LM, Episode 1128, 1/19/23, Third Street in Quincy, IL

Last weekend after my Friday night show, I spent the night in Quincy, IL.  Quincy is an old river town on the Mississippi River.  I used to go there once a year to do an audit of the Quincy Paper and Box Company.  I enjoyed running on the river road and across the bridge to Quinsippi Island for a lap around an old amusement park that had seen better days.

Saturday before driving to my next show two hours away, I ran on the old river road and out onto Quinsippi Island, running by the empty building that used to be Quincy Paper and Box when a memory popped into my head.

Dad and I were driving down Third Street in Quincy.  Out of the blue, Dad says, “When I was in college, Third Street was full of brothels and bars where you could listen to live music on Saturday night.”

“Really, this seems odd coming from a man to once told me he better never catch me in the Corner Bar in Liberty, MO ever again.”

Then Dad adds, “Or, so I hear.”

We both had quite a laugh and you know how much laughter matters.
