LM, Episode 1149, 2/9/23, Help Dr. Rick
I’ve told the joke about the guy who spends 30 years complaining about his job shoveling elephant dung for the circus. When one of his friends suggests he quit, the guy replies, “And give up show business?”
Last month I had a show in Fairfield, IA. The theater got a hold of some old promoting material that included an opening act I used to have with me, a mistake I only discovered two days before the show. It was a great show. One of those shows that is so much fun for me I’m still awake at 3 am afterwards.
Last week I received an email from a guy who went to the show. He said he and his wife had a great time, but he was upset because the show was marketed to have two comics. He said he’d contacted the theater about his complaint and they told him there were no refunds.
I replied asking him how much he spent for his tickets and I would send him a check.
I receive a reply stating he spent $46 for tickets. He says, “I would accept $20 total, if that sounds fair to you, since we did enjoy the first half as I mentioned; just a bit over the top for us for the same style/person in the second half when we expected a different comic.”
I actually felt sorry for this guy, like he could really stand to talk to Dr. Rick from the Progressive TV commercials to not become that old guy. How pathetic is your life that you invest time to complain to the theater about a show you enjoyed and, when they didn’t refund you any money, you search for my email address and write two emails all for $20?
I sent him a check for $46, but as I was putting it in the mail, all I could think was, “and give up show business?”
