LM, 1025, 1/16/23, (Remastered Episode 68, 1/20/20), The Time Is Always Right to Do The Right Thing

A few years ago, after doing a speaking engagement in Las Vegas, the meeting planner pays me with an envelope full of cash. Being a former accountant, I wondered if this was some sort of money laundering scheme for the mob.

I go directly to the airport for my flight home. I call Twyla, our son, Keith, our daughter, Maggie, but none of them answer. Finally, I get Maggie’s husband, Justin, “Justin, if my plane crashes, don’t worry about me, I’ve gone to a better place, but get my backpack because it’s full of cash.”

Now when I call Justin, he answers with, “Do I need to get the backpack?”.

I have never been afraid to fly, but, after reading about Boeing’s new 737 Max, I’m might rethink this. After two crashes, Boeing spent a year denying there were problems with the new plane, but recently released emails show Boeing employees knew there were problems. One employee wrote that the 737 Max was, “designed by clowns who were supervised by monkeys.” Another questioned, “Would you let your family fly on this plane? I wouldn’t.”

Boeing seemed to be compromising safety to save money and it cost 347 people their lives. I believe it is appropriate on the Martin Luther King Day to remember Dr King words, “The time is always right to do the right thing.” You doing the right thing at your job may not result in life and death situations, but it builds trust with your employees and customers. The time is always right to do the right thing.
