A doctor, decorated First World War veteran and a former Liberal turned Conservative, Dr. Robert Manion was respected for his intelligence and fiery House of Commons speeches. Serving as party leader from 1938 to 1940, he led the party into the Second World War.
Upon his death, his rival, William Lyon Mackenzie King, would be a pallbearer at his funeral.
