alrighty. sigh. I’m doing it!!! putting myself WAY out of my comfort zone and doing the 29029 Everesting at Stratton in October. I was supposed to do it last year but went too hard too fast with the training and effed myself nicely. This time I’ve been slowly building on both strength and conditioning while losing inches. it’s already been a JOURNEY. oy. Up days, down days, meh days, great days.
I’m starting to ramp it up a bit and will continue to do so at a pace appropriate for an obese 52 year old former athlete. My knee! My hip! my mental game! argh! it’s a lot. It’s me! I’m the problem! But this whole thing is super important to me. I’ve always needed an athletic goal to push myself. Until 2018, it was triathlon. I still love that sport but the pressures of training for 3 sports plus good lord, the water is cold up here! I’m not saying I’m done with triathlon forever, but for now, I’m focusing on this climb.
The (short version) details: I have 36 hours to complete 17 ascents at Stratton (you take a gondola down which is great for my knee and gives me a quick chance to refuel and cry)
The Stats: each ascent is 1.35 miles and gains 1,750 ft per ascent for a total of 22.4 miles. yikes
Will I make one ascent? will I do them all? I’m trying to go in with a goal but no expectations if that makes sense. trying not to pressure myself.
