LM, Episode 1147, 2/7/23, Randy’s Dead

Yesterday I mentioned how awful many comedy club managers are.  Maybe the worst was a guy named Randy who ran the old Tulsa Comedy Club.  He and I almost came to blows over $80 he owed me.  $80.  

Randy dropped dead of a heart attack.  When I heard the news, I felt like Clarence Darrow’s quote, “I never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.”

Apparently I wasn’t the only one.  The week after Randy died, a comic calls the club to try to get Randy to book his next week.  When he asks to speak to Randy, the woman answering the phone said, “Randy’s dead.  We had his funeral this morning.”

The comic says, “Oh, okay,” and hangs up.  Ten minutes later he calls back and asks to speak to Randy.  The woman says, “I told you, Randy’s dead.”  

He replies, “I know, but I just love hearing it.”
