Podcast art was result of a collaboration with a friend who is an artist, YVE, who created an installation called “Sojourner” , which had as its impetus the masks we wear. I was honored to be one of the subjects.

Have you heard of Penzey’s? They sell spices from all over the world and years ago they had a store on Park Avenue in Winter Park and there used to be a location in Chestnut Hill, a section of Philadelphia. I had quite the adventure at their new Orlando location 1809 Orange Avenue which is right before you get to the Pulse Nightclub. On June 12, 2016, 29-year-old Omar Mateen shot and killed 49 people and wounded 53 more in a mass shooting.

I had the pleasure of meeting Natalie Dause and her daughter, Sara Makeba when they performed at Rollins College and Hannibal Square Center. This was our annual celebration at the Winter Park Community Center in Winter Park Florida hosted by Equity Council Corporation. This year's theme centered around American children and their deaths due to gun violence as well the plight of children throughout the world, especially those in Palestine, Sudan and the Congo.

Joey and Illuminada Kumaha 'manigua invite me to visit them as they share their Taino culture as guest at the Ormond Beach Historical Society's Collector's Day! There are currently 2 exhibits-"Where is Home? Home is Where I Belong by upcoming Ghanaian artist Eugene Ofori Agyei and Elsa Maria Melendez: Venga de una isla de Confusion? I come from an Island of Confusion, who is Puerto Rican. I attended the opening reception for Eugene's Exhibit and continue to experiment with using video on my podcast. “Ullambana Festival is also called the Sangha Day, or the Buddha’s joyful day. It is the day when the Sangha community had completed their summer retreat. As Buddhists, we should uphold the Buddha’s teaching of filial piety by supporting the Sangha. This is a very meaningful and meritorious act as it allows the Sangha to practice without obstructions and cultivate merits for ourselves and our ancestors.
The Origin and Meaning of Ullambana and Making Offerings to Sangha Ullambana Sangha Offering Ceremony is for Buddhist laity to offer a meal to the Buddha and the Sangha as an act of reverence.
According to the Ullambanapatra Sutra, when Maudgalyayana, a chief disciple of Sakyamuni Buddha, was unable to alleviate the suffering if his mother in the realm of hungry ghosts, the World-Honored One told him that the only way to deliver his mother from the pains of suffering is to rely upon the strength of monastics of all directions in their cultivation of meritorious virtues. The Buddha instructed his disciples to dedicate an elaborate offering of food and fruits to all Sangha members in the names of his parents from the past seven lifetimes as well as the present lifetime because the practice of Sangha offering has the power to transform and deliver all sentient beings.
The merits thus acquired could liberate the deceased from the three suffering realms and allow the living to enjoy a life of abundance, good fortune and longevity. Therefore, by observing the practice of Ullambana Sangha Offering, all Buddhists can deliver their parents from the miseries of the three suffering realms. “

Darryl shares his family history of Dennis Farm located in Susquehanna County Pennsylvania. The family of Prince Perkins, free African Americans who emigrated to northeast Pennsylvania from Connecticut in 1793 with the original wave of settlement into the region following the American Revolution, first settled the Dennis Farm. Their direct descendants, the Dennis family, have retained stewardship of the property to the present day, although it hasn’t been a working farm since the early twentieth century. The history of the Dennis Farm and the Perkins- Dennis family is fully documented. This continuous and documented ownership of property by African Americans, in a northeast county largely populated by European Americans represents an overlooked and remarkable story in American history that holds lessons for us today.
