Rebellion is nothing new, people have been doing it since the beginning.  Even though God warns them that having a king will be bad they want to be like other nations.  God relents, and the problems of the people are far from over.  Through this turn of events, the promise of Christ is set and the future course of God’s plan is made more clear.
