurring thoughts are a hard habit to break. But mind management helped me see I couldn’t clear all the racing emotions on my own. These examples of self-limiting beliefs that lead to God- restricting actions need to be identified.
What if we could remove the barriers that cause spiritual jet lag by naming the deceptive thoughts and countering them with the truth? I know we can.
Self-limiting beliefs hinder our ability to overcome raging thoughts and hurtful memories. We cannot stop damaging comments from others, but we can choose what builds a home in our mind and heart.
Choosing to replace deceptive thoughts with truth is a commitment. God has called us into His marvelous light. Commit to moving forward. Come out of darkness and into the light.

My Yes Is on the Table takes you into the story of the Israelites as they journeyed out of the wilderness and into the Holy Land that God had granted them. Each chapter will challenge you to move from a fear stop to a faith step. And once you’ve started taking those steps with God, there’s no telling where you’ll end up.
What does freedom mean to you? So many times I felt stuck because of the situations I was in. I felt I couldn’t make an impact because I was busy traveling with my hubby’s job. Or he wasn’t around to help out with the kids. Or I was in a new place and didn’t know anyone. So many excuses.
It took me a while to understand God wants to use me wherever I am whenever I'm there.

Since the creation, God has given us work to do. Not to win our salvation. If we could regard our work as an act of worship or service to God, such an attitude would take some of the boredom and drudgery out of it. We could work without complaining or resentment if we would treat our job problems as the cost of discipleship.
If we look at working as a mission field it takes our feelings out and places His power within. Nothing is impossible with God. We cannot accomplish anything if meaning without Him and shouldn’t want to.

How many times have you wanted to start something but stopped because you think it may fail or you’re not the one to do it. Maybe you think I can’t do great things. What if we started things we feel a called to do even if it will fail. If we have our hearts in the right place it won’t fail completely especially if we are helping others. God frequently chooses to accomplish great things through small beginnings. What we do for the Lord may seem small and insignificant at the time, but God celebrates what is right. Is there any such thing as a small deed in the hands of God?

Each of us is on earth to make an imprint on life. I pray our lives leave a legacy, not of what we accomplish but of what Jesus has done in and through our lives. When you face challenges in life, seek to know what God wants you to do, and then do it. Do it with confidence that God will do His part.
You may not know ahead of time how He may accomplish His Will, but trust God and expect to be surprised by the ways God fulfills His desires.
Listen to hear how God reveals our purpose in such a time as this.
Many times I’ve had great desires to do more. Be more. Make more of an impact. But with three young boys and a husband who was away from home eight months a year, I felt stuck.
I often created a plan to do something I found valuable. Put in a splash of prayer and a pinch of trust in the Lord and ran. My arrogant assumption that I could accomplish it overran my belief that I needed God every step of the way.
Jesus called the disciples to go. They left the crowd and their stressful day behind.
Jesus told them to get into the boat and go to the other side. Other boats went along with them. The disciples trusted the Lord’s direction enough to go with Him to a destination He determined. The other side.
God promises to take us to the other side when He calls us to go with Him.

I tried to overcome a season of feeling unsettled and uncertain by simplifying my schedule and taking control of my life’s chaos but it didn’t solve all my issues. I realized it wasn’t the external distractions but the emotional barriers that were producing feelings of discouragement and defeat. Keeping me stuck, not growing in my Christian faith.
Even though there weren’t bad things happening I still found myself complaining. Each time one more thing came along, I began to talk myself out of stepping out in a new challenge. When my boys would call excited about life happening, I told myself I was a horrible mother and made a mental list of all the ways I failed.

My heart broke when a friend called to tell me about her wonderful time with a mutual friend. I was crushed because I'd been calling and texting that friend, trying to coordinate a time to get together.
When the friend who called told me about their last-minute rendezvous, it was hard to control my emotions. I was angry and hurt. I introduced these two. I was friends with each of them first. Such an immature response.
In today's episode, we learn how to love with nothing in return from the person but blessings from God.

Growing up many of my friends got married right out of high school. I remember my mother sharing with me that she was praying I would marry the boy I was dating. He was a nice enough guy but I had aspirations to go to college and become a nurse. At church the next Sunday the preacher taught about God’s Will versus our Will. Let's just say I prayed for God's Will to be to my liking, not my mom's.
I wasn’t too confident in my prayers being answered because haven’t we all prayed for something we desperately want or need and it doesn’t happen?
In today's episode, we talk about praying with confidence for God's Will not our own, with boldness.
Can I ask you to help out with the show?
It seems like we are in a world of division and debate, or shall I say argument. In the midst of cancel culture, even within the church. If we don't believe exactly as another does, an argument ensues.
Churches are preaching politics and conspiracy theories. Using God's Word to solidify their beliefs. Not as God intended but manipulated to support their newfound idols. Politics. Opinions. Rights.
My spirit has been shaken. I have friends whom I've lost because I refuse to believe in their ideology rather than God's Word.
I'm not going to argue with anyone about their beliefs. But I will stand firm on fulfilling God's calling. To glorify Him in all things.

"But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil." Hebrews 5:14 To grow from infant Christians to mature Christians, we must learn discernment. We train our minds, bodies, and senses to distinguish food from evil.
Another critical thing to discern is what is life-giving and what is not. In today's episode of start small BELIEVE BIG, you will learn what is life-giving and what is not.

What do you need to focus on to live a mature Christian life? Hebrews 5:13
Part of the reason the people in this verse were so forgetful of what they had learned is they were not digging deep into God's word.
The author talks about the people being unskilled. Their understanding of their faith was weak; they didn't know nearly as much about God's Word as they should. They needed to dig deep.
In today's episode of start small BELIEVE BIG podcast, listen to how we can dig deep and remember His promises and the fruit he has already placed in us.

“In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!”Hebrews 5:12 When my kids were little, it seemed like they forgot two for every lesson I taught them.
In this verse, the author of Hebrews is frustrated with the mature Christians who forgot what they had been taught.
When we talk about spiritual growth, we have to talk about our strengths and weakness.
In today's episode, I share a few of my frustrations. It gets real and transparent.
One small step at a time, the goal is always to be better than we were yesterday.

Today I want to introduce you to my friend, author Ann Van Hine. Ann lost her husband, a New York City firefighter, on September 11th, 2001.
She shares her story of personal loss amid a national tragedy in her recently released memoir, Pieces Falling: navigating 9/11 with faith, family & the FDNY.
Ann believes that the stories of September 11, 2001 are like a mosaic. The stories don’t fit together like a puzzle. Instead, they lay next to each other to form the larger narrative of what happened that day and since.

As I completed my 55th year, God challenged me again. Read the Bible in one year. I read scripture every day but I felt the nudge for a fresh understanding. I use The One Year Bible to read each morning.
Lazy ears make for a sluggish faith. I pray our ears are open to hearing what God wants to say to me through His Word.
Hebrews 5:11
We should never become lazy about hearing God's truth or desensitize ourselves to the message of God. Being lazy of hearing is a great way to stop growing.
We can do this together, with Him. Listen to hear how to pause, perceive, and persevere as we grow.

People-pleasing is my nemesis. I like to be liked. We post to get likes. We follow to get followed. We think we put boundaries on safety but then share personal accounts of our lives.
Over time we conform to the algorithms, patterns, successful advice to get more likes follows, and contacts. We let outside opinions shape our lives. Or the lack of.
If we want lasting change in our lives we have to transform our minds.

I struggle at times with the purpose of my ministry.
I didn’t strive to start a ministry, to write, or to podcast. I have done most out of obedience to the Lord and some out of what people said I should do.
Each day we must find some way to draw closer to Christ. And in doing so, we are prepared to stand for truth in any and all circumstances.

My middle son’s girlfriend took a picture of my husband and three sons after my husband was part of the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby. As any mother or father knows, the process of raising a child is rich with emotions, uncertainties, joys, and sorrows.
Thank God there’s an endless well of comfort, advice, and quotes about gratitude to be found in the Bible.
Looking at the joy of our sons' faces, how proud they were of their father, the respect that oozed out in the sparkle of their eyes. My first thought is they are all grown up…I survived. And they grew up.
God wants us to grow up, know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do.
His goal for us is to mature and develop the characteristics of Jesus, living a life of love and humble service.

When God helps us grow spiritually, he doesn’t just snap his fingers so that it happens instantly. He does it in small steps. When God made a mushroom, he created it to grow to maturity in six hours, but he had it take 60 years to grow up when he made an oak tree.
Today's episode shares the first steps to spiritual growth.

Our minds are a suggestion box. Every thought you have is a suggestion, not an order.
Sometimes our minds suggest that we are tired, give up, or take an easier path.
But if we pause, we can discover new suggestions. For example, we will feel good once the work is done or that we have the ability to finish things even when we don't feel like it.
Your thoughts are not orders. Merely suggestions. You have the power to choose which option to follow. In this episode, learn how to change your mind, decrease anxiety and find peace.

We do not make this mental and emotional effort to seek God because he is lost. That’s why we would seek a coin or a sheep. But God is not lost.
Setting our minds is the opposite of mental coasting. It is a conscious choice to direct our hearts toward God. It is a conscious effort. That effort to seek God is a gift.
There is always something we must go through which or around to meet Him purposefully. The navigation of going through or around is what seeking is. Listen to hear how to make a conscious effort to seek the Lord.

I’m not afraid of death, when I die I will be celebrating face to face with Jesus. I’m mostly concerned about leaving my family behind and their anger toward God if it happened. But after losing my sister, I became more and more worried about losing another family member. My husband. My kids. Other siblings. My mom.
I was sitting in the stands with the sun shining bright when my oldest sister once again called with terrible news. My brother had died. I was stunned. Shocked. Scared.
Terror filled me. I called other family members with the baseball crowd roaring after a walk-off win.
When I shared with a dear Christian friend that I was struggling with fear and doubt she asked what scripture I was meditating on.
I have a list, but I really hadn’t been meditating on them. Just reading them and begging God to change my fear into faith.
Listen in to hear how to meditate on scripture.

Sitting in the lobby of the church a friend came up and began to tell me how she was praying for a woman in our church. Her description of her prayers were more informative than they should have been, and I took the bait. I asked questions for more information, gave a few observations of my own, and shared how the woman should and shouldn’t behave. We weren’t sitting there praying for the woman. We had slipped into gossip so easily. We hadn’t spoken a word of blessing but torn the woman down.
A moment I’m not proud of but learned so much about gossip and how to become a blessing builder, not a gabby gossipmonger.

Has someone ever done a crazy, hurtful thing to you or to someone you love? And maybe you’ve thought, “I know the Christian thing to do is to forgive, so I will. I will forgive him as soon as he gives me an apology.” Never hold on to a hurt. It only leads to resentment, and resentment tears you up. Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will harm someone else. It doesn’t work.

The scripture in today's episode gave me great hope as I began to learn more about Jesus and who he’s called me to be. It is a very common scripture you see on mugs and wall art. But, it can lose the true meaning of what was going on at the time.
The promise of the future is conditioned on God’s people seeking Him in a new way. With your whole heart.
It demands more than attending church on Sunday or reading a daily devotional. We have to commit our hearts to seek the Lord at all times.
God is ready to communicate with and help us through all circumstances. Jeremiah 29:11

What is my purpose? During different seasons of my life, that question has popped up. A few times, I have a definite idea, and others, I have no clue.
I struggled when I stopped working to stay at home. Why did I go to college? I’m wasting my education. I failed to see the purpose God gave me in those sweet moments being able to be with my children forming and developing them into who God had created them to be.
My purpose isn’t found in one thing in my life. It is part of me as I believe in the almighty God.
Through Christ, we find purpose.

There are always two stories in every situation—the story you see and the story God sees. Sometimes life, or people, seem to be placing huge obstacles in front of us and everything looks like it's falling apart. In those situations, our life seems to be a disaster.
When your life seems to be a major disaster, know that God has bigger plans to use your life for great things. The story you see may not reflect the long-term story God has planned. Therefore, trust God, knowing that he works for good in all circumstances.
There's what you see and what God sees.

Billie welcomes Marilyn Siden and Robynne Elizabeth Miller, authors of Finding Common Ground: One Octogenarian's Quest to Help our Nation Heal. Marilyn has lived through much: the aftermath of World War II, Korea, and the horror of Vietnam. She's navigated good political administrations and struggling ones, a thriving economy, and want.
Her eight decades of experience living in the US have shown her the best America has to offer and, unfortunately, the worst. But she never thought America would become a place of vitriol and despair.
So, she decided to do something about it.
Through a series of epic journeys across America, Marilyn discovered what she was after, practical advice on how to help our nation heal.
But she found something she wasn't expecting . . . something far more powerful.
Marilyn found our common ground.
Robynne has authored eight nonfiction books as well as numerous articles, essays, and stories.
Robynne speaks, teaches, edits, and coaches authors across a variety of areas. She’s taught at workshops, mini-masterminds, retreats, and writer’s conferences along the west coast and has spoken nationally.

Have you ever heard the song 'Jesus Loves Me'? I learned the song when I was very small in Sunday School. I remember the delight and joy I felt when I sang it or someone sang it to me. Over the years it lost its meaning for me. Hurts, loss, pain, disappointment, broken trust. Some of that from fellow Christians. Church hurt may be the worst. You love on other Christians, serve them, trust them but they still hurt you.
In today's episode, we learn about the great love that overcomes hurts and pains.

When I struggle with not finding joy in the Lord, feeling lonely, or falling away from knowing He is sovereign, it is because I am not digging into His Word. Not reading my Bible. When women come to me when they are struggling, I ask if they are reading the Bible.
Does it seem like that is the first thing you hear? Do you get tired of hearing read your bible?
When I struggle the most is when I’m not in God’s Word. I tend to be influenced by other’s opinions negatively. My mind gets cluttered, my spirit discouraged, my soul lonely.
I had to have a change of mind to find peace of mind.
Today, we hear how we influence others without allowing them to influence us?
Can you help the show?
I want to be honest. I am not a perfect Christian woman who never doubts or feels discouraged. After I lost my dad when I was 18, I struggled the most in my Christian life. How could God take my dad? I was too young to be without a father. My life changed completely. I felt so alone and abandoned.
When we feel broken and bruised or burned out in our spiritual life, God won’t step on us or toss us aside as useless. He will pick us up.
God’s loving attributes are desperately needed in the world today. Through God’s Spirit, we can show such sensitivity to people around us reflecting God’s goodness and honesty to them.

Have you ever gotten something that you had dreamed of for a long time and it just wasn’t what you thought it would be? There is a deep thirst in our human hearts that Jesus longs to quench.
We are all looking for something to satisfy to fulfill us. Relationships, doing something good, feeling, status, work, something achieves lasting satisfaction.
This world can never satisfy our deepest longings, but if we choose to delight in God’s way, He will always provide above and beyond our expectations.

Wisdom is such a heavy term. When I think of wise people, it’s usually associated with an older person. Well, I’m now older, but I don’t think I’ve got this wisdom thing completely down. Do we ever? Wisdom definition: marked by deep understanding, keen discernment, and a capacity for sound judgment; exercising or showing sound judgment: prudent.
Don’t miss the opportunities to be wise by keeping the same foolish choices we’ve always made. The only way to make the right choices is to understand God’s Will. God’s view.
Don’t waste your life. What opportunity is God giving you to maximize your wisdom?

Have you ever been with a group of people and felt like the smartest person in the room? Me either! There always seems to be someone who is very smart and can answer any question thrown at them.
If I’m completely honest, I was never a straight-A student. I always did just enough to get by. I suppose I won’t be remembered for my academic achievements, but I would like to be known for God's wisdom.
The question is, how does one become wise? Is there a secret formula?
Wisdom has a lot less to do with our strivings, and far more to do with God’s provision.

When we committed to seeing baseball as our mission field, our feelings had to be put aside.

Sometimes when I allow my mind to take over I feel a sense of disconnect between me and the Lord. Little by little I build walls. A barrier standing in the way of my connection to Jesus.
Worry, fear, comparison, and other toxic emotional barriers build up unsettling experiences during our lifetime. When we chase our rabbit trail of concerns, worry becomes our crutch rather than trust.
This causes what I call Spiritual Jet-Lag.

When I look back at many opportunities I have not taken, the root has been because I make up a story in my head that I’m not good enough. Not experienced enough. I can’t offer anything valuable. I’m not good enough is a tale I tell myself, a lie I often believe.
We have a choice. We can recognize the danger and turn away or we can allow unhealthy thoughts to take us captive.

Suzanne is an award-winning, bestselling author of more than 30 books, including On a Summer Tide and On a Coastal Breeze, as well as the Nantucket Legacy, Amish Beginnings, The Bishop’s Family, The Deacon’s Family, and The Inn at Eagle Hill series, among other novels.
She is also the author of several nonfiction books about the Amish, including Amish Peace and Amish Proverbs. She lives in California.
Her recent novel, "The Moonlight School,” is inspired by true events of the Moonlight School in Rowan County, Kentucky, during the early 1900s.
Born and raised in the Kentucky hills, Cora Wilson Stewart, the superintendent of education, understood the plague of illiteracy and came up with a plan to open the schoolhouses to adults on moonlit nights.
This movement almost completely eliminated adult literacy in this county and was the catalyst for shocking the nation into taking adult literacy seriously. Even today, the US celebrates National Literacy week.
Over a hundred years later, literacy is still a major problem. The National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) states that 21% of Americans (about 42 million people) still fall in the illiterate or functionally illiterate category. Often, a parent’s struggle with literacy is passed down to their children.
Suzanne Woods Fisher has researched this topic and has compared the statistics of literary, both during the 1900s and today, and her findings are truly eye-opening.

Much of that confusion comes from my own emotional barricades I put up around my spirit.
In my head I often think:
-I have nothing to offer.
-I don’t know what I’m doing.
-I am not smart enough to do this well.
-I am all alone in this. No one cares about this show.
-I could stop it all today and no one would notice.
-After a few episodes, they’re going to figure out that I am awful at this.
These are new thoughts. It’s just a new platform for me to drudge up these feelings of inadequacy.
When you are caught in a storm while in the Will of God, you may be doing what God tells you to do, but it still rains in His will.
Listen in as I share a scripture that's help me overcome self-limiting thoughts.

Be blessed my dear friends.
Happy New Year!
We are all a bit worn down from the last year. The year started with promise and hope. I remember seeing a lot about focus and clarity. 2020 like the eye chart. People chose their word for the year along those lines.
I stayed away from that line of thinking, like the plague. I had a feeling it was a little too cliché. Too much of a fad.
Little did I know. Little did we know that life would come to a quick halt, and the need to focus on simplicity would be so important.
One step of simplicity I choose each year is to choose a word to lead and guide me.
Thank you for joining me today on the start small BELIEVE BIG Podcast.

Today I want to welcome Staci Wallace, author of Fueled by Fire: Becoming a Woman of Courage Faith and Influence.
With over 30 years of business leadership, 25 years of nonprofit work, a marriage of 23 years, and two God-fearing young adults, Staci teaches women how to escape the trap of unrealistic expectations and how to overcome the addiction to the approval of others. Her life of miracle comeback stories shows proof to the message she boldly carries of being fueled by the fire of the Holy Spirit in a world that loves to water down the truth.

David and I are celebrating 32 years of marriage, today!
People often ask, "How have you lasted this long?"
In today's episode, Billie shares wisdom from Romans as an answer to a strong relationship.

Have you ever been jealous of someone else’s blessings? Or when you hear of a friend’s success or blessing, you fall to why them? Why not me?
In today's episode, we see how Elizabeth and Mary encourage one another.
A cure for Jealousy is to rejoice with them, realizing that God uses His people in ways best suited to his purpose.
When you have struggles in life, do you ask why me? Or why not them?
Knowing that God works for the good of those who believe we need to cling to the fact he is with you, working in and through you according to His plan.

Now let’s not resist that small beginning but persist in the next thing God is calling us to do.
God works through us. If we are not moving he cannot work. We get lost when we focus on our purpose and the meaning of our lives rather than God’s purpose and meaning.
Our knowledge and power are limited. God’s are not. Our life actions need to change to fulfill these God-given dreams. He desires immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.
In today's episode, we discuss if we are ready to do whatever God calls us to do wherever He calls us to do it?
Your testimony of God’s faithfulness puts a wrench in Satan’s plans to keep others in bondage. The forces of evil have launched a battle for your story, and it starts with a lie. So what’s the truth?
In today's episode, we see how we can find the confidence to share our God story.
Can I confess something? Sometimes I get tired. I feel like those plates spinning on sticks by the street performer.
I feel like that performer when those plates fall one by one, crashing to the ground after a mishap.
Do you feel like you are trying to keep all the plates spinning only to see some crash to the ground?
If life weighs you down if the burden you’re carrying is too much to bear, come to Jesus. Only He can give you the rest you need to find peace.
Today's episode helps us see where we can find rest.
Today we are welcoming back the hubby! His life with Billie has always been full of adventure, but today the topic is fear that destroys relationships.
Fear is a darkness that consumes us and can imprison us within ourselves. Each of us has been a prisoner of fear at some point in our lives.
Trust the Lord to be your light and stronghold. He is with us in our relationships to build us up together, taking upon him the burdens you carry.
Join us as we are transparent about the fears that have consumed us and create hardships in our relationship. We share how we work together to overcome our personal/relational fears.
One wife, one season, decided she was going to point out all of Billie's deficiencies. And she thought there was a lot. This created a great fear of getting close to other wives.
Fear does three terrible things to relationships; it makes us defensive, keeps us distant, and makes us demanding.
Where do you get the courage to take the first step in connecting with someone and going into a deeper intimacy?
This week's episode discusses when we are filled with God's Spirit, we're more courageous in our relationships.
The Large black cloud that sneaks up on us can seem scary. But our God is bigger than that cloud.
God is with us.
When we have a relationship with Him, and He loves us. He promises to give us His strength (which is mightier than any storm), His help, and victory over sin and death. He Helps us see all the ways He has and will help us.
Today's episode reveals the fears we have and who is with us.
Why do we often accept fear instead of rejecting it?
Do you know that fear not is written 365 times in the Bible? One for every day.
If it is written about this much we should focus on no fear rather than worry.
It is common for us to accept fear rather than reject it. Now, some fears are healthy. They protect us. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.
It is when our fears stop us from obeying God and knowing him better that we must reject it. Don’t let the excuses of fear stop us from growing closer to Jesus.

Speak and act with the knowledge that you will stand before Christ one day. If you don’t show mercy don’t expect mercy.
As followers of Jesus, we live in constant tension.
On one hand, we want to honor God and do what he wants. On the other hand, everything in our world is directly opposed to God.
Life in the Kingdom of God is at odds with the ways of the world. You are going to see many things that disagree with your values and—more importantly—with God’s values.

Throughout the quarantine of 2020, David and Billie took a great deal of time to dig into God’s Word. They dug up old bones that they haven’t dealt with and some were already healed so they put them back to rest. Some needed to be unearthed to heal the broken they hadn’t dealt with over time.
So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it.
When working through the hard things in marriage we need to build up hope so you’ll be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. No one broken more after than before.

Billie talks about getting caught up in all the things she needs to do and how she can accomplish it independently. Why bother God with the mundane.
When Billie was lying on the table, preparing for surgery, a nurse asked if she needed anything. Billie said she had never felt so powerless in her life. The nurse asked if she could pray.
In that prayer, the nurse talked about God's Holy Spirit's power. She prayed for God's spirit to fill Billie and for her to know that the confidence in the outcome was not in her but Christ.
Boast in Jesus. Make a big deal about him. He must be the focus of our worship. If Jesus is not a big deal, then we cannot worship by the spirit of God. The Holy Spirit was sent to make much of Jesus.

Often, we find ourselves listening to differing voices. The television news gives one story. Social Media points you to a different view. Our friends begin to argue about what is true and what is not. Our trust is misplaced when we cling to people and stories and not the truth.
In today's episode, Billie shows us the way to listen for the one true voice to lead us to truth.
"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand,"John 10:27
Growing up in church many don’t read the Bible at home alone, it was only read in church. In Billie's home, they had a big family Bible that sat in the living room but it was to hold family information, first haircuts, pictures, articles, not to be read.
When she started going to church as an adult she was encouraged by the pastor to read the Bible but was intimidated by it. Was she going to understand it? How would she start? Why?
In today's episode, Billie walks you through the six steps that help you to read the Bible.

When obstacles arise, we tend to not want to pray, or we may not know how to pray. Recently Billie experienced a tragedy in her family.
Grief is real. It is hard. It is raw. Billie found prayer was one major resource in finding peace and comfort.
In today's episode, she explains four steps of how to pray through the obstacles that arise in our lives.
Start a conversation with Jesus today.
Today Billie welcomes her guest Chuck Parry.
Chuck Parry knows a thing or two about seeing Heaven come to Earth. Since giving his life to Jesus in the wilds of Colorado as a young man, and now as director of Bethel Healing Rooms in Redding, California, he has seen food multiplied, weather patterns changed, and countless people healed.
He chronicled many of these things in his autobiography, Free-Falling, which he self-published in 2011.
In his latest book, Alignment, Chuck encourages believers to step out in faith so they can receive the true and full benefits that come with being a child of God. When God renews our minds and brings us into alignment with a Kingdom mindset, we can be empowered through the Holy Spirit.
Alignment shows us how we can live both in the Word and in the Spirit. By encouraging us though inspiring stories of how God has worked in others’ lives, Chuck shows that nothing is too hard for our God—ultimate healing and connection with God can happen!
The strange meeting on an overnight flight became the fondest of memories. The unusual seatmate initiated deep conversations that ended in tears and hope. God's love shines bright in unique situations.
What if God calls us to fulfill His desire in a strange place or with an unusual command?
In fulfilling God's desires in our life, we often find ourselves among the peculiar. We fulfill His calling by loving the outsiders looking in.
Today, Billie welcomes back her hubby Dave to talk about making each other better in their marriage, as parents, and as friends.
Join them as they talk about how you can strengthen your marriage by discussing the hard stuff laced in encouragement and kindness.
It takes time to trust. It takes patience to trust.
You can do it. One small step at a time.
This is the 100th episode of the start small BELIEVE BIG Podcast. The podcast was birthed from Zechariah 4:10 “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin”
He finds great pleasure in seeing the work begin one small step, decision, act at a time.
With all boldness, I took a step and made a decision to host a podcast. One episode at a time.
And now we are on 100!
In the 100th episode, Billie talks about the 10 things the Lord has taught her from 100 episodes of a podcast.
As I cleaned out the barriers that were blocking me from spiritual growth and fulfilling God's best in my life, I allowed my thoughts to take off. Ideas that beat me up. A pattern I fall into often when I hear God say, "Go."
Am I prepared? Can I do it? Is that really what God wants? Why can't I learn such a valuable lesson to hear, trust, and go?
In Genesis, we see that God created the earth and all that inhabits it one day at a time.
One day at a time. If this pattern is good enough for God, how do we learn to live at that same pace?
In today's episode, we learn about how we can increase our spiritual health by taking one step, one decision, one act, one day at a time.

Have you ever detoxed from sugar or other not so healthy items? I have a few times. I always begin by stripping the 'bad' food from the cabinets and fridge to help clear the shelves for the 'better' foods. This gives me more room to choose from healthier, better, choices.
Unhealthy emotional barricades that block the path for good exist in our spiritual lives also.
Like organizing our cabinets during a food cleanse, we need to mute the noise of emotional barriers. Leave behind the very items that clog our spirit and hold us back from the loving and merciful God we serve.
Listen to the episode to learn how we can challenge ourselves to acknowledge the obstructions and rid ourselves of the burden.

Where do we find comfort during discouraging times?
In today's episode, Billie reads from Job. Yes, Job. The book she avoided for years because of all of the pain and suffering. Then she did and found amazing truth and guidance in his story.
Where do we find comfort when we are discouraged? Where do we turn?
Our comfort sometimes comes in the form of creating stories in our own minds. The habit os the thoughts that recur over and over in our minds. The never-ending thought worm that keeps us stuck in our suffering.
Trials and grief do not destroy our real purpose of life. Life is not for happiness and personal fulfillment bu to honor and serve God.
We should live each day based on God's love for us not what we feel or think.

When Billie was in a time of being spiritually stuck, she began simplifying her schedule and took control of the chaos around her. It didn't work.
When life slowed down, actually all external activities were canceled, she realized the distractions that existed in her life were just a veil over the internal emotional barriers.
Through the story of the Samaritan woman and Jesus' encounter, we walk through the offer Jesus makes to us. His living water not just water as a physical need.
This episode discusses our self-limiting behaviors. These self-limiting behaviors cause God-restricting actions. What stops us from accepting God's best opportunities, his offering?

Have you ever struggled with friendships?
Billie has. With her husband's professional baseball career they have moved many times, changed teams, changed organizations, and lived outside the country.
It was hard to develop in-person, long term friendships.
Staying in touch wasn't the problem with social media. It was the deep, vulnerable, transparent friendships she longed for in her life.
When she began to grasp the truth in Luke 6:31 she changed her outlook on who the Lord wants you to befriend and be as a friend.

After the death of George Floyd, Billie contacted her friend Renette in a text. Then the Lord spoke clearly that the world needed to hear the wise words of her longtime friend. Billie kept hearing others ask, "What can we do about it?" She needed the same answer.
In this episode, Renette offers wisdom and guidance at the root of racism and how we can move forward. Through stories of raising children, living life in Major League baseball, and experiences in all, we hear encouragement and motivation to press through and move on with forgiveness and heart change.

Many of us live with regrets of bad behavior, shame because of past and present choices, and feeling defeated and discouraged. A friend of the family during my rebellious years asked, "How can Jesus love a girl like you?" I believed those words. God couldn't love a girl like me. I have too many sins, too many bad choices, and too much baggage. How could He love me?
We live in the tension of what we have been and what we want to be.
Paul urges us in Philippians to forget what is behind and strain for what is ahead. Our goal should be to say yes to Jesus and move forward in the direction of the goal. Our goal should be to know Christ more, to be more Christ-like, and to be all He has in mind for our lives.
What's holding you back? Have a goal in mind to glorify Jesus in all we say, do and are.

In Whom Do I Trust?
There are always circumstances and life experiences that arise and cause uncertainty in our lives. During those times we can choose to worry, complain, or blame. But we see in scripture we are to trust in God in all things. When we shelter in Him we will rest and find comfort. In whom are you trusting? Self or Him? Self or others? Family or Friends? Trust in the Lord for all.
