Dan’s kids are teenagers and he’s noticed that the next generation is much more open and accepting about therapy. With the controversy surrounding the 2022 Winter Olympic games in Beijing (Covid19 concerns, diplomatic problems, human rights violations, the environmental impact of The Games), Dan and Kim asked the question, “Should we cancel the Olympics in general?”
Instead of your faithful hosts answering this question— who, despite their amazing coordination and athletic prowess, have never competed at any level even close to Olympic status— Kim and Dan invited an actual gold-medal Olympian to share her thoughts.
Michelle Carter, Shot Diva, won gold in shotput in Rio in 2016. She was the first American to win gold in that competition. She also is a proud Black woman. Michelle brought her experience and perspective to the conversation with some wonderful insight.

Student loan forgiveness is a highly debated subject. Whether you face a mountain of debt, or you’ve never had it, this debate is probably on your mind.
About 44.7 million Americans have outstanding student loan debt, totaling over $1.86tn, with 42.3 million Americans holding federal student loan debt. (Source: The Guardian)
The questions are: If you took out that loan, should you have to pay it back? If the government hasn’t needed the money over the last couple years, why do they need it at all? Should higher education cost this much in the first place?

From Michigan to California, our country faces an epidemic. Situational homelessness, unhoused people, the homeless… however you describe it, it’s Americans who cannot afford housing. How do we help the unhoused in America?
On this episode, Kim and Dan have a conversation with someone who is helping the unhoused in his community through a private sector non-profit. Jeshua Lauka of Grand Rapids, Michigan, volunteers with Met Trotter Ministries. Jeshua shares his story of how (and why) he serves his community. The trio talks about private solutions versus public sector (government) help. And they work through how we can all help starting small.

She has a long standing commitment to racial equity and justice -- she created a Black History Program for a local Oak Park daycare when she was just fifteen years old.
