In this episode, Franchesca sits with Jeremy S. Adams, Author of Hollowed Out: A Warning About America's Next Generation as we discuss what teachers have known for a while- as adults we've produced a generation of children who are (at times) indifferent to the outside world. In his new release, Adams claims, "They rarely go to the movies. They don’t go to football games like they used to. Social gatherings of teenagers were once expected to be loud, boisterous, even a little bit rowdy. Teachers and parents now notice that when young Americans gather, silence frequently reigns—they aren’t talking to each other, not flirting, not engaging in eye-to-eye communication. In a particularly disturbing poll, 27% of millennials claim to have no “close friends.” Suicide rates, reports of debilitating anxiety, and episodes of self-harm have skyrocketed in recent years.
Jeremy S. Adams is the author of the forthcoming book, "HOLLOWED OUT: A Warning About America's Next Generation." He has taught high school social studies for 23 years in Bakersfield, California.

The number of homeless students in U.S. has doubled since before the recession. The number of homeless children in public schools has doubled since before the recession, reaching a record national total of 1.36 million in the 2013-2014 school year, according to new federal data. But that leads us to ask, what about the teachers who find themselves in similar situations? Vivette gets deeply personal as she discusses the "small" setbacks that led to her and her daughter becoming homeless and how she was able to persevere and "get back on her feet".
