Jacques has a conversation with Tuffy Morwitzer, an activist from the Goongerah Environment Centre, about their reaction to the Andrews Government decision to stop logging old-growth forests by the end of the year - 6 years earlier than originally planned. Whilst that it a big relief for the 30 year old activist group - with whom Borderlands cooperated in the late 90-s during to Goolongook tree-sits which lasted five years - they are very much watching the 'fine print' of the legislation for loopholes which are always sitting in such documents... The logging industry has a long and sorry story about finding - or even creating - loopholes.GECO is at present cooperating with First Nations elders to prepare for Aboriginal controlled regeneration, rehabilitating water ways, creating an economy of care and creating a commons which may be offering healing for nature and wildlife - especially threatened species - for local humans and visiting humans alike.
