Jesus has compassion on the crowds; He sees them. Matthew calls them distressed and dejected, like lost sheep without a shepherd. Then He tells his disciples that there is a harvest out there, people who needto be reached with the gospel. We now share in that calling, to go out into the harvest fields and share the good news of what Jesus has done with similar grace and compassion for those unreached. Jesus had been preaching and healing, now He gives that authority to the twelve to go and do the same.
