LM, Episode 1174, 3/6/23, (Remaster Episode 115, 3/9/20), Management Monday

I read a book called the Bastard Brigade by Sam Keen. One of the main characters, and I do mean characters, was Moe Berg. Moe was a former major league baseball catcher turned spy. He was not the typical ballplayer, speaking multiple languages. Once, when a reporter mentioned to one of Moe’s teammates that Moe spoke eight languages, the teammate responded, “and he can’t hit in any of them.”

Once when the St. Louis Cardinals catcher, Tim McCarver, went to the mound to talk to Bob Gibson, Gibson told him to get back behind the plate because the only thing Tim knew about pitching was he couldn’t hit it.

I was also a catcher who couldn’t hit, but by some miracle or getting hit by a pitch, I did get on first, one thing everyone knew was in two pitches I’d be standing on third because I had all sorts of speed.

Everyone has skills and weaknesses. Today for Management Monday I encourage you to get training for your employees to improve their weaknesses, especially your supervisors and managers because the number one factor is keeping quality management people is they are offered training to help them develop marketable skills to help them advance with you or another company.
