For the fourth and final Kompakt Winter Mix, we proudly present a highly talented young man from Cologne who is the latest addition to our booking agency´s artist roster. Phillip Jondo weaves together Dadaistic tape experiments, minimal synth and mutant disco to form ceremonial rhythms. Next to his residency at Salon Des Amateurs in Düsseldorf he’s hosting his monthly show for NTS, alone or with guests. Electronic music fans, rejoice!

We continue our 2017 Winter Mix series with one of our favorite newcomers this year. Krisztian Dobrocsi rose to the occasion with his album "Playback Philosophy" released last September via our sister imprint KX, after turning heads with an excellent contribution to the label's 2016 compilation. Recognized for crafting weighty and soulful dance tunes with glistening melodies, succulent synths and earthy, propulsive beats, his confident balancing act between deep textures and catchy hooks also finds its way into this mixtape, a worthwhile winterly listening experience for dreamers and dancers alike. Right in time for the release of Pop Ambient 2017, the latest instalment in our iconic compilation series, two of its main protagonists put together our first winter mix for this holiday season: Max Würden and Thore Pfeiffer have shown a knack for collaboration before, so it comes as no surprise that their joint mix tape is a particularly flowing one -featuring cuts from fellow Pop Ambient heroes Leandro Fresco and Markus Guentner as well as far-flung influences such as David Bowie, Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto or Boards Of Canada. After showcasing the finely tuned brilliance of DAVE DK's electronic impressionism with PALMAILLE (KOMPAKT 277) and full-length VAL MAIRA (KOMPAKT 326 CD 121), it's time to unlock the full floor potential of the Berlin-based producer's intricate sonic tapestry - and give some other artists a shot at this infinitely gratifying source material. Highly regarded soundsmith ISOLÉE is well-known for his prowess when it comes to indie-infused, minimalist house with a catchy twist - just think of his timeless masterpiece "Beau Mot Plage" and its visionary blend of genres. His rework of the bass-laden, atmospheric WE MIX AT SIX is no different, steaming down the sophisticated textures of the original and soaking the resulting concentrate in a stirring bounce. Internationally acclaimed producer ULRICH SCHNAUSS has a similar knack for transcending electronica and brings his expertise in ethereal soundscapes to a surprisingly throbbing, pop-instilled, decidedly epic version of KRONSEE. Brooklyn/LA-based housetronics wizard PORTABLE SUNSETS rounds off this batch of carefully minted remixes with his take on NUEVA CANCION, turning its warm, organic hum into pure rythmatic poetry.

Orchestrating their return to Kompakt with the much- acclaimed new full-length MOONBUILDING 2703 AD (KOMPAKT 330 CD 124), iconic pioneers of electronic music THE ORB found fresh momentum in an enticing melange of psychedelic loops, deep textures and striving beats. The album saw the duo at the peak of its creativity, indulging in that distinct style of warped miniature epics they've perfected, ever oscillating between ruminant sampling and propulsive jamming. With MOONBUILDING 2703 AD REMIXES / SIN IN SPACE PT.1, we present three reworks willing to tackle the sonic thicket of the source material - and succesfully translating The Orb's unique brand of musical insanity into their own resourceful idioms.
WOLFGANG VOIGT's aptly named ANTIRETROAMBIENTPSYCHOLKAMIX is the first of two revamps from the Kompakt founder and veteran 4/4 anarchist - starting off innocuous enough with some gently colored ambient trickling, it then suddenly sidesteps into lush pop techno minimalism at its very best. Voigt's second take is a particularly bouncy one, rightfully billed as WASSERMANN PSYCHOSCHAFFELCLUSTERMIX and marking the renewed interest in his concept rave alter ego in the wake of leftfield banger EISEN MEIN HERZ on TOTAL 15 (KOMPAKT 340 CD 125). The trio of remixes gets rounded out by LA-based producer TEEBS - nurtured by Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder imprint, he has built his reputation on rich edit-style beat tapestry, brought to full fruition in his ingenious MOON GROTTO MIX.
