As we close the book of Nehemiah, we see the end result of all Nehemiah's labors. After many years of pursuing excellence, leaning on God, building on Jerusalem's glorious past, praying through opposition, and caring for the spiritual health of the people, the city of Jerusalem dedicated its walls. Yet in spite of these blessings, they still fell into the same familiar pattern of neglect and forgetfulness. If human leaders can only deliver temporary and fleeting successes, how can we ever make progress? Fortunately, we have more than a human leader - we have Christ our Savior, the Lord.
