LM, Episode 1227, 4/30/23, Lyrics Matter

I was listening to Dwight Yokum’s version of Suspicious Minds and I realized the opening lyric, is, “I’m caught in a trap,” instead of, “I’m caught in a crack,” like I always thought it said. That paints an entirely different mental picture.

There are some lyrics I can’t get enough of. Kris Kristofferson’s song Watch Closely Now has a line saying, “When they’re breaking your back, bring your last straw to me, I’ll turn your straw into gold.” Man I wished I’d written that.

Driving late at night can be lonely. You’re the only person not asleep. I often play the Poison song Every Rose Has It’s Thorn over and over, sometimes for hours because there is one line says how lonely I feel, “And now I hear you found somebody new, And that I never meant that much to you.”

I can’t wait for my wife, Twyla, to add on an attached garage to our house so I can have a Czechoslovakian flag because it will remind me of the Charlie Daniels’ lyric from Uneasy Rider, “I bet he has a commie flag tacked up on the wall inside of his garage.”

I think lyrics matter almost as much as laughter does.
