While it’s not wrong to have doubts about our salvation, there is a time to get past our doubts and fully surrender to God in faith. We must acknowledge when we have doubts, face them and then move past them because continuing to live in doubt without moving into faith can be the most detrimental choice to choose. The religious leaders were mad that the Israelite people were believing in Jesus as the Messiah because it caused them to lose their position of authority to the people. Even throughout their plots to kill Jesus, He remained sovereign over the timing and how it was done. He calls each of us to follow Him, and all we have to do is believe and let Him live through us. As Christians, we need to stop categorizing our lives by church, home and work. Our lives are supposed to be lived congruently, meaning that our Christianity must be woven in everywhere we go. When we love other people that are different, we show others that our love comes from God and it’s Him who can unite us all. God loved the whole world and sacrificed His Son so that we could all be a family. When we accept God’s forgiveness and give ourselves to Him, He shines a light in us and cleans us up. The Bible teaches that there is both a physical and a spiritual death. Unless Jesus returns in our lifetime, we are all going to experience a physical death. The world offers us life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, yet following the world’s way brings us death, slavery to sin, and despair. The Bible teaches us the importance of fasting and praying and the difference that can make in our lives. In order for gold to be refined to purity, it must go through many instances of being in a burning fire until all the dross and other impurities have been removed. This is the way that God refines us to be more like His Son, Jesus. We may often find ourselves comparing our sin with others in order to try and look better than we really are. The truth is that we all fall short of God’s standard and we need to humbly accept our status as a “sinner” and allow God to come into our lives to change us. If we are not faithful to give when we have very little, we will not be faithful when we have a lot. God wants to help us live a life that is pleasing to Him which in turn brings us joy and satisfaction, but we have to let go of our possessions to let Him take and give as He pleases. The guilt and shame of all our sin is nailed to the cross with Christ when we repent. He washes us clean through the blood of Jesus, and we must not give into the accuser who keeps trying to pull out our past sins and hold us back from living in freedom. We have to forgive ourselves and leave our sin in the past, looking ahead with clear eyes and a clean conscience to live in the freedom that Christ bought for us. Oftentimes, we can find ourselves angry at God when bad things happen, but we must realize that He has not sinned against us but instead is present with us through our trials. There are times when it is necessary for marriages to have separation during difficulties, but in those times we need to make sure that we are listening to God’s voice and obeying Him. The Church is full of people with different thoughts and beliefs on a variety of things from politics to economics, from legalistic rules to Biblical interpretations. There are plenty of stories in the Bible of God using sinners to accomplish amazing things for His glory. God is in the cleaning business, graciously cleaning up our messy lives to make us suitable to His work. We too often waste time when issues arise in relationships by avoiding what we know we need to do. Because of Jesus’ ultimate victory over sin and death on the cross, we are God’s children and therefore we are already winners. There are many Christians who may be doing all the right things for awhile but then slip back into old sin habits. We need to be watchful for these brothers and sisters to help pick them up when they fall, knowing that there may be a time coming when we will need that kind of help. Although our obedience to God is not what saves us, it is what determines the awards that God has promised in Heaven. In a world where it is accepted to choose any lifestyle, especially those that go against Scripture, we must hold onto the truth and be bold enough to speak it. There is a difference between memorizing different facts about God and Scripture and actually meditating on the truth we find in Scripture so that it makes a difference in our lives. Our loving Heavenly Father rejoices over His kids as we listen to Him and obey what He teaches us. Kids are often overlooked when it comes to investing our time and efforts, however Jesus taught that they are the greatest investment. Too often we find ourselves in a spiritual rut where we stay immature and childish rather than taking on the responsibility of growing up. It is possible to be a Christian and backslide into sins from your past that you intentionally choose over following Jesus. There are also Christians who get deceived along the way and get off the path. We can be quick to judge other people who claim to be Christians and do not act accordingly. Rather than being judgmental of them, or even of ourselves, we need to understand that God’s work in our lives takes time. Throughout Scripture God has designated a certain order to things. Before we can receive much from Him, we must give up all that we cling to. Often times we see other people who seem to have become successful and be blessed in many ways and we either get jealous or we come up with reasons why God won’t do the same for us.
