Just finished the Canadian sitcom "Schitt's Creek."  I loved it.  It was very subtle and touching without trying to hard in most cases.  It has a really good example of how a LGBTQ story should be told. It wasn't too preachy, it wasn't too political, it just told the love story.    Watch the YouTube Video here:  https://youtu.be/pGMekGMWZfk Follow on Social Media: https://linktr.ee/Reedfletcher

I met Clint on a chance encounter  a decade ago. He picked me out of the entire high school while giving his keynote speech at our pep rally.  He had me join him in front of the whole school. After explaining that I had been having a bad day, he had the entire school give me a standing ovation. It was an experience I will never forget.

Now 9 years later we get to chat and catch up.  He is an Emmy Award-winning, motivational keynote speaker, author, musician, and workforce expert.

Clint was featured in Business Q Magazine as one of their “Top 40 under 40” as a premiere Corporate Keynote Speaker. He has appeared on America’s Got Talent and in feature films with actors such as Jack Black and John Heder.

Check out his new book "I love it here" on Amazon

I, like literally everyone on this planet, have spent a lot of time searching for happiness and “success” (whatever the f that means) Unfortunately for you, I’m not going to tell you what the secret is. I haven’t figured it out yet. I have, however, noticed a series of concerning patterns both in my own life and in the lives of whoever makes all the internet memes I consume like crazy.

There are essentially 2 camps. Hustle Culture (David Goggins, entrepreneur, mental toughness, Pain is my b**ch) and Self Love (love yourself the way you are, be artistic, find meaning, give yourself a break, chose happiness now)

You can argue for which one is better for you and you’ll probably be right. What I can say is, neither of them are right all the time. Social media promotes certainty. If you are not certain in your message than people won’t listen. You have to endorse something 100% or not at all. For this reason, you might have been lead to believe that only 1 of these camps is the true path to happiness and the other is full of wierdos who are not yet as enlightened as you. Maybe someday they’ll see the light and follow in your footsteps.

It’s not certain. It never has been and it never will be. Not to mention everyone is different. No one knows what they are doing. No one has the most exact perfect formula for happiness and success. So listen to them all. Especially if they conflict. Not only do you need these opposing viewpoints to be a healthy individual, they actually have a symbiotic relationship. Your creativity is improved by discipline. Your business is improved by compassion. You’re mental toughness regimen of 1 million pushups per minute is fueled by the relationships on the other end that improves by you being your best self. Don’t ask me what the answer is. I don’t know just like everyone else. But at least I know that I don’t know.

Chandler Burgon is the top of the top when it comes to door to door sales.  He sold 1,054 accounts (industry average is about 150) over the summer.  That’s roughly $500,000 in revenue for the company. He talks about his story after playing college basketball to getting a job at the university and eventually rolling the dice on what many people didn’t consider a “real job.” He is humble and authentic, getting real about the struggles and insecurities he has had growing up. He lives in a rural area in Grand Junction Colorado with his wife and two kids.

Jake Bennington is a senior sales manager at Aptive Environmental, a door to door pest control sales company. He is also a podcaster, father, speaker, and door to door consultant. One of his messages is “consistency over intensity.” He successfully completed 1 murph workout (2 mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats with a 20 lb vest) per day for an entire month. This was only months after a flare up with his Chrons disease that made he lose 60 lbs and ended up with him in the hospital multiple times, in which he feared for his life. An inspirational story from an sharp thinker who embodies living life at your edge.

This is our story.  We get asked a lot how to make long distance relationships work.  How to wait for a sister missionary. I waited for Maddy to come home from her 18 month LDS mission.  We met when we were only 12 and 14.  We have lived in different states (Utah, Arizona, Indiana) while we dated and even different countries (Maddy lived in England). We've been married for three years now and it has been a dream.

Don't make any one thing the center of your universe.

.

Have multiple streams of joy.  Don't rely too much on one thing or one person. This makes you more of a complete person while simultaneously allowing you to love deeper.  Unconditional love means love without conditions.  Love without the expectation of love in return. If you diversify you streams of joy you won't feel as needy or as desperate to have one part of your life constantly bringing you joy.  Counterintuitively, this will actually allow you to feel more joy doing that thing.

We don't even realize so many things about our lives because we are so deep in the middle of them.  People that are indoctrinated into a certain belief don't even know they are because the might not even question that belief at all.  They might not even know that an opposite belief exists out there.

This is something i'm very passionate about.  In the lds/mormon community a lot of people get judged for coming home early from their mission.  A lot of people also feel the need to pretend like every second of their mission was wonderful and exciting.  Both of these are harmful positions to take.  It's ok to not love everything about your mission.  Its ok to come home early from your mission.  h*ck its ok to not even serve a mission.  people should not look at you any differently.

I met Andy doing summer sales in 2016.  He is an amazing salesman (he sold over $480,000 worth of pest control accounts in just 4 months) and a good friend. He routinely helps young guys earn an average of $30,000 in 4 months with no prior sales experience. I wanted to sit down and hear what he did to reach this level of success.

This was one of the most hilarious, random, and awesome podcasts I've done.  Rylee is a longtime friend and I was so glad we had this time to chat. He has an awesome perspective on constantly learning new skills and expressing himself through different mediums.  He has a really awesome relationship with nature and being outside.  We also talked about wanting to record moments with people that we love that we won't have around forever like our parents and grandparents.

My 98 year old grandpa has lived a very full life. He is driven for success and has a constant hunger for knowledge.  He still attends school at the University of Utah despite having his Phd.  He is an example.  He talks about his life and his accomplishments. He talks about what he misses most about my grandma who passed over ten years ago.  He talks about her last tender days before she died. He has outlived all of his friends and family.

We’ve learned a lot in two years and we’ve still got a lot to learn.  We’ve gotten so much closer.  We understand each other a lot more than we did when we first got married.  We both brought fear into the relationship without realizing it.  We had fears that the other one was trying to force us to live their lifestyle. Obviously we’ve still got a long way to go but year three is going to be our biggest one yet.

We’re constantly looking for shortcuts to success.  I’ve been looking for different tips and tricks and “secrets” to getting what I want.  The truth is, most of the time, we know exactly what we need to do.  There isn’t really a secret.  A better question to ask instead of “what do I need to do?” is “How do I get myself to do what I already know I should do?”  When we come at the problem from this perspective it is much easier to actually effect change.  We target ourselves and our own behavior rather than constantly looking externally for something that will be the magic wand.

Conversation with my brother Grant about how hard it can be to be yourself.  When we try and force ourselves to act cool or be someone different we slowly forget who we really are and how we really feel in different situations.  We talked about how your age gives you a unique perspective on maturity. Following your social instincts will help you to feel more fulfilled, affectionate, and genuine.

Me and Maddy talk about the stigma surrounding social media and running a social media company.  We talk about the difficulties being raised in a large family and having to compete for attention, how to be heard, and how to speak so people will listen.  Why do we do the things we do?  Where along our path were we influenced to become who we are today?

I make a trade in my life.  I trade comfort and harmony today for a stronger relationship over time.  Sometimes we need to have hard conversations and we need to dig our heels into tension and conflict.  If there is something that is truly troubling us than we need to have the courage to face it now instead of letting resentment build up.
