Serving as Canada's seventh Governor General from 1893 to 1898, his impact on Canada was eclipsed by that of his wife, Lady Aberdeen, who was highly involved in Canadian affairs for much of her life. Nonetheless, he would help shape the role of the Governor General for decades to come.
