REPLAY LM, Episode 203
The turmoil America is experiencing reminds me of what followed the killing of Martin Luther King in 1968. Many American cities, including Kansas City, broke out in rebellion.
A few months later, I went with my pregnant aunt to her doctor’s appointment. It was at Research Hospital in Kansas City in what many white people would call, “a bad neighborhood.”
Sitting at a stop light, a car with two black men pulls us beside us. The man in the passenger seat looks over at a pregnant white woman and a nine year old white boy, he gets a look of fear on his face, and locks his car door. The four of us shared a beautiful moment of laughter. I hope those two men are alive and safe today because we all need to remember laughter matters.
