But there's a secondary fight that we're tracking now - major changes are coming to green house gas emission accounting. This is critical in terms of how companies buy and measure their renewable energy. If these changes go forward, they can be as detrimental to our market as losing the investment tax credit or some of the anti-IRA efforts that are being pushed in Washington today. After helping Arnold Schwarzenegger win the historic recall election and become Governor of California in 2003, Terry was appointed to a position as Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency, and later as Cabinet Secretary, the Chief Policy Advisor to the Governor. During his time in government, Terry was the architect of many groundbreaking sustainability policies, including California's landmark Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, the Hydrogen Highway Network, and the Million Solar Roofs initiative.
Terry joined the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation as CEO in 2016.

Today we are speaking with Ilan Gur, the Founder and Executive Director of Cyclotron Road, a fellowship program that supports hard science and technology innovators as they advance a project with the potential for global impact. Ilan founded Cyclotron Road in order to provide entrepreneurial scientists and engineers with access to support and infrastructure that he noticed was lacking during his time directing research and technology projects in academia, startups, and corporate labs. Prior to founding Cyclotron Road, Ilan served as program director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), where he managed a $50 million portfolio spanning energy storage, solar energy, and advanced materials. Prior to ARPA-E, he launched two energy startups based on materials and manufacturing innovations, including Seeo, an advanced lithium battery company that was acquired by Bosch in 2015.

We have a unique episode this week. There is a lot of industry interest in PACE financing but not a lot of people know how it works. So we're joined this week by PACEnation's, David Gabrielson. David serves as the Executive Director and founded PACEnation in 2010. David and I will talk about PACE, which is property assessed clean energy, which is a financing mechanism that enables low cost, long term funding for energy efficiency, renewable energy and water conservation projects for both residential and commercial. The PACE financing is repaid as an assessment on the properties, regular tax bill in his process, the same way that other local public benefits assessments are like sidewalks and sewers and those programs have been in place for decades. But a lot depends on the local legislation. PACE can be used for commercial, nonprofit and residential properties.
