Harrison Polites’ career as a PR pro wasn’t exactly planned.

Journalism was his gig for a good number of years before he leapt to the ‘dark side’ and he’ll tell it to you straight – his hugely successful business, The Media Accelerator, is best described as ‘the accidental agency’.

And yet, it’s a move that’s proved to be both fruitful and rewarding for Polites, who to this day gets a “real rush” from pitching a story successfully and being able to deliver that story. Coming up with the concept, executing it, getting a journalist interested in it – Polites says there’s “something that’s akin to being able to publish a real successful story as a journalist in that PR process”.

And while he’s the first to admit he’s made his fair share of mistakes along the way – because that’s human after all – Polites is too happy to share what he’s learnt during his time on the dark side.
